After they rested the twins were put on Ojuk to continue their journey to Vada. The Valley of Vada was an intense place full of rainbow crystal rivers and crystal trees. However, where the twins were going was far under the ground. They were looking for Moon Crystal Flowers. Special flowers that grew once a year. They had brought their packs to store as many of them as possible. While they were derailed getting there the twins seemed alright with it. “The flowers bloom for a week before they die off… We’re not that far into the week they bloom so we can grab as many as we want.” Gaea told Olvar as he led them into the valley.

It wasn’t long before Gemma showed Olvar their secret way down into the underground caverns where the flowers grew. The walls were light up with glowing mushrooms and crystals of all different colors. It was almost like a dream as they got deeper into the caverns. When the caverns finally opened up hundreds of flowers were spread out and more were popping up by the second.

They looked like pure crystal and they shimmered rainbow in the light of the cavern. Gaea and Gemma slid off of Ojuk and took each other’s hands. “Now you will get to see our specialty.” Gaea smiled up at Olvar before the two started an odd dance. Magic flowed between them like webbing as they danced around the cave for only a few moments. In the time they did that the place exploded to life with larger flowers. The flowers even began to creep up the walls.

Gaea looked exhausted for a moment as Gemma grabbed her bag and started to pick flowers. Magic was never easy for her as it was for Gemma but that’s why Gemma used so much of it when they were together weaving. Looking back at Olvar she moved over to him and looked at Ojuk. “Ojuk? Can you go be with Gemma and make sure she stays out of trouble?” She gave the warg a smile before looking back up at Olvar.

“Do you want to take a walk with me?” There were many things she wanted to talk to the lycanthrope about and none of them would be easy for someone like her. She took his arm and they went off into the direction of another cavern that was still flooded with the flowers thanks to the sisters.

“Oh brother… they are gross Ojuk.” Gemma teased the warg as she made a flower crown out of the crystals and put it on his head.

Gaea walked close with him content on only just holding his arm for the walk until she stopped them when they were out of hearing range of Gemma. “I…” It was hard for her as she struggled with her wording. “Thank you for coming and getting me out of those Fields. And…” She bit her lip softly as she thought about it. “And I’m sorry I went after you in the woods when you told me not to. I guess I was scared of losing you to something I could stop… and I should have had more faith in you.”

This was obviously hard for Gaea as she thought more about it. “I get this ache in my heart when I think about you getting hurt and I know it shouldn’t be there but it is. And I know I’ve felt it before. I care about you Olvar.” Her mind flashed to their kiss from after he woke up and she looked away for a moment. “I’ve not had much luck as you could probably tell from William. So I am not the best with words at the moment but… I like you.” Gods, she sounded like a young girl expressing herself so she laughed a bit. “I don’t know where that will go or where I think I’m going with this so…” She pushed herself up and kissed him lightly.

Upon arriving in the Valley, there was no question as to where they were. Everything glittered like fragmented glass, from the trees jutting out of the earth to the crystalline rivers cutting along the curves of the land. Magic hung in the air like a mist, making the hairs on the back of Olvar’s neck stand at attention. This was a place he rarely went to if he could help it, but occasionally his travels required it. More often than not he was able to skirt around the edge, either through the Highlands or along the edge of the Dhabu Mountains. It was an unnerving place for him, though the exact reason for his discomfort continued to evade him. In Vada, he let the twins take over navigating, since only they knew where they needed to go to get their flowers. He simply followed along and remained alert for any potential dangers.

As their path dipped downward, eventually leading to the opening of a tunnel, Olvar’s unease grew. There was nothing alarming about the entrance to the caverns, simply a memory of a very dark cave, a very big monster, and a very absent friend. But the deeper they traveled, the less this place resembled that cliffside cavern he’d wandered into back in his homeland. This place was illuminated by a myriad of colors gleaming in chunks off of every surface. He wasn’t sure if the fungus was lighting up the crystals, the crystals were lighting up the fungus, or if they both were creating light of their own.

One of the deeper tunnels opened up into a wide cavern, crystalline flowers blooming brightly before their very eyes. Olvar stared in awe. He hadn’t known anything like this even existed, let alone right below the ground. He glanced over as the twins slid off of Ojuk’s back. Their specialty? Picking flowers could be considered a specialty? As the twins began their dance, pulling more flowers up from the soil with every step, he stepped back to be sure he wouldn’t interfere. It seemed like something that would be sinful to interrupt.

After filling the room with flowers, walls and all, the pair ended their dance to start picking their flowers. Gemma did anyway. Gaea appeared a bit winded by the use of magic, and he eyed her curiously as she approached. “Of course,” he answered, then glanced at Ojuk. The warg yawned, shook out his fur, then ambled over to Gemma. Olvar saw the warg’s nervous behaviors, but once he joined Gemma the beast relaxed.

Olvar gave Gaea his arm and walked along with her, the flowers sliding delicately against their legs as they went. He enjoyed the gentle light of the blooms until the half-nymph pulled them to a stop, and hazel eyes curiously met pink ones. His head tipped to one side as she stumbled over her words, but he said nothing. He wasn’t always the best at talking either. If she needed time, he would give it.

When her words finally came, he felt a flutter in his belly, and it took him a moment to recognize it as anxiety. Since his first year on the road, he’d only ever had one night stands. Flings for a few days at best. Nothing serious, only physical affection before parting ways and hitting the road once again. What Gaea was saying was in the same vein as what he’d heard before, from those who had thought his time had meant more for them. It was unnerving on one hand, but on the other he felt a thrill of excitement. It was easy to claim to care after a single night, but Gaea had been getting to know Olvar for the last six weeks. She knew him by now, at least somewhat. Certainly better than others who he’d gotten involved with.

As she leaned up to kiss him, he found one of her hands to take gently in his as he returned the affection. He let go again after a small squeeze, then moved the hand to her cheek instead. The lycan rested his forehead lightly against hers. “I’d happily go to the Fields again if that was what it took to bring you back. I haven’t let anyone get close before. Not really. But if you feel something between us, and you want to see how far it goes, then I’ll give you my best.”

The crystal flowers were unique with not only their look but their special properties. Gaea put out her hand as they walked and felt the top of the tall flowers. Gaea was nervous and it was so hard to put into words what she wanted to tell him. She could feel butterflies in her stomach and she forced herself to take a deep breath.

Gaea was certainly trying to be taken serious about her confession. She didn’t want him to think that this was something she just jumped to. However, when she kissed him and he returned it she let a small smile come to her lips. Holding his hands softly she listened to him. Her pink eyes to locked to his hazel. Once he brought up the Fields she bit her lip softly. “About that…”

She held her breath for a minute. “I sort of told them to fuck off and that I didn’t want their offer. They told me if I went with you I wouldn’t be able to come back. I would rather be with you and Gemma.” There was a short laugh that left her lips as she thought about it some more. “I suppose that means that I would love to see how far this goes considering I told my entire nymph ancestry to screw off.” She spoke of it like a joke as they had already disowned her as it was. She closed the gap with their lips again and kept him close as her arms went around his neck.

Their movements were slow at first. It was probably due to how uncertain Gaea appeared at times. Scared was the better term for what was going on but eventually she got more confident with him. Their clothes came next as they consummated their decision to try to see what they had. Olvar was oddly gentle but it wasn’t unliked by Gaea who was still a tad skiddish in areas. When they were done Gaea laid on his chest propped up and plucking the crystal flowers. There was a dumb smile on her face as she tucked the flowers behind his ears with a chuckle. He was warm to her and that was welcomed in the cold cavern air.

“I bet Gemma is rolling her eyes hard right now,” Her voice was soft as she spoke. “Though I don’t want to hear it from her after what she did.” It was obvious that Gemma instigated a lot of issues and turned around only to do it herself. More or less her sister liked to be a pain in the ass. “Thank you for giving me a chance like this Olvar… It’s been a long time since I had someone or could trust someone outside of Gemma.”

Gaea put off getting up as long as she could before she kissed him and got up. “We should get back to Gemma before she charges over here on Ojuk and makes us get up.” She would prefer her sister not interrupt anymore than she had been. After they dressed she took Olvar by the hand and took him back out over to where the others were.

“It’s about time you two. It doesn’t take that long to kiss and make up.” Gemma said in jest as she smiled in their direction. “Right Ojuk?” She pat the warg’s head as she continued to pick.

“Well… That’s not as childish as I thought you were going to go for.” Gaea blinked a bit as she let go of Olvar’s hand and grabbed her bag. She was quick to meet up with her sister and start to help fill the bags. It appeared like they were talking and there were a few times that Gaea looked up with a red face at her sister. “That’s none of your business.”

“I AM JUST CURIOUS!” Gemma exclaimed as she stuffed more of the flowers into the bags. Once they were done they headed back over to Olvar and Gaea noticed he was looking at his blade.

“That’s a bad crack.” She looked concerned but not overly so as she came over. “I know where we can get this fixed but we have to up north more.”

“If you two go up north more… I’m going to take a short cut to Mamlak and meet Hamon.”

“Oh joy… Lover boy is waiting for you?” Gaea looked with interested eyes at Gemma who shrugged.

“I can take the flowers back to Adeluna for you… and you two can go to Sularia. Spend time together without me. Besides, Sularia is the one place that would repair that flawlessly and you could probably get it repaired for free by our family.” Gemma shrugged towards Olvar now. “Hamon is a mercenary so he can escort me back down to Adeluna. Not to mention it's better if just the two of you go to Arri… The desert is brutal and you'll want to ride Ojuk to get through it fast. Gaea knows the route through for a safe and easy trip."

So Gaea had given up her connection to her ancestors in order to come back with him. That must have been who she was talking to in the Fields. He was glad. In there time together, he’d grown rather fond of the half-nymph. As she shifted closer to him, he moved to meet her, speaking softly. “I’m glad you did,” he told her in a low voice. Though she set their pace and led their actions, Gaea came across as skittish. In an effort to relax her, Olvar kept every touch gentle. He wanted her to be comfortable with everything they did, regardless of his own desires.

Once they’d finished, the lycan settled back with an arm lightly around her, the other behind his head. The flowers clustered around them, as if hiding them away from the world. As she tucked plucked blooms into his hair, he sighed happily and closed his eyes. “Gemma can think what she wants,” he answered dismissively, then glanced over at her with a sluggish smile. “No need to thank me. I could say the same to you.”

He savored the time they had together there in the caverns while it lasted, though Gaea’s timing was probably best. Gemma wouldn’t care what state they were in if she decided she was bored. So he stood and stretched, donning his gear once more. His hand snagged hers as they made their way back.

Upon returning, Olvar glanced at Gemma with vague amusement, then went to retrieve his weapons from Ojuk’s saddle. While the girls finished picking their flowers, he could at least maintain his blades. As he checked over his seax knife, he was pleased to find no damage, and went about oiling the metal to keep it clean. Every so often he would peer up at Gaea, at one point catching a whispered question between the twins. It was clearly not meant for his ears, but above average hearing worked to his amusement. He smirked.

With his first blade done, he moved on to his shortsword. It had taken a nasty tumble during William’s ambush, and he worried now for the integrity of the steel. The edges seemed fine, but upon flipping it over, the flat of the blade was discovered bearing a nasty crack, a good two inches long. The lycan winced. There was no way he could use the sword in such condition. His eyes jumped back to Gaea at her input. “How far north? To Arri?”

He listened with interest to the banter between the two twins. Not only was he surprised that the two of them ever split off from each other–they had seemed attached at the hip for much of the journey–but he was surprised that it was for a man on Gemma’s part. The corner of his mouth quirked upward. “You’re sure you can make it to Mamlak safely?” he asked the younger twin. Her magic was more stable than Gaea’s but he’d been hired as an escort. If he lost one of them again, he’d never trust himself for an escort job again.

“If you’re both sure, then I have no problem with continuing north while Gemma visits her boy toy.”
