The journey here had been a long one. An unusually long one. Once more was he a stowaway on a random ship, and once more he was at the mercy of the one at the helm. Fen had adapted to a more nomadic lifestyle, having grown slightly more comfortable with traveling solo. His quest to locate his parents was a still ongoing one, though with no leads as to where to find them, he felt like he was back at square one. With no leads to follow, he fell back into his old routine. Wander.

Yet this time was a bit different. Although he didn't enjoy it, hiding away on ships wasn't uncommon for the small boy, with little money to his name to official afford passage. His small size and forced tendency to only be out while others were sleeping allowed him to fairly consistently stowaway unnoticed, save for tiny puncture wounds mysteriously popping up on people's necks. Typically, he was able to space his feedings out so that by the time anyone had noticed a trend, he had long since vanished.

With the extended travel time, however, people had started to talk. And it didn't take long for them to put the pieces together. Before long the entire ship was on the lookout for the vampire menace. Suddenly, whereas Fen had been able to roam around freely at night, there were more people on guard than ever. So when the ship finally docked, he hastily tried to remove himself from that situation.

Unfortunately in his haste, he was less subtle. He had managed to duck out, mostly unnoticed, but a couple of eagle eyed men had spotted him as he fled.

"There he is! Get him boys!" a gruff voice shouted at him. The boy's brisk walk turned into a full on sprint, running as fast as his short legs would carry him. Unfamiliar with the new city he found himself in, he weaved in and out of every alleyway he could find, erratically changing directions in a desperate attempt to lose his trackers. Before long he had managed to ditch almost all of them. Almost.

Knowing the city a lot better, one managed of the sailors had managed to cut Fen off, causing the young vampire to slam straight into him. While the man was barely fazed, this knocked Fen right on his back, and the temporary disorientation let his assailant pick him up by his collar, slamming the poor boy into a nearby wall.

"Ya got a lot of nerve, stashin' away on our ship. An' a vampire, no less" the man pulled a knife from his pocket "Guess I can take care of two problems at once"

She had no choice but to stop here, as the bag thrown over her shoulder was getting light from the low amount of supplies that she had. Of course, she would rather bypass the city altogether like any smart civilian would be doing. Raine could handle herself, that was for sure, but pirates, when they banded together, were some of the most ruthless groups that one could come across. Thankfully for her, it seemed the pirate haven was in distress at something else that was going on in the city walls. Go in and then get out, rather sleep out in the Virens than pay for lodging here.

So she did just as she instructed herself to do, went in a got the simple amount of supplies from the seaport vendors that she could. The supplies that they did hold, were not of the best quality but it would suffice to get back to Adeluna. Thanking the vendors and paying what she needed she stored the goods in her traveling bag and tossed it over her shoulder again before making her way back to the city gates. As she made her way, she was pushed aside by a group of sailors running through the streets, thankfully she managed to catch her footing.

”Pirates, bastards every single one of them.” She hissed under her breath as she got back on her way. The sooner she got out of this place the better. Yet, this would not be the case, because as she walked past an alley her eye caught a glimpse of the scene that she was not too fond of. A pirate seemed to have a boy pinned to the wall, a dagger out ready to gut him. Her ears barely caught the sound of the word vampire as the pirate spoke. She let out a sigh as she stopped. it can’t be helped I suppose.

”If you are trying to kill a vampire, that small knife of your’s won’t do you any good. Got to know what they are weak to.” She spoke up as she approached the pair, almost sounding like she was on the pirates' side of things. Of course, the pirate himself didn’t like that a woman was speaking to him in such a way and held the knife out at her and looked over.

“Back off woman, this is none of your concern! Bastard is a stowaway who been sipping on us. No buzz off before I take care of ye as well.”

Raine rolled her eyes and dropped her bag down to the ground. Quickly she rushed forward behind the man and unsheathed the blade at her waist. Before the pirate got to react to her advance she struck the back of his neck with the pommel of the blade. The pirates' eyes rolled to the back of his head as he let go of his grip on the boy. He collapsed with a heavy thud from the blow, Raine had made sure to kill him but he wouldn’t be waking anytime soon from it.

”Are you alright child?” She questioned as she resheathed her blade. ”Best get out of her soon, rest of his crew probably still on high alert for you as well.”

Fen kicked and thrashed with his full might the moment he saw the man produce a blade. He managed to land a kick to his assailant's leg, though if this had any effect it was only to make him even angrier. When desperation finally hit, he even attempted to bite the man, though thanks to his knowledge of what Fen was, this too proved ineffective. Try as he might, even his best efforts did little to loosen the man's grip on his collar.

When they were approached by another, Fen initially believed that things had only gotten worse for him. He didn't recall any females on the ship that had brought him here, but as he knew first hand that hatred for vampires could make allies out of even the most bitter enemies. And yet, despite the advice that she offered, the knife that was previously aimed at him turned her direction. When she unsheathed a larger blade, Fenriz was uncertain whether it's target would be himself, his attacker, or maybe even both. Fen squeezed his eyes shut. Whoever was going to be on the receiving end, he was certain he did not wish to witness it.

Because Fen couldn't see, he didn't properly brace for the man's unyielding grip finally coming loose, which caused them both to tumble to the ground. Unlike the now unconscious pirate, however, Fen was capable of getting back up. And get back up he did, quickly springing back to his feet, and turning to the one that had aided him.

"Yeah… I'm okay. T-thanks" he replied, feeling a little relieved to see her blade return to its sheath. Despite the rescue, she sounded like she wasn't unwise as to what he was, nor did she sound like she was unfamiliar with his kind. Whatever the reason she might have for sparing him mattered little to him. Having her knew about what he was, and for her to be okay with, or at least indifferent to it, oddly enough, made this one of the more convenient interactions he had ever had.

"I-I don't really know the city" he said, her warning about the remainder of the crew planting a seed of worry deep in his stomach. He looked up at her with pitiful eyes "I don't really know where to go. What if they find me? Do you know where I can go and hide?"

Thoughts flowing into another, another concern was brought to the forefront "And what about you? What if they come after you for helping me? There were a lot of guys on that boat, miss. You should probably hide too…"

"And what about this guy?" Fen pointed a small finger at the unconscious heap of a man that lay before the both of them "We can't just leave him here, can we?"

Showing concern for someone that had made an attempt on his life certainly wasn't the smartest idea. It was a trait that had landed him in trouble previously, and given his seeming inability to break this bad habit, was likely to land him in hot water again in the future. More than likely sooner rather than later, the concept of urgency, and the word soon, apparently meaning equally little to him.
