It was not like Serafina to worry. Normally, she felt that everything would be within her control, and that events would unfold as she saw fit. With the new humanoid insect invaders, however, that feeling of control that she normally had was most certainly gone, and she was not entirely sure how to handle it. One small comfort came in the fact that Xerxez was at her side, and as of late he had really taken a shine to embracing his true vaewolf nature. No longer was he constantly stubborn and combative (of course he still had his moments), though his sarcasm and strange sense of dark humor remained. Those were the things, Serafina thought, that had drawn her to him in the first place, and kept her intrigued day after day after day.
Under normal circumstances, Serafina would have been giddy with glee at the site before her - her mate, with a helpless man tied up for the taking - but now she only half paid attention, her eyes continually flickering toward the horizon as though she expected something terrible to take place at any moment. When Xerxez pulled away from his meal and approached her, she returned his kiss, swallowing the blood that he had transferred to her with only a small amount of attentiveness, a bit of the lifeblood dripping from the corner of her mouth. The lack of passion to her kiss had nothing to do with her mate, and everything to do with her trepidation about what was to come.
Before she responded to her mate’s questions on what threat the insects could truly pose, she slowly moved forward and sunk her fangs into the man’s exposed neck, feeding for a brief moment before pulling away. ”A typical insect to a wolf is nothing, my love, but these are not typical insects. These insects killed the Reaper - and I’ll have you know, she is one of two gods that I am actually fearful of,” she added. With a pause and a sigh, she took another brief drink from their prey. ’They killed Death, Xerxez. What are a couple of immortal vaewolves to those that can kill the ultimate Immortal?” she asked. She stepped away from both Xerxez and the prey, placing a hand on her forehead while deep in thought. ”I cannot say what will come, but know that I will not intentionally be lost to you,” she said.
”As much as I hate the majority of the wretched creatures in Revaliir, we cannot let some pests wipe us out of existence,” she said, her teeth clenched slightly. A bit of color had returned to her cheeks, and it was clear that she was starting to amp herself up for a coming battle. ”We will fight them, and we will rip their wings from their backs. We will destroy them,” she said, rushing to Xerxez’ side and pressing herself against him, wrenching his face down towards hers to meet in a violent crashing of their lips. When she pulled away, she had her telltale devilish glint to her eyes. ”Question is, do we let ourselves be instructed by Lokir and Shiloh, the gods who claim to run this particular battle? Or do we venture on our own and take our chances together, my love?”
