It was simpler than she thought. The Mother Wolf had successfully got Victoria to the stream. Taking her under the columns, the woman turned to look at her niece. “What are you up to?” The aunt asked curiously. She knew something was amiss. Before Katerina could reply, her grandmother stepped out from one of the pillars.
“What the hell is going in here?!” Victoria eyes narrowed at her niece then looked at her mother. They hadn't been alone together in hundreds of year. Every chance Victoria got, she alluded her.
“Just hear her out…” Katerina couldn't let this bond to be un-mended. “What if she died tomorrow? Could you live with knowing you didn't mend your bond, Victoria? She is the only mother you will ever have.” The Mother Wolf hoped her words would ne enough to open a door for the two
“Alright. You have 5 mins.” Hearing her Aunt's words, The Mother Wolf walked away. She sat by one of the large trees just outside the columns and waited.
“I know you will never forgive me. But…I can't keep this from you any longer….your husband was evil.” If Victoria didn't cut off Kalena in this moment, she would of finished what she was saying. “You've said this since the beginning.” Victoria felt as if she was hearing something her mother had said a thousand times before.
“Tell me Victoria. Were all those bruises I saw from “falling down”? We both know they weren't. He beat you. He closed you in. Before you were such a free spirit. You were open minded and loved society.” Kalena took a step forward toward her daughter while she spoke.
“You know nothing. You really think beating a woman should have the sentence if death? He changed after the baby; he didn't touch me.” Victoria stepped back as she crossed her arms.
“He didn't touch you. But he touched other women. If Thomas was here, he would tell you.”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“You never knew. You turned a blind eye to his antics. I never did. Thomas never did. Derek wanted to kill him. Even when he met you he slept around. Why do you think you lost your friends? And when one threatened to tell because he never really wanted her. He killed her. That was why the guards were there that night. He was a murderer. He might have killed Julia. And he could've killed you and I couldn't take the chance.” Kalena had stepped before her daughter whose eyes filled with tears. “I would do anything for you, sweetheart. You are my baby girl.” Reaching up, Kalena cupped her daughter's cheek.
The moment her hand touched her skin, Victoria broke down in tears. She never wanted to admit to herself how evil he really was. The wolf held onto her love for him for so long, it was hard to let go. “Mother…. I'm sorry.” She let the words slip from her lips and she fell into her mother's arms. She felt like a the sixteen year old she used to be.
She didn't know how long she had cried for, maybe almost an hour? Pulling away from her mother, Victoria notice they had sat down on one of the benches. “I love you, Sweetheart. Everything will be okay.” Kalena cupped her daughter's cheek once more before kissing her forehead.
“Come. We must speak to your brother. It's time for his truth to come to light.” Standing up, Kalena took her daughters hand as she followed. “What do you mean?” Victoria asked as she walked up the path with her mother.
“He needs to tell Will he is his father.” The answer that Kalena gave was not what Victoria was expecting. Her eyes grew wide in realization. “I knew it!” She replied. They both laughed.
Making they're way towards Alastair's cabin, Victoria couldn't wait to speak to him about Wilhelm. Her mother on the other hand, was trying to figure out a way to convince him. She suppressed her sigh when seeing his home. Taking a deep breath, they both entered.
They found him sitting beside his fire as he cleaned his bow. "So, Will is your son, huh? When did you and Katherine even have time to do the dirty?" Victoria said while sitting down on the chair on the opposite of him. "Victoria!" Her mother side and moved over to stand beside her daughter's chair. Alastair's eyes shot up to look at them both. No longer able to clean his bow.

When they finally reached the cabin her uncle was staying at, Katerina eyed her uncle who spoke. “We know she is here… look we are not trying to kick her out.” Katerina paused to sigh. “I want to talk to her. This is her home too.” The Mother Wolf finished and hoped her uncle would let her in.
Alastair eyed her for a moment then nodded. “Alright.” Was all he said before walking in.
Kalena didn't move from her spot on the couch and continued to watch the flames dance. “Alastair. Why don't you show Will how to hunt with a bow? Can't always rely on a sword…. Or powers.” Her comment made the other three look at each other. Will was about to object before his uncle grabbed his collar and just about dragged him out the door.
This made Katerina smile inside, she didn't know why. Maybe it was the little moments they all shared with one another that made her happy. Pushing those thoughts away, she sat on the single couch beside her grandmother. “I suppose you want to know what really happened between my daughter and I?” Kalena eyes finally moved from the fire and to Katerina.
“Yes. I want to know everything. Even what you've kept from her.” Katerina knew deep down that something had transpired for the woman to kill her daughters husband. “Alright.” Kalena agreed. Before she told her store, her eyes moved toward the fire as if picturing the times of old. Katerina almost said something because her grandmother had been quiet for a few moments.
“When she met Marius. It was at a ball. He was low born but still a noblemen. We were royalty. Cousins to the crown. It wasn't that he was lowborn that I didn't like him. I would of let her marry a peasant. But that man was dashing, charismatic, and courageous. Just like her father….” She paused as she pushed old memories away to concentrate on the ones of her daughter. “Victoria was only sixteen…. She didn't know the ways of men. Didn't know that they had secret motives. He was twenty. Unmarried and…after her. And many of the other girls, but she didn't see that. She didn't want to listen to her brother Thomas.”
Kalena would of went on but Katerina cut her off. “What does any of this have to do with his death?” Katerina was impatient. She wanted to know the true reason. “This all has everything to do with his death. Now, listen.” Kalena’s eyes narrowed as she commanded her granddaughter to stay quiet. Being the defiant woman she was, Katerina was about to say something more, but her grandmother held up her finger. Katerina sighed and sat back against the chair; silent.
“My husband, August, liked the boy. But I could tell what kind of man he really was, but my words would never sway my husband…and my poor Victoria, begged to be marry to the man. August accepted the proposal. Against my wishes.” A sigh came through her lips. “They were married only a few months after. It wasn't long till I began to see how controlling he was. She lost most of her friends. Mostly, because he had slept with them all. I had someone watching his every step. Thomas tried to watch him as well, but then your mother came along. I don’t blame him. But that is another story. Victoria used to love balls, then slowly became a recluse. Her dresses that were bright and beautiful, too low cut for my standers, became higher and dull collars. She tried… She tried to cover the bruises, but I would catch glimpses. The ones on her eyes though… My girl would always say she fell. But I knew it was all a lie, I wanted to kill him then, but I couldn’t. She became pregnant, and he wasn’t really there. He was sleeping around much more often. My daughter always thought he was on business in other towns, he became a spice merchant, you see. After my daughter gave birth…. It was an amazing few months. Julia was my first grandchild, and was she an angel! I miss her… to this day.” Kalena had to fight back the tears as she took a deep breath.
“This is why I had him beheaded.” Taking one more deep breath she began her ending. “One night… One of my men followed Edger into the residence of a very wealthy woman in town, he had met her at a ball that was held that night. Her guards were sent off with her husband who was out for the night. Anyway… When my personal guard heard the screams, he entered her home. He said they were yelling about how he took advantage of her and wasn’t going to go away with her. He said when the screaming stopped he thought they had made up. Instead…. He saw Edgar carry the body out and dump it into the stream. Edger killed her! The next night I was going to have the my guards come for him, so I asked Victoria over for dinner. That day will always haunt me….” This was when a tear ran down her cheek.
“When my guards came into their home. They found him asleep in his bed, and Julia….was dead.” Kalena’s voice cracked. She tried to fight back even more tears that threatened to fall. “It was rear back then…but it happened. Sometimes a baby would stop breathing without any explanation… My daughter fought me after I had him thrown into jail. She said he would never do such a thing, but I didn’t care. He was a murderer, and I would not let him murder my baby girl. So. I killed him and told everyone that he killed Julia.”
With Kalena’s last works, Katerina didn’t know what to say. The mother wolf was speechless.“Victoria… Doesn’t know..” She finally said after a moment of silence. “No. I haven’t been able to tell her. She blames me. Says too this day it wasn’t him. He was her first love. I don’t think she ever moved on.” A sigh left her lips as she stood from her spot and stepped over to the fireplace. Her hand rested on the mantle.
“I would of done the same.” Katerina said as she thought of her daughters, of Kiyomi. “If that demon was still alive, I would’ve ripped him to pieces…” The Mother wolf thought. Clearing her throat, Katerina walked over to stand by her Grandmother. “Kalena. I think it's time to reunite mother and daughter. It has been too long.” Katerina’s words made her grandmother turn to look at her. “Even if she knew. I don’t think she would ever forgive me.” Tears came to Kalena’s eyes. “I just wanted to protect her.” Her words spoke all the sorrow she had held in her heart for so long. Her tears fell down her face then, ones she had been holding for a thousand years. Katerina frowned and hugged her Grandmother. She let her cry for a moment before pulling away. “It’s time. She needs to know you still love her.” Pulling away, she smiled at her grandmother, kindly. “In the morning. Sleep here till tomorrow, I’ll lead her to the stream after breakfast.” With that, the wolf retired to her room.

The clink of Kalena setting down her teacup was the only thing that was heard in the quiet house. Alastair had left for a few moments leaving her alone to her thoughts. They were mostly of her daughter. “If only you knew what truly transpired….I can’t break your heart.” The Grandmother wolf sighed as she stood up to look around the small space. She had been spoiled for so long, the wolf forgot how it was to live lower.
The grandmother was not the one you see here. Clothed in soft expensive silk dress, with diamond rings, and pearl earrings. Many years ago she lived in the desert, in a small town. Being the eldest of a family of six and a father who could barely feed them all. Losing her mother was the hardest thing for Kalena, especially her family. Her youngest sister died of pneumonia because her father couldn't afford medicine.
One day a man came to town, and saw her by the towns bazaar. She was sixteen then, niece to the ways of men. Trying to sell her trinkets she had been making with her siblings, the man came up to her with a smile. He must have been in his early twenties. “I will buy them all.” His voice still echoed in Kalena's mind two thousand years later. His eyes shone the brightest blue she had ever seen. The grandmother remembered she was so enamored by them. Days later, the man came to her father and they agreed on a deal. The man would feed his family and take care of them of them all, if he would have Kalena's hand. It wasn't love that drew them together, it was her beauty.
Moving her hand up, the wolf demon moved her hair behind her ear. She heard the sound of footsteps before they entered. Alastair soon entered with a his arms full of firewood. “Thank you, son.” Said the grandmother as she moved over to sit on the single seating couch by the fire. She watched her son place the firewood in the fireplace and light it. When he finished Alastair moved to the couch beside the one his mother sat at.
They were quiet for a long time, watching the fire. It was Alastair that spoke first when he sensed his son and niece. Standing from his chair, he moved to open the door. He stepped out as he grabbed his crossbow and arrow. He was going to tell them that he was going to go hunting. He didn't want them to know that she was there.
Closing the door behind him he was greeted by his two family members. “Will. Katerina. I'm about to go hunting. What do you need” His tone was his usually. Calm and collected. Not excited or sad. Just monotone.

The mother wolf had retired to her room. Slamming the door behind her, she paced her room. Victoria has once told her the story of her mother. At first she couldn't believe that a mother would cut a man from her daughter's life. All because she didn't like the man. Katerina could now see why Victoria was the way she was. She had a cruel mother. As soon as Kalena walked into the dinning room, Katerina could tell what kind of woman her grandmother was. Headstrong, controlling, uncaring woman. The mother wolf would never let her daughter's be around her. “ If it came down to it, Kalena would save her own skin… probably already sacrificed many for her own.” Katerina couldn't understand why she was so angry.
The sudden opening of the door made her turn towards it. “Wha–” A sigh of relief came to her seeing the love of her life. “Nik. Please don't say I overdid things. Or I was rash…” As she spoke she turned her eyes to the balcony. Slowly, she walked out and leaved on the stone railing.
Instead of saying anything, he came up behind her and hugged her back against him. “Your used to being alone.” He paused after thinking of the right words, “When your parents passed. You thought you had no one. You lived your life pushing people away. Now you have daughters. A brother. Aunts and uncles. And you don't know how to feel, what to do, or if you should let them in…..” He sighed and gently turned her around to face him. Her eyes looked down at his chest. Avoiding his eyes. “Your not alone anymore, Katerina. You have people who love you and want to be here beside you. Yes someday you daughter's will have lives of their own. But they will always be there….. Kat, my love, you shouldn't push family away so easily…. Maybe you should talk to them before you turn from them. We all have demons in our past….we all have a chance to raise. Give her a chance.” He was silent after that while he reached up to raise her chin. The mother wolf stared into his hazel eyes. Thinking, “He's right…”
“Thank you.” Katerina whispered before kissing him. It was a soft kiss at first that turned into a passionate one. Nikolaus hands slowly moved down her body to grab her butt. Pulling her up, the vampire sat her onto the stone railing. This was when he pulled away to trace kisses down her neck. The wolf demon's breath was warm against his ear as she moaned.
Nikolaus’ hands moved from their spot on her back to the buckles of her thick belt. In a swift movement they were undone in seconds. Dropping it onto the floor, he was able to pull her shirt over her head. His lips kissed her once more while his hands moved to cup her breasts. The instant his thumbs rubbed her nipples, Katerina let out another moan. His hands moved back to her put to pick her up once more, this time taking her to the bed inside. The wolf demon’s legs automatically wrapped around the vampire while her arms wrapped around his neck.
“Nik…” She moaned into his ear when he laid her on the bed. He didn’t lay down with her, instead, he took off her boots then her pants and undergarments. The vampire was about to move down to her, but the wolf demon sat up on her knees. Reaching up, Katerina slid his suit jacket onto the ground, next was his shirt. When that was removed, the wolf demon kissed his chest down to his belt buckle. The moment she took his manhood into her mouth was when he moaned her name. His head fell back as she stroke and moved her mouth up and down.
Not wanting to climax yet, Nikolaus pushed her back onto the bed. When he crawled on top of her, their lips connected. Kat’s legs circled him as her hand moved down to guide him in. When he entered her, they both moaned aloud. He was still for a moment before he started to move in and out. Slow at first but he soon picked up speed. His vampire side took over and he wanted more. Sitting back, he flipped her onto all fours and started to take her from behind. Their moans filled the room as they continued to make love.
When they both finished, they fell onto the bed. After catching their breath, Katerina turned towards Nikolaus. They stared into each other’s eyes for a long time without speaking, when a knock came to the door. “Coming.” Jumping out of bed, the wolf demon put on her robe that was laying at the foot of the bed. Opening the door, she saw Kiyomi holding a tired Gwen. “She wants you to read her a story.” Kiyomi said as she passed the tired child to her mother. “Mama. Story?” Gwen said as she grabbed onto her mother. “Yes, Story.” Katerina smiled down at her youngest. “I’m going to head to bed, Mom. Goodnight.” Kiyomi said after she kissed Guinevere on the head.
“Goodnight, Sweetheart.” Katerina moved to kiss her eldest daughter goodnight, but Kiyomi moved too quick. She was already down the hall when Katerina realize she was gone. She repressed a sigh as she walked out the room to the room across the hall. Guinevere’s room was the closest to Katerina’s. Unlike the rest of her daughters that were on the floor above or down the hall.
When she entered the dim lit room, Katerina waved her hand and the candles that were scattered around, lit. A giggle escaped Guinevere, that was always her favorite part. “Now. What story will we read tonight? The princess and the frog?” Katerina suggested a book to her daughter who nodded in agreement.
After only a few pages, Guinevere was asleep. Her angelic features made Katerina stay and look at her for a long time. “I love you, Guinevere.” Katerina whisper was followed by a soft kiss on her child’s forehead. With a wave of her hand, the flames of the candles dissipated, but one. A single stayed lit incase the child awoke. Katerina found out early that her baby didn’t like the dark when she was alone in a room. Laying her head down beside her, Katerina sighed. “I would do anything for you….anything.” Katerina sat up and stared out the glassed window. “Hopefully, your still here.” The wolf demon thought before she slowly and quietly got out of the bed.
When she left the room, she knew she had to find Constantine. All feelings aside, she needed to know where Kalena went.
Stepping down the steps to the last floor, Katerina heard the sounds of giggles. Walking into the room she saw her three girls sitting in front of the fireplace on top of pillows; Freya, Eva, and Annette. “Girls.” Katerina said while she sat down on top of her knees. “Mama!” Eva said happily and jumped onto Kat’s lap while hugging her. The mother wolf almost fell over but caught herself; laughing. “Sweety, it is time for bed. For all of you.” Katerina hugged Eva tight and looked around at her other two daughters.
“Okay, Mama….” Eva frowned as she stood up along with Katerina. “Okay. Not too much longer girls. Get to bed soon.” The wolf demon kissed her daughter’s head and was headed out to leave the living area. “Mama…Will we ever see our Gramma Kalena again?” Katerina turned to look at Eva. She was really excited for the night of pampering.
“I hope so..” Turning to head out the door, the mother wolf paused. “I am sorry for my outburst earlier, girls. I will make things right. For everyone.” With that, Katerina left the room and headed out the front doors. Walking down the stone steps, her eyes looked around the courtyard. “Constantine.” She said his name aloud now that she was alone.
“Yes, Ms. Silverstein.” Constantine answered calmly. He appeared behind her as if from nowhere. The unexpected arrival of the vampire didn't startle the wolf demon. Instead she turned to look at him. “Kalena. Where is she?” Katerina asked. “She left with Alastair. They went to his cabin.” Constantine answered.
Katerina nodded. She needed to go alone and hopefully wasn't going to be followed. “Thank you” The Mother Wolf expressed her gratitude and turned to find the path towards the cabin. Before she left the courtyard, the wolf demon looked over her shoulder at Constantine. “Protector. You stay away from my daughter.” This was the last thing she said before disappearing into the darkness of the path. She knew that he would understand her meaning. She had seen the way they looked at each other, but her daughter wasn't ready. Katerina wasn't ready to have her daughter's heart be broken once more. She was in a fragile state.
As she walked down the path, she had forgotten she was only in a robe. With a sigh and a wave of her hand. The wolf demon was engulfed with swirls of fire. The robe she once wore seem to burn away and was replaced with her usual attire; black long sleeve loose shirt, a brown belt like corset, along with black pants and thigh high leather black heeled boots.
“Nice trick, Sis.” The sudden voice behind her made Katerina turn to glance over her shoulder. The wolf demon didn’t stop when she saw her brother, instead she kept walking. The eldest of the wolf demon’s ran up beside her. “You got that look on you.” Wilhelm stated seeing her serious look on his sister’s face. “What face? I don’t have a face.” The mother wolf was oblivious to the looks she would give when she was on a mission.“The mission face. You’re up to something, Kat.”He turned to look at the path ahead, staying with her stride.
“Go back to the castle.” Katerina wasn’t in the mood for his drunken antics. “I haven’t drank since after dinner. I am fine. I want to see are grandmother too.” He paused in his words and finally grabbed his sister. “The more family members we have….I just. I haven’t felt alone in a long time. Since you and the girls, our aunt and uncle. I feel like…ever since we lost our parents…everything is coming full circle. It is like we were all meant to be together.” Saying these words, the eldest wolf look into his sister’s eyes. “We can’t let her leave. We have to help them bury the past, Sis.” He was silent now looking at his sister.
“We will.” Katerina agreed even though that was part of her plan all along. “You are such a pest, you know that?” The youngest wolf cracked a smile at her older brother then started to walk again. “Yep. I know.” Will joked as he started to walk beside her once more.

veryone stood speechless as they looked at their grandmother. Constantine was the one to move towards her first. “Stop.” Alastair said while walking over to his mother. He understood the reasoning behind the outbursts, but he didn’t like having his mother thrown out. “Mother. Come on.”He said while about to grab her elbow. “I’m sorry girl’s I guess we have to wait for that slumber party.” With a frown, the woman walked out with her son in toe.
When they were out of the castle, Kalena turned to look at her eldest son. “You still haven’t told your sister?” She was furious. “How can I tell her that the man she loved more than anything was sleeping around? She is a headstrong woman just like all the women in this family.” He sighed at his words and turned to look at the sky. “She won’t understand. Victoria won’t want to understand. She still holds onto her love for him and Julia. She hasn’t moved on and doesn’t want to.” Turning back to his mother he shrugged his shoulders. “It isn’t time yet. Maybe soon just not now.” He knew, in his heart, that no matter what they said, his sister wouldn’t believe.
“Mother. I have a place where you can stay.” He said while he took her arm in his. There was many cabins throughout the ground of the castle. They were all secluded away and deep in the forest. He would let her stay in the one he was at. He chose not to stay in the castle, like Constantine.
As they moved down the path, a soft smile appeared on Kalena’s lips as she watched the fireflies. “Remember when Thomas used to catch the fireflies. He loved giving them to me.” Her voice was gentle as she thought of her late son. “He said they shined just like your heart.” Alastair hadn’t spoke of his brother in a long time.
“I know you hold regret about Thomas. You loved the woman he did, but she chose him…” His mother trailed off when he stopped in his tracks. “She loved us both…. If she didn’t think I was dead. We would’ve been the ones married and Kat would be my daughter. Just like Wilhelm is.” He didn’t want to tell anyone this, but he needed to. “What!” His mother gasped as she took her arm away and turn toward him. “Wilhelm is yours?!” She was shocked, she never thought Katherine would turn from Thomas. “Yes..” His eyes trailed away toward the stars. “He is mine mother. Kat is Thomas’. I….I wish I didn’t leave for the war. I should of stayed and married Katherine and not…. And not let Thomas take her heart.” He hadn’t felt this much emotion in a long time.
“My boy…” A tear came to her eye that he was too scared to shed. “Alastair… Don’t think of the wrongs in your past but change the future. It is time to tell Kat and Will who you really are. Who you were to their mother.” Cupping his cheek with her hand, she rubbed her thumb on his scruff. “Too much time has past for them to still be in the dark.”
With that, Alastair and Kalena continued on their way. When they reached the small cabin, the mother sighed. “I guess this will do.” She said while sitting down at the small kitchen table. Taking out her fan, she started to fan herself. “Well. I will hide away for awhile. Until the nerves calm.” Alastair set down some tea before his mother. Knowing all too well her love for it. “It might be a long while for that, Mother.”
With a sigh she crossed her legs while she grabbed her tea. “I suppose so…. But we'll make the most of it.”

As the day came to an end, the Silverstein family walked into the dining room. “Dinner is served!” Lumiar slid on the long table toward the family. “Always so dramatic!” Eva said while they all smiled. “Yes, Mademoiselle. Always.” His reply was followed by a wink. Kiyomi smiled at him as she walked over towards her spot at the table. Before she could touch her seat, pale hand grabbed her chair to pull it out for her. “Kiyomi.” His voice was soft but commanding. His tone made her eyes look automatically at him. Their eyes locked for just a moment before Kiyomi made herself look away. The protector of the house bowed his head slightly at the young fox girl and pushed in her chair.
With everyone seated at the table, The Silverstein's started to eat. Their laughter filled the room as the girls joked with each other. Kiyomi, instead, stayed quiet. She wasn’t one to talk much as before. She sat and ate her food, her occasional smile crossed her face. Constantine, the protector, would catch her gaze every so often when she looked across the room at him.
Katerina, the mother wolf, would catch them looking at each other and the smile on her face would disappear. She didn’t know what to think of the two. He was far more older. Could the wolf demon trust a man that she didn’t know with her daughter? Would he hurt her like the man before? The questions ran through Katerina’s mind the whole time at the dinner table. She didn’t even noticed the howling coming from outside, or the arguing. “THIS IS MY HOUSE! I WILL COME IN WHEN I PLEASE!” Yelled a voice just outside the dinning room.
“Kat!” Nikolaus voice had brought Katerina back. She jumped to her feet as the doors of the dining room flew open. Her hand lit on fire as she stared at the very beautiful woman on the other end of the table. “Well. Now. Isn’t this a treat. All my family in one place.” Katerina looked at her Aunt Victoria, who was white as a ghost. Her eyes moved to Alastair who stood from his spot and walked over to the woman. “Mother.” He said softly and kissed her cheek.
Wilhelm was the first to stand, after almost choking on his food. “Alastair. My sweet boy. I have missed you.” The mother brought up her hand to touch his cheek as she spoke to him. “Now.” Turning from him, she walked over to Victoria. This time she laid her hand on her daughter’s shoulder. “I have not heard from you in a very long time, child. Have you seen your father?” Victoria was about to remain silent, but she smirked. Her color came back to her face. “Yes. And he says hello.”
Ignoring her daughter, the woman looked over to the girl’s gathered around the table. Her heels clicking against the marble floor with every step.
Katerina slowly reached for her youngest daughter and put her on her hip. The woman’s eyes soon landed onto the mother wolf. “My sweet girl. Look how much you have grown.” Walking over, she stood before her granddaughter. “You look so much like your father….but you do have a bit of your mother in there.” A smile lined the woman’s lips. “Look at all these grandchildren I have!” Her eyes were bright with happiness as she looked at the uneasy girl’s around the table. “I am so sorry children! I didn’t know you were here or I wouldn’t have yelled…” Clearing her throat, she smiled and turned toward the children. “I am Kalena Genevieve Sofia Silverstein… Your Great Grandmother. But I would prefer something else. Cause that makes me feel old. And I am not that old.”
“Gramamamama.” Guinevere was the first to speak. She reached toward her Grandmother and tried to push away her mother, who didn’t know what to do. The youngest of them all was the one to smile at her Grandmother.
Kalena looked at Katerina for permission, who gave just that. Nodding, the mother wolf handed her daughter over. She didn’t know what to feel in that moment. Happiness? She had gained a new family member after all. Or was she terrified? The wolf demon knew that this would change her life, just like Victoria and Alastair.
“Aren’t you the cutest! And look at your fiery red hair! How beautiful you are… yes. You are..” The almost two year old giggled at the voice that Kalena would make and the silly faces. Hearing her little girl laugh made Katerina ease a bit. “Mother, that is Katerina, Thomas’s daughter. Her partner, Nikolaus. And her children, Guinevere, Kiyomi, Evangeline, Freya, Annette. Thomas’ eldest son, Wilhelm and his daughter Priscilla.” Alastair introduced the children to her while motioning to every one. “There is so many girls in the family! We’ll have to kick the boys out one day and have a girl’s night of pampering!” The girls all cheered with a happy laugh. Besides Kiyomi who just smiled.
“Now, that my introduction is done. I have two more for you to meet.” Giving back to girl to her mother, She walked toward the door. “Girls.” Two fox girl’s entered the room. One was taller than the other. Long blonde hair, and blue eyes. The other’s hair was the same, but short. They both wore black dresses. Both seemed a bit sad. “These girls are your very distant– cousins. They’re mother have passed, so I agreed to let them stay if they become maids.” The grandmother said.
The mother wolf eyes narrowed. “They will not.” This comment made the room go quiet. “They just lost their mother, and you took them from the only place they have ever known. They will not be the maids of this house.”
Victoria smirked, but also feared for her niece. “Excuse me.”Turning, the grandmother looked at Katerina. “I took them in because they needed a home. I could’ve left them to live on the streets.”
“You took them in through the kindness of your heart. Please. They are the bastards of the man you loath. What is the alternative motive here, Mother?” Victoria was the next to speak.
“Victoria. You will not speak to me in this manner. Do you hear me?” Kalena turned to her daughter, her eyes flashing red. This made Victoria turn her eyes away and look at her brother. Alastair held up his hands. “Enough.”
Taking a deep breath, Kalena turned back towards Katerina. “We don’t mind. Please. We are so thankful for Mrs. Silverstein for taking us in. We want to repay this kindness.” The eldest of the two spoke in that moment before Kalena had a chance to speak.
This was when Katerina gave her daughter to Nikolaus and walked over to the two girls. “Are you sure this is what you want?” She asked gently. Her hand came up to touch the eldest chin to have her look her in the eyes. “Yes, ma’am.” This answer made Katerina sigh. “Alright. But I will not have you work sunup to sundown. You work till before dinner…because you will have dinner with us every night.” A smile graced her lips. “You will start tomorrow after breakfast…Now, Emrick will show you to your rooms.”
After they left, Katerina turned to the woman whose arms were crossed.
“You give orders to MY servants? This is my home.” Kalena’s arm’s dropped as she took a few steps towards Katerina.
“You lost this home… and your family, the day you sentence her husband to death.” Her eyes narrowed when she pointed at her Aunt.
“A heart like yours does not belong here. Get the hell out before I have you thrown out.” Turning around, Katerina exited the room.
