Grey walked along the shore finally settling into the sand and looking longingly out across the almost still waters. The grey cloaked man sat in silent contemplation until one of the full moons began to rise. Its silver reflection sliding across the waters until it touched him. With every wave he could hear Her call. The soft hissing of the sand and the rattle of the rocks farther down calmed him and he pulled a tiny flute from under his shirt and began to softly play. The water answered foaming and chuckling as it rocked back and forth in answer to his music. He let go of the flute, though it continued to play, and echoed its soft, mournful melody as he began to sing. His high, sweet voice a bright counterpoint to the flutes mournful cry. He sang of birth and the pain and shock of it all. He sang of the simple joys of childhood. Of a babe suckling and growing free under the tuteledge of loving parents. Of the confusion of a teenager, longing for a beauty he was too afraid to approach, of adulthood and that one, heart pounding moment when he dared asked and she softly said yes. The joy of love, the pain of seeing his own children cry and finally of seeing their children cry. Of the comfort of love matured and shared. Of gardening and all the simple things associated with an aging pair. Finally he sang of the bitter loss as she breathed her last in his arms and he had spent most of his days not not always in mourning but in rejoicing in the time they had had. But not tonight. Finally his song softened and matched the minor key of the flute. His breath caught for a moment in the pain of her loss, but he knew soon they would finally be together once more and this time there would be no parting. As both his and the flutes song ended together he looked up and saw his mother bathed in the moonlight before him. He stood to reach for her but she rebuked him,* No Grey. Your song isn't finished yet.* And she melted into the waters that were calm once more. And once more the silly, lonely little man bowed his head.
