Pyzis couldn't imagine being so young and left with a stranger for an apprenticeship, no choice in your fate at all. She had no memories of her family though so she couldn't empathise what it felt like to leave a loved one. In fact, Pyzis had almost no memories of being a child at all, she could recall her first Master and how she served in his household as a youth. She didn't know how she came into his service or where she came from at all. Most of the time it didn't bother her, but right now it seemed like the puzzle.

She continued until she had bottled every Ghostlight pod and watched as Coran placed it on a shelf. The idea of traveling the world excited her. She was confined for forty years, and it would be so nice to stretch her legs and regain the muscle and definition that came with toil. There had to be many things that they could collect if they traveled. The only problem she foresaw was that it may be hard to find the roving city again. Though if they didn't travel how would they sell their wares anyway. If Coran had hardly any customers in this town, they might need to find more elsewhere.

"I would love to travel, to be honest, I am not human. I'm a Phoenix, and I spent my last life cycle trapped by a deranged Alchemist. I was forced to heal him repeatedly, and now I can't bring myself to change back into my bird form out of fear. I want to learn from you how I can continue to serve others through healing without being in my Phoenix form." she admitted to him as she busied herself with straightening the already perfect bottles. A blush ran up her cheeks, and she refused to meet Coran's eyes. If they were going to leave and travel the world together, he needed to know her motivation behind becoming an apprentice. He would also need to understand that she was broken. They would be sleeping under the stars together, scaling mountains, and setting foot on new lands. He needed to know that she couldn't bear the touch of another person yet. She also needed to learn how to change that. Hopefully, since she was so new, she wouldn't take the lead and be forced into contact before she was ready.

"I was tortured until I produced Phoenix tears, I know that those are rare alchemical items, but I won't be forced to give them to anyone again. If all goes well eventually, I will change back into a bird and use them for my research. I'm warning you now, I cannot do it so it would be no use to try." she said. Pyzis didn't think Coran would attempt anything, but many people would kill her for those tears. She was trusting him with her secret.

A phoenix? Pyzis was a phoenix? She was tortured and imprisoned and used? Why was she sharing such personal secrets with him? They had known each other for a few hours. Sure, he had accepted her as an apprentice and they would be required to work closely and travel together. He had definitely not expected such intense confessions from her and he had absolutely no idea how to respond. "Wow." he said, "I have no way to respond to that. I've heard that phoenix tears being harvested but I never thought about your kind as people." He cringed. Surely that had mad him sound to be a complete ass. "Sorry, I mean…" he couldn't think of the right words to say. "I mean I only ever thought about it as an abstract idea. I never heard of how they were harvested." He felt awful. He had completely mad an idiot of himself. "I promise, I would never try to steal your tears."

The conversation continued back and forth between Coran and Pyzis for close to an hour. "Well, thank you for your help today. I am looking forward to continuing our partnership. You should probably go now, its getting late, and we will have a busy day full of learning tomorrow. Also, you don't need to worry, this is a perfectly safe place for you. Your secrets are safe with me."

Pyzis walked back to her small flat a block away from the shop feeling a little lighter than she had at the beginning of the day. He had sent her home with a few basic herbalist books to study, and she wanted to delve into them first thing. At the small desk, she lit a candle with a flame in her palm. The best part about being human was that instead of being a creature of fire was that she could wield it just as quickly. With a grin, she tossed a fireball back and forth between her hands. She decided it was better to stop before she lit something aflame. The book she had set on the desk had a thick leather cover and a clasp to keep it shut. It was a tough thing bound in green, probably meant to be taken with you into the field. As she flipped to where she left off, her mind wandered back to the little shop.

How lucky had she been to land an apprenticeship on her first try? She swelled with pride at the thought, though she was older than the average apprentice, she could make up for it in speed and determination. At least Coran was pleasant; he was handsome and sweet in a quiet way. At least she felt safe around him since he didn't seem the type to go out of his way to hurt someone. If things went well, it would only be months until they were traveling together. Finally, she would get to experience the world with her freedom! This would be a great trasistion though. Pyzis would learn to handle touch and the silence before she was set to take care of healing other people. There was no way she could help optimally if she couldn't even stand unexpected touches.

With a sigh, she turned back to her book, noting the simplicity of it. Though the type within was relatively small, she wasn't going to be hard pressed to finish it quickly. When her candle went out, she used her fire to lite another and remember to pray to Rhylana in thanks. Today was another day of her freedom, and she had sworn not to forget the one who had gotten her through her imprisonment. As the night grew darker, Pyzis became more and more engrossed in her book. After a while, she brought out paper and ink so she could take notes on the subtle details that determined what type of plant she was looking at. Since these were drawings every description was necessary at least until she could see each plant personally.

After a time she began to yawn and rub her eyes, she had watched each of the moons rise and knew it was only a few hours before dawn. With a sigh, she shut her book and laid down on the straw bed, not bothering to change out of her dress. Instantly she slept dreaming of the difference between edible mushrooms and poisonous ones.
