To add onto that, I think it would also be good if there could be a "child" NPC.  I understand that some people create whole accounts for their characters' children but sometimes characters aren't so solitary that it warrants an entire other account.  It could also stretch to RPs where say your character finds a child, they may only have anything to do with said child for a thread or two.  Or even, if it's like a ward or apprentice to your character.  Not all of them fit into the roles we currently have available in the NPC shop and I think this could be a good opportunity.

Okay! So! Military units. I have a few suggestions for this.

I noticed a marked lack of proper foot archers. The choice seems to be between horse archers and skirmishers, but there seems to be no real middle ground there. A unit to serve as organized archers / crossbowmen would probably be good.

While infiltration, saboutage, and assassination can be done by charatcers, people who play generals (and thus have armies) typically don't follow that style. A sort of upgraded scout unit that can also function as saboteurs / assassins might be a good idea. (The japs had Kishou ninja squardons, for example.)

Siege Engineers: While technically not really soldiers, they could go under "support", but if so, it might be a good idea to specify it, or make a unit specifically for the assembly and use of trebushets, rams, and scorpions.

Army mounts: This may sound silly, but bear with me! A lot of infantry, archers, and scout staff were trained to use horses to get around, but not fighting from horseback. Making a cheap "mounted" unit to use with other units (i.e. men-at-arms) would allow or incentivize people to make use of mounted infantry and scouts in their posts.

Bandits / irregulars: Probably my least useful addition to this list, but a disorganized mob of people used to fighting (and with fairly good gear) can be a very specific force on a battlefield, and can provide a means for a player to lead a small, mixed warband as opposed to a full-fledged army if they so choose.

- Toloch, despite his size, relies on speed. As in, the physical trait - not the narcotic substance.

I intended that to go under "Siege Engineers", Silanus. After all, most of such weapons would'nt be assembled at all times.

Oh! I just realised it may be a good idea to add properties to the shops. Shacks, houses, mansions, ranches, catsles, w/e. Unless that's something intentionally left to the imagination of the players.

I think that properties would actually be part of a separate housing system if they were added, but I don't recall if such a system is already on the list or not.

Probably siege engineers would be part of support. I don't see any reason not to add siege weapons, though, even if they do require set-up. Those military units are temporary in the first place, so buying the siege weapons would be like commissioning them for a soon to come battle.

As for archers and scouts, the skirmisher unit should probably be split into those two classes. The archer would travel with the bulk of the army like Toloch suggests, while the scout performed the functions of a scout, saboteur or assassin as needed. We don't want to add too many item classes that are similar to each other, and, while not technically correct, scout could be a good substitute for the subtler things.

Name change then - instead of "scout" you could have "agent" or somesuch. And "support" could be changed to include the mention of sappers and engineers in its description.

I stand on my opinion that adding a "mounted" unit to sub together with infantry units might be an idea. Should'nt be much, 100 crescents, maybe. I also stand on the "irregulars" unit - I think these would be flavour-adding… additions…
