"Unfortunately, my dear, you story is not a wholly uncommon one," Drae said with a sigh as he took a sip of his own drink. "Creatures such as yourself are often kept as high class pets, until something proves you to not be what your so called masters want," he said. "I know of a young Phoenix who suffered very similarly," he explained.
He looked amused when Vinsue asked about his background. "Me? Hell, that's not interesting. I came from Sidhiel, before anyone remembered it as Sidhiel," he said. "Grew up a half-breed in a purist society, and it bothered me. So I left when I was barely a teenager and went to live and work in Iria, where I excelled in the illegal trade business," he told her. "Didn't have a shred of real magical talent, not until I had reached adulthood and made a pact with a dangerous demoness in order to get back at the business partner who double-crossed me and tried to kill me," he said, giving the very general story. "The power she gave me ignited my dormant blood, and I was able to use magic from that point on," he said. "I got my revenge, I lived a dubious life as a scoundrel, and then I met Angela, the Goddess of Life, courted her, had a son with her, married her, and adopted her youngest children as my own. And then poof, one day the World Tree and the Voice decided that I needed to become the second Parvporan deity in this century," he chuckled. "Now I am here, trying to properly split my time as the Keeper of the Keys and Secrets of Knowledge and the Arcane and husband and father to Life," he chuckled. "There has certainly never been a dull moment."
