It was the dead of night but the city was alive as ever. But there was something lurking in the shadows of the alleyways. A creature. A monster. Whenever somebody passed by, the travelers could swear they heard a stomach growling but they never knew where it came from. This monster had three pure white eyes, the third eye was on his forehead. A pair of horns stretched from his head and the edges of his body faded into the shadows, as though he was never really solid at any one point. The monster's jaw opened as he smelled the sweet meats coming from the marketplace. There was so much food. Food that he didn't have to hunt down. Food he didn't have to kill. His body faded into the shadows and he began traveling from shadow to shadow until he made it to the marketplace.

He had managed to travel to the alleyway right behind the meat stall that was being run by a large butcher who was shouting out for people to have a look at his wares. The monster opened up his jaws and waited, like a hungry alligator just beneath the water. Then the large butcher turned away from his stall for one moment. The monster darted out from the shadows and snatched up a raw steak in his mouth. The surprised merchant looked at the monster in horror as it ran away from the stall, assuming that the monster was trying to catch him instead.

"M-monster!" The merchant shouted in terror.

But by then the monster was already gone. The wolf-like creature had already gone into an alleyway and was making its way to the edge of the town where he could eat his meal in peace. When he reached the edge of the town, he tore into the meat like a wild animal. Bits and pieces of the meat flung everywhere as the monster devoured the delicious flesh. Soon the monster finished his meal but he was still hungry. Less hungry than before and he could feel himself grow slightly more powerful after getting the meal, but his stomach was hardly full. He would have returned to the meat but his instincts were screaming of the danger that lie there. Instead, he began to walk towards the edge of the town, sniffing for any meals that were thrown into the garbage or any carcasses left by wild animals.

There were few things on his mind other than survival. He couldn't remember where he was or who he once was. The few things he understood were not to kill any creatures, survival, and what people were saying around him. Everything else was tangled up between chopped up memories and phrases that he couldn't fully grasp. It was as though somebody had taken his brain and scrambled it up, keeping only a select few things intact. The world was every changing and shifting but he was just a floating ghost among it all. A mindless ghost that didn't understand its own name.
