The arrival at Mamlak was met with astonishment as the young elf took in all the sights around him. Despite having a few similar with his home, including having some of this kingdom built around mountains, this place was a far cry from the how Endapano intoned with nature. Pulling his hood up, Baeleth couldn’t get over how many statues of lions were around- apparently its sacred animal or something to his understanding.  It was so strange and yet though he was captivated by the unknown, he wasn’t here to sightseeing. No, the other inquisitors had assigned him to locate and retrieve a large precious ruby stone that had been stolen from one of the upper high households. Apparently the humans involved thought that they were clever enough to masquerade as ambassadors and lie their way into the house.

This wasn’t merely a case of thievery; no those fools had done something that had pushed the elvish nobles over the edge and now they were screaming for retribution in the worse manner. It had been a family heirloom over generations, rumors saying that it was in their possession even before the humans had thrown them out of their original kingdoms. He had been picked to return the gem before bloodshed was to come and the kingdoms would be drawn into a stupid war.

Knowing how humans could be, they suspected that they would be trying to sell it as quickly as possible, so Baeleth had to start checking around the bazaar before it got sold off and lost forever. He had to keep up his disguise for the time being else the perpetrators would surely get anxious from seeing a elf snooping about. So he started searching each marketplace, one by one. He wouldn’t stay too long if he didn’t spot the ruby right away and moved on to the next. His ears were also open to the shouts of shopkeepers bragging about their sales and specialties, though one in particular caught his attention.

“A treasure crafted and gifted by the elves themselves! Come and see this exotic masterpiece!”

“Not shy and fool. Admirable traits”, he sighed to himself as he headed in the general location of the shouting, leading himself to a corner where a flimsy crafted stand resided. Two men stood behind it as they sought out more attention while having a large bundle of something wrapped up in a series of cloths. Baeleth expected for it to be that of the stone, but for the time being he chose to instead observe the other markets. Or at the very least pretend to while he kept a close eye out on that particular one.
