The guard lifted a brow at the compelling response made by his new protectee. It was a thoughtful concept, though his life had never been one arranged around it. Nobles were selfish creatures that wished for only their well-being. At least that was from his enduring experience. It had been many ages passed that he had taken up the mantle of being a personal guard. Only on the slightest of occasions did he have the luck to find a contract that would allow him some sort of humanly contact. His last one had been the goddess Rhylana, but tragedy had brought that to an abrupt end. Astrid appeared to be part of the crowd that had a heart.

Once their rooms had been observed, the pair moved to the study. When Astrid described it as small there was an understatement. He stood in the door way of the ‘study’ to observe the stacks of books that filled it. Damon watched quietly as Astrid climbed upon the one chair within the room to gain some height. His eyes narrowed as he watched how unsteady she was upon the seat. He remained silent on the matter though he moved inside the room to be closer to the young woman.

Upon finding what she was looking for it put her in danger. Damon quickly reached out his arms and caught her carefully. He pulled her tight against his chest with his arms holding her easily. Once he knew there was no damage done to her, the phoenix looked down at the still pleased girl. There was a heavy sigh given off as she showed him the book happily. “Yes, there it is,” he replied with a shake of his head.

With the room being smaller, he stepped out of the study to put her down on the ground. His hands did not become removed until he knew that she was steady upon her feet. Once he let go, Damon stepped back a few moves to put space between them. The offered book was taken and he opened it up to the first page. It was indeed the one that was mentioned by Toya earlier. “What does it go into depth about? I was hoping a family tree of sorts, but is there anything else?”
