He was clearly passionate about his fighting, and his craft, and Qannik was curious about this outlander.  he also had some strange notions, at least to her.  "But what about other skins?  People wear leather all the time, and much of that come from intelligent animals.  What about scales that are freely given?  Not all ice dragons are evil, we trade with some of them for their shed scales to use sometimes," Qannik explained.  Out on the tundra, it was rare for anything to be so black and white.

It was clear that his father figured largely into Hiro's life, given how much he was speaking of the man.  And it was good to know that people who were altruistic were will to help, even on their remote island.  "Dragons are not easy to kill, so I'm sure you'll have another chance.  Plus you usually need more than just one person to fight a dragon," she said, then one of her kinsmen entered the tent.  They chatted for a few moments in the Rafandi tongue, and Qannik nodded.  She seemed a bit less wary, and more willing to stay where she was, rather than about to dash out of the tent to try and join the battle.

"It is gone, at least for now.  And its minions are all dead or fleeing.  Perhaps we will raise a hunting party to try and find the dragon.  Or perhaps the Hiafae will.  We do work together sometimes, especially when it comes to a threat to both our peoples," she added.  From how she spoke, Qannik wasn't too worried about the dragon returning for now.  One of the healers in the tent handed her a cup with steam coming off it, and she sipped it carefully.  The woman offered a cup to Hiro as well, and Qannik wondered how he would react to the drink.  Warmed seal's milk was definitely an acquired taste, though the berries helped the taste.

Hiro Kouen

Character Info
Name: Hiro Kouen
Age: 18
Alignment: TG
Race: Humanoid Elemental
Gender: Male
Class: Elemental Knight
Silver: 1067
"People wear leather, from like, wild or domesticated animals, but the definition of intelligent animals varies.  Dragons, like wyrms or ancient dragons, tend to be very intelligent, smarter that most humanoid creatures, some are honorable, some aren't, but most take offense to wearing dragon's scales as armor, at least, from what I heard.  Maybe things are different around these parts.  If someone came up to me wearing tanned human hide, I'd be very offended.  I imagine human hide doesn't have strong defensive properties compared to animal hides, but it'd be disgusting at any rate, even if it did have some advantage.  He shrugged.  "It could just be something my father believes in, because despite being human, he knew someone who was part dragon, he taught her a lot about fire magic.  She was like a sister to him, he told me her named was Caitlin.  Out of respect for her, he refused orders where he was requested to deal with dragon scales.  He works with actual metals, but scales, like fire dragon scale, he tends to refuse.  It's a little different when the scales are donated, but other dragons may not know this, and may attack at first sight.  He had great respect for them, even having a full ancient dragon as a friend and companion.  He also refused orders with certain types of weapons, he could forge weapons and armor, and if someone wanted to commission weapon that could be used for something like assassinations, he'd refuse.  He's bullheaded, and honorable.  He's a true knight."  He noticed he droning on a bit, and realizing he should talk about something else.  "Sorry, it's just, he's important to me, and he's gone missing since i came to this land, and I've been looking for him.  It's okay though.  I'll find him eventually."  She spoke of dragons not being easy to kill.  "They aren't easy to kill, but that's why I'd like another crack at it, i wish to be stronger, I welcome the challenge.  You see, I use fire magic, and so I want to be more effective against something like an ice dragon.  I tried to guard using that firewall spell, but it just wasn't strong enough, but I imagine it saved my life, but I wasn't in any shape afterwards to actually counter back with anything else, as you saw."

She told him that the dragon was gone for now, though they might raise a hunting party to track down the dragon.  "Well, if you need a fire magic user, I'm game for that, if I'm still around when that happens."  Hiro took the cup and thanked her, and took a careful sip from it.  He cringed tasting it, it wasn't pleasant, but it had a hint of berry in it, he wasn't sure exactly what it was.  He nearly choked on it.  "That's . . . that's a taste alright . . . what is it?  It warms you up, but the taste is . . . not what I'm used to.  I guess it's something native to this area?"

A torrent of words flowed from Hiro's mouth, giving Qannik time to enjoy her drink.  The information itself was interesting, and she had never heard of anyone being friends with a dragon.  Or of someone being part dragon.  It was clear she still had quite a lot to learn about the world.  "It's clear you care about your father.  And that you worry for him," she finally said.  Qannik chuckled at his already wanting to take another try at slaying the dragon.  "You seem as bullheaded as this father you describe.  Going after something that nearly killed you so soon, most would not do that," she said, her voice amused.  Qannik shook her head when it sounded like he assumed she would go on the hunt as well.  "I am not a hunter, that is not my place.  I might help scout though.  It depends on how many were injured in the attack, when the dragon will be a target," Qannik explained.

She watched in silence for a few moments, the grin twitching on her lips.  She had seen a similar reaction more than once, but it never ceased to amuse her.  "It's seal's milk, warmed with berries in it to make it more drinkable.  Plain, it's a lot thicker.  And even my people don't like it on its own.  But it will help warm you up from the inside.  It's something that helps us survive on the tundra.  Caribou milk is better, but that's because they eat plants and not fish," Qannik explained, though the amused grin with still on her face.  There were some tricks that never got old.
