He looked at her with mock offense. ”They cheated! Bum-rushed me, they did!” “We beat you fair and square, Kieran!” ”I’ll show you fair and square!” Kieran gave a scary face as he went in for a tickle attack. The kids shrieked and darted away, leaving the noble chuckling as he walked over to Teu, all while watching their retreating backs. ”That ought to keep em for awhile. They’re a good bunch. Though, sword play is not what Jayla wanted. Kind of hard, being the only girl, isn’t it?” He turned his attention to Teu, to see the sun create the natural glow on her hair. ’Mother Angela, let this truly not be a dream.’

With a smile, he leaned in, tilting her chin up with just a finger and thumb, and stole a kiss. ”I’m going to go get cleaned up in the room. If you need anything, the villagers would be more than happy to assist. All you need to do is ask.” Kieran grabbed his shirt and walked off. It was still difficult, but easier since he wallowed in the dirt with the kids, and realized how long it had been since he actually had a bath. Funny how things as simple as bathing were forgotten in the heat of things.

Despite he attempted to remain calm, she could see his pleasure at the mention of closing the shop. She was overly relieved that he was wanting her to go along with him. At least it appeared that he was not ashamed of her. Teu did not inherently believe that Kieran would ever be ashamed of her, but the elf did understand the politics and titles. They were important. If his father put as much faith in the noble son as Teu would expect…it was possible he could be the next in line for the title. The idea of meeting his parents was daunting though exciting at the same time.

There was little she could to as he gently tucked her brunette hair behind her ear. His touch was electrifying, but now she was getting better at holding herself at bay. If there had been time, she would have bolted the door shut in order to manage their urges. Subconsciously she tilted her cheek into his hand as he traced the lines of her face. ”I am glad to hear that,” was all she could respond. A short step was made to close the gap between them, but Kieran had was able to break off in a desperate move just like she was doing. They were now just barely hanging on by a thread. ”Try to not get beaten up too badly by the children. They look fairly tough. You are still injured.” She blushed at the title of Lady. When they eventually did get married, she would have a title by marriage through him. The concept felt like a fairy tale.

Her eyes watched intensely as he walked to the door. If he had kissed her then she would not have let him leave. It was good news to know that there was no desperation for medical treatment in the town. With the lack of need immediately helped her relax as her healer instincts had been agitated. Now, this gave her the time to get the proper herbs to the village. She froze when he mentioned a room offered to the pair. Her muscles seized up and she could only nod stiffly. The build up from their touches would not hold up against being alone in their own room. Quickly the heat of blush colored her face and pointed ears. She watched him slip out of the room, which led to her leaning up against the shelving unit and slipping down to the floor. Teu hugged her knees to her chest as she calmed herself down. There was no control left, and that night was not going to be able to handle herself.

”Okay. Get up and act like an adult like you supposedly are,” she lectured aloud. Teu took one last heavy breath before pushing off the ground. Dusting pants off, she finished getting an inventory of the medical supplies. Satisfied with the tally the elf moved to the door and opened it to see Kieran being the focus of many children. His shirt was removed to expose his muscles and the stitch work she had done. A light grin was on her face as she watched them attack the noble with their ‘swords.’ Teu circled the group to sit upon a few of the supply boxes that had been brought in to watch the spar match unfold.

The bag slung over her shoulder had been removed and placed on the ground. Next, she managed to remove the bindings that strapped the sheathed sais to her back. Legs tucked beneath crossed while she watched with great amusement. The healer tilted her head to the side to look at Kieran as he lay on the ground with the ‘swords’ at his throat. He had previously claimed to like children, and this was the evidence before her. ”You really do need some practice with sword work,” she teased. ”I thank you, kind knights, for sparing my mate’s life. I would be devastated to need to find a new fiancé so soon.” She had propped her elbow on her knee and then rested chin in the palm of her hand. ”It is good to know that he can be kept in line though.”

By the gods, why did she have to be so damned irresistible? That husky drop of her voice sent shivers of excitement down his spine. To let her go was difficult, but he had somehow managed. All the while, he kept glancing over at her, gauging her reactions to his words. Teu didn’t seem to like it, despite the logic behind it. At the mention of closing shop, his heart did a backflip. If the shop closed, she would have time to join him on his travels home. She could meet the parents, which was still super early in their relationship, but he didn’t care. Kieran was going to keep her as long as he could.

He had to take a calming breath himself to control his reaction to her question. The love struck noble tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, trailing his fingertips along her jaw until his thumb could lightly trace her lips. Why could he not control himself? ”I would enjoy that very much, my dove.” The words were whispered, afraid of his excitement showing over her request. Kieran was so close to losing himself to her right then, and desperately grabbed at any memory to retain his self control. ”Sadly, I am promised to a play date. Excuse me to my previous engagements, Lady Teu.” There was a smirk as he excused himself, but he was sincere in the title.

Regretfully, he left without planting another kiss upon her beautiful face. If he had, there would have been no turning back. Before exiting the storage house, Kieran looked back at her. ”Many of the villagers are uninjured, most are healthy. As far as I’ve been able to gather, it was only Rena, Brandon’s mother, who was having difficulties. Everyone else was lucky enough to kick the sickness before supplies depleted. Also, they have offered us a room for the night.” That was the extent of his control. To keep himself from closing the distance between them, the door was opened and he slipped out.

Of course, his gaze lingered on the door before he went to seek out the children. If he was going to have any self control in the future, they were going to need to tame their impulses and urges. Kieran worried about how she would react if Teu found out about his inexperience. Maybe she already knew from his confession last night, about the lack of dates, courtships, and mates.

By the time Teu found Kieran, he was in the midst of a spar with one of the boys. Everyone had long sticks, and formed a ring around the pair. The noble let out an audible, over exaggerated “oof” as his opponent jabbed, poking the uninjured side. He had long since removed the shirt, and the children were taking care of the stitched wound. At the sign of weakness, two more charged forward with mighty battle cries, assisting their friend to take down the powerful knight. Kieran tried taking steps back, but was “overwhelmed” as he stage fell. All three boys held their stick swords at his throat. “Surrender now, and we may spare your life!” ”I yield,” he chuckled as the boys helped him up.

”It is very possible you are speaking from a rather biased position right now,” she responded with a blush on her cheeks. Teu had worked rather hard to ensure that Kieran would survive his encounter with the knife in his abdomen. Desperation had become a factor and at the time she had no idea that her soul was calling out to him. Teu smiled again while walking away from her mate. There was work to be done, and yet she didn’t want to part from his side. Healing had to take precedence. It didn’t matter that she wanted to stay beside Kieran at all times along with her children.

She was able to heal the mother with no trouble as she had not resistance to magical support. Teu was grateful for that. As she left the home, her green eyes softened at the sight of the son crouched next to the bed. He looked as if tears were going to flow despite his attempts at holding them back. There was no need to linger and interrupt the mother and son reconnecting. They would have many years together if she remained out of harm’s way. Teu closed the door behind her and reached for her steed’s reins. The horse chuffed at her while nibbling at her hand. The healer couldn’t help but laugh and give the equine a good scratch along the nose. ”You have done such a wonderful job, my dear. You will get extra oat rations when we return home. A nice rub down as well. How does that sound?” Teu hugged the horse’s neck while he gave a nice paw at the ground to indicate his approval of the plan.

”Now we must check on the store house!” Even though the reins were in her hands, she did not need to pull on them to get her horse to follow. Once the store house was reached she tied up the leads to one of the posts outside. The inventory was extremely lacking. Her head shook subconsciously at the state of their stock. It took everything in her to hold back the anger towards the raiders for making these people suffer the way that they were. Her hand lightly rested on one of the shelves that should have held their fever reducers. There was nothing there. She began to think of the best way to get the town back on its feet. Her own stores were running slightly low due to the amount of customers that were coming in lately. If she could take the time to restock, then she could get them set up with what they need and teach someone in town how to make everything.

A calming breath was inhaled and released. She barely heard the door open behind her. The feel of someone wrapping their arms about her body made her go stiff until she could smell Kieran. Instantly her body relaxed and leaned back into him. His warmth surrounding her made the healer want to hold him tighter. She dared not turn around knowing that if she did there would be no holding herself back this time. The heat from his breath as he kissed her neck sent a shiver down her spine. ”Just the way I like it,” she responded with a slight husk to her voice. Lazily shut as she continued to work on her self-control.

Despite not wanting him to part from her, it was a relief. Teu had little left of her mental capacity. She went about her inventory checks and every once and a while her gaze flickered over to Kieran as he worked. There was a distance between them now as they put their minds to work. Teu lowered her hands that had been rummaging through a box as Kieran spoke of his travel plans. Her hand tightened their grip upon the box edges as she spoke of having to leave. It made complete sense, but her heart could not quite accept it.

”Well, I was actually thinking about closing the shop for a short time. I have made plenty of profits for the time being. Restocking has been an issue; demand has been out running my ability to supply. I wanted to get some time to get supplies put together for here.” Teu released her hold on the half full box and leaned back against the shelves. Her eyes shifted from the floor to Kieran as she did not want to demand that she go along with. What if he didn’t want her to meet his family? It was rather new their relationship. They were nobles, and she was not. Would they accept someone not of a noble bloodline? Her family back in Daeluin had been prestigious. Anyone would have been honored to have her added, but in Revaliir she was no one.

”What if the children and I came along with? They could see more, and get a chance to spend time together with all four of us. See how that goes?” Her voice had a hint of hesitation. She was nervous to ask such a large request. Not only that, she dared not send Kieran alone back to his home. His brother was violent and that was the reason he had been driven away in the first place.

”Fairly good? I’d say you’re more than fairly good,” he laughed gently. With the extent that he was at before he got to her place, combined with his resistance to magic, it was a miracle he was still alive. It was also something he did not plan on telling his mother, as she would demand his return home. Kieran smiled at her as she walked off, his heart swelling with pure joy. Now was not the time to ponder such feelings, however, as the captain of the soldiers came up to him. After sharing the news with the captain, the noble was faced with a piece of information he had not be considering.

The soldiers that had been sent still report to Mamlak. If Kieran’s father wanted to pay for their services, then he would have to negotiate the deal with the governing body of the city, not the soldiers themselves. Immediate plans were already beginning to form in Kieran’s mind about who to see, what to arrange, and when to do it by. It would mean leaving his mate’s side for a few days, but it was about time to visit his parents anyway, before mother starts to nag at him. Of course, he could invite her, however, would that put a dent on the store and her business?

He went to the locate the store house shortly after the long conversation. If he was going to get his father to send a bunch of supplies and soldiers, he would need an accurate inventory. Teu had a similar thought, as that was exactly where he had found her. Unable to help himself, the noble wrapped his arms around her from behind, placing a gentle kiss on the back her neck. ”Alone for now. Fancy that.” Kieran whispered into her skin, not wanting to admit the slight awkwardness about holding her with her sais on her back, at least from this angle.

Even though he made the suggestion, he had no intention of doing anything in a store house. Planting one more kiss, Kieran reluctantly released the healer and went about his own inventory checks. ”Teu, after we get back to Mamlak, I need to take a ship down to Adeluna, visit my parents. It’s easier to negotiate in person that it is through letters. I also won’t object to you accompanying me, though I know you have the kids and shop to tend to.” He began to explain to her what the soldier had said to him about the offer, and his own reasonings about visiting home once more.

Skip the middleman and send both aid and men would save on a lot of money. If his father agreed, Kieran could supervise everything and come home quickly. This also provided him a chance to talk with his mother about the questions and magical developments face to face. When he looked at her, he had this conflicted look in his eyes. Kieran did not ask her to be his mate only to abandon her shortly after, no matter the small length of time. He wanted time with her, alone. There was also time with her children, getting to know them as well. So much to do, with so little time, and priorities seemed mixed.

The blackness that had consumed Teu’s eyes soon faded to allow her emerald color to resurface. Using shadow magic had become natural to her since her position, but it had a tendency to consume the user as well. Short calming breathes were drawn in and then released. Her focus to get to Kieran’s side made her come back to the reality of where she was. Quickly her stance changed to dash to her love’s side. Exhaustion was written all over his face, but after checking him she could finally relax. Teu began to truly breathe easier as their heads rested against the other. Together they rose from the ground to find a place to sleep next to the fire. Kieran fell into sleep quickly after using his magic for the first time. She could empathize with his fatigue. Before she would allow herself to sleep, Teu checked him over to double check that he actually was unharmed. Fingers pulled at his shirt to expose the stitched up wound from earlier that morning. Her work had held up well. There was little redness that now surrounded the line where a light scar would eventually form. Medications were doing their job well. Once she was satisfied and new spell work laid out, Teu curled against Kieran to get some rest.

Their morning was quiet as the camp was broken down. Animals had taken away a couple of the raiders to have as their meal. Teu was un-phased by the death. In fact, she had been quite pleased with the swiftness their deaths had been brought to them. As she rolled up one of the blankets, Teu noticed Kieran attempting to avoid seeing the man he had frozen to death. Her lip curled up slightly in a half smile in hopes to bring up his spirits. She couldn’t be certain that this wasn’t his first killing. There was no chance that she would attempt to speak on the topic then. Instead, the pair mounted the horse to head over to Waldon.

Teu held on to Kieran as he sat in the front again. In the distance she saw a village beginning to appear. They neared it and her mate announced their arrival. Before any response could be given, Teu heard children erupt in excitement. The horse remained in place despite the cheers. There were quite a few children that were vying for the man’s attention and it was a young girl, Jayla that had won his main focus. The healer hung back and held onto the horse’s reins as Kieran appeared to fall into his element with the kids. She lightly pet the equine’s neck while watching the event unfold before her all with a smile on her face. He truly did adore children.

Hearing about a woman not doing well perked up Teu’s ears. She made no motion to move as there were still children surrounding the large horse. Upon the request made she nodded with a reassuring smile on her features towards the teenager. ”Don’t worry, Brandon. I am fairly good at what I do. I am sure I can help her.” Kieran placed a gentle kiss upon her forehead, which Teu could not stop from gripping his arm in return. ”Do what you need to. I will go tend to your cousin’s friend. That is news that is beyond what was hoped for. I will go see about healing and then check the medical supplies” She squeezed his arm one more time before walking the horse after Brandon towards one of the homes. ”You are doing a great job, my heart,” she said over her shoulder with a proud grin.

The home that Teu was guided to was a modest one, but obviously had not been tended to as well since the mother was ill. Nose twitched as she smelled the illness in the air. The healer immediately pulled back her long hair into a loose bun on her head. Weapons were removed from her back to allow for easier movement. She had slung her medical bag over her shoulder that contained all the basics for her patient. ”Brandon, do not worry. This looks fairly common in my experience. We shall have her up and moving soon and scolding for not doing your chores.” She gave an amused wink to the boy before kneeling next to the sick woman in bed. ”I am a healer here with Kieran. You will be well shortly. Remain still as I work please.” Teu carefully ran her hand over the woman’s sweat beaded forehead and then through her hair as a mother would her own child. Hands lingered above the woman’s chest. A chill began to emanate from her hands to let the frost creep up her arms. Foreign words uttered beneath her breath as the spell was cast to eradicate the illness away. ”Brandon. She will still need rest, but give her hearty foods and plenty of clean water. Also, put these herbs in her drink three times a day to fortify her body. She will make a full recovery in three days time.”

The healer stood up from her kneel and put her gear back on. She looked at the child as he looked rather shocked at how quickly a devastating situation had been fixed. Teu couldn’t hold back a small laugh. ”I told you I was good. Take good care of her.” The bag of herbs were handed over to the child as he ran to his mother’s side. With that, Teu left the home and pulled on her horse’s reins towards the store house. It felt good to get into the field again to see the needy.

Inside the store house her heart sank quickly. There were little to no medicinal supplies left. The food looked low even with what had been brought in by the soldiers she had sent prior. Teu moved over to one of the shelves and began to take inventory of what they did have.

Magic… he had used magic. While he was shocked, Kieran was also having difficulties keeping his eyes open. He could hear her being still, the others laying in wait somewhere, until their screams filled the night air. Whatever she had done, it was not with her ice, for she stood absolutely motionless. Heavy eyes drooped closed with relief. Five were noted, five were killed, and her footsteps approached him worriedly. As her hands found his shoulders, Kieran lifted his own to hold hers. ”I'm fine,” he managed to mumble. She was peppering his face with kisses until he caught her face in his hands, pressing his forehead to hers. ”Rest, my gem.” They moved closer to the fire, and Kieran fell asleep instantly, with a Teu tucked neatly in his arms.

Morning had come, and they had a small breakfast before getting back on the horse. At some point, the icicle of a man had melted and collapsed, and Kieran tried not to pay them any attention. As they rode, the events of last night's scuffle kept playing. From his revenge to his surprising use of magic. Mother must have been waiting for this moment, but lacked the proper situation to unlock it. Did she want it unlocked, or did she fear it? He had no way of knowing, yet he was feeling somewhat sick at the thought of killing those two. They were his first kills, and he understood that it was a kill or be killed situation, but it didn't change the fact that they no longer breathed.

Tucking the thoughts away, Kieran smiled back at Teu. ”Welcome to Waldon.” Just as the words escaped his mouth, children started screaming “Kieran is back!” Cheers erupted as they swarmed the horse. They gave him enough space to dismount and assist Teu off the horse, yet this time, his hands did not linger. Instead, a girl stole it. “Will you play with us?” ”Depends. Did you get the repairs done to your father’s stable?” She nodded enthusiastically. “I held the nails for Papa!” Kieran lifted her, allowing her to sit in the crook of his arm, and tickled her briefly. Peals of laughter mixed with a cacophony of children scrambling for his attention.

Toward the back of the group was a teenaged boy, about the age of fourteen, who hung his head a bit. ”Bandon, how’s your mother?” But the boy shook his head. “Not good, sir. We fear… It won’t be long now.” Before Kieran could turn to Teu, one of the older women came walking up. “Message came for you, Kieran. Arrived just this morning.” A frown settled over his features as he took the scroll from her, balancing the child between arm and chest, eyes quickly scanning over the elegant penmanship. ”Hey, Jayla, I promise to play later. Let me take care of some grown up things first, okay?” The children groaned as he put Jalya down, but did not make a fuss as they dispersed with the exception of Brandon.

”First things first, are the guards from the city still here?” The woman nodded. ”I need to speak to the highest ranking officer.” She turned and walked away while Kieran turned to Teu. ”Teu, Brandon’s mother is my cousin’s best friend. Would you please tend to her first? She is the whole reason I was here in Waldon in the first place.” Brandon looked hopefully up at the healer. “I can take you to the house, ma’am.” The noble cupped her cheek with a loving smile, kissed her forehead. ”My father has promised to provide payment for armed escorts to and from Mamlak. If they don’t accept, then he will send the escort from our personal staff.” Kieran was obviously pleased with this development.

Her silence knowingly caused him distress. She knew that it caused him anxiety, and yet she needed that time to get her thoughts in order to answer correctly. Teu wanted him. The need was not only primal, but emotional as he had delved into her already. It was clear to her now that she was deeply in love with the man that sat in front of her. He was kind and gods was he handsome. The elf knew that it was not her reason for wanting to be with him. There was much to consider when it came to a decision that was to be made at that time. All she knew was that her inner desire told her to pick him.

The answer had been the right one as he encircled his arms about her form to pull her tight against him. Sheer joy felt infectious between them. She continued to smile as they kissed at first. Though as her heat rose, she couldn’t hold back from his touch. A shiver trailed down her spine at the feel of his hand along it. How long had it been since someone had touched her? There had not been a lack of suitors, but only Kieran had ever pulled at her to want to be handled in such a way. She nipped at his lip just as her backside was gripped. Gods, she pleaded inwardly. Everywhere he touched felt like a fire was ignited. Ending what they had just started took all of her self-control.

Teu smiled down at him slyly as he attempted to chase her lips. Hands were slowly dragged through his hair and fingers grazed his cheeks as she stood up to look out into the darkness. Kieran kept a hold upon her arm as if to reassure her, but himself as well. “I could tell,” she replied with a half mocking laugh. Teu tapped his side gently to remind him of where she had stitched him up earlier that day. Before he could leave, she stood on her tip toes to kiss his nose lovingly. “Don’t stress about me, dearling. I am pretty strong despite my looks.”

They went about the camp as if they had no inclination that raiders were about to make their way into their space. Teu knelt down beside the fire and tended to it, though her eyes had shifted to a golden hue as her night sight increased exponentially. A man came quickly to strike at Kieran and thankfully he was ready for the encounter. She had no time to aid her mate as another came from the darkness with twin daggers poised in hand. The man was within the light of their fire to show that he was a man with some age upon him. Experience had been learned the hard way for him as the scars on his skin gave evidence.

He was fast. In two steps he had closed the distance between Teu and himself by half. It was unfortunate that she was faster. While still kneeling her arm swung upward from ground to the air in an arch motion. Ice spiked out in a wall fashion to lodge solidly into his breast plate and through his now gnarled features. There had been no time for him to cry out in pain for the deed had been done before he had been aware of his death.

Feet pushed off the ground quickly move away from the light of the fire. Golden eyes glanced over to see that Kieran’s falchion had struck true on his opponent. It was in that moment that she had not taken notice of an archer out of range that took his aim. Teu flinched at the sound of her mate’s scream. Turning she saw ice had swallowed the man that would have taken an attempt on her life. The diowolf-elf hybrid quickly traced the origin back to Kieran with wide eyes. He did have magic capabilities. Exhaustion swiftly overcame his body sending him to his knees.

There were two raiders left, and it was ill-fated for them. For Teu to see her love in a state once more, well she was not in control of her emotions. The two lingered in the darkness which should have offered them safety; it did not. The healer stood in the firelight to allow her shadow to grow and delve into the dark. Screams pierced the air as the last two were stabbed through their hearts by the element they had hoped with protect them. Once she knew for sure their last breathes had been drawn, Teu moved to Kieran holding his shoulders. “Are you all right?” Immediately she began to check his body over for injuries and found none. It was merely an exhaustion matter from the usage of magic once completely locked away. “You did well, my dear. Welcome to the realm of the mystic. Your ice use was impressive.” She laughed softly while placing several concerned kisses upon his face.

Kieran waited, holding his gaze steady as she searched his face. There was a lot of exploring, and getting to know one another to be done, that was guaranteed. He had inexplicable faith in what they could become together. As Teu stood, it was his turn to search her face, trying to deduce her thoughts. His own breath caught in his throat as he waited, the blank expression and deafening silence stretching through eternity. Finally, she began to move, her body leaning forward as she cupped his face. Still, he dared not breathe, unsure what to expect yet hoping this was a foretelling of a favorable answer.

Teu’s smile broke across her lovely face, those words sent his soul soaring. His arms wrapped around her, giving her kiss everything she gave in return. She blurred the lines between them, pressing herself close against him as she sat upon him. Both of them were surrendering their control, their grips at each other becoming more claiming and demanding than the last. Kieran's hand slid down her back, gripped her ass before sliding to her thigh. This woman was his mate, the primal need to claim her as such running rampant. Her moan filled his ears, but did not sound pleased, and she pulled away, Kieran trying to chase her lips. He couldn't stand her being disappointed, he'd do better!

However, the uninvited guests were brought to his attention. Frustrated at the intrusion, Kieran allowed her to stand, standing as well. A single hand gripped her arm from behind, soft and reassuring. ”You be careful. I am no healer.” If she had her way, he would probably be as trained as her children. It was hard to turn away from her, with their yearning to explore each other having been so close to reality. Turn away he did, approaching the horse. Let them believe he was going to retrieve something, blankets perhaps. Once more, the noble rummaged through the saddle bag, not so deep as to be hard to extract his hand. The approaching danger from off to the side and behind was not unnoticed. Their weapon was poised to strike when Kieran drew the falchion and blocked the strike from their sword.

From the flicker of the campfire, the noble realized that this was the one who stabbed him. ”I must thank you.” The man gave him a quizzical look as he swung at him again, which was parried. ”That knife sent me to find my mate.” Teu’s falchion countered the next attack, finding its mark in the thief’s belly. ”May Dalanesca have mercy on your soul.” Kieran muttered with disdain as he turned toward Teu. Did she notice that archer, his arrow glinting faintly with their fire?

With an unintelligible scream, Kieran reached out in a panic. An arrow was flying through the air, straight at her. As he reached, magic flared, sending an icy attack at both arrow and archer. His hand fell limply to his side as the danger fell as a rock out of the sky, frozen in a thick layer of ice. The archer did not survive much better, as the entire front of his body was now coated similarly. By the time it melted enough for him to breathe or move, the archer would perish from lack of oxygen. Kieran fell to his knees, the falchion clattering to the ground, suddenly greatly fatigued.

Whatever his heritage was it did not matter to Teu. Obviously it was not an issue for him with the sense of honor that he exhibited. He cared for the well fair of others, and that had led him to her doorstep. The elf-diowolf hybrid could only hope that there would be answers for him that he was actually looking for. She had not meant to open up a door that had long been closed or never had been opened. If it was something he wanted to deal with then she would be by his side. Learning of oneself was never an easy path.

His statement took Teu by extreme surprise. Were his words of genuine feelings? He did not know much about her, or even the sides she had kept hidden even from herself. How could he want to declare that he wanted her to be his mate? Was it possible that this was just an extension of gratitude that played itself out as illusionary love? Teu’s heart sank as she thought about it and this time could not push it away. There was a question lingering in the air between them that could not be ignored. Hope still was lit in her chest for the answer that could be given from Kieran.

The response given at first was what she would classify as mouthy. Emerald gaze narrowed in an unamused fashion even though he wanted to laugh at his words. It took everything in her not to swat at him again. All she could do was roll her eyes at him just before she was able to hold his gaze. Again she felt herself freeze as he looked at her straight on without a flinch in his gaze. Kieran stated that he was completely truthful with his feelings. That he was not impulsive in nature. That his actions at the moment were completely what he wanted; she was what he wanted. Teu searched his face for any sign insincerity. There was none to be found.

Her breath caught in her chest as he addressed her concerns of the children. This time she could not hold back from biting her lower lip as she considered all that was said. Silence continued to persist after he asked the question again. Finally, Teu stood up from her seat beside him in order to face him squarely. For a moment her expression was blank while looking down at Kieran as he sat there waiting for her words. Leaning down slightly, her hands came to gently cup his face on either side. Her thumb stroked his cheek and a smile began to grow on her face. “I would be love to be your mate, Kieran Rothslin.” She moved forward in order to place a kiss upon his lips. Hands lifted to run through his hair as she moved closer until she sat upon his lap. No space was between them while she held him close to her chest.

Control was a difficult thing to maintain as her kiss deepened with the man that she would now call her mate. At that moment she wanted to make the term literal instead of in title. Teu’s breath had turned hotter as she pulled at him as if that would make it possible for them to be closer. She wanted him more than anything else. It was unfortunate for the newly titled couple that the spell that had been sent out prior pulled at the back of her mind. Teu moaned against Kieran’s lips as she took a deep breath to pull away. One of these times she was not going to be able to pull away from his lips.

“Something is coming,” she breathed against his lips. Teu opened her eyes to look at him before standing up. She was armored for a reason. Rarely did she tap into her diowolf side, but now she could smell the sweat of men lurking in the darkness. At that moment she hated them for interrupting instead of the deaths they had taken part in. There were only five from the gentle footsteps that were placed upon the ground. She had to give them credit for trying to sneak up on the couple. It was unfortunate that they had no chance. “Five are in coming. I am certain they are attempting to bring anything in for the main faction that would be around town. You take it easy with that injury.”

Teu took a few calming breathes as her excited state had to be muted for the time.

The more they commented on the saying, the more it made sense. His mother did hide her heritage, her family. It was entirely possible that he was a dragon, or at least dragon kin. With his appearance, it was hard to believe he was anywhere near a quarter dragon. Still, Teu thought he was handsome, and that was more than enough. Now she relaxed in his hold, everything going peaceful until he made that request. Kieran could feel her stiffen slightly under his arms, knowing that he had completely taken her, and himself, by surprise. For a long moment, silence stretched as she gathered her composure. ”You heard me.”

She pulled back once more, staring into his eyes. The noble stared back calmly. ”I have never been more serious. Contrary to what the day has suggested, I am not an impulsive person, Teu. I don't like talking about myself, and I would rather work until exhaustion sets. But know this: no woman has ever been asked to a date, for a courtship, and until tonight, no one has ever been asked to be my mate..” He paused for a moment, letting the first half sink in before continuing. ”This is abig leap for you, as it is for me. You are a mother, and while that would drive away some men, I know the implications. It isn't just you I have to prove myself to, it's the kids as well. I understand, and will do whatever it takes to make you mine. So I'm going to ask again. Be my mate, Teu.”

Thinking about all of what had transpired in the past brought up old pains, but she merely squeezed his arm a little to steady herself. It did not take much to bring her thoughts back to the present with the scent of Kieran closely sitting next to her. His presences had a calming effect upon the elf that she could not deny. The past was the past. She needed to move forward with her life. “Thank you, Kieran. I appreciate the sentiment.” Teu was certain that the information she spoke of had been confusing. It spoke highly of Kieran not pressing an emotional matter as it were even with that confusion. She smiled softly against his shoulder with her head facing downward.

There was no denying the guilt when the question finally left her lips. It was a nerve that she had stepped on by asking it. It was not just a nerve, but also a pull on a string of his past. Her expression was one of understanding and love. Teu already began to understand what an effect the question had, but it spoke of their budding relationship that he was actually answering. She had weaved her fingers to interlock with his and squeezed to give reassurance. “Dragon…” Teu furrowed her brows for a split second before chuckling softly. “It would be good to get to know who you are, Kieran. I haven’t known you long, so it is not my place to say. Though if those sayings are of any hint then maybe you are broody dragon!” Teu had little clue if she was truly making a joke or if the potential truth was being spoken. “Well, a rather handsome dragon instead of broody. I have yet to see you brood.”

The elf woman relaxed as her body was pulled in against the noble’s side. Teu rested her head against his chest to listen to his heart beat. His warmth radiated off of him to soothe her. When those words were uttered, her blood felt as if it froze within her veins. There was no telling if it was actually a literal freeze within her. A lump formed in her throat. It took a few attempts of a swallow to make it go away. Teu did not raise her head to make eye contact for a few moments in order to collect her thoughts. Did he really ask what he had?

“What?” That word was the only one she could manage to get out. Finally her head lifted to look at him straight on. “I need you to be completely clear with me right now, Kieran. Look at me straight in the eyes and say what you wish. Remember who I have waiting at home and what your statement would mean for you and them.” Teu attempted to keep her eyes from looking almost to the point of needing him to repeat those words. She was feeling more than eager, though desperate at the same time to understand what this would mean for them.

At his confusion, Teu began what he could tell was a difficult explanation. He had heard rumors of people cropping up from another realm, another world. Until now, he had not met anyone who claimed not to be from Revaliir. This DaeLuin lost the world tree, and crumbled into the void. It was by the grace of a god that she and the children managed to escape, at the cost of everyone else she held dear. Kieran gave her a reassuring squeeze and kissed the top of her head. ”I’m sorry to hear about your family.” The topic was not to be pressed, for he did not wish to subject her to further depression when she was working so hard to move in a positive direction.

Teu presented him a personal question as she pulled back to have a better view of him. The noble shifted as well, facing her while still maintaining contact. ”It’s not a question I typically answer, Teu. But, my father is from a long line of noble humans. Mother is a half elf, however, she keeps any information before she married father locked away. She doesn’t breathe a word of it. Yet, her favorite saying is to not be a dragon. Don’t be an angry dragon, don’t be a broody dragon, a hoarding dragon. Always molding it to suit the situation.” Kieran looked at their hands, allowing his mind to wander, molding all the possibilities together in any string.

”Mother was always hovering, watching, questioning. I think she knows something and refuses to share it until some evidence comes to light to make it necessary.” His eyes slid up her armored body until they caught her gaze. ”I will write to her, as soon as we can. Make inquiries.” It didn’t help that he and his siblings always accepted what she told them, never pressing for information beyond her years with their father. To them, she was a simple half elf, happily in love with her human husband. They knew nothing of their grandparents, now that he thought about it.

With all of his uncertainty and doubts, the only thing he knew for sure was how he felt for Teu. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer. For now, he was content with just holding her, his cheek on her head. ”It calls to you… Be my mate, Teu.” It was crazy how he had just met the woman. Yet, already, he felt the future would be cold without her in it. Kieran’s heart raced as he waited for her reply.

She had not thought about the possibility for Kieran being married off for the advantage of connections. The thought made her nervous even though she knew that she had no right to object to it. They had only just met and there was a land of nobility to think of. Hearing that her mother wouldn’t have the concept of marrying him off come to light, but she was still nervous. Teu hid it the best that she could by keeping a smile on her lips. It was his full laugh that helped relax her nerves. He was full of life and a sense of humor that matched her own. She shook her head while rolling her eyes in response.

The rose was rolled over between her fingers several times before tossing it into the fire. A hiss spread out as steam rose in the air. Her words continued to flow forth without a thought of the timeline or where she had originally grown up. Revaliir had been a transfer that few knew about the refugees that had come to survive. As her head rest upon his shoulder, she could feel his arm pull her closer. Teu could not help herself but snuggle her face into him and then hug him from the side. Looking up at Kieran she could see the genuine confusion. “Oh…” It took her a moment to decide what and how to explain her past. “It may be hard to understand, but I am not from Revaliir.” She tucked in closer to him as if hoping that the conversation would not make him question who she was. “I am from a world called DaeLuin. Our land was falling into the Void; our World Tree died. As our world was being devoured by the darkness, my god that had Chosen me used some of the last of his power to move myself and the children to Revaliir. Many were not as fortunate as we were. My family…they were taken by the Void.” Darkness was not something she feared any longer since her patron had been so kind. “I am grateful for his generosity in the last of his moments.”

Teu pushed aside the sadness of her losses and smiled up at Kieran as she did not want to think of it any longer. When his smile faded and gaze appeared to turn blank while staring into the fire, Teu went quiet to not interrupt him. Lightly she placed her hand upon his leg in an effort to show him support. Her brows furrowed together as she heard him whisper. “Broody dragon?” she repeated softly. He spoke as if there was something else within him. Teu felt that way with her diowolf blood even though she had come to terms with her wolf. “Kieran…it is a personal thing to ask, but what is your lineage?” Teu pulled back slightly to look at him fully, not wanting either of them to avoid the question. He did not know her’s either, but she did not want to hold anything back from the man she was falling for deeper and deeper with.

A chuckle escaped the noble at her words. ”Ironically, that's what Mother's friends always said about me. Though, I don't think they were joking about trying to get her to betroth me to their daughters. Mother wouldn't have it.” Primarily because she knew her son too well. Kieran wouldn't have it. Why tie himself down with fake pleasantries when there was enough work with their people to keep himself busy? When he stole the kiss, the playful slap unleashed a rich, full laugh. Munching on the apple, he listened to her explain about her natural affinities, and how she got them. The rose was gorgeous, shimmering as a diamond in the flickering fire.

The name was unfamiliar, and he frowned slightly, trying to remember the studies of most royal and other noble families. Teu went on to talk about her studies and scholars helping her adjust to the frost. As her head came to rest on his shoulder, his arm went around to hold her close, sharing the warm against the chilling air. When the shadows came, they were frightening. ”Wait, Lord Raktor is the God of Darkness? I think you might be confused. Lord Xunatar is the God of Darkness and Chaos.” But that bright smile was infectious, and Kieran smiled down at her as he reached out to hold her hand. Her question, however, caused the smile to fade as he turned his gaze to the fire, the frown returning to his brow.

”I don't know. We never tried. Nothing stood out against the normality to suggest it, either.” For a long while, he sat in silence, staring into the fire. Unless they were wrong? Men have consistently pointed out his strength, and he had chalked it up to youth. Yet, males his age struggled to keep up. Even now, with Teu sitting next to him, her cheek in his shoulder, there was an odd stirring underlying everything. As a great snake shifting in his dark cavern. Kieran could only imagine his mother standing over him, with her favorite saying nagging at him, even in jest to get a smile. ”Don't be such a broody dragon,” he whispered. Did his mother know something and didn't share it? ”Every time we linger, even as innocently as this, something reacts. Like it's in waiting. It's not an emotion, but it doesn't feel physical either. Whatever it is…” He paused. Did it feel warm? Cold? It was not something he could not truly pin down.

Control was being tested on both sides. Teu knew that she had to be the one to pull away if they were to remain in their right minds. Both had a deep seated desire brewing within for the other. There was no denying it, and there was no need to deny the want and that growing need. Unfortunately, their current surroundings and circumstances were not the proper time nor place. She would allow herself one day to delve deep into his blue eyes. Even as she pulled away though, her fingers grazed his chest to linger of his arm before moving completely away from him. It wasn’t much, but that touch of his muscles would allow her to get through the next several minutes at the very least.

The falchion was accepted though not instantly. She smiled up at him when he finally took it, and move away to get things ready for the camp as he became acquainted with the blade. The weapon was not anything special. It would be enough to on the enemies necessary. She smiled over her shoulder as she watched him brandish it. The magic that she put out would do well for them even if it was a rather simple spell that was put in place. “That isn’t too far for us upon horseback. I am glad it’s not too far. We can help get the village in order and then get back to the shop.” Teu wasn’t sure if he would return with her or be in need to go back to his home to update his Lord of the progress. She was careful to keep any look of doubt hidden with her back to him.

Upon finishing the spell work she turned to be handed an apple. Teu hand a second apple placed in her other hand, and she definitely noticed the sly smile upon Kieran’s face. She shook her head at him with one lifted brow. “You are trouble,” she commented as he went about preparing the rest of their camp for the night. A laugh followed the statement. From what she saw there was quite a bit of experience in his setting up camp. Kieran knew exactly what needed to be done. When he finished there was still a sly look upon the man’s face as he made his way over to her to retrieve the apple. Teu narrowed her eyes at him, not trusting what he was about to do. He took his apple back but did not miss the opportunity to steal a quick kiss. “Oh, you!” she mock slapped at him.

Still laughing, she moved over to a nearby log to sit and eat her apple for the evening meal. It was simple and satisfying. “My abilities? Well…they are sort of mixed. Most of them are of the healing capacity. The rest I have for offensive use.” Green eyes followed the treks that had been sent out into the shadows. “I have a natural affinity for the elements of ice and shadow. Any other spells I have acquired through study.” Teu held out her hand and formed an ice rose in her hand to display a simple token of her capabilities. “I was born with the ability of ice, but shadow came to me after serving my Lord Raktor.”

She finished the apple and walked over to give the remaining core to their horse that was grazing nearby. “Umm…my abilities? I would say mostly through study. My heritage gives each of us a specific affinity of an element. I didn’t know this before-hand since I was raised by scholars in a library. My father didn’t know I existed until later in life.” Teu pet the horse’s neck lovingly for a few moments before joining Kieran on his log where he sat. “When my powers began to manifest, the scholars helped me study to become a master of the frost instead of be afraid of it.” She leaned to the side to rest her head upon his shoulder while staring into the fire. “It was the darkness that frightened me. I had never had the abilities before. But once I was chosen by the Lord Raktor, God of Darkness, it began to manifest. From there, I had to learn once more how to harness a new power.” She glanced up while still resting her cheek upon his shoulder. “The spell I cast was to create a protective perimeter. No one will be able to sneak up on us, as well as the spell will defend us.” Teu smiled brightly up at Kieran hoping that she answer his questions. “Do you not have the ability of magic?”

As the smoldering gaze met her own intensity, tensions obviously rising, she pressed forward. It was decided at that moment that he would let her make the first move this time around. Was she bold enough? ”Almost perfectly, thank you.” Each moment stretched between them, feeling like an eternity in baited breath. She broke it with a laugh as she turned away. Disappointment washed through him as reason tried to point out the lack of logic in submitting to inner urges. There was a camp to set up, a fire to start, food to consume, and surprise attacks to be weary of. Getting caught with his pants down, literally, was not a good idea in any sense.

Teu handed him her falchion, which Kieran was hesitant for a moment before accepting. He unsheathed it, feeling it experimentally in his hand before swiping the air in a safe direction. The swoosh of the slice was satisfying. ”This is a serviceable weapon. Thank you. I shall return it.” With the weapon safely sheathed once more, the noble watched Teu call on some magic, shadows stretching from her fingers. It was curious, and somewhat foreign to him. ”From morning to just before dusk on foot.”

Sorting through the provisions, he pulled out two apples. ”Eat this,” the first apple was pressed in her hand. ”Be a dear and hold this for me. I’ll light us a fire.” The second apple was placed in her other hand with a sly smile. Within a few minutes, he had the wood gathered, neatly stacked, and lit by the tinderbox that was in his pocket. Many had chosen this spot due to the logs and small boulders in a circular fashion around a lined fire pit. A group of people had taken the liberty of creating a permanent campsite, possibly for a caravan that was parked here for a short while. Stalking up to Teu, he took his apple while stealing a kiss at the same time.

After taking a seat on one of the logs, Kieran looked thoughtfully at Teu. ”So, what exactly is the extent of your abilities. That thing with the shadows, what does it do exactly?” While his family knew of the family resistance, none of his siblings have ever attempted magic. At least, not to Kieran’s knowledge. With the way her frost was reacting to her emotions, there was something deeper than just what he felt upon his skin. It was as if a part of him had reached out to touch her magic. ”Hey Teu? How does one learn if they have magical abilities, such as your own?”

Teu was starting to understand the different gazes that Kieran was giving her. And even though she understood them, it did not mean she could control her reactions any better. There was an extremely attractive man that sat upon her bed without a shirt upon his torso. Breath caught in her chest as the heat in her belly rose with just his flirtatious gaze. She knew there needed to be a distance between them if Teu was to maintain a cool head. Her lower lip was going to bleed if she bit it any more than she already had been. His voice was sultry as she heard him respond while she left the room. ‘Cool head…cool head. You just met the man,’ she reminded herself inwardly.

While waiting in the shop for Kieran to join her, she watched her children proudly. They made no fuss about going with even though it was obvious that they wished dearly to join. Teu let her hand linger upon Dae’s head longer as she reassured him silently. He was going faster than those of normal lineage. Alairia seemed to be as well. Soon there would be no holding them back from such excursions since they would be strong enough to hold their own. For the moment, Teu wanted to keep them in their childhoods as long as she possibly could. They had seen enough death already.

Dae glanced up from his project of bagging up some of the newer herbs and managed a smile for his mother. He desperately wanted to join but did not want to cause her more heartache. Instead he would do as instructed and run the store with Syn. Teu turned to Syn and finished giving rather specific instructions on the pricing of a few specific items. Kieran entered the room and before the pair left he spoke to Alairia. The mother smiled warmly as the little blonde girl grabbed his hand and squeezed. “Be safe please.”

On the road, she held on to Kieran’s waist as she rode behind him. Teu allowed herself occasionally to rest her cheek against his back to feel his warmth and hear the beat of his heart. It was a comforting sound to indicate his health was strong. As night began to darken the sky it was good call to make camp for the night. She peaked out from behind Kieran to see the burned remains of the wagons and unfortunately so people. Her brows furrowed at the needless deaths.

Sliding off of the horse’s back with the help of her new companion, she felt as his hands remain around her hips even as she stood on the ground. Breath quickened slightly as the distance between them was recognized. Even though her hear rate had increased there was no movement to pull away from his grasp. “I didn’t know that. Thank you for letting me know.” Teu did something completely out of character for her: she closed the gap and pressed up against him. Her gaze was just as intense as his. “The shirt fits you well,” she commented. Her hands pressed against his chest. Moments passed, and with a sudden laugh she turned away to pull some rations out for them to eat.

How desperately she wanted to give in to her inner urges with Kieran, but if she did then they could possibly be taken by surprise from bandits that had attacked him before. Teu pulled at the belt around her waist that held her sheathed sword. “Take this,” she said while handing it over. The sais on her back would be sufficient enough for her to fight. Once that was taken, the healer kneeled on the ground to place her hand upon the earth. Shadows weaved out of her fingers in all directions to rest in the earth in a way of a protective trap. “We will have warning if anything comes close to us tonight.” She stood up and walked over to Kieran. “How far is the village from here?” Her conversation needed to be kept generic if she were to keep herself from giving in to deeper desires.

Kieran honestly did not know if he would ever get over her blushing at the smallest of actions. The strawberry stain on her cheeks was quite attractive. As he finished speaking into her knuckles, Kieran planted a kiss there, all while keeping his flirtatious gaze. ”Wouldn't dream of it.” She gave him a list of orders, his eyes following her as she got off the bed. How easy would it be to catch her, tuck her against him as he guided her to the bed, laying above her? For a moment, the noble allowed the scene to play out in his mind as he smirked knowingly at the healer. ”Yes ma’am. You are the doc.”

Teu left, and Kieran hurriedly finished the last few bites. When that was gone, the shirt was pulled on. It was almost a perfect fit. Before leaving the room, Kieran quickly made the bed. While it was not perfect, it was the best he could do without agitating his stitches. No doubt she would be upset, and deny him even attempting on going. They were getting along so well, meshing easily, as two pieces of a puzzle fitting perfectly together. Satisfied that the room was properly tended to, dishes were gathered just before he left the room. Kieran found where the kitchen, and set the plate and cup down on the counter.

He made his way to the shop, where he paused with genuine surprise. There was Alairia and Dae, working diligently on their tasks. However, there was also something he could only assume was a sphinx chatting with Teu. Before leaving with the woman, Kieran gently tugged Alairia’s hair. ”Thank you, Alairia. You are the best nurse I ever had.”

She sat behind him upon the horse. In all honesty, he felt a tad underdressed compared to her. Teu was armored, and armed with several weapons. It reminded him how unprepared he was this time around, and how he was easily overpowered by those men. ”You know, Teu, I usually travel with caravans and groups from town to town. Guess I grew complacent.” Kieran spotted the ashen remains of his previous campsite. ”We’ll camp here for the night.”

He helped her dismount, but could not bring himself to move his hands off her hips. Kieran was standing merely inches from her once more, staring into those beautiful green eyes. ”Do you know how incredibly alluring you are in that armor?”

Thankfully Kieran laughed at her ridiculous line of thought. Like a child she stuck her tongue out at him before laughing at herself. At least he seemed to understand what she was really trying to say. There was not a way to say how she felt any other way. After transferring to DaeLuin under the last of Lord Raktor’s power it had been a constant struggle to create a life for her and the children. Time had halted for them almost as they came to terms with their new home and existence. They had not been sent without assets, though. It had been enough to get a start on their new life. Never had Teu thought that after all the loss that she had to endure that there would be a new man in her life. These gods knew nothing of her existence, and yet she felt blessed.

Conversation about the children and who they were was always going to come up. From what the mother could tell, Kieran was a man that liked children. He already had won over Alairia. Teu knew that Dae would be a little more difficult since the child tended to trust no one. As the boy grew older it was easy to see the influence that Raktor’s darkness had had upon the boy while he grew within Teu. It made her worry for what the future would hold for him.

Kieran made no comments about Dae’s lineage, which she could have interpreted in a few ways. Her eyes caught sight of the man’s hands balling into fists. Inwardly that helped her relax as it appeared that he was not judging. Lightly she touched his right fist and smiled up at him to encourage him to relax. “It was a while ago, and I have healed since then. Besides, the man and his group got their comeuppance. They suffered greatly,” she said with a sly smile. It still gave her a sense of delight to remember the corpses that were left to lie about her mansion after a lovely hunt for them at her party. The citizens of her old world had been more than happy to help bring them to a painful justice. “Please, do not worry about it. I did get Dae out of it, and he is a lovely boy that I love dearly.”

What surprised her was the ability to say Dasor’s name without an all-consuming despair washing over her. It would hurt, most likely, for the rest of her life to think of the man that had been her husband. Though there had been many that had not gotten along…or had met their end by his hand. To Teu he had been a gentle soul that brought her such joy and love. He was gone. She knew that now. Now there was a man that sat mere inches away from her that made her feel loved despite the miniscule time together. The emotions she felt were real. “Thank you, Kieran. They are wonderful, and are a true blessing.”

The heat from his lips made her blush slightly as his words brushed over her knuckles. Through her girlish reaction she was able to note him mentioning the trip to Waldon. It was then her healer side kicked in. Teu shifted to her knees upon the bed to sit higher then him. “If you think you will be allowed to go on this trip without being fully ready, you are sadly mistaken Noble Kieran.” Teu gave him a playful smile before getting off the bed entirely. “You eat that food there in full and put on that black shirt before I will consider you for this excursion.” Her hand gently cupped his cheek and placed a kiss on his forehead. “When you are finished, come out to the shop front. I have to get changed anyway.”

Teu allowed herself one more touch of his skin before leaving the quarters. With a duty set before her, it was necessary to get the proper supplies prepared. In the back closet of her home she pulled out her gear. Her practiced hands placed her leather armor onto her body in place of the healing white outfit. After the black leather armor was properly in place, she tucked her Sais in their sheathes on her back and falchion at her waist. Teu was a healer, but had learned the hard way that it was important to not be naïve in the world of evils. She walked back to the front of the home, hands busy with tying her hair in a ponytail on the back of her head. “Syn! Are the supplies ready to go and my horse?” Teu used her hip to open up the door to the shop.

The sphinx padded up to her friend with a tilted head in examination of Teu’s new attire for the day. “Yes, the supplies have been packed. I gave Jon’s soldiers most of what was needed as they left. Essentials are in the saddlebags. Try not to create too much of a ruckus.” The sphinx laughed as Teu merely shrugged in response. “I will watch the children and the shop. They do well in sales. We will turn quite a profit today.” Alairia and Dae stood by the counters working on their separate tasks, knowing full well that they were not to come along. Teu walked up behind each of them to place a kiss upon their heads. “Be good and I will be back soon.”

There was that expression that most people express, yet Kieran pressed forward. He would lay it all before her and more should she ask. Yet, she smiled and nodded, not even commenting on his heritage. How her demeanor towards him was yet to be seen, but he had high hopes. A nod was given in response to her question as he continued. Teu joked about his wound, which earned a chuckle from him. ”You’re fine, Teu. I understand completely.”

As she began to speak of the children, the noble committed their names to memory. Alairia was his little bedside assistant, the little blond headed girl. Kieran’s face fell to that of sympathy about the death of those which forced her to be orphaned. The desire to wrap his arms around her as she thought about the lost friends was strong, but he refrained for now. But it was worse to hear about Dae, and how his conception came to be. His hands balled into fists thinking about any who would defile such a beautiful woman, abusing her. If Kieran ever caught wind of any such attacks toward Teu… His blood boiled at the thought.

Dasor finally got a name, one that was also memorized as he had the distinct feeling that it would not be the last time he heard it. The mere fact that he was her husband, assisting her in coping mechanisms, helped calm Kieran some. ”They’re beautiful children. I think you’re doing a marvelous job at raising them single handedly.” Kieran reached out to grasp her hand, bringing it up to his lips all while staring into her eyes. ”Now, how about we start gathering those supplies and prepare a little trip to Waldon?” His lips brushed against her knuckles with every word.

Her eyes felt as if they were smiling as well with how happy she was at that moment. There was little she could do to hold back the sheer joy that continued to fill her up to the brim. It took much of her restraint to not pull on his arm to pull him closer to her. The loss of his heat against her made an empty feeling surround her. Teu merely made herself consciously aware that Kieran was sitting nearby in order to get her emotions under control. To feel a wholeness for the first time in ages made a difference for the woman. It was also embarrassing that she was behaving like a love struck teenager.

Lord Aerik and Lady Krizira. There was no stopping her surprised expression or the blank staring and random blinking as she tried to process the information he had just given. He was a noble. Teu had heard of his family as well as the land that they were rulers over. It was not a small size of land, and they were kind nobles. Finally, Teu nodded with a smile as no comment was made. When back in DaeLuin there were plenty that had comments to her lineage. She had been the small one of the family with little prestige to speak of compared to her father and step-mother. Even her cousins and siblings had more to fame then Teu ever could have. In the end, the healer had not minded being the quiet one of the family. She enjoyed supporting the Pack and their endeavors.

A gentle smile lit her lips as he spoke of helping the people. Even in the short time knowing Kieran it was not a surprise that he would use his capabilities to help another. It was sweet. “Elwin is your twin brother?” she asked. Now her expression turned to a frown in regards to an unknown person that would turn a rough hand towards Kieran. Already there was a sense of possessiveness as well as protectiveness. She would enjoy handling anyone attempting to hurt Kieran now that she was at his side. All that Teu could hope was that Kieran would see passed her dark half when the time would come. Kieran only had witnessed her healing and sweet nature. A moment a panic swept through her chest at the thought of him not handling the darkness that had sweltered in her heart. There had been a man before that had turned his gaze away for that very same thing. Hands gathered some of the blankets in a tight fisted ball to help relieve some of her anxiety. Time would tell. For the moment Teu would enjoy what was laid before her.

“And you got yourself stabbed instead…very safe,” she joked at him with a light touch on his knee. “I know it sounds wrong, but I am glad you were injured. I doubt any other way would our paths have crossed.” The healer laughed while shaking her head and closing her eyes. “That sounded terrible, and I retract that last statement. Not the meeting one another though.” She looked at him again with a light smile that could only express her feelings of adoration for him.

“My children? Oh…the gods give me patience with them,” she laughed. Gathering her knees to her chest, she thought of the best way to explain. “It is sort of unconventional…our past that is. Alairia is my adopted daughter. One of my dear friends died along with the mother. I did not know Alairia’s mother, but she was a noblewoman of a powerful land. Our family decided to take her in. It was then that I specifically took her because Corvo and I had been close.” Her eyes softened as she looked off a little thinking of her old friend. It had been difficult for Teu to adjust to Corvo not being around with his jokes and sweet demeanor. “And then Dae. He is a child that I love dearly but his creation was a product….of an attack.” Teu did not wish to say the words since it still was a difficult thing to think about. “My late husband, Dasor, was also in a seat of power as I had been at the time, and helped me. We had not been together at that moment, but he helped me cope. We decided to have Dae and here he is.”

Kieran was more than content to continue holding Teu, memorizing her scent, the feel of her hair and skin. Yet, she was first and foremost his healer. She had fought to get him to this point, and she was not going to lighten up merely because he was standing. With a light shake of his head, that smile still plastered on his face, Kieran obliged and sat next to her on the bed, accepting the order to eat. While he ate, she asked a question few ever get answers about.

People tend to act differently when they find out he is noble born. His gaze rested on the plate for a long moment before lifting to her face. ”I am Kieran Rothslin, third child of Lord Aerik and Lady Krizira. They hold some land south of Adeluna. From the time I could wield a hammer, I spent most of my free time helping our people build and do their chores.” Images of his family passed through his mind. Krizira’s kind smile, Aerik’s approving nod of the head. Zerrifa with her nose always in a book, and Elwin’s disapproving snort.

With a sigh, he returned his gaze back to the food. ”I left home. I tell myself there is more to do elsewhere, I can help many villages, and starting settlements. But really? It was to get away from Elwin.” He didn’t know why he was telling her at present. Surely it would have come up at some point. ”My twin can be a bit… aggressive. And possibly jealous of the people’s love toward me. Our spars were becoming more dangerous. I didn’t want to hurt my brother. Father and I both agreed this was the safest solution, helping our allies and maintaining distance.”

Safe was a relative term. Instead of Elwin causing the life threatening damage, it was strangers. Thieves and thugs on a dishonest path. ”What about the kids? I mean, what’s their story?” He realized he didn’t even know the girl’s name. As he listened to her answer, Kieran finished off the food.

Her vision wavered when he answered quite simply to her statement. He wanted to know more about her despite the short time being in the other’s presence. Teu had had declarations before after healing young warriors in her shop, but nothing actually meant anything. They had been amusing and a little flattering. No heed had been made when it came to their words of flattery. As his warmth began to engulf her, Teu knew that his words were not only sincere but ones that she wanted to be real. This time the woman wanted to pursue something deeper. At this point, Teu needed him to be telling the truth because she was already in over her head.

Teu rested her forehead against his chest, which Kieran was gentle to pull her even closer. His warmth was balancing the chill that began to rise up in her. She breathed in slowly and out to make an effort to calm down her magic. With the new magic of Revaliir there was constant relearning how to maintain a level of control. Hands lifted from his waist to wrap her arms around him and release her reservations. She rested fully into him and closed her eyes to allow Kieran to hold her tight. The feel of his hand against the back of her head gently made the butterflies in her stomach continually do flips. Someone said they wanted to get to know her, be in her presence, and she felt the same.

All the elf woman wanted to do was hide after the words thank you had come out of her mouth. He replied with a small laugh and holding her as she hid her face again. Teu smiled against his chest as he rested his cheek upon her head. He was sweet and kind. Few saw the side of her that he was at that moment. The healer would only allow her confident side be seen by the outside world. There could be no doubt in her patients’ minds that she would be incapable of her skills. In her personal life…well her children knew that she had her flaws. To think she was allowing a new man in her life to see this side was mind blowing.

Finally, the blush subsided to allow the female elf to lift her eyes to his again. There was no holding back a bright smile that was upon her face. She was genuinely happy to be in his grasp and to hear those words from him. Tears of happiness were fought back. Though she knew how she felt, then was not the time to completely indulge. She was a single parent after all. Teu pulled back slightly and directed him to sit on the bed. “You need to eat, and gather your strength.” Legs pulled up beneath her as the healer made a small nest out of her fluffed blankets. When he finally took a seat, Teu sat closely with him even while he ate. “Tell me about yourself. You know more about me than I do you. I know your name. Tell me more. If this is going to happen…well maybe a proper introduction should happen. You know…without the fever and needles into your skin.” Her head dipped down to check on the stitches that were holding quite well despite his sudden movements.

She had a point, the noble did not know her. They had met merely hours ago, healer and patient, tending to a dire situation that meant life or death. While her life was not on the line, his was, and it was through her wisdom, knowledge, and skill that he would soon be on the mend. Yet the counter argument was far too easy. Teu knew nothing of him, his heritage, or anything beyond a name. Far too easily, Kieran could be a phenomenal actor, playing her for some ulterior motive. ”I want to,” he whispered.

Now that his mind was his, memories long since tucked away where they belonged, Kieran seemed to be drowning in new sensations. Where Teu had felt love before, the noble had not. Anything that happened before was just a game, but this… This was like a dance. As she gave and demanded, Kieran was returning in kind. He wanted to press her closer, but relaxed his grip as his wound flared with pain.

When the sweet, sorrowful parting happened, even Kieran needed to catch his breath. A hand rested gently against the back of her head as he held her. Teu regained her composure enough to attempt to comment on what had transpired between them. He blinked in surprise at the words, a soft chuckle following soon after. This emerald truly was something else, and it made her all the more desirable. ”Thank you, huh?” Kieran smiled as he rested his cheek against her head. ”It should be me thanking you.”

What can he say, or do? He couldn’t very well put proper names to what he was feeling. Lust is so often misconceived as love, yet to tell her flat out “I don’t want to hurt you” didn’t seem to be the right choice of words. Kieran figuratively jumped out on a limb regardless. ”Teu, I meant what I said. I want to know you. And I want to do it right.” No rushing, take time, allow themselves to learn each other. Of course, he was just waking up from a fevered sleep and is still recovering from anemia, but he had never been as sure as he was right now about someone. When someone resonates with oneself, then the chance should be taken, lest regret fills the remainder of time.

An agitated ‘hm’ escaped her as he responded with his comment. He had won that round and she was not keen on that. Letting a newly healed patient go straight back into danger was not a pattern that a healer liked to allow. Least of all she wanted it be Kieran going back into danger. Teu could admit that much to herself, though she would not go much deeper into it. She frowned up at him as he smiled a rather charming smile that made her chest hurt. It was clear she was losing. If she did not get away from him quickly then there was going to be not ability for her to with the dissolving resolve.

Admitting that her magic was connected to her emotions had not been an easy thing to do. Teu was a strong independent woman, and stumbling over her own words was not a common occurrence. As he hovered over her there was a continued flush to her cheeks. Kieran already had an ability to send her into a fluster that only one other had been able to in the past. His portrait sat on her table side. She never thought another would enter her life that would make her feel that way. Dasor had been a special man with a special chance to her life. They had been Chosen together and fell into one another through tragedy. And now a man with piercing blue eyes looked down at her with a seriousness that sent a shiver down her spine. Much in her life had changed and she was more mature to understand what was happening. Could she accept it?

“Good…” she responded quietly. Why was she so embarrassed even with his gentle words? Teu knew she was stronger than that, but even so her knees were beginning to feel weak. Kieran was steady. His gaze did not waver even once as he examined her. The warmth of his hand against her cheek made her almost weep. It had been such a long time since someone had held her in a caring way. To be looked at the way that he was made her want to melt into the floor. “You don’t know me.” Her voice faltered minimally as he pulled her towards him. By the gods.

This time there was no misconceptions of the kiss. It was not a fever driven haze. He had made the decision to kiss her for knowing it was Teu. The kiss was not from being grateful for being healed. Breath caught in her chest as she rested her hand once more on his bare chest to respond in kind. Teu was not taken off guard. She moved to be closer to him in hopes of no space between them. No thoughts of her children came across her mind. No. All she could think about was how her hands had raised to hold on to his waist.

Their lips met repeatedly as Teu allowed her heart beat frantically. Finally, Teu broke away from his lips as she had to catch her breath. Hands continued to cling to his sides, while her forehead rested against his chest. Her emotions ran high though this time she was in full control. There was no question of how she felt and did not endeavor to fight against it. Kieran seemed to be clear with what he had already begun to feel. She could not look up at him until Teu had gotten herself under control. “Umm….yea.” This time there was no ability to hold back a small laugh at her reaction. “I am not sure what to really say. Thank you? That’s awkward. And….it is awkward. I’m going to be quiet now.” She rested her head against his chest again to hide the blush. Kill me now.

Teu begrudgingly accepted the fact that he was going, whether she liked it or not. He couldn't blame her, for she was a healer, and probably worried about  his health since he was recently injured. A disarming smile graced his face as she accepted. "Knew you'd see it my way." Kieran waited patiently for her to answer his question, picking up on the little details. Her pressed lips, elevated heart rate and breathing, hesitant words. The healer was affected by his close proximity.

It was decided she was cute when she stumbled over the words, flustered as she was. There it was, the answer to the flares. Emotional magic revealed so much as it flared. Taking the situation into account, one could read the mental state and know the inner mechanics of the mind. "Your frost has not hurt me yet today, Teu." This time, it was his turn to have a soft, and reassuring voice. More questions than he had intended were answered as she glanced at the portraits, everything clicking into place now. That was the picture of her deceased husband, someone she keeps close to her even now.

Selfishly, the thought of her marital status making her available flitted through his thoughts. Of course, it wasn't helping that her thumb was caressing his skin. The hand on her shoulder moved to cup Teu's neck, his own thumb barely swiping across her cheek as his free hand reached up to tuck a stray hair back in place. "Brave, selfless, caring, strong." After stating the traits he has already seen within her, Kieran tried to pull her in for another kiss.

Somehow, in this moment, everything changed. Mamlak held an emerald that sparkled greater than the sun, and the noble wanted to make it his own. He had not any intentions of making a name for himself when he left home, nor binding himself to anything. Least of all was the desire to find someone to fall for. Kieran just prayed that he wasn't doing something foolish that would get them both hurt. This time, he would let her decide when to break.

A silence lingered in the air as she stood in the doorway waiting for Jon to appear. Her fingers fidgeted together as if they were trying to tear up an invisible piece of paper. Teu had little capability of holding in her emotions. She was an open book, and the only way she could hide was to literally face a different direction until control could be maintained. Her lower lip was chewed upon again as she waited, and was inwardly relieved at the appearance of her soldier contact. Jon had lifted a brow at her in curiosity and intrigue that Teu was taking such a forward position on a small village. He knew that it was a matter that was in need of addressing, so this would not be an inconvenience for the soldiers. When the armored man started to leave he waved his hand in the air a couple times in acknowledgement that he heard Kieran.

“Jon is a good man. He is noble and tends to help those in need. You can trust he will handle this swiftly and thoroughly. I will go soon and make sure that supplies are placed in the hands of those necessary. Though these soldiers are good people, they can hardly tell the different between a fever remedy and a laxative.” She laughed shortly at her own joke though it had been an issue before. Teu had held her laughter in as long as possible when tending one of the rookies in Jon’s ranks. “Eat the food to gather up your strength.” The healer turned away in another effort to keep from Kieran seeing the blush on her face. Keeping a brave face was not working in the least.

As she moved away Kieran was quickly to stand up and throw the blanket away from him. Teu let out a slight gasp at his sudden movements. Instinctually she reached out steady him, but he already was putting a hand on her shoulder. He was taller and looked into her eyes intently. Teu clenched her mouth tightly shut and breathed steadily in hopes to keeping her cheeks a normal color. Heat began to flood the tips of her pointed ears as emotions began to flood up. “That won’t be necessary…” Her words were cut off as he declared that his mind could not be changed. He was stubborn in more ways than one. Teu pursed her lips and frowned up at him as she wanted to argue in return. The stance he was taking on it left her with little choice. “Fine.” The response was short and had a mix of annoyance and resignation to it. Teu did not want him to push himself to the point of injury again.

Breaking eye contact was what she wanted more than anything at that point. His blue eyes were boring into her further than anyone had in a long time. Her chest felt as if it were about to explode. Mouth felt as if it were drying up with the nerves that were swimming around in her stomach. He was so close to her. Everything told her to move away from the touch he laid on her shoulder, yet she could not bring herself to pull away. When he asked the question her stomach dropped slightly and her lips pressed tightly together. “I…ummm…” Teu finally was able to break her eye contact with him in an effort to collect her thoughts. His gaze had been so intense that her thoughts flew out of her mind. “I’m a healer, you know that…obviously….you saw…it happened.” Her words were stumbled over as she attempted to put some sort of answer together.

Teu felt as she were going to cry from inward fluster. How was he able to throw her for such a curve? She lifted her hand and rested it on his arm that was still making the connection to her. “My magic is deeply tied to my emotions. And you made them come to the surface. I’m sorry if my frost hurt you in anyway.” A small smile was able to be brought forth. It was forced in an effort to calm the mood between them. She wasn’t sure if he was feeling as on edge as she was. It had been a long time since she had felt anything like this. “I have a rather complicated past. I try not to delve too deep into it. Simple enough I am a mother. A healer. A widow.” Her green eyes finally lifted to look over at the portrait of Dasor that had been noticed by Kieran. “I’m a woman trying to make her way.” Her gaze now was making a connection with his, though this time she was not afraid. Thumb lightly stroked his bare arm in a small circle. “That is who I am.”

Despite the picture of that man, there was no mistaking her response. Her hand had rested gently on his bare chest, both of their hearts raced. Yet, both if them were now avoiding one another's gaze. Some piece of information was missing. Teu brushed it off as a common occurrence, which he questioned. Yet, how many were resistant to magic as he was that a simple spell could not fix the ailment? She repositioned herself at the door, and the noble couldn't help but wonder if she was hiding something from him. To change from reassuringly grasping his hand to standing at the door spoke volumes.

Someone entered the dwelling, boots clicking against the wooden floor seemed to echo through the room. He was greeted by his name, Jon, and the situation laid out before him. Before he left, Kieran spoke up. ”Tell them Kieran sent you!” Would that be enough to keep their faith in him regardless of his failure? Only time would tell. The platter of food was put closer to him, but food was suddenly the last thing on his mind. Teu intended on going there herself. Kieran threw the blanket off and stood up. Yes, there was a light dizziness about him, but he waited a moment for it to dissipate before moving.

A few silent steps, and his hand was placed on her shoulder. He stood barely a few inches taller than her. Those icy blue orbs intently stared down at her vibrant green gaze. ”I'm going too. By the time you're ready, I'll be strong enough. Trust me. I am not going to abandon them while others help on my behalf.” There was an inkling of an idea that she was more than she seemed, and he didn't truly worry about her so much. She looked like she was capable of taking care of herself. Still, he had made a promise and he was going to keep it. ”You won't change my mind. It's either you let me tag along, or worry that I may pass out somewhere behind you anyway.”

It was a gamble, but he wasn't going to back down from this. Yet, the possibility of him passing out at that point of time was slim to none. He had always been a faster healer compared to some. A thousand questions burned at the tip of his tongue, waiting to fill the space between them. Who is the man in the photo, why is she avoiding his gaze, did she truly began feeling a connection with him? As young as she appeared, it would not surprise him to see that another girl developed a crush, but this one was different. She had an air of command about her, respect and discipline. Something resonated deep within when he touched her, and Kieran wanted to know what it was. ”What are you?” he mused aloud, very unintentionally. Realizing it was spoken he back pedaled. ”Everytime we touch, there is a chill. That kiss, my hand on your shoulder… I know you heal with some ice magic, but what is causing the magic to flare like that?”

Him taking the water was a good sign. She smiled to herself while he took the drink and he seemed calmed a little by it. “Waldon,” she repeated softly. It was a smaller village, but not one that was unheard of. There had been much strife surrounding the village and its people. Teu had sent some supplies their way when she could but it was never certain if it had reached them. If it was as bad as Kieran was saying then it was most likely her supplies had not made it to their destination. Her brows furrowed together as the entire concept began to sink deeper in her chest. No wonder he was this upset.

Hugging the patient had not been expected on her side, but as she pulled away Kieran caught her. Shock made her flinch though she did not fight his touch. He kissed her. Teu could feel her heart beating rapidly in her chest and knew that he had to hear it. Heat rose upon on her cheeks and her ears. The man was gentle in his kiss, and Teu felt herself respond. Hand lifted to lightly rest on his chest just as her frost came to the surface. This brought them both back to their senses and pull away from one another. The healer shook her head as he apologized. Green eyes avoided his gaze.

Dae came as he was called and given instructions. As he left the room, Teu stood up from the bed to stand in the doorway. Out of the corner of her eye she saw that Kieran had picked up the portraits of the children as well as her deceased husband. Guilt made her stomach drop. Lightly, her fingers traced the curves of the ring that hung around her neck on a chain. Her head leaned back against the doorframe though she tilted her head to look back at the man still struggling to heal. “You have no need to apologize. It happens to healers from time to time when patients are in a haze.” Teu downplayed the action between them though it hurt to say the words. She felt as if she were betraying the memory of Dasor even when he had long been dead. Not only was it a betrayal to Dasor, but a taking advantage of an injured man that she had quite quickly taken a fancy to. Once he was well enough he would be gone from her life.

Teu swallowed the saddening thought down and put on a fake smile in an effort to reassure Kieran. “Truly, do not worry about it. We needed to move you because as you tried to leave my shop you collapsed from the blood loss. You didn’t make it to the door. Instead of having you rest on an uncomfortable table, we brought you to my room. The shop has become busy and you needed the quiet.” The half-elf moved away from the door frame as she heard the outer door open. She kept her gaze away from Kieran as much as she could in hopes to not betray her true feelings.

“Jon.” She smiled brightly up at a fully armored man that carried his helmet under tucked her his arm. “I have a town of Waldon that needs aid. They have been attacked on several occasions and the newest one has been recent.” Her brunette head nodded over her shoulder towards the injured man in her bed. “He was taking supplies as well as coin and was attacked. I have sent supplies before as well and now I am fairly certain that nothing has made it there. Please…do something. I have stores that can be taken, but these bandits must be handled.” She reached out and lightly touched the soldier’s arm to make her plea even more meaningful. Teu watched as Jon’s eyes went from her to the young man in the bed and finally a nod of his head. The healer knew that Jon would do as asked since she had taken to tending to his soldiers without asking for more than a small fee. Teu would go out of her way to help those that needed it, and had not asked much in return. “Man of few words, but is full of compassion!” She smiled brightly again and gave him a small bow.

“I can reassure you that Waldon will be well taken care of. Once I have the time, I will leave myself and tend to any injuries there,” she said to Kieran as Jon left without an actual word. “Here, eat this.” Teu took the tray of food and placed it next to him for easy reach. It was hard for her to resist biting her lower lip from nerves as she continued to put on a brave face.

The offered water was greatly appreciated as it soothed and cooled his dry throat. "Waldon. The town is Waldon." He had promised one of his cousins that he would protect the place, as her friend resided there. That meant little in the grand scheme of things, except the friend was adamant on dying with the town. Teu's smile was friendly, the tone of her promise comforting.

Her hug, though, shocked him. She smelled so strongly of herbs and clerical concoctions that Kieran forgot who she was, or where they were. Instead, his mind chose to latch on to a more stable memory. He was transferred back about six years ago, when his brother had injured Kieran during a spar. One of the younger maids, about his age, was Kieran's personal maid on his mothers orders.

As per usual, Kieran caught Teu and pulled her into a slow kiss. Her lips were just as soft, and alluring as Alicia's.  However, there was an intoxicating chill that passed between them, similar to a sparking tingle. Surprised, Kieran pulled back, realizing soon after that it was not Alicia in his grasp, but Teu. Instantly, his cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "Sorry, I… Don't know what came over me." As he attempted to recover from the lapse of judgement, a young child was called into the room and given instructions.

The boy looked very much like Teu. Slowly, his eyes turned to the portraits. It was Dae with Kieran's healing child assistant. Kieran picked up both pictures, studying them intrusively. Had he kissed a married woman? Hastily he returned them, not wanting to be on the bad side of that man.  "I'm really sorry, Teu. I'm not stable, not myself. What happened to make moving me here necessary?" They might as well have small talk while they wait for the authorities. Kieran finished the water, and was not-so-subtly staring at her food. When was the last time he had eaten?

Author: Teu, Posted: Mon Jun 18, 2018 2:04 PM, Post Subject: Honest Intent [P]

The feeling of a broad smile made Teu feel self-conscious. She pressed her lips tightly together to hide the elation she was feeling that the man was awake. Teu pulled her hand away from him and folded them carefully on her lap. Fingers interlaced in an effort to contain herself. Emerald green orbs followed the noble’s hand as he poked his sutures. She managed to not reprimand him for touching the injury site. It was clear that he was attempting to piece together all that had happened along the way. He was confused, and the fever had done little to help the situation on top of his physical injury.

A blush tinted her pale cheeks as Kieran began to take in the surroundings. Her room was little to speak of. The only personal flairs were that of her deceased husband’s portrait and that of her children. She could not afford to decorate the way her previous homes had been. His hoarse voice cracked under the weight of his words as he attempted to communicate. Her hand reached out quickly for the glass of water Alairia had brought earlier that had yet to be touched. “Here. Drink some of this to help,” she instructed. There was something greatly upsetting Kieran and there was little she could do to help soothe him.

“We can get in contact with the authorities. I have good contacts now. What town is this? I can help, just please don’t worry too much.” Teu knew that her words would not get through to him. From what she could already tell of the gentleman he took his duties quite seriously. “We will get them help, Kieran. Please don’t stress. You didn’t fail anyone…you were stabbed! You were injured and overwhelmed. This will get fixed. I can help.” Teu smiled softly and lightly touched his hand in another effort to reassure him though she doubted it would work. He hardly knew her.

Her emotions quickly switched to anger as she thought about the bandits that had caused the anguish. Holding it in was not easy for her. Being a healer did not mean that she was incapable to combat especially after being the Chosen for the Lord Raktor. In her dutiful work she had learned another side for herself. Shadows began to boil deep within calling out for those that had injured the man that lay in her bed.

As Kieran looked up at her with such despair upon his face, this time she did not hold back. Teu leaned forward and hugged him to her in an effort to comfort. “You did what you could. Trust me. We will be able to fix this.” For a split second as her head was next to his, her green eyes turned black with the malice. Quickly it disappeared as she gave him a gentle squeeze before pulling away. She did not blush this time as she felt that it had been a proper way to reassure a patient.

“Dae,” she called softly. The child was in the room quickly as he had felt her call more than heard it. “I need you to contact Jon. Tell him that he has something to handle.” His gray eyes widened as rarely did Teu call upon her tokens in when people owed her. Dae nodded and ran out the door to do as he was told.

There had been a scuffle, a fight. A knife had found his belly, something he was not equipped to fix himself. Hours of walking, feeling fainter with every step. As his mind was tracking back through the memories, his eyes searched her face, almost confused about something. Momentarily, his mind blacked out as soon as the shop door was opened, only to find himself on a table. Kieran remembered every stitch she had put into his skin.

He looked down, gently poking at the sutures. They were small, and expertly done. The noble remembered he had every intent on leaving the shop. Why, then, was he still laying before the healer? His confused gaze lifted to examine the room. In the terms of size, it wasn't all that spacious, but it wasn't terribly small either. It was sparsely decorated with only two pictures. One had two children, in which he recognized the little girl, the other was an adult male. Somehow, he had made it from the shop, to personal living quarters. This was not where he meant to go… Did he get out, only to be taken into someone else's home and she was on house call?

"Teu, how… Where?" Kieran's voice felt hoarse as he struggled to absorb everything. It was obvious he was in no shape to attempt to help that poor village. With a defeated sigh, Kieran glared at his balled up fists. "Call the authorities… They need help. Everything rested on me, and I've failed them." The death of an entire village could not rest upon his shoulders. Everyone was trying to avoid being forced to leave their homes and relocating, many of them would rather die of starvation rather than leaving. All he could thinking of was how his attempts paled in comparison to his siblings. His brother would have rallied troops to track down the looters, where his sister would go to use her words to send assistance in any fashion she could wrestle from greedy nobles.

And what did he do? Volunteer to gather the resources and deliver them personally. Tears welled in his eyes as he imagined what they would say to him. "I've failed them…" 'And made a mockery of myself.' This time, all attempts to extract himself from the bed were refused. Kieran lifted his teary blue eyes up to Teu. "What am I going to do, Teu? I can't face them as I am. But I'm their last hope…"

The children were genuinely surprised at the reaction their mother was having to one of her patients falling. She would be worried of course, but it was the panic that went deep. Dae and Alairia continued to exchange glances as if they were communicating telepathically. Though they were not blood related, the pair had become close. Alairia was more concerned about her mother’s state of mind currently while Dae was concerned for what it would mean later. At that time Teu was not going to think about her deceased husband, but the guilt would settle in later like it always did. The young boy closed his eyes for a second as he waited for his mother to give instructions. All they could do was wait until a decision was made.

‘We need to move him,’ a voice finally spoke out. Syn was sitting on her haunches looking at the three family members stand beside the unconscious man. Emotions were running high. The sphinx was confused as to why but it did not matter. ‘Let us take him to the rooms in the back where it can be more comfortable. He will not be waking up for a little while.’ The four legged creature stood up and edged her back against the table to carry the patient. ‘Let us get this done with so the shop can continue to function. We shall have customers coming in shortly since hours have only started.’ Teu blinked several times as she came back to herself. The healer felt shame at the emotions that had been able to overcome the common sense. “Yes. Let’s move him.”

Teu, with the help of Dae, moved Kieran to Syn’s back. The small family balanced the unconscious man on the sphinx’s back while getting to the home. They walked to the very back where Teu’s room reside. Her room was not large as the others had been allocated for the children. A four post bed was off to the side where they put Kieran to rest. Pillows were placed beneath his head and a blanket to cover him. Even with the fever continuing to push against his body, they needed to keep him stable. “Bring me the rest of the supplies please.” She sat on the edge of the bed keeping her cooling hand under the down stuffed covers to make a cooling atmosphere. Dae and Alairia nodded in unison while returning to the shop to gather what was necessary. ‘I will watch the shop with the help of Dae and Alairia on and off. Do not worry too much. He just needs to get some good rest.’ Syn put a light paw on her friend’s knee with a smile. ‘You know this.’ Teu smiled at her friend and nodded. “I don’t know why I am so upset over this. This isn’t the first time it has happened with a patient. I am just so worried.” Syn chuckled lightly and turned out of the room. ‘Do not fret too long. I will work with the children for the shop. We will be busy today…I can feel it in my bones.’

The healer took in a settling breath as she adjusted on the bedside. She said nothing while looking down at Kieran. Alairia entered the room with some food for Teu to munch on. ‘Mother, he will be okay. He has a strong heart and mind. I like him.’ Teu laughed softly as she placed a kiss on her daughter’s forehead and hugged her with her free arm. “He seems like a nice man. He will be fine.” The healer gave her daughter one more kiss as Dae walked into the room to lean against the wall. ‘We sold out of the fever reducer already. It seems there is a cold that is running through town and we are the closest and most affordable…from the customers’ conversations.’ Dae had a smirk on his face. Teu sighed and nodded her head. “I have some back up in the cabinets in our kitchen. I was preparing just in the emergency. Good job, my darling.”

Both of the children left the room to go about their duties. Teu stood up from the bed to grab a book from her table when Kieran finally bolted straight up. She was quick to return to his side and instinctually grabbed his hand to comfort him. “Hey, Kieran. You are going to be all right,” she soothed and smiled. The joy that filled her chest could barely be contained. She had to hold herself back from throwing her arms around him in a relieved hug.

Teu suggested contacting authority figures of the Mamlak governing body. Kieran didn’t know if he was going to request assistance, or try to track the hunters himself. All he knew is that he intended to make his way out of the shop and down the street. Her desperate attempt to make him stay did give the noble some pause before that stubborn streak made up his mind.

Despite being lifted, the cool hand on his forehead, and the whispered begging, Kieran did not wake up. In fact, his body was working hard to replenish the lost blood as his breathing became rapid and shallow. As the healer, sphinx and children moved about, their patient was oblivious to it all. Even when he was relocated from shop table to a bed in their personal quarters.

For hours he laid there, a worried Teu hovering over him, and kids running in and out of the room. Eventually his breathing stabilized, but the fever continued to threaten to overtake his body. A long hour after the fever finally broke did the patient finally begin to stir. It started with a scrunching of his face and a light moan escaping his throat. Unfamiliar combinations of scents filled his nose as his mind registered being in one of the softest beds he had been on in a very long time.

The village! With a gasp, Kieran bolted straight up, adrenaline now coursing through his system. ”The money!” He blinked, remembering the more recent events. Icy blue orbs rested upon Teu’s face, those green eyes, black hair. ”Teu?” Was he recalling the name correctly through the fuzzy memories soaked in pain?

His still pale features darkened at her words in regards to the coin. She had made a small joke, and yet it had brought him pain. Immediately, Teu felt guilt wash over her at that realization. The healer bit her lower lip to keep from apologizing repeatedly. To bring attention to what she had said would only make it worse. Though, his words made it clear that she had triggered something. Lightly the woman touched his wrist in an effort to show her support. Inwardly she was confused why she cared so much of how Kieran was doing outside of his injuries. Teu swallowed hard the lump that had formed in her throat.

She turned her attention towards Alairia in hopes that she could refocus off of Kieran’s personal situations. Her young daughter was full of life and light despite the life she had to endure already. Teu admired her constant bright smile in the face of everything. Whenever the mother felt doubt or weakness there was a shining face of Alairia. Between Dae and Alairia, Teu had found the strength to open up the shop she had always wanted to. There had been many bumps in their path. Having finally set upon the city of Mamlak, she had seen that there was a lack of healers and shops for that focus close to the lower ends. Money was the name of the game, of course. Teu was not in it for the money, but the ability to help others.

So, all of his siblings as well as himself were resistant to healing magic. It brought the question to the surface of if that applied for combative magic? Teu’s curiosity continued to grow as she thought about it further. She kept the questions down to keep from bringing up any other uncomfortable thoughts for Kieran. Instead, she chewed on her lower lip again while coming up with Alairia leaving to retrieve some proper clothing for their patient. The healer turned to work on some medicinal packets, not seeing the man attempt to get up from his bed.

Hearing his voice speak about what had happened, though there was a strain in his words. “Further contact with the authorities from Mamlak can be contacted for help, maybe?” She turned her head to glance at Kieran over her shoulder to be shocked to see him standing up from the table. “Kieran….” Her voice trailed off as she watched him bow and speak. “Please don’t leave. You are not well enough to go.” Teu could hear the desperation in her own voice as she tried to convince him to stay. “Please get back on the table and rest. We can find help to assist the village you are talking about.” Her words did not linger long in the air as the patient slumped to the ground.

“Kieran!” The healer raced to his side and sat on the floor to check his pulse. Thankfully, it was there even though it was fainter than it had been before. The door to her home opened up to let in Dae, Alairia, and Syn. “Mother?” Dae moved swiftly to his mother’s side with gray eyes focused on helping anyway he could. “Let’s get him to the table and make sure that we keep him in a stable condition.” Alairia placed the requested shirt off to the side and went to the table as Kieran was placed back on the table. The little girl could see the panic on her mother’s face that made her look at her brother with worry. The older looking boy shook his head slightly to make his sister leave the topic alone.

Teu moved around the healing section swiftly as she went about checking his wound which did not reopen thankfully. He had lost a lot of blood, but she did not have the ability to replace it with her healing powers. Dae and Alairia remained just to the sides of their mother’s elbows in case they were needed. Both were now trained well in the healing arts to handle things when they were at their worst. It was difficult for them at young ages, but they had survived horrible things already. The three were a powerful team. Teu laid a gentle hand across his forehead and emanated a light frost on from her hand to keep his temperature down. “Please wake up,” she whispered softly.

Teu's laugh was a sweet melody, briefly sending his stomach a flutter at the mere sound of it. All too quickly, it became stone and sank harshly as a dark shadow fell across his features when she mentioned the quantity of coins in his possession. Yes, it was a sizeable amount, and none of it his own. Kieran intended to get it back, and soon. Those villagers cannot go without those supplies for much longer. ”Last of their coin…” In his current situation, he wrestled with the idea of leaving now for an attempted retrieval, or wait somewhere till morning.

He watched the woman and child interact, their love for one another clear as day. Oh, he knew well the so called strategic placement of establishments, homes, and the economic variances throughout cities. Whether she deliberately set the shop here or not remained to be seen. However, Teu was his savior for now, seeing as he may not have made the journey to the clerics farther in. Kieran sighed. ”Sadly, I am aware. From my mother's side, I'm told. All my siblings have it too.” When the child was sent away for fresh clothing, and she turned to her station, Kieran slowly sat up with a groan of pain.

”Here to Mamlak. A village two days west of here sent me for supplies. Their caravans keep getting attacked, and this was our last chance for their survival.” The noble pushed himself off the table, holding onto it until he was sure he would be fine. While his head throbbed at the effort, almost light and a definitely dizzy, Kieran stayed up. ”I thank you for your assistance, Ms. Balatro. It is on the word of my father's name, Rothslin, that I promise to repay you, as soon as I retrieve that money and get those supplies off to the village.” He gave a short bow and turned to leave. But luck was not with him as he barely made it two steps when he blacked out momentarily and fell once more.

The realization that magic healing would not work on her patient was one that she wished wasn’t true. Healing with magic allowed for fewer issues that could appear later. Teu was concerned that if he left too soon, that he would not get proper check-ups on the injury. Her touches were light despite the work she was doing. The healer attempted to keep her features neutral as she saw the pain he tried to cover up as her stitches were made. Teu’s heart went out to him even though there was little she could do at the moment to stop the pain. No magic would help him feel better. “You are doing very well, sir. Really, I am almost done.” Again she lightly touched him in hopes to sooth him.

With the stitches finished, and pleased with the results Teu had given the concoction to the patient. He was obedient with the instructions given. Such a compliant gentleman. Once her seat was taken next to him, she continued to clean off her hands with a clean towel. Her eyes flicked to the man’s exposed chest from time to time to see that his well-muscled body was bruised besides the cut he had received. Many times had she seen men disrobed in front of her for the sake of necessary healing. This time she blushed slightly and managed to turn her face away in time to hide it…at least from the patient. Alairia was able to catch her mother’s face and gave a small giggle that was hidden behind her hand.

Teu laughed at his response for her voice of sympathy of his injuries. “You must have had a decent amount of coin on you to attract such thieves.” Alaira had taken her seat and moved it as close to Kieran as possible to hold his hand tightly. Teu was shocked at how quickly her daughter had become attached to the patient. The little blonde child smiled brightly over at the man as she squeezed his hand in an attempt to reassure him. “Yes! Mama opened up the shop not too long ago.” Her smile was bright and lit within her green eyes. Teu chuckled a little as she pet her daughter’s beautiful hair. “I couldn’t have done it without you or Dae, my darling. We sell assorted medicines for in home self-care. I also can make remedies for specific ailments upon request.” She released the tie at the end of her hair to run her fingers through the slightly messed brunette strands. “I have come to find that immediate medical attentions are needed more often than not in this city. The local guards as well as citizens have been bringing in business for me to help tend. Healers of the city are higher up and away from the gates.”

Her fingers quickly began to put her braid back into order. “I am glad that you were able to get here for aid. You are aware of your magic resistance, yes? Your healing will be a more difficult road, so I will make you some medicine to continue taking.” Teu stood up and walked around the table that he lay upon to look at his wound. The blood was clotting well, though a large bruise was unavoidable with the previous bleeding. “Your shirt is ruined. Alaira, please tell Dae to find something that belonged to grandfather in the back closet for Kieran.” Her little feet hit the floor as she dropped from her chair. “I will be right back!”

Teu watched as her daughter skipped out of the room and through the door that led to their dwelling. “Where were you heading to be attacked, if you don’t mind me asking?” Teu checked the sutures one more time before turning to her work station to begin making small packets of medicine for consumption later.

He stared up at the ceiling, gritting his teeth. The usual curses flited through his thoughts against his immunity to magic. How much of this would be over with by now if that was not true? It took much of his concentration just to control himself that he couldn't respond to her efforts to soothe him, nor attempt to make small talk with the young one. She shouldn't be witness to such things, but it was how good healers are raised, he supposed.

Kieran stiffled a chuckle at the mention of the child being his little nurse and whispered, "She's sweet." He accepted the help to sit up barely, enough to get the bitter liquid into him. Due to lack of ease for healing, the young noble and his siblings were accustomed to bitter medicines, even if they didn't like it. As an obiedient child, the entire concoction was consumed without fuss. The pillow was a nice touch, though, one he was not expecting. Teu introduced herself, and the effects of the medicine was beginning to set in, taking a edge off the pain.

"You didn't do it. Thieves did for coin." As the child sat down, proud of what she has done, Kieran reached over and took her hand, giving her a smile. "I'm Kieran. Thank you both. You… run this?" Even though the question was truly meant for Teu, it was spoken to the child as if she was the owner of the healing shop.

Even as she worked her emerald eyes would lift up for a mere moment to check on the gentleman that was laying on the table. He was young, and seemed to be fit despite the current condition he had arrived in. The healer had high hopes for his chances of recovery. There were no amble amount of scars upon his flesh that indicated intense levels of combat. It was possible that he was a fighter, but there were few marks to prove prolonged battle. Teu lifted her wrist up to brush away a stray hair that had fallen from her braid to get in her way. Subconsciously she was chewing on her lower lip as her fingers continued to move.

“I am so sorry,” she half whispered to the patient as he flinched from the needle. Teu hated it when they were still awake while her ministrations were made. The time was too short to put him under. It was also too dangerous to put him out with the fever that had begun. Lightly she touched the uninjured portion of his exposed chest in an effort to comfort him. “Keep your head down, sir. I promise I will finish as quickly as possible.” Teu offered what smile she could before going back to work. She was praying to the goddess of life as she continued in hopes that it would help the man’s chances.

Alairia was quick to want to help. She liked the look of the patient. He seemed nice from what she could tell even with the blood everywhere. Most children would not feel comfortable around such things, but Alairia had seen much even in her young years. Her small hands placed a cold wet cloth across the man’s brow in an effort to cool him down. Eyes grew wide as the man finally was able to open his to look at her. “Your eyes are pretty,” she responded to his thanks. A bright smile lit her face while looking at him. Gently she pet his head in an effort to soothe her patient. The healer saw how hard he tried to stifle his pain. Guild continued to nag at her for the additional pain she was causing him.

Teu smiled that reached her eyes at the notice that he had playfully tugged her daughter’s hair. The healer was proud of her daughter and the skills she had already accumulated. “Sweetie, I need you to get the bottle labeled fever reducer that is sitting out on the counter. Mix it with the water. Two tablespoons shall do it, my heart.” She glanced up to see the child running off to do as she was bid. “Sir, she is an excellent study. She will take great care of you.” Teu smiled again as she put in the last stitch. Pushing away from the table, she stood up to look closer at the work she had just completed. Alairia trotted back with the glass of water that was full of the herbal remedy. “Good job, my dear.

“Sir, I am going to lift your head up for you to drink this. It will reduce your fever as well as help with the pain.” Around the table she circled until on the left side. Very carefully her hand snaked under his head to help him sit up only in the slightest. Glass was held to his lips for him to drink the substance. “I am sorry for the bitter taste, but it will help.” Once it had been consumed, Teu set him back down though this time with a comfortable pillow to rest on.

She took up a more comfortable seat beside his head to watch him as she cleaned her hands with sanitizing clothes. “I never got a chance to introduce myself. I am Teu Balatro sir. I am sorry you were injured. Do you have the strength to tell me what has happened to you?” The child had brought her own chair to sit next to the patient with her hand resting lightly on the edge of the table. Pride shone on her face at how the cloth was placed properly and potion consumed. Of course his recovery would be due to her efforts instead of her healer mother.

Kieran could not find the strength to lift even a hand to assist himself, let alone open his eyes. The poor sod was oblivious of everything until a sharp intake of breath and the arching of his back when suddenly his wound was cold. His heart accelarated to the efforts of the healer's magic, yet seemed to be a little strong for it. As she dashed away, his head turned, vision swiming. Though difficult to focus, he could make out the dark hair.

Whoever the strangers had brought him to came back to his side, her face wavering just over him. That concerned, serious look that set itself on her features seered itself into his mind as his eyes fluttered closed. A single, soft groan escaped as the needle pierced the sensitive, inflamed skin with an involuntary flinch. Pain meant you were alive, but he knew a lot of blood had been lost, and he burned. Healing the skin was just the start. If he lost full consciousness, would he survive? Young voice mingled with the healer's own as orders were given and obeyed.

With a struggle, Kieran opened his icy blue eyes and smiled weakly at the child as she placed a cool, damp cloth across his forehead. He managed to lift a hand and playfully tug at strand of her blonde hair. "Thanks" was the only breathy word he could utter before a spasm of pain splashed red across his sight. The injured man attempted to stifle the usual reactions of doubling over, or other actions. Instead, his hands balled into fists, one foot pressing against the table beneath him, effectively lifting his hip slightly.

It had already been a long day and it had only barely begun. She let out a heavy sigh as she had finally entered the shop to prepare for the day. There were things to be sorted as well as restocked. Teu glanced at the list that she had started the previous day of supplies that needed to still be purchased for the store. The first thing she did was check on the healing section of her shop. More and more patients were arriving to get some sort of mending done. She was pleased that the word was getting out that proper skills were available for those in need. Still, there was the hope that more purchases of supplies would be done then her abilities.

Delicate fingers reached out and grabbed the ever growing list of necessary supplies. She ran her free hand through her hair that already needed to be redone in her usual braid. Dae had already been a handful that morning. Alairia begged to be allowed to join her in the shop though her homework had not been completed to proper levels. Thankfully, Teu had Syn watching the children to make sure the chores and homework assignments were completed. The sphinx enjoyed taking care of the single mother’s children as they listened well when her claws were out. Teu chuckled gently as she thought of the last time they were brave enough to attempt a defiance of their new guardian.

Teu walked over to one of her counters that were used to distribute medicines. With the list laid upon the countertop, she opened one of the cabinets above her to look at the labeled bottles. Hands worked quickly to redo the single long braid that tended to hang over her shoulder. That particular cabinet was in good order and did not need resupply. Just as she closed the door, the front door opened to her shop. “Good day,” she called out over her shoulder. The scent of blood hit her senses before she was able to turn around and see some of the neighbors bring a young man in with grave injuries. “To the table, quickly.” Teu rushed over to the back of the shop to grab her apron and tied in on to protect what she could of her clothes.

Sweat had beaded on the man’s face and was streaming down his skin. He was extremely pale from the amount of blood that had already been lost. As the patient was placed on the table for examination, the gentleman that had helped her newcomer made their way out. Teu would thank them later when she went for her supply run. “Sir, you are in my healing shop. Please don’t move around. I have to work on you. You can trust me. You are safe.” Her words were soft as she brushed the hair back from his forehead. Sweat soaked his hair and face. There was a fever that was already working on the man that if it set in too deeply would cause more trouble than the actual wound that had been made in his side.

She was quickly to pull back the shirt that covered the wound. Blood had slowed as the body attempted to clot the hole, but it was not doing a good enough job. Teu placed her hands over the abdomen and began to chant under her breath. Frost began to coat her fingertips up to her wrist. Healing powers seemed into the wound, but a frown formed on her brow. Her technique was flawless and powerful, yet only the deepest part of his injury began to mend. Teu pulled back to see her frost had barely made any progress. The blood continued to flow forth even if it had slowed slightly.

In a dash, the healer made moves to grab more of her equipment since the magic would not do the job for this particular patient. “Keep still please. You are doing just fine,” she continued to encourage. She pulled up a chair to sit beside him and worked on the site. The sound of a door opening did not make her move her head. “Alairia, I told you to work on your assignments.” Teu’s fingers worked quickly as she stitched up one of the sections. A young blonde girl walked to the elbow of her mother with eyes focused on the injury. “I have finished and smelled the blood. What can I do mama to help?” The little girl was determined. “Get me some more clean water. This will have to be done traditionally and he has a rather odd angled wound. Irrigate that please.” The two females worked together to get the bleeding under control. “Now I need you to place a cool clothe across his brow to help keep his temperature down.”

Mamlak, nestled against a mountain range, divided in two by life giving water. It was a place known for markets, and culture. A place that was perfect for Kieran’s current mission. About a two day walk west, further into the peninsula, was a small village that was struggling. They were in need of supplies, however, their caravans keep getting liberated by unlawful people. Kieran was not currently in favor with his father, nullifying the option to pay for mercenaries to deal with the problem. Nor was he an skilled enough swordsman to take on the task himself.

Being the son of a noble with the proper education meant he could survive should any one person attacked. However, that was the extent of his abilities. Yet, Kieran could not let the village suffer without assistance. Thus he began to make the trek for them, with the last of their coin. The nobleman was going to buy their supplies and deliver them himself. It was pre planned to have a group of men from the village to meet half way in about four days, right about the area where the attacks usually happen.

Many times, things do not go according to plan. Before he even got to the city, hooligans took everything, short of the clothing on his back. In return, Kieran felt searing white hot pain blossoming across his abdomen. The dagger was abandoned as he was left to die. It was pulled out with a grunt, a hand pressed against the wound, trying to keep the hot crimson liquid from escaping. While the failure he has been to the village threatened to drown him, Kieran knew that to repay them required his survival. For that, the young noble needed a healer.

By the time he made it to the city, his feet felt like lead, struggling to keep upright as he stumbled over each step. Kieran’s vision blurred and darkened dangerously for a second. Forcing one foot forward, blinking to clear his vision, he pushed forward. Someone was trying to guide him, another grabbed his arm to help hold him up. A door was opened, and Kieran lost hold of it all. Instantly his world was black as his body crashed in the entrance of the shop. Hair was plastered to his forehead, blood soaked most of his clothing and coated his hands, and his skin pale despite being sun kissed.
