Fun and games weren't exactly Maalik's forte, but when the invitation came to the mansion, his master thought it was a good idea for him to go ahead and scope this festival of sorts in the cemetery.  There was something about it that Lord Volkov found odd but he is proven correct, then it would be a delicacy for the titan of fear. Maalik would go on but before getting hinted at to take Raine along. Apparently, his master had sound reasoning for it; he would be too suspicious looking and by taking her along, he would draw less attention. That, and Nemesis being amused slightly with how well he had been getting close with her, to which he largely ignored but followed the suggestion anyway.

Arriving at Angela's, it was only a matter of time that he located her and asked if she would want to attend. He'd have to keep a close eye since she had never been to one of these before.

"We have to keep a low profile, but there'd be plenty of treats and other things…", he offered, scratching the back of his neck. He also knew that there'd be plenty of stuff that would attract her attention and become a permanent part of her evergrowing nest. Regardless, he'd keep a close eye on her and they could attend the fair without conflict. That was his hope at least. There would be many distractions and perhaps it would serve as a good learning process for her to show restraint. But the more he thought about it, the more he was convinced that such a word not only didn't belong in her vocabulary, but such a thing would also hardly exist in her world.

The pair arrived at the cemetery a couple of hours after dusk and sure enough, there was an array of strange tents, wondrous buildings, and everything else you'd find in a normal festival. "Be on your toes, Raine. Wait…I mean figuratively", he corrected himself as he held onto her hand to keep her from wandering off. The last thing Maalik wanted was to lose her in the midst of the crowd. "This place just feels wrong, like Lord Volkov said earlier." Maalik looked about with a lazy stare;  everything was supposed to be frightful, yer he didn't feel any such feelings right now.

"What do you make of it, Raine? Do you feel scared on these grounds?", he asked as they started to pass by the booths that hosted food and games. The pleasant aromas of food fell upon his nose and he was sure that she would be affected as well.

Raine

Raine was harvesting some roots when Maalik came to get her. She was covered head to toe in dirt and didn’t seem to mind since she was in her element. “REALLY?! We get to go?!” She bounced a little and put the plant back in the ground before giving the roots over to a clergy member. “I NEED A BATH!”

After a bath, she dried her hair and ran back to Maalik at least she looked cute. She was hard to put an age on as well with her youthful appearance. It was hard to believe she was in her fifties. “Treats? What kind? Like the chocolate from Karuyo?” She was sure he still had nightmares about her sugar high.

Restraint for Raine was like asking the ocean not to rise its tides. She was peculiar if only because her brother had kept her locked away. She couldn’t help but get excited over new experiences and things.

Her hair almost stood up on ends once they got to the fairgrounds. Her eyes were bright and wide as she almost instinctively tried to bolt away from Maalik. Luckily he had a hold of her hand and it only took her a few moments of looking at it before she kept to his side, “Right, low profile.”

When he told her to be on her toes she had already literally started to be on her toes. “Oh,” she said as she lowered herself. “It’s an expression?” She had never heard it before. “To be…” She put her finger on her lips as she tried to figure out what it could mean. “To be… ready for anything?” She was smart that much Angela knew. It was just trying to get practice into her.

Raine looked everywhere with her rainbow eyes. She was tilting her head and staring up at the large ornate clock it was glowing. “I’m not scared because I have you.” She made the comment but she didn’t look away from the clock. “There’s a lot of magic around that,” she pointed up to it surprisingly serious and mature. “It’s getting stronger by the minute but… I can’t tell why.” She looked frustrated but then saw the festival games and tables.

“WHAT ARE THOSE?!” The excitement was heavy in her voice as she lost any serious poise she had.

The moment she mentioned the chocolate from before, he groaned loudly. That was a fun experience- keeping her from bouncing off the walls when she overdid eating those treats. "Yes, and plenty more. Remember though, not to eat them all at once", he sighed, rubbing at the corners of his eyes. Aside from worrying about that, he was sure that they wouldn't run into too much trouble. Still, he would look out for her just in case someone or something tried to take advantage of her naiveness.

He had been wise to take hold of her and at least she was aware of it and the meaning. "Right."

"Indeed. There's something about this place, can't say for certain, but something's not right. Just…be careful, Raine." He knew that she wasn't stupid, just heavily sheltered. It hadn't been her fault and he still pondered if Angela had intervened a bit too late when it came to her and her brother. Still, he couldn't question what already had been done. He led her around while her curiosity was peaked. He stopped a moment and looked towards her as she stated why she wasn't frightened. He was about to say something when his own eyes followed her finger towards the clock. "Yes, you have a stronger affiliation to magic than I do. Perhaps Nemesis was correct to be concerned about this place", he spoke, his hand growing a tad tighter around hers. He tilted his head in thought, stronger by the minute, but how and why…? She seems to know just about as much of that as he did, still, it had been a good idea to take her along.

But then she saw the games and he mentally slapped his hand against his face. They ventured over to one of the booths where there were bottles stacked up in a pyramid and above the curator was an assortment of stuffed animals.

"Hey there, folks. Care to test your luck and win these lovely prizes?", the curator asked with a wide smile. It was throwing Maalik off for some reason.

"I suppose so. I take it that I throw a ball and try to knock it over?" He had heard about these games before; he also knew that many of these were rigged to high heavens.

"Of course. You get three chances, sir. Try your luck and win something for your little sweetheart", he gestured at Raine.

"She's not my…oh nevermind, just gimme the balls."

Once the balls were handed to him, Maalik mentally weighted each one, trying to find whether or not something was off about them. Nope, even weight distribution. then he looked towards the bottles; it was possible that they were glued together to keep from being knocked off. Well, he had an idea for that then; he poised himself and readied to throw the first ball. He followed through and tossed it at the bottle that sat at the bottom right, and sure enough, the whole thing didn't move. And then he did it again with the second, only this time he aimed for the center of the pyramid. Once more, it didn't move. He readied the third one, already convinced that it wouldn't fare any better when he started to channel some magic into the hand that held his ball. Once he threw it, a small but strong gust of wind trailed behind it, amplifying the strength of it and when it hit the pyramid, the whole thing shattered. The curator looked on in disbelief while Maalik looked high above at the prizes. "Go on ahead and take whichever one, Raine. The nice man did say you could have one."
