Peabody looked at the two notices, and smiled to himself. The paper was obviously enchanted, which meant there was still time. The only question was, should they go down to the Winking Mermaid to look for work, or to find more people to flesh out there crews? Both had their merits… He felt around in his pocket for the silver, and shrugged to himself. No reason they couldn't do both. It looked like they were off to the Winking Mermaid, to see what they could see.

That doesn't go in there.
The Librarian

Character Info
Name: The Librarian
Age:
Alignment: LN
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Class: Librarian
Silver: 362
(I am going to attempt to fix this, because there were meant to be two flyers!)

The Librarian, always capitalized, strolled slowly down the street, unsure what to do next. He had been sent here, to this city, to begin his pilgrimage, with the intent on collecting knowledge to bring back to The Library, also always capitalized. "Proper titles, proper titles" he muttered under his breath to himself. The problem was, he was a little unsure of what he was meant to do next. There was meant to have been some kind of a starter bundle here waiting for him, basic items which were meant to help him as he began his journey. Only, as he had stepped through the gate from The Library and found himself in this city, he had found himself bare of, well, everything.

It was more than a little embarrassing, wandering naked through the streets, without a single silver crescent to his name. But what was he to do? He was one of The Librarians, now, not a sorcerer, wizard, or fighter of any kind. He had a knack for remembering details, and great penmanship. Other than that, he hadn't even a spell to his name, a stitch of fabric on his body, or even the promised cart and horse! Not even a notebook, quill, and ink! How was he meant to begin collecting information with no way to write down a second letter of it? He had heard of these errors happening in the past, people going through Gates and finding themselves stuck, waiting for some kind of deity to help them out, and then winding up with nothing. He hadn't thought it would happen to him, though. You never do.

First on his To-Do List, he was a big fan of lists, The Librarian, was to get some clothes. Clothes, writing instruments, silver, transport, and maybe a companion or two to keep him safe on his journey. That was his list, that was what he was going to get set on figuring out. In that order. Right then, first, clothes. Where do you get clothes for free in a strange city, while naked, with no silver? The Librarian tapped his foot and thought about it, sorting through the books and assorted texts he had held within his mind. He discarded fiction, and got started in on some boring texts when he noticed some men in shining armor approaching him. They had the look of guards about them. Guards! They would be able to help him!

The conversation was brief, and did not go quite the way he had hoped. Both the guards came in hard, speaking loudly, clearly, and slowly, as if expecting him to be intoxicated. There were some questions and thinly veiled threats to take him in for public indecency before The Librarian was finally able to get a word in, and explained the problem with the Gate, and the error, which he could have sworn the guards called a "404", and suddenly there was a world of difference. They had him heading toward a temple instead of a cell.

Once within the temple he had the pleasure of speaking with one of the priesthood, who called themselves a Moderator, who was able to get him sorted out with some of the necessities. Some simple robes, a plain brown but very comfortable, were whisked out and onto his body. A coin purse was tossed to him, with a not unhealthy amount of silver within, and he was provided a pack, a notebook, and told a cart and horse would be waiting for him at the nearest stable. Life was good! Life was great! Divine hands reached down and touched his life, improving it greatly.

Errors sorted, The Librarian found himself sitting in the back of a small covered wagon, notebook in one hand, quill in the other, writing up his notes for the day so far. The front page had his list on it, and The Librarian was quite pleased with himself as he saw he only had one more box left, to find some companions. Perhaps the local guards would be able to help him find some companions, too. It would only take a question, he was sure.

Time seemed to skip, and as The Librarian, clothes and moderately pleased with himself, was walking down a street, looking about for a guard, when suddenly he realized that posted up along walls all around him were flyers, calling for attention. He sidled on over, and saw they were almost identical, but with a few minor differences, advertising a hiring event for companions. It was like divine intervention once more, and who was he to look a gift horse in the mouth? Without hesitation, he pulled down one of each flyer, to be archived with his records, and skimmed over them.

"Help wanted…" he muttered, "Mercenary, pirate, trader, yadda yadda yadda, come to the Winking Mermaid… Are you looking for work, of any kind, then come on down… Hiring event of the season… All employers, all workers, muscle, mind, spirit, come one and all to the Winking Mermaid….". He nodded. A simple design, meant to let whoever saw know that, no matter the work they were looking for, they could find it at the Winking Mermaid. The other was similar, but telling anyone who was looking to hire to come to the Winking Mermaid. The idea was simple, really. Get enough people looking to hire, and enough people looking for work, and you have a got shot of putting the two together, for about fifteen silvers a match! A good scheme, and one which The Librarian was more than happy to use to find himself some traveling companions. Now, where was the Winking Mermaid…

The Librarian, with help of friendly locals, eventually found himself standing outside of a tavern, which he believed to be fairly standard as far as taverns went, based on what he had read in books. He had a few architectural blueprints, too, floating around in his mind, for Standard Tavern Layout A, and Seedy Backwater Tavern 3, and seeing the Winking Mermaid led him to believe that it was closer to the Standard layout. How were they going to fit all the people in, if a lot showed up?

His question was answered by a human male with a fancy moustache, a bright red jacket, and a large black top hat, striding out to meet him. "Hello sir, are you here for the bar, or the event?" A quick conversation led him to a large area with a tent cleared out behind the bar, connected by a tunnel of fabric. So, the event was tavern-adjacent, not within the tavern. He wondered what the percentage of the cut they were getting was going to be, and if they were exclusively providing refreshments,.
