Undine gave him a rather satisfied look. “Of course you wouldn’t… If you were well I wouldn’t be here with you right now.” An almost silent gasp left her lips as he nipped at her. A smirk was clear on her face as he grabbed her and flipped their positions. His bed was soft and plush against her back as she looked up at him. “No, you’re right this bed is quite warm.” She ran her hands up and down his arms.

Once they were truly done the two of them closed their eyes for some sleep. Undine was curled up into him with her head on his chest. She looked rather peaceful for a creature that could destroy islands at a time.

When the time had come to wake up Undine was startled awake by one of Sol’s men coming into the room. She let out a hiss. “My lord we’re here.” It took several minutes for Undine to settle down as she kept her eyes firmly planted on the door. She pulled herself from his warmth and slipped out of the bed without much of a word as she dressed herself and headed up on deck to look at the island coming into view. The dock was small so they would have to take a smaller boat to the shore.

Her eyes narrowed a bit. “Soon…” Undine waited for Sol to meet her on the deck before she held out her hand to him. “I’ll show you the beauty of my ways today.” Her fingers stretched and wiggled as she waited for his hands. “and I’ll have back what is mine.”

Protect ourselves from ourselves.

Some would say that Sol’s biggest weakness was not knowing his limits. He carried on no matter what odds he faced, no matter the danger. He knew this to be true, but he couldn’t help himself. He had to keep on going, or what was the point of it all? He wouldn’t be bested like this, not like this. Undine’s words didn’t go unheard though and he kept it in the dark corners of his mind. But everything seemed to be on hold when they embraced. Had he wanted this? Sol was sure that he hadn’t in the beginning yet his body and slowly his mind gave into it. The more he embraced her, the more he could feel that her body wasn’t just a bit colder than his but also soft and succulent. They grew more fierce in time as he felt her hands undo the bits of clothing he still wore and instinctively he did the same with her clothes and his lips explored her body…

When the fire died down and they were coming down from their high, Sol was catching his breath as his chest heaved while she remained seated on him. For a good while, he was quiet as she spoke, only wishing to speak after she kissed him again. “So you sought me out for that cure? It doesn’t matter if you had or not- the deed has been done.” A part of him knew that she was somewhat right. Sol did feel less stressed from their tryst and perhaps she had sought it out for herself as well.

“And I suppose you expect the same from me…well I hadn’t lied to you yet nor will I after seeing what you are capable of. I have no time for lying to those working with me. The humans up there is a large exception. They don’t know of power, and only follow those with it." After some internal struggle, he brazenly moved up and nipped at the skin at the base of her neck. His hand firmly grasped at her hips before he moved to flipped their positions so that she was on the bed and he was over her. “Who says that we are done here? It is still quite a travel and I don’t think you will want to leave this warm bed just yet.” His lips dropped down her body before climbing back up and meeting with her lips.

Undine thought about it and she tilted her head. “Maybe.” It wasn’t an answer but more of a deflection as her fingers slightly curled. “However, word of the wise Sol… Sometimes we have to protect ourselves from ourselves. We’re our own greatest enemy and that isn’t just a saying.” She could see him in the future tearing himself limb from limb as he tried to get what he wanted. It wasn’t her place to stop him but merely try and push him where to go. You could lead a horse to water but that didn’t mean he would take a drink. Sol was prideful even now. Even if he said he lost his pride it was still there and she could see its fire.

The sea witch was pleased with his kiss as she pressed a smile against him just before the kiss broke. Though before she could play a little game with him she found him to be most appetizing. Undine gave him that much force back as her fingers moved along his chest now seeing just how far he would let her get. When he didn’t stop her she continued forward. Her lips moved from his to his neck as she disrobed him and he did the same to her.

They ended in a sitting position Undine still firmly straddled against him. Her arms around him, as she gave tender kissed from his lips to his neck once more. Her face nuzzled his own as she took a breath for what felt like the first time since they started. “Now doesn’t that feel better?” Her voice purred a bit as she thought. “The best cure for stress… is another person.” One of her hands let her fingers slide down his arm with an almost ghost-like touch as she kissed his lips firmly once more. "And yes, the same coin. I would not deceive you Sol. On the contrary, I will be very honest with you whenever you ask me something. I promise you that much. It's not in my nature to lie and cheat my way through life. I merely just as exist as I am."

Sol wasn’t one that believed in love, or the mere concept of it between two people. Whether it was from his scorned nature or his pride, he didn’t fall for such a trap at any point of his life. He listened to Undine’s sad tale as she admitted that it was by her own folly and mistrust that allowed the man that she sought to destroy to use and betray her. He did pity her for the strife she had to deal with in the end, though her vengeance would be sated before tomorrow’s sunrise. At least she had settled down, which calmed his own nerves. The last thing he wanted was for his ship to be destroyed and him being stranded at sea.

“Vengeance may not be able to do all of that, but it will be enough for me. That much I can swear to you.” Sol was determined to keep focus and achieve his goals. What came afterwards was of little matter to him as long as he regained his pride. Perhaps Undine would prove him right in the end, but until then he would remain steady on his path. It wasn’t hard to tell that she was getting far too comfortable in this compromising situation they were in yet he didn’t make a move against it. “All I have left is the shambles of pride in me. I will not think of if I can’t get it back. I will, I have to.” His head turned slightly away from her, “It’s the only thing I truly have left. To admit defeat, I would rather die a thousand times.” His father, siblings, anyone in general- he refused to let anyone or anything stand in his way. He turned back and listened more, his fingers ceasing in drumming and now his whole hand was pressed against her back now. The cooling touch of her was warming up, mainly due to his own work.

“I have no problem in that department- I only wish for a few, real things. Love was never one of them.” Much to the ire of many in Abed; it wasn’t hard to see that he was a divine creature and he had made use of it quite a few times. But aside from carnal needs, he didn’t wish for an emotional connection with another. It seemed like a waste of time and from her experiences, could be used against him in the end as well. “Is that why you are here, in my bed? To warn me as to guard my heart?” He couldn’t understand her, but that was par for the course honestly. Her movements, every single one, seemed planned out and she followed it piece by piece. He wasn’t too sure what her angle was.

“Of the same coin…” He blinked and would have finally risen from the bed had she not lowered herself further onto him. Sol wasn’t like his brothers as they were seduced by Undine’s sisters and he wasn’t looking to repeat their histories. “Do you think we are of the same coin as well?” Perhaps he got his answer in the kiss she gave him; it was much different from the last one in that it was just a demonstration. His inner thoughts was to break this…thing, whatever this was, off. His body, on the other hand, didn’t quite get that message and he felt his own lips drawn to hers. Her lips tasted like that of the seawater and his other hand found itself to the back of her head. The one on her back slipped upwards and he struggled to keep what control he did had. “Why are you here?”, Sol managed to breathe out, not sure if he honestly cared about the answer really before he pulled her into a more forceful kiss.

Undine mulled his question over as she thought back to those many years ago. To the things that made up her nightmares and her dreams. Her eyes were lulling back and forth for a moment trying to decide how much to tell him. It was a very deep thought. “I loved him.” This was the start of her tale. “He had no idea what I was and I was okay with that. Not many men would love a creature like me knowing what I do to sailors.” That was the smart thing to do. Even Sol didn’t initially want to get involved with her. “Steele’s Eldora had come to me and told me that I was being reckless… That dead men told better tales than the one I was writing. I didn’t want to believe her. Eldora’s visions are mostly correct and she doesn’t go out of her way often to tell others their fortune.”

There was a sad look on her face. “But I didn’t believe her when I met him. All the sea wants is to be loved for who it is and I am the same way. I hid what I was out of fear and I was still naive enough to think people wouldn’t notice someone like me.” She played with his chest softly drawing circles with her fingers and moving on to other shapes. “We saw each other every day for a year. A year.” She reaffirmed the time frame just for herself. “Nothing seemed wrong. One day he took me by the hand and led me down to the pier and I knew something was off… By the time I realized what had happened I was in a stranglehold and mana locked. He took the necklace from me as they tore me away from the land.” There was a sad look on her face. “Called me a monster and said he had known the whole time… Had been biding his time to be able to capture me at the right moment.”

Her fingers stopped their movement and she tilted her head. “That’s how he took it. The shock to my soul was enough to paralyze me from fighting. I was heartbroken but heartbreak often turns into anger. Eldora got me off that ship and I went on a rampage for days as I regained my strength. Sunk a few islands off the coast but Father put me to sleep and took me to the bottom of the ocean to slumber. Away from the men who would hunt me and kill me. Away from the pain that the man had caused.” She gave a soft smile now as she thought about it. “I never loved anyone before that man. I was born broken and falling into madness. I had my blood ripped from me and stitched back together into a sea spirit. I was always destined to be miserable at least that’s what I tell myself. For all the power in the world, it can’t buy me happiness. Fear is not love.”

Her voice had been soft for the first time since they had met. Her anger was null as she laid there thinking about everything. “I may get back what was stolen but… a part of me will be gone forever, Sol.” Just like him. “Vengeance doesn’t soothe all wounds I am afraid.”

There was a soft chuckle from her lips as she studied his face. “You are quite prideful.” It was a dangerous thing to be as prideful as Sol but maybe that was why his father took it away. “Sol, if you cannot get back what you lost… What will you do?” Her eyes flickered to his for a moment. “If he is so hellbent on keeping it away from you… what if you never get it back?” It wasn’t the same as her necklace… This was so much more.

“The most dangerous creatures in existence are those that can smile and hide the devil inside. That’s what my father told me. He spoke about my mother as such.” She inhaled his scent from where she was and closed her eyes as she tilted her head. “Your heart is the most precious thing you have. Guard it well and it will protect you through the terrors of life. Treat it poorly and you will have wished you didn’t have one, to begin with.” Her hand moved to his heart as she felt it beating within his chest. “All things can love but sometimes it is foolish to give it to the first person who pays you any mind. No matter how much one longs for the affection of another it is dangerous to just give it away.”

It was a different kind of conversation they were having. It was deep and calm which was odd for Undine who always seemed to rage so easily. The atmosphere seemed heavy as her head nuzzled against his. “We are a lot alike Sol. Fire can be just as calm as it can be destructive and water is no different from it. A wildfire will burn a path until it runs out of fuel and an ocean will toss and turn until there’s no longer a pull. They are the same coin.” Her hands moved up as her body lowered more onto his her hands cupping his face as her thumb gently caressed his dark skin. A caught breath left her lips now as she exhaled. The siren moved down and placed a kiss onto his lips, a sort of test against him to see his wants.

The woman hadn’t been as brash as she was being right this moment- her rage gave into a completely different emotion, or a wave of them at least. While he could barely call what she was now “calm”, he wouldn’t argue against it. After all, there would likely be one less ship in the whole if she was truly angry. “Fine, but as I said before, it will all end soon and he will be no more.” What he wasn’t prepared for was her breaking down from expressing what it was that man had robbed her off. A power artifact it must have been from her description and somehow it was found in the hands of the deceiver. As if just making some coin off of her wasn’t enough. Truly a folly of the mortals and their damn selfishness.

Sol watched her, trying to figure out what he could be using such a powerful tool for when he looked bewildered once she kissed him. What in the hell? But he relaxed a bit when she was using it to prove a point, as funny as it sounded. “This Heart of the Deep…how did he manage to take it from you?” His eyes lowered towards her hand upon his chest, her other playing with his hair. He couldn’t really understand her ebb and flow of emotions other than she was akin to the sea in indeed. One moment, it could be calm and peaceful, the next being violent and dangerous. She seemed to be tethering on that fine line and he was the one that it seemed directed towards. “He could have took it because he wanted to sell it or…as twisted as it sounds, have a part of you for himself. I figure you could ask him in person, if he still draws enough breath when you reach him that is.”

What more, she had said that she was stronger with the jewelry, and given her strength as is with the water magic as well as being intune with the sea, he would have shuttered to think of what would come should she be reunited. At least now he understood why she was so pissed. “And when you end him, you will likely get back what was stolen. I, on the other hand, have a much more difficult task to get back what was mine. My essence was taken from me, my “pride” so to speak. In these parts of the world, do you know what I was called?” He stretched and grew more comfortable in his position, letting her play around with him at her leisure. It would be a first- he was hardly one to let someone venture too close to him. Sol was like fire- the closer someone got, the more likely they were of getting burned. Not that Undine seemed to have cared, lest she wouldn’t be here. “I was called the Prideful Lion of Abed. I had powers that allowed me to stand as a mighty force in the realm of demons, and I had legions of followers in the city. But my own father plucked it away, in a painful manner to teach me a lesson. The essence was placed into another and that’s why I fought against them and why I was locked away in the end.” As he spoke, he traced his fingers lightly against the center of her back nonchalantly. He had his own anger masked in his voice, but it was more of frustration than anything else. At himself for losing his power and the battle, at his father for stripping his strength away and for the damned sibling that his power succeed to.

“As dangerous as you are, you are no monster.” His solemn expression has not wavered, but he spoke the true at least in his mind. “People just paint those like ourselves to be that because they don’t want to look in the mirror and admit that about themselves. That captain…your associate in the islands…they were the very thing my father warned me about back when we were on speaking terms. It is one of the few things I will heed from him.” His fingers continued to drum against her, his warming body felt her cold form pressing down against it, stealing away some of the heat he normally built up, but not completely. He barely noticed it before, but now, he just seemed…warm. Not blazing like a small inferno, but just warm.

He started to speak to her and he stopped. Her blue eyes were drilling into him as she spoke. Relax? She knew how but this was eating her at her core. She took a deep breath as she gripped the pillows more at him. “I am controlling myself,” it left her lips coldly as she glared down at him now. “If I wasn’t you are right there wouldn’t be a ship. It’s why I retreated by myself until I was calm.” This was calm? Hardly but it was better than the rage she had before.

“He took my heart.” The words were broken from her lips. “Not my actual heart but he might as well have. It is a precious necklace formed by the hottest depths of the ocean. A shimmering heart of hardened sea brine. It looks like a sapphire in the sunlight but in the darkness, it shines like the volcano in which it was formed. It is a one of a kind necklace gifted from the Sea King to his daughter. Capable of water magic that rivals even the most talented sea folk.” Tears formed on the side of her eyes now as she thought about it.

“He took it so easily.” Her fingers released his pillows as she came down to him and put her lips to his. “Like a stolen kiss.” Her words were soft now. Her fingers entangled in his hair now as she watched his strands of hair slip through her fingers. “My most prized possession. The Heart of the Deep.” Her other hand held her up just a bit as she caressed his face before sliding down his chest. “It can control a variety of different things such as emotions, the toll of the sea, and most importantly my conduit of power. While I am strong I am not as strong as I could be with it. I wonder if that is why he took it from me.”

He could see the spark in her ignited into a wicked flame of motivation. He had been…incorrect in assuming that she was without direction in her life. No, there was plenty of vengeance that seeped from her form. He understood well how betrayal can fuel a person’s wraith, and more importantly, their will to undo the crime by any means necessary. “They will, in the end. Survival of the fittest will be but a test for all to face. And the unworthy ones will be snubbed out.” He led her back to the their ship and he left her be to her own devices. The crew had their orders to go where she directed, he merely needed to confirm it, if necessary. But the threat of death did well to make them obedient.

As they parted, he retired to his chambers and readied himself for bed. It was the same ritual as it had been the last few days. He laid on his back as he waited for slumber to take its course, and in a matter of time, he felt Undine’s presence in the room. It wasn’t something odd, nor was it when she climbed into his bed. Aside from the chilling presence she gave, it did nothing to disturb him. Her words, however, caused him to peek over to her side. “The debt will be…”, he started but then Undine moved over him and stared right at her, a bit surprised at her forcefulness.

Her being upset, he was used to, but this? It seemed the more they explored this touchy little subject of hers, the worse her temper seemed to flare up. And when that happened, the ocean took it out on them and the ship. “You should relax. In a matter of hours, it will all be over one way or another.” Perhaps his words would only set her temper off more, and he silenced himself. Not out of fear, but out of thinking this through logically.

“I was mistaken earlier. You are spirited and motivated by a goal after all. But as much as you are angry right now, you must control yourself until that time. Else there won’t be a ship heading over to those islands like you wish for. ”

“Now, what is it exactly that he had stolen from you when he betrayed you? I too know was it’s like to have something robbed from you, something a part of me had been taken so long ago and I will get it back.”

Undine stared up at Sol for a good long time as the ship burned around them. “I want nothing more than to drown the weak especially since its the weak who think they can talk big.” There was a fire in her eyes as she spoke. This was a pet peeve she had as she took Sol away from the ship. They climbed back on board his vessel and she wrung out her hair as she stared at everyone. Her temper was hot as she growled at them.

The siren was quick to go below deck to where her chambers were. The wound on her chest was still pulsating as it slowly healed. Once the seas settled from her wrath she emerged from her chambers dressed. “Set a course for the northernmost islands. I know where he is. Just watch the barrier reefs to the east…” Her tone was dark as she found Sol afterward.

A monster couldn’t love. That’s what she had said but she wasn’t a monster before he made her one. Her eyes flashed to Sol as she looked around his space some more. Undine slipped into his bed where the demon laid and curled up next to his warmth. He was sure to notice her as she was a tad bit on the cold side.

“I am going to make this death look like art compared to the last one. If his family is lucky I will spare them since they were not the one to give me ill will.” Her blue eyes stared into his eyes. They were full of anger. “I am not a cruel creature but dues must be paid in blood.” This was forty years in the making as she moved herself over him. “And I will have what is mine come hell or high water… and he better have it or I will hoist him above this ship with his guts out and still alive until I find it.” There was venom leaving her lips. “I have no love for people who abuse me and he will get my harshest treatment.” Her fingers were more like claws as she gripped the pillows by Sol’s head.

A few rough breaths left her lips as she calmed down. She could feel the sea swelling just by her own emotions. “I set the ship’s course to the islands where he is. I know where this place is.” She knew it was well.

Sol could care less if she hunted for substance or for sport, at least at this particular moment. These men need to see that they were but mere mortals firsthand. The devil would be in the details and he had hoped that before they fade to black forever that they would learn this utmost important lesson. He hated fools like this captain fellow- thinking that they were al high and mighty without knowing what true power was.

Sol didn’t bother to mask his pleasure of incinerating his men at his leisure. Blood and smoke could be smelled all over the deck, the sea air filled with succulent screams from the crew as the massacre continued onward. He would leave Undine with her sought out prey. For his taste, the man talked to bloody much- another aspect that he loathed from the powerless. He slipped up and gave her the information that might have kept him alive for a few moments longer, but it was hardly a surprise that she took him out when he criticized her for her feelings.

“I don’t pity you”, he spat out at the captured man before she went to work on systematically destroying his form in the most gruesome manner possible. All the while, he looked around at the charred corpses and the burning ship. The captain was finally silenced, thank the gods and he turned to face Undine.

“I find this amusing, to be honest. Not in your tragedy, mind you. But in all of this. I want to see the world burn and be ripped apart like that man and this ship.” There was a deep smile curled up on his lips as he knew that he could use such power at his disposal. But unlike this Aarav person, he wouldn’t be stupid enough to use her like he had. Sol took her hand, “For now, I will follow and watch you do as you please.”

Author: Undine, Posted: Sun Jul 1, 2018 7:18 PM, Post Subject: Over the Sea [p,r]

“Aye, he’s the leader.” That look he carried hadn’t changed since the last time Undine was awake. If anything it made her glare more intense as the vivid memories fueled a rage deep in her.

The leader backed up a bit at Sol’s advance. “Doesn’t she hunt for sport? Doesn’t she go overboard? The rumors of Undine the Sea Witch have spread for the better part of two centuries. The stories were sporadic and she disappeared on and off over those two hundred years. You know the glory that got brought to me just from having her on my ship? Just from taking some of her scales? That’s a legendary monster you got with you.”

“Enough,” Undine’s voice raised. Sol was on the move as he started to dispatch several of the men on board. Their screaming made her smirk as she began to walk across the ship. “Where is he?” There was a rough growl from her lips as the captain pulled out a sword towards her. The tip to her chest as she pressed it closer. Blood started to flow but her blue eyes were drilling into the captain’s eyes. “Where is he?”

“I’m not about to let the greatest catch go… but if you want to know where Aarav I will tell ya. He still does work for me once in a while. Off the coast of Abed, there is a small chain of islands. He has his family on one of them.” That caused a twitch of not being pleased from Undine. “Oh, you thought… You thought he loved you didn’t you?”

“A creature like me knows no love.” She swatted the sword away as it cut into her chest and she was quick as she jumped on the man. Her horrid mouth revealed as she bit into his neck and shoulder. The man screamed as he tried to get her off but in her hand was the scales as she threw them into a torch nearby. “And now I’m going to show you no mercy just like a monster.” There was a hiss from her as she dismantled him bit by bloody bit. His screams turned into gargling and eventually, they stopped as she dropped body parts from her hands. Her blue eyes didn’t look amused with his death. “That was too fast for a creature like yourself.”

She moved over the ashes and looked up at Sol. The water would get rid of the blood that was coating her body but she held out her hand. “It’s time for them to die now… You can do it if you wish… or I can… but first, we need to leave. And then after this… I need to make a trip to a farm." Her blood was boiling and once again the sea was upset just by her presence. "I want what's mine."

“Not particularly.”

Sol had far better things that warranted his concern than the singing of the ocean, but he let the subject change. There was some work to do, and time was passing them by the longer they went to discuss these things.

He wasn’t too surprised to see that Undine recognized a bunch of the mangled mermaids. Apparently, these pirates made their life work out of her friends, and she was lucky to get out alive. But from the state of the deceased, death would have been a blessing. As annoying as it was, they were soon discovered by one of the men up on deck. “Well, I guess mercy’s only a word”, he muttered, his intention now clear for the one that he had spared. Killing him wouldn’t haunt him in his sleep, but it was a pity. Then again, could one really trust a demon like Sol?

“I’m guessing he is the leader?” Sol merely watched the interaction between the two and started to flex his fingers anxiously. He anticipates a fight, and that was one of his key weaknesses- when he sensed a remote chance to fight, he would be ready to dive right in.

Too many words were exchanged for his liking as he looked around, seeing how much of the crew were actually around them. One thing that came to his attention was the mentioning of her being a monster. Sol’s eyes shot out at the pirate and held a cruel look upon him. “Animal…beast…monster, is it?” He slowly started to walk towards, no fear lingered in each step he took. “We are all monsters, but you and those like you think you are different. That you are ‘civilize’ and you beret those that only act in their nature.”

A pearly smile formed as he drew closer, the air around him was suffocating with the increasing heat that poured from his body. “You hunt for sport, and yet you call her an animal?” He would prefer to burn this ship to ashes with the crew being swept by the ocean itself…but perhaps he would settle for a few of them. His eyes then shifted over to the man they had talked to previous, the betrayer. He teleported over to his direction and taking a quick inhale, his breath shot out in the form of a bright flame that consumed the screaming ruffian before pushing him overseas. “Anyone else wants to dance? They will end up like him.” It was clear that he was releasing his restraints, which wasn’t a good thing at all for any of them.

“Illusion or not I was happy for a time. The sea was peaceful and I was never angry. The sea sings when it is happy… Did you know that? The sound it makes is magical.”

They were on their way soon as they went up through the hole. “Of course,” she said as she looked around. There were a few faces she knew. “These… I know them. Friends you could say if I had any. True Maidens of the sea. Good women.” It made her angry but she kept her temper down as they moved up the stairs. “I was once tied to one of those tables. Forced to endure what they had been.”

She quieted down as they caught one of the pirates. She made an amused face as Sol did what she assumed he did best. Right now he did it better than she did. She nodded a bit before they went up on deck. Her eyes grew a bit larger as an older elvish looking man turned to them up on deck. “I was wondering when your beautiful would grace my deck once more. You don’t change, do you? If anything you become more appetizing the more I look at you. It’s shame you were sold for such a small price. I would have paid ten times the amount I gave that Lloyd fool.”

Undine bit her lip hard so she wasn’t enticed to try and fight him there and now. On the pirate vest was a patch of midnight blue and golden scales much like Undine. “You wear me like an animal.”

“Because you are an animal. He sold you because he found out that you were a monster. Monsters are there to be hunted. For forty years I tried to look in every nook and cranny of Abed to find out where you went.”

Her blood began to boil. “I wasn’t in Abed. I was someplace far, far away. Where nasty dirty mermaid hunters won’t go.”

“My dear don’t put yourself in the same category of creature as a mermaid. It was your bloody nature that made you wind up on my ship… Did you tell your friend this?” The pirate motioned towards Sol. “The animal that you are? The murderer? You should be put down like the beast you are and maybe even stuffed so I can show all of my friends my greatest hunt.”

Sol took a deep breath and latched his eyes onto her. Well, at least he was starting to grasp just why she was so vexed. It was…understandable. Then again, the greed of people ran deep, nothing really had changed in that aspect since his imprisonment. His arms folded against his chest and he nodded as he listened more and more to her tale. Her revenge ran deep into her blood it seemed- a trusted one fooled and stole from her and these pirates tried to maim her back then.

“Trust and love…I find one to be a complete illusion and the other, well it can be real but wary to give.” Perhaps in time, he would be able to trust others, but love? That was out of the question. “I suppose that we should handle this problem.”

He didn’t have time to think of a plan as Undine dragged him into the sea, fortunately also giving him a means to breath as they swam over to the pirate ship. After they boarded it, he looked towards the now repaired spot of the hull and shook his head. “We should be having company shortly.” He felt drenched but otherwise, no harm done. His attention turned and was appalled by the sight of butchery. He’s seen the many faces of evil with people, but this was one of the worst seen yet. Sol was familiar with death and casualties, but this wasn’t done in war or a necessary killing. It was sickening, and he could feel himself on the verge of letting it out, but he found his grounding and followed her up the stairs.

Sure enough, one of the pirates were sent to investigate and immediately Sol grabbed him and covered his mouth. “You scream…” Sol stated as his touch started to burn him slight. He could here the mumbling of pain from him before ceasing. “And you will get more, got it?” He nodded at him before the hand was released slightly. “Talk, where’s your captain?”

“He’s up above the deck.”

“Good, so you will report that nothing happened and you can all carry on. If you do this, then perhaps you may live to see another day… “ Hesitantly, the man rushed back up and Sol followed a good distance behind. “That should buy us some time… even if he does betray us. Just one more body for the grave as far as I care.“

“They are Abedian Pirates… an ancient order of sorts. Think of it like a pirate hierarchy in this area. Every pirate from here to Karith follows any order the pirate lord says. They don’t have a name perse but a flag that everyone in these waters can identify. Their main source of revenue in recent years has been in the spike of demand in mermaid scales. Obviously, we are hard to catch and we are even more to contain so they use methods to get ahold of us. Once they have a hold of you they dry you out like a fish fry using the sun and a little water to keep you from transforming back. Not all mermaids are like me… I have learned to transform at will but my sisters are different. Then they take a device that plucks the scales and pull them out one by one… It’s agonizing. It’s painful.” Her fingers scratched at her legs a bit.

“It’s humiliating. What the men do to the women are worse but I escaped before then. The person who sold me out I want to know where he is so I can gut him like a fish. If it hadn’t been for my sister Eldora knowing something was wrong… She only showed up because it hurt her too. She didn’t finish the job. I went out of control and the next thing I knew I was waking up leagues under the sea to my father watching me slumber. Telling me it had been forty fucking years since my rage.”

She kept her power balanced as she looked at Sol. “I was in love once. With an elven man who was a sailor at sea. Sold me he did. To a group of pirates for a measly fifteen hundred silver. He took what was mine and handed me off. I was in so much shock that I had no chance to fight back before they nullified my magic. That’s why I want to rip them to shreds. That’s why I want my answers so we can kill them. As for sneaking on the ship I have a damn good idea.”

It took them a little bit but she used her magic to give him breath as they went under the sea. They managed to get in close to the other ship before she directed him to a weak spot in the hull. Once a hole was made she sealed it up easily. The stench of death was all around them. “This is their workshop…”

Bodies of dead mermaids were around them. Jars of scales and even tapestries formed from them. It was empty of people for now because everything there was dead and salvaged. “We should make our way up.”

As annoying as it could be, Sol allowed for her to stay at his side like a puppy did with its master. He was positive that he couldn’t talk her out of it and since she wasn’t bothering him, there was a lack of worrying about it. He’d work and she would be there, just as much as when he slept. Slowly he grew more eased with her presence though he wasn’t a fool to trust her completely. He didn’t allow that much for anyone.

It wasn’t until days later when he was mapping out the underbelly of Abed, according to one of his more trusted cultist’s knowledge, that his gaze lifted up towards the man that burst into his room. Undine, who was on a sofa, seemed like she knew who’s ship that was. Unfortunately, he knew this from both her tone as well as the ocean’s reaction resonance with her emotions. “Undine, calm yourself, girl”, he spoke sternly as he put his quill down and stood up. “Who are they?”

Perhaps it was all part of that secret she had vaguely spoken off a while back. He couldn’t imagine her being this upset over anything else. “Fine. Then we’ll just sneak into their ship somehow. Do you have any sort of ideas?” Sol would prefer to keep her under control, no matter what. And if he had to deal with them, then it would be like dealing with something that was in the way of his goals. But wasn’t that what they were doing, even if it was indirect? “Your magic might not work, but I’m fairly sure that mine will. They won’t have anything to protect them from my wrath”, he said, letting a smile curl up. “I want to know what’s the deal with them soon, however. I don’t care when you tell me, but I think I should know just why this particular group of pirates irks you the most.”

That had been the first night of many that she would crawl into his bed and wrap herself around him. It became a common occurrence. Nothing more would happen and nothing less. It was just as she said it was. He was a source of heat just like the sun was. The sun was more dangerous for her though she kept herself soaking if she wasn’t needed.

Undine was rather sluggish the next few days. She was never far from Sol. Asleep on a sofa near him or watching him work. Her own mind was plotting heavily even if it didn’t look like it. Her blue eyes softly danced over his work as she pulled the blanket against her more.

“Lord Sol, a ship approached with a pirate’s flag. It looks to have a griffin sku–” his cultist was cut off as Undine flung up.

“With a snake coming through?” It was more of a hiss as the waters got rough. The cultist was imbalanced but Undine caught him as the waters quieted. “I’ll fucking torture them all. Very. Very. Slowly.” There was a roar that came from her lips as she looked at Sol. “I need you to come with me. My magic isn’t going to work on them.” Her voice was so dark as she let the man go. “Keep the vessel at a distance. Reverse if we have to. I can’t protect us from that ship. They have my scales. Which works more like a repellent of my magic abilities. They also have information that I need. Otherwise, I would ask you to blow them up here and now."

He suppose that she would know more about this group she wanted revenge on so badly. Still, if she knew about their location, she would have already took care of her business, but Sol wasn’t too sure that she did. “Information?” What sort of knowledge would she require from him? About demonic magic? About the world around them? Sol could probably indulge the magic part, but certainly not this brave new world they were in. Hell, if anything, he would be the one asking Undine about that.

The days after went by slowly as he plotted his return to Abed in time. He had to regain his footing and recruit more for his sinister cause. At times, he would let Undine go do her own her thing as long as she didn’t get too out of control or if it involved his men. Normally he would know by the state of the ocean whether or not she was out of hand. Fortunately it didn’t seem to happen, or at least not too often. Even with the ship wrecks, they served to save him both time and energy. It did make things easier in the long run as well, letting him plot longer.

When he had retired retired to his bed, Sol hadn’t planned on another to take to it as well. The cold night didn’t faze him as his body heat was easily able to repel it away. Sol had started to inch his way to slumber when he felt someone climb into his bed and merely turned enough to see who had the audacity. It wasn’t much of a shock to see it was Undine there, though he wasn’t one for distracts. “Why are you here?”, he grumbled before rolling his eyes. Of all the people abroad, of course he would have to be chosen. He was also too tired to fight with her over this. She was damn persistent, for the lack of a better term for it. That, and he knew that he would be able to warm her up unlike the rest of the people here. Yawning, he merely looked at her before he closed his eyes.

“They aren’t human… A group like them would not disappear so easily.” She watched his smoke but kept it to herself. Something seemed to irk them in their conversation and it was noted for later.

“To use each other to the best of our abilities or even for you to use me. Knowing each other is the optimal solution. I don’t plan on leaving nor getting in your way. I will be using you for information as much as you will be using me.”

Time and fun went slowly for Undine. Often she would watch the waves and only very seldom would she go on the hunt or would she move. There were times when a low whistle would leave her lips and something in the distance would sink. Not every ship was met with this but the ones she deemed a problem were. She was very good at picking out the bad apples and very seldom was she wrong.

It happened a few nights in when Undine could not get warm. Something was bothering her bones. Something was making her skin prick up. The people on board this vessel were scared of her and for good reason. She often emerged from the water bloody and it was very clear what she had been doing. As beautiful as she was she was a terror. So she made her way through all the doors into Sol’s chamber that night. She was quiet as she slipped into the bed and up next to Sol.

The question would come and she would bat her eyes at him. “The ship is very cold right now.”

Undine’s cryptic words didn’t move Sol into believing hern fully. The way she carried on with her sinful life, he could have easily mistaken her for one of his more favored siblings, at least in the eyes of the father they were such. Did she wish to win a war against those that made the sea their business? It would be an unyielding fight the way she carried herself in killing random pirates and sailors. Why the whole thing was laughable, but he didn’t find it so funny. All that power in the world at her fingertips and it was a shame that she would waste time like that.

“Your family business is yours. I care not for these brothers of mine unless they stand in my way”, he said dryly. He hadn’t cared back when Steele was a young boy; in fact, he took advantage in his father’s attention turned towards him and the girl that was born first among the sins and struck when the time was right. He was so close, yet in the end, he was defeated and it still angered him so. He allowed himself only a bit of his temper showing before he took a sharp, long inhale and breathed it out, a faint smoke seeping from his mouth. “You slept for quite some time; what makes you think that this group is still active? Are they human?”

“I highly doubt that we will know the other as well as you may think. I simply wish to complete my own set of goals. If you wish to hunt freely, so be it. You are no prisoner on here unless you get in my way.” Pouring some more wine, Sol did ponder about this treasure that she seemed so fixated towards, but it didn’t seem like she would be going after it anytime soon. “Just as your secrets are yours to keep. It matters not to me either way unless they in some fashion suit my own purpose.”

“There are other things that I can get my revenge in. Time will heal all wounds and I will feel much better in the end. But I am not ready to share my secrets with you all the way. I’m not ready to tell you how I tick. Never have I let a man in…” There was a glimmer of lie there but it was all part of her not letting him in for the moment. “When I am ready I will tell you what it is that I seek. You say I do not have a goal but my goal has been before us this whole time. It is a private goal and once I get what I want… I will set a new one.”

This goal was precious to her. She would not let anyone else ruin it. “Not even Father knows my secret.” It was only her. “To find out that my siblings and yours were responsible for my mother’s death. You could say I can live through them but at what cost? I have found that I had many siblings and not all of them have made it because of her. In the oceanic world, we honor those older than us. I threw Eldora because she wasn’t respecting the hierarchy of the sea but in truth… I could feel the power she had.” Undine shivered a bit. “If she realizes that she potentially has more power than I do I might just come to regret my little flex of power. Oracles are scary creatures even in the deep depths of the ocean. Still… My little sister has grown. The other one, Lotus, she has grown too. My siblings are all so powerful but young. It appears only the strong have survived the purge.”

She shrugged it off and thought more about it. “I will not fight every pirate but there is a group I want to destroy more than anything… It’s part of my secret.” Her fingers drummed on her skin as she crossed her arms now. “There is something I want that would help with it… but it’s part of my goal.” The sea calmed down and she walked away from him. “Something that was mine that was taken from me. In the coming time, I will tell you about my treasure and why it was taken from me.”

Her eyes lingered on him now. “You will come to find that I am wrathful for a reason and that I am not so much out of control as much as I am uncaring. I will care if only for you but everyone else will not be so lucky. As promised I will leave your crew alone but I will need to hunt away from the ship from time to time. I can eat regular food but I am better sustained on the flesh of man.”

"We will come to know each other well, Sol."

While he wasn’t fearful of many things, Sol was one that had to be a thinking man. Of course, there were things where he couldn’t hope to succeed in, at least for the time being. He wasn’t too pleased with learning that a Kraken would be following him, but it couldn’t be helped and he shrugged it off as he took to his wine.

He gave out a look when she mentioned their arrangement as being sort of a partnership. It wasn’t what he had in mind, but if it meant that she would be more receptive to his needs and demands, then surely he wouldn’t stop her from believing such a thing. “Water won’t be a problem, here or there.” His thoughts went into a container of sorts, one made from reinforced glass that could keep her aware of everything around her while keeping her secure. That could be made in the coming days on the mainland, he was sure of. Pouring himself another, he was oddly surprised to find her within arm’s length and laid her hands upon him. Sol’s eyes narrowed but he didn’t remove them off him right away. Her tell of woe didn’t fall completely on deaf ears, however. Nor did the power that the sea surged from her mood. After he had heard all she had to share, Sol closed his eyes and chuckled softly as he paced about. Hers seemed tied to her emotions, something that was expected from the denizens of the sea. It wouldn’t be wise to anger her.

“Power is a corrupter to all, especially those that were ignorant of it at the beginning like your mother. It is a shame though that you couldn’t extract your revenge. To never be able to satisfy yourself of that need, it must kill you at the time.” Despite the way it was coming off, he meant no malice beneath his tone. He too sought for revenge, though it wasn’t as personal as Undine’s had been. The worse that happened to him was being locked away for so long, having to stew over his failures and his father’s actions that mocked him so. But with power, they did greater differ- Undine was granted the power she had by her father, while Sol had the natural talent of his and was molded into using it.

“As long as there are humans that will love to pillar and destroy, there will be pirates. Sounds to me like you want to fight a never-ending war with them. Perhaps if you manage bits of your power at a time, your endurance could be improved instead of just waiting naturally for it. I’d fear that it only would take quite some time. But the first thing to do is to not linger on your mother anymore. She’s gone and thinking about her still only inhibits you from having more control.”

She knew that smile well. For all the care that her father had for her, there was none for anyone else. All that care for landwalkers had been washed away by Cyprus years ago. Still she said nothing and moved with him. “Very well then. As you wish.” For now. She was persistent if anything and she could bide her time wisely when not angry.

The men were much more gentle than she had anticipated which was much better for their health. She noticed the shy from Sol and smiled. “We’re at sea. In Abed. If we light the boat on fire we’ll be swarmed. Sea battle is my game and even I would lose if outnumbered.” Her voice was calm as she watched the ship. “The people out here are ruthless. Maybe it doesn’t mean much to you but to me it does. I’ll watch it all drown someday.” There was a nerve with this place. A bad memory perhaps.

As they sailed away she watched as the kraken took the ship down. “She’ll stay nearby… She always does.” Her blue eyes caught his motion and soon she was following him down. She wrinkled her nose at the alcohol but maybe it was because she had so few experiences with it. “A sort of partnership then?” She let her fingers slide across the furniture in his room. “I’ll need water if we go on land. Or if you need me to stay on the ship water here… I can fulfill the goals you want easily enough. See, only certain things make me lose control. Pirates, filthy sailors, broken promises, and my mother.”

Tilting her head at him she shrugged and a beautiful dark blue dancing outfit appeared on her. It was Abedian in its make. Which made sense for where her home was. It was detailed with gold. Her hair had fine shells in it that pulled back her brown hair. “I will let you know something about me… for this help.” Her eyes went to him. “The reason why I am so out of control.” She approached him and put her hands on his cheek. “Long time ago… There was an innocent princess who loved the sea. She would become queen of her court. She met a sea demon and fell into deep love with him. She had his child but something snapped in her. The power he gave her to be able to support this child in her womb. She wanted more of it. So when this child was small and frail she took the child to the jagged high cliffs of her home… She threw the child into the rocks and mangled the toddler. The sea demon in all his rage and agony asked her why she did this. Her reply was that what does a demon care for his spawn and that she sacrificed their child for more power. So he gave this child… This dying being that he loved half of his power and grew her into a woman. He purged her blood and made her a siren of the depths. That child now a woman climbed her way out of the sea and tried to murder her mother. Because of her inexperience, she missed. She carved the land with her will and the angry sea. It made her tired so she slept for a long time.”

Her eyes latched to his. The seas began to groan. “I fail to control myself because of the power within me. Because my wretched mother threw me to the ocean for something as petty as power. I am sad she is dead because if sh–” The seas got a bit rough around the ship and off steadied her. She began to take deep breaths as the anger cooled down. “If… she was alive I would kill her myself. I hate only a few things in this life… Her, pirates, filthy sailors, and broken promises. I lost so many years of my life because of all of these things. Forced to sleep so my rage wouldn’t destroy me. Now I am awake but I still do get tired… I still yearn for the destruction of everything I hate. My body isn’t a suitable vessel for four thousand-year-old magic but I do try.”

Author: Sol Norcross, Posted: Sun May 6, 2018 9:58 AM, Post Subject: Over the Sea [p,r]

Sol shook his head in distaste. For all that power she boasted, her body wasn’t capable of using it for extended periods of time, or so she said. Clearly he didn’t quite trust her; that much his father could be thanked for. Xunatar wasn’t a fool and he made sure that his own children wouldn’t fall for such folly among anyone, especially those that were aligned with them. Still, it wasn’t to say that she couldn’t be of much use.

“Oh you are right about loyalty. But I don’t aim to buy it.” He let a small, but sinister smile creep up. “There are many other things that I can do to make sure of that. Some of which you may know.” Manipulation…fear…torture, hell Sol would do absolutely anything to make sure that they blindly followed his commands without question and to die for him. “Never said you were a prisoner. Just that I will be looking after you, since you seen to be reckless on your own.”

The men took her carefully by the arms; she wouldn’t be a prisoner like she said, but being called a guest was far too kind. Sol lead the way off the abandoned vessel and waited for the others to follow suit. While he had preferred to simply set the damn thing on fire, Undine had other motives for it. Sighing, he signaled for the captain take off while her little pet did its business.

“Perhaps, but its none of my concern at the moment.” He cared very little over demon lords and their little titles. Even his father was among that list, but there was still the need to surpass him and go down the chosen path he picked eons ago. With a pair of fingers, he signaled her to follow him down into his cabin while the others went back to work. “It’s simple”, he spoke as he closed the door and poured himself a glass of one of Abed’s finest white wines. The sweet nectar slipped into his mouth in a few sips before settling the glass comfortably around his fingers. “Titles won’t be needed. You claim to be spawn of a powerful demon, as am I, but for the time being, I will give you a purpose. To serve me with those powers of yours. I have goals that need to be fulfilled, and you can aid me in them. Simple, is it not?”

He took another look at her and shook his head, "Also, for the sake of my men, we will need you dressed. Parading about naked simply won't do."

There was a small pout on her lips as the sailor went up in flames. It looked like it was done out of spite. “I could have told you that my love. The spirit of the temple is vast and mature but the temple itself is too young.” She brought up a hand and touched the side of her head. “My body can’t handle the power even if my mind is willing and able. So every once in a while,” there was a yawn from her lips. “I lose control… and then I get tired.” She rubbed the corners of her eyes trying to stay awake. “In the past, I was made to sleep. Forced to mature the temple which my soul was given to. If I had grown into this power it would have been different maybe.”

Realizing she was in a bit of a pickle Undine merely rolled her shoulders at him. “I don’t have anything better to do. Loyalty cannot be bought. It’s why I prefer fish to men.” Her eyes lingered over the cultists who were around her now. “Careful loves I tend to bite. Also if that’s what you wish I’ll come but I am no prisoner.”

Taken by the arms she went willingly. They crossed over to his ship and she let out a low whistle. Coming up all around the ship was a large kraken. It let out a low groan. “Take the ship to father… As a present. Not this one… the other one. He’ll be angry with me if I don’t clean up. Wait for us to sail away…” The mighty beast of the sea went back into the ocean after it took the smaller end of a tentacle caressing her face with care. "I'm alright. Tell Father I'm fine too. Just visiting a friend. Please don't tell him the specifics of my new friends," she comforted the beast as it went back under. Waiting underneath at its master’s command. There was a displeased look on her face for a few moments. “He might still be angry with me for this situation.” There was a sharp TSK that left her mouth. It was never alright when she got in trouble.

Still, even though her fingers dug into her leg causing herself to bleed as she daydreamed… She let it go. There was resolve in those eyes. The amount of control she did have was good. “So… as your guest, for lack of a better word, what will you be having me do. It’s not every day that a man takes custody of a princess of the sea without repercussions. Not that you fear them of course.”

He expected for pirates to ambush him, but after spending a few minutes traveling beneath the ship, dissatisfaction came to him in realizing that there was no one coming out from the shadows. Lowering the hand with the flame, Sol was just about to call for the others to leave the vessel when he heard screams coming from behind him. Rushing over towards the man’s direction, he spotted something over him, a creature in a feminine form. It didn’t much effort for him to realize who it was either, which brought out a small snarl from his lips.

“Why are you here?” Undine was the last person he wanted to see here, or anywhere for that matter. It was becoming clear what had happened to the crew that had previously been abroad the ship. For all that power she wielded, he considered her too lazy and gluttonous for her own good. “A ship isn’t usually without a crew so I wanted to see what happened. Now I know what did occur.” The cultist scrambled away from her when she released him, but then he was engulfed in wicked flames, scorching him alive while Sol held a seldom look upon his face as the fire streamed from his very own hand. Weakness would not do among his forces, even death should be embraced with welcomed arms instead of taking in fear like a child did. Sol took no pleasure nor remorse about this- it was only culling the weak, and simply that.

Within moments, the now burnt up corpse collapsed, the burning smell lingered in the air before the demon crossed his arms. While he was willing to teach that cultist a lesson, he also did it to serve to deprive Undine of a meal. “Sweet and simple. You lack control over yourself, or at least enough of it.” The other cultist made it back to him and looked at the body himself. “Go back to the ship and get a couple more men”, he instructed before looking back to her, ”Also, you will be in my debt since you had one of my men killed. Humans are plentiful vermin, but getting loyal ones is so difficult to find among them.” He had no time for these games of hers, but her talents were surely a different matter. Sol stepped over the charred body and circled around to behind her. He waited patiently before the cultists returned and gathered around her. "For your own good, I'm taking custody of you until further notice, any questions?" With a simple whistle, the men started in to grab her by the arms and legs while he stood by.

Her song continued to haunt the halls of the lower deck. She was looking for any survivors. Undine was hungry and she had forgotten in the wake of her artistic creation that she needed something of substance… Though she might be stuck eating Abedian foods at this rate instead of her favorite young sailors. There was a sudden creak and she cut her song off as she dipped into the shadows of the ship. Her eyes latched onto a shadow of what was clearly a sailor of some sort.

Her tongue came up and licked at her teeth. Her mouth was salivating as she thought of how good his flesh would be. Without hesitation, she pounced from where she was and tackled down the sailor. Her true face revealed as she went in close to bite at that tender neck. She stopped on a dime and her mouth returned to normal as a smirk crossed it. “Sol?” She caressed the sailor’s face adding a light kiss to his tender flesh. A shame he did smell so good.

“What brings you to this humble little ship full of art.” She could feel the sailor under her shaking as she straddled his body and sat up. “I guess if this one is yours that I will let him go.” She pulled her naked form off of him and took a sigh. “I guess I did kill all of them.” There was a disappointed look on her face. Though the mischievous look came back as the sailor got up. She blew a puff of air at him and the boy about jumped out of his skin.

Bringing her hand up to her chin. “I got a little too creative… I’ve been so pent up that I momentarily lost control.” She began to stretch and play with her hair as the disappointment came back to her face. “This power is so troublesome at times. Do forgive the mess I made.”

Drawing closer to the vessel, it was eerily quiet. Too damn quiet as the men hushed whispers could be heard as if they were speaking out loud. Sol himself leaned against the side and wondered what was going on. A trap? It wasn’t uncommon by pirates to pull off something like that- make the ship look like it was abandoned only to surprise would be adventures or pillagers when they came onboard. He wasn’t about to sacrifice himself if that was the case…or perhaps better yet he would.

It seemed like an opportunity to test out how much strength returned to him. The situation looked even more bizarre the closer they came to the ship and the gruesome display of bodies dangling against it suggested something much more sinister than mere pirates. “You two, are coming with me”, he pointed to some of them before a bridge was established and the three head off towards it. Sol snooped around, each step on the vessel was a creaky and surefire way of giving away their position. It was with that he came up with the idea of splitting, perhaps not a move preferred by the other men, but they would do as they were told. A black fireball was summoned into the palm of his hands, a quite large one that was stronger than the average spell. Pleased with the sight of it, he descended into the lower parts, where the possibility of an ambush grew more likely. The darkness surrounded him, inched away only by the light of his flame. Many that would be in his position would have surely raced back up to their ship and sailed away.

But fear wasn’t something that came to him, no if anything was felt, then it was excitement at being able to fight. To kill again and not have himself be so restricted again like how he was when he woken up. Let them come, he was looking forward to it.

It was easy enough to slink her way into the ship. Not many sirens had control over their legs like she did. The men stared at her up on deck probably because she was naked. “Miss, what are y–” One of the sailors began to talk to her but that was when her voice came out. It rose to the highest heights. “IT’S A SIREN EVERYONE RUN!” Oh… he had encountered one before and her eyes narrowed as she stopped for a moment. Her hand let a snap as the men started to jump over board. Her song continued after that. It was a heavenly melody.

The men who quickly went overboard to avoid her were met with her friends. There was heavenly screaming and chomping noises as the waters went red around the ship. On deck she was coaxing the sailors into a lovely play as they all grabbed rope and started to scale the masts of the ship. Her blue eyes watched in anticipation as they crafted the finest gifts for her. Oh, their knots were lovely.

One by one they showed her their love as the ropes lost their slack forming a chandelier of corpses. After she raided the ship she jumped up onto a barrel and her fins came back out as she rubbed them softly. She was very pleased as she used some oil she had found on the ship. It smelled like lavender and that was pleasant. It felt good on her scales as she continued to sing her song of love. She would have to eat later as she realized she went a tad overboard.

Undine knew she needed to get rid of the evidence but she had treasure stacked up by her, she had lovely oil on her skin, and now there was a ship just a bit off in the distance. Maybe just maybe she would have more victims.

Returning to Abed was a moment that he had urged for centuries. It had been the closest thing to a home that he could call a place. Back in his time, his reputation as a powerful Djinn had spread among the underbelly of the city, much so that he had once been housed by a particular cult and seen as a messiah sent by the old gods. Of course, it hadn’t been true but Sol did take advantage of their foolishness and had used them as pawns in his crusade against his father. But so much time had passed as he slipped through the city’s gates, and hopes of reviving the cult in his favor seemed like an impossible dream. Would he have to start from scratch? If so, then he would in for a long and rocky road. Much of his power was returning, which he was grateful for though his time of rest could have been spent in better settings. And by himself. Undine had wasted enough of his time already, but he wouldn’t raise a hand against her, out of a level of respect. She didn’t, after all, try to eat him like all her other victims.

Shaking himself from the thoughts of the siren, he traveled through the heat of Abed and soon found himself in similar territory, albeit much smaller than before. Many of the older circles and cults were dead or forgotten and he felt as sure that his own faded into the pages of history as well. Pity, but it wasn’t anything he wasn’t already suspected to deal with. Gathering very small cult members seemed to be a hassle and not as grand as the number of worshippers he was used to getting, but it would have to do.

Ten, ten men were in his stead, a laughable number, but it would only serve him in the long run. To build up his forces in a manner of his liking versus taking droves of people with established beliefs, it seemed to be a far better idea. The city cracked down on the underworld when it grew too powerful, so he would have to be smarter in the long run. Of course, he wanted a base in the city, but the main headquarters might have been best far from it though. So, when it came down to it, he and his men were set onto a ship heading to the mainland. Using the small fortune he had “borrowed” from a noble house, Sol had made sure that they at least traveled in style as he paid off the captain of the ship before settling his things into one of the more lavish rooms. The ship had only set sail an hour ago when one of his men called for him.

“Lord Sol, there’s a ship in our way.”

Curiosity festered in him as he came up to the deck and looked on with the rest of them as indeed there was a ship ahead of them, only it wasn’t moving.
