Aven reached tentatively down, dipping a finger in, preparing to wince. It was strange, there was a time when Aven could have severed his own hand and barely flinched, a demonstration he'd given a multitude of times to prove a point. Indeed, the water was hot enough to scald him slightly, but they needed only a few more meters before it would be livable. He retracted his hand, dismissing the burn on his finger, as the disk traveled a good twenty five feet father, before lowering them into hot-spring-like conditions. "Seems you were right, Haki. From here, we go down."
He winces suddenly, glancing at his finger in surprise as a dull pain echoed up his arm. The burn… I've regressed that far… The past few months had brought more than a small amount of worry to Aven, who, admittedly, had been growing weaker and weaker by the day. He hadn't informed Hakon as of yet, the burden of such knowledge not something he wished to place upon her in the middle of her regaining her passion, rebuilding an order of knights.
It had started with Aven noticing the shadows beginning to reject him at random, and his wounds healing progressively slower. At the rate he was going, it would only be a week before he healed no faster than a normal human, and this, of course, was the second reason he hadn't told Hakon. If they succeeded in their mission, and obtained the Crystal Ether, he'd have the materials to ensure Hakon would not perish of old age, a fervent wish of his. of course, if he did not find a cure for his own condition, it was likely that not only would he be reduced to a normal human in power, he would only live at maximum another month, as his body will by then have completely lost it's ability to mend itself.

The further they traveled, the less steam began to warp the tip of the blade. Hakon bites her bottom lip, doubt began to weigh heavily upon her. Perhaps she was meant to be mortal, and the Fates themselves would do anything to remind her of that fact. Shaking these thoughts away, she once again allowed her thoughts to drift to home, to the twins- a small smile pursing her lips. Her eyes flickered to Aven, seeing him grimace, a low chuckle echoed from her lips," Aren't you glad this isn't your toe?" she teases gently, lifting the blade briefly from the water to show the now slightly curled tip, arching a slender eyebrow before kissing his cheek. Looking down again, she notes the lack of steam, looking to him curiously," I believe we may have arrived."

Aven sheepishly returned to the center of the dark disk. Simple solution were often the most fortuitous, solutions he sometimes tended to overlook. It wasn't exactly his fault, most of the problems he endeavored to solve on a daily basis required several levels of conjecture and hypothesis, and had no simple answers. He supposed Hakon also completed that aspect of him, able to see the world in more straightforward terms than Aven himself. All the more reason she was his everything. "Of course, Haki, I hadn't thought of the obvious."The water around them had ceased to actively produce steam, but the temperature was still hot enough to melt skin from bone, easily seen by the puff of mist emitted when Hakon dipped her sword. Aven grimaced: that would have been his toe…

" Honestly my dear-" she sighs faintly with a dry chuckle,"-one would think there is a better way of testing the waters then dipping your toes in, then observing if any flesh is left when you pull your foot out." Rolling her eyes with a gentle smile, she turned to him, cupping his face gently in her heavily armored hands, looking into those lovely silver eyes which rippled with the life of shadows within the iris. Her brow furrowed, as it did when she deeply contemplated something or concern reared its ugly head.

" Allow me to place my greatsword in the waters- if it warps, then it will be too hot, is that fair?" She asks quietly. Briefly her mind flickered back. Back to home. She wondered if Jace and Elenoir had been woken yet, they were probably harassing Ansgar to some degree if he had returned home by now, plucking his feathers and pulling his tail- only to get lightly swatted at as their nanny fretted over the fact the creature could very easily swallow both children in a single gulp. Her lips curl into a tired smile," Is that alright?"

Aven gives Hakon a casual wink. "When the water isn't quite literally able to cook us alive, of course." By that, of course, he meant he had positively no way of knowing. Even with magic, there was only so much that he could do, and remotely sensing water temperature was not one of them. Their best bet would probably be to have him test the water himself, since his body could regenerate the injury. "I'll probably just dip a toe in periodically as we go to test it. Don't worry, it'll heal." He takes her hand, and steps onto the disk, and without hesitation, it begins to move outward along the boiling water, away from the burning shore and submerged magma.

Hakon glances to him, offering a small smile, shrugging her heavily armored shoulders," It doesn't hurt to be optimistic," she protested quietly, offering a horse chuckle before bringing her fingers to her lips, a shrill whistle of almost deafening proportions ripping from her lips- as the sound faded into the low gurgle of magma, an answering and distant shriek was heard.

Looking back at Aven, she nods and pauses, stepping upon the dark disk as she offers him her armored hand," If I may- how will we know when it is a safe distance, dear?" Vaguely, Hakon's mind drifted to being boiled alive- hundreds of thousands of miles away from her children, never to be found, leaving Aven all alone with the weight of her mortality upon him… Shaking these thoughts off, she offered a smile.

Aven raised an eyebrow at her mention of sundown. Surely, she wasn't serious? Had he not…. oh dear. "Haki, sweetheart, you realize that this journey may take us weeks, maybe months? There's a very adequate reason this kind of feat is not attempted often, and crystallized Ether so rare as a result: it is an arduous and perilous journey, into a realm that most have not dreamed of exploring nor have the means to do so." He glanced back at the water, leading her along the outcropping away from the magma flow. "As for our route, we'll need to stay at least a hundred and fifty meters away from the channel at all times, to be safe." A tendril of shadow rose from the water at his beckoning, forming a disk for them to stand on. "I'll take us as far as I can away from the boiling shore, you should probably inform our feathered friend about our lengthened time away."

Ansgar idly clacked his beak, pushing his beak warmly into Aven's hand. The tuft of feathers upon the Hippogriff's head seemed to flare considerably as his great amber eyes stared down at the boiling water, releasing a low, chirruping-whiny that sounded quite concerned. Lifting his head, the Hippogriff turned toward Hakon whom embraced him quickly, murmuring," Hush, sweet Ansgar, circle the island near sun down- look for us." She plants a quick kiss upon his forehead as the creature backs away, pounding his massive tawny wings before taking off running from the edge of the rocks- expanding his massive wingspan and leaping off. The massive drafts of heat from the volcano immediately tossing the beast high into the air and out of sight.

Hakon stepped up beside Aven, grasping his hand as she looks down- carefully concealing the fear in her face,"… How do we get down there without boiling alive?"

Author: Aven Alveron, Posted: Wed Aug 9, 2017 7:51 PM, Post Subject: The Past is Gone [P/M]

Aven glanced around the area as he takes Hakon's hand, vaulting off Ansgar's feathery back and onto the volcanic rock. He'd only seen it on the map, so he'd assumed the island was pre-formed, not a volcanic slab of ash. Still, it didn't affect their mission adversely: in fact, it could aid them considerably. If the channel was still pumping out lava, it would be much easier to follow by the heat of the ocean floor above it than anticipated, one obstacle of the daunting quest averted straight away. Perhaps fortune was on their side for once?

Aven stroked Ansgar's head. "This is as far as you can go, Ansgar. Thank you for taking us." His eyes glanced toward the water, a section away from the molten discharge. They couldn't get too close to the magma channel, even underwater, or they'd surely boil alive. He pointed to the tides on the rocks. "We go down from here, and follow the heat. That should lead us toward the tectonic plates."

The Hippogryph seems to follow his direction, pushing through sulfurous smoke and weaving through gouts of steam before lighting upon the rocky outcropping. Ansgar utters a low warbling sound of discomfort, clearly this place making him uneasy as his feathers bristled considerably. Hakon dismounts and quickly prepares herself, looking about them through the slits in her helm, a small frown curling her lips before she reaches up to help Aven down.

Aven scanned the surface. "No, this is only our starting point. This volcano is actually connected to a larger one, which extends all the way to the deep sea. We can't go much past the ocean floor because of the water pressure, but we can get close enough to determine if my observations were correct." He points to a small rock outcropping near the shore. "We should start there, and head down into the ocean." He pats Ansgar. "This is about as far as Ansgar can take us."

" Understood-" she responded automatically, briefly falling into the rather mechanical mindset of a soldier once more. Nonetheless, she tilts her head toward where he motioned before Ansgar dipped slightly in his glide- ripping toward the island with several powerful strokes of his massive wings. The ocean glittered with light beneath them as they made their way toward the bolcanic island. Magma silently gurgled form from the beaches, charring the white sand and slowly creating great scars through the heavy green forest- the Hipoogryph began to circle the island, searching for a place to land as Hakon looks back to Aven.

" Do you think we'll find Ether here?" She asks over the low gurgle of the magma spewing forth from the earth

Aven scanned the horizon, spotting his quarry: a small island far in the distance. "There: the oceanic charts I examined place that island nearest to a large and active underwater volcano. That volcano is our first target."

Hakon smiles faintly and nods her head. They weren't Dark Matter- they would not have to go through the same hunger their father had- such a relief, in truth- they wouldn't have to suffer as he had and yet… What were they then? She tried to keep her mind off those thoughts as the Hippogryph glided down over the deep blue ocean, skimming a hundred meters above the dark waves and slowly losing more altitude. As they moves further into the ocean, large masses of bubbles could be seen followed by a great spout of white water. A pod of massive whales appear upon the surface briefly, their songs ever so slightly muffled by the roar of wind and waves.

" Where shall we land?"

Aven shook his head. "There's no way to tell for sure at this point. On one hand, Elenoir has been showing signs of magic with those spontaneous melodies of hers, and it's likely she'll develop something akin to a bard's magic, where she can heal and soothe others, as well as influence their emotions. Jace, on the other hand, seems to be the exact opposite of me, where magic is drawn to him. I've no idea what kind of powers he'll manifest: furthermore, I'm still unsure exactly what our children would be classified as. They are not dark matter, that much is certain, but at the same time, they are not fully human." He smiles, a carefree gesture. "I suppose we can thank the stars above that they aren't dark matter, though, so I won't complain."

Hakon hesitated and nodded, she had learned to bless water in her time in Connlaoth to annoint the dead before burial. Perhaps here it was a bit more tangible of a process- nonetheless, she felt as if she could do it," Yes, I can do that-" she pauses, turning slightly to look at them as they slowly slided downward, calling over the wind,"- Love- what do you think…" she pauses, the wind snatching her voice away but- more causing her to hesitate as she speaks faintly," What do you think Ellie and Jace will do?"

Aven's eyes glimmer as he watches the sea below. The height was horrifying, but the view was spectacular, and the feeling of wind around them made shivers go down his spine. In response to Hakon's question, Aven thinks for a moment, recalling a myriad of ritualistic magics and processes. "Silver dust, the fangs of a vampire, holy water, and a very specific spell matrix. I've got everythign but the holy water- don't ask about the vampire- but if I recall, you could consecrate some water as a paladin, correct?"

As they climbed passed the rising airships and into the clouds, eating up wind and earth like guttons of distance itself, she reached around and grasped Aven to her until they leveled out just above the lowest clouds. The land about them stretched out green and vibrant with life- ah- Hakon loved flying, she hoped one day one of her children would meet a creature to be so close with and to travel like this beside. She yawns softly as Ansgar's massive tawny wings straighten out- in the distance, the ocean sparkled akin to sapphire bathed in firelight from the rising sun.

The wind whistled in their ears as Hakon turns slightly and calls to him," What else does this ritual acquire?"

The sight of Hakon cradling their children never ceased to warm Aven's heart. Everything they'd done and suffered though, and everything they would suffer through in the future, would be for the sake of Jace and Elenoir, even their current agenda. He was sure than no child would want to lose their mother, and if they succeeded, that wouldn't be an issue, at least to old age.

They took off in haste, Aven's stomach rising as they took off into the sky. The clouds fast approached them, and Aven hugged Hakon's waist tightly for dear life. Truthfully, Aven was not fond of flying, the prospect of being so far from a shadow to meld into terrifying him. Still, as long as he was with Hakon, he could bear it. He glanced down, a mistake. Maybe….

Hakon smiles as she looks up, the Hippogryph shifting under him as she gently feeds the reigns into the beast's beak before promptly swinging herself into the saddle ahead of him. Looking back over her shoulder, she pulls down her helm to protect herself from the wind before glancing back at the nursemaid who held the sleeping infants in her arms," I am… It's just- ah-" she pauses, taking off her helm and quickly sliding off Ansgar's back as she rushes to the old woman who's crinkled face splits with a teary smile. Hakon gathers both the children in her arms, careful not to pinch their tender flesh with the hard armor as she gazed down at them lovingly, her eyes narrowed with affectionately love as she presses her lips first to Jace's forehead then to Elenoir's. The little girl opens her little pink mouth in a loud yawn that causes Hakon to laugh somewhat tearily," Oh my babies-" she hums softly, hugging them gently against her heavily armored chest, gazing down at them lovingly.

" They'll be alrigh' mum," The Nursemaid assures her gently, retrieving the children as Hakon nods gently and turns back, walking back to the waiting Ansgar and Aven before quickly urging the winged beast out into the cobblestone and promptly  having the creature spread its massive wings to leap into the air with a loud cawing neigh.

Aven strode out of the house in a nostalgic outfit: his old black gloves, boots, and robe, though the robe had a bit different shape to it, thanks to his muscle mass. He waved to the Nursemaid, and approached Hakon and Ansgar, nodding to the hippogryph and vaulting up onto his back. "Are we ready to go? no time like the present."

Hakon chuckles and leans into him, ah how she had missed this- the small spark in her breast and fire in her dearest Husband's eyes as they partook in another adventure. Another journey- perhaps that was what their marriage was based upon, overcoming impossible hurdles together, as one. She chuckles and presses her lips warmly against his," Oh… You have nothing to fear, I'll drag you along, in fact-" she teases gently as she takes his hand gently in her own, leading him through the gardens and back to the warmly lit home they had made their own.

~The Moons Rises and Falls,
       Dawn Approaches…

Hakon strapped the last of the armor over the hippogryphs back, pausing as Ansgar poked the plating with his black tipped beak questioningly- nonetheless, the creature seemed to calm as she rests a hand upon his broad neck and hums soft words before placing the specialized helm over his head," Thats my boy- you shouldn't be so fussy, you probably get more attention from the Twins then I do," she muses softly as the beast nibbles at her plated gloves affectionately, uttering low cooing sounds as the sunlight began to filter into the small stable tucked away in the gardens. Overhead, an airship puttered off before the first waves of ships could interrupt.

Aven leans into her hand slightly, pulling them hip to hip on the bench. "Just try and stop me." He chuckles, leaning in for a kiss. It had been quiet for so long in their lives, nearly four months of normality. It felt right that they were going on another adventure, though he was positive it wouldn't be like any they'd had before.

Hakon pauses and touches her throat, furrowing her brow experimentally, tilting her head toward him as she pauses and slowly reaches out, touching his cheek with a small smile,"… Will you come with me?"

Meanwhile Elenoir seemed particularly interested in a small wooden harp, plucking away at it with fat little fingers and giggling happily- with each giggle the notes seemed to elongate and ripple more vibrantly, dancing with tone and sound before fading completely. The Nursemaid, disheveled and rather exhausted, sat on the floor, gently picking up the glass and shaking her head before scooping jace up into her arms," Awf te bed wit' ye, ye lil' troublemakeh~" she muses softly, planting her lips on his forehead before scooping up the other twin as well, causing Elenoir to squeal with lyrical delight.

Aven grins and snaps his fingers, and Hakon would feel a tingling at her thrust, as if a protective barrier were formed there, and her breathing becomes even easier than normal. "Breath of Ki, a spell that allows one to breathe underwater."

Above them, in the nursery, Jace tumbles about wildly, putting random objects in his mouth, practically anything he could find. One such object was a magical glass that allowed extreme magnification. As he sucked on it, the magic energy slowly drained in the form of a blueish-white stream into his mouth, where is dissappeared. After a few seconds, the stream stopped, and Aven became disinterested in the magnification glass, tossing it aside carelessly. If one were to inspect it, they would find it a normal glass tool.

As she listens she pauses a moment, her brain seeming to slow with all this mention of new substance and names and the way the Earth apparently Was a liquid within. She takes a breath and gathers the yellow skirts, settling beside him as she rests her hands in her lap, her eyes flickering to the house as a window of bright light briefly flickers with the shadows of scrambling infants and the poor nursemaid hired to wrangle the animals. Soft laughter bubbled in her throat- she would be lying if she said she didn't feel her body had been ruined after that rather difficult birth, but the warmth that flooded it every time she saw those cherub-like faces and heard the high-pitched voices babbling away… She would be lying if she said that didn't make all the pain worth it.

Taking a breath, she reaches over and grasps his hand gently, her fingertip gently trailing patterns over his knuckles," So how… Do we get to the bottom of the sea floor, hm?"

Author: Aven Alveron, Posted: Wed Jul 26, 2017 2:08 PM, Post Subject: The Past is Gone [P/M]

Aven laughs once more. "Well that's just the problem, isn't it? There's a good reason crystallized Ether is incredibly sought after and rare, obtaining it is an inhuman feat in and of itself. If my estimations of this planet are correct, the core should be above ten thousand degrees, about as hot as standing on the surface of a sun." He lets go of Hakon, smirking deviously. "Luckily for us, I've actually put some research into the matter at Tar Eisalae for… um… reasons. There is a way to obtain them without going to the core: you see, the core of a planet is not stagnant, it shifts often. These shifts can sometimes break through the next layer and form a magma channel, which can travel a good ways into the Mantle. Now, of course that alone doesn't help us much, it would be near impossible to find the Ether in the Mantle of the planet, but from what I could gather, it's extremely possible that some of the substance winds up near the ocean floor because of those magma channels. Theoretically, if it got close enough, it could be picked up by underwater volcanoes and rocketing to the ocean floor itself. Supporting this evidence is the fact that the only currently known sample of the substance was found underwater, not far from a recent eruption." Aven halts his predication for a moment to lead them up to the bench once more, sitting down. "If there's any real chance of finding crystallized Ether, it would be down there."

Hakon raises her head, hesitantly pulling away from him, her hands still resting upon her chest as she lifts her eyes to him- slowly she tilts her head," How… Would one do that?" She murmurs weakly, she was positive that was likely not an easy task to complete, but even so… Her muscles already ached and her bones creaked slightly in anticipation for another adventure. Instinctively, she looked to where Ansgar lay, the hippogryph dozing in the fading light contently, black tail occasionally snapping the air akin to a whip to ward away insects buzzing about the Garden. An idea blossomed suddenly in the former General's mind and she looked to Hakon,"… I could try and remake the Hand." She murmurs- if only she had more time but once she attained the ether… Now there was more reason to obtain it. Ambition.

Aven chuckles. "There's nothing to be sorry for, Haki. Remember, I'll do anything for you, even if it means traveling to the core of this planet…" He glances up and to the side. "…whiiiiiich might be the only place crystallized Ether is known to form."

Hakon exhales through her nose and sighs gently," I… How do I find this Ether?" She asks quietly, hugging him tightly as she pressed her lips into his skin. She was trembling slightly, it never occurred to her how precious her own life was to her. Especially after she spent most of itnearly throwing it away, taking a deep breath, she curls her fingers into the fabric of his shirt," I'm sorry- I'm sorry-"

Aven stroked his hand along her hair, trying to comfort her, but was deep in thought. It wasn't an easy path, and there'd be danger all along the way, but they'd faced worse. "I know a way, one that would allow you to retain your humanity, but it will be by far one of the hardest." He releases her, bringing her to stare into his eyes. "There exists a ritual that performs the same function as my regeneration, to remove the cellular senescence from you cells. That ritual, however, requires a massive amount of magical energy, the likes of which few can muster. Thus, in order to perform it, I would need crystallized Ether, one of the rarest materials known to exist."

Hakon sighs gently and murmurs," Then… Help me find a way to attain it without becoming a monster-" she pauses before looking up at him once more, cupping his face in her hands as she chides quietly,"- It can be fone, there has to be a way to do that." She furrows her brow and gazes at him seriously,"… You get eaten away by that dark matter, I know what it costs you- but I… I will pay my dues- just don't- please don't make me leave you and the twins."

she ducked her head, her shoulders shaking slightly," Please."

Aven smiles gently, wrapping his arms around Hakon tightly, cradling her and swinging ever so slightly. "…and I couldn't bear to leave you behind, but I don't want you to become like me. Humanity may seem superfluous and useless while you have it, but it's truly something to be cherished." He hugs her tighter. He knew there was a way for her to achieve it that moment, one that he'd never say. Aven could turn normal Matter to dark, an ability Hakon herself knew: but that ability worked just as well on humans, a tactic Rashir had employed several times. He didn't want to put her through that, or to become anything like him. He couldn't…

Hakon's hands idly trail down and rest ypob his collar. Her eyes remain low and she exhales quietly,"… I'm afraid of dying a common death Aven," she admits quietly," I always thought I would die on the battlefield before I met someone who would make me feel this way or before I had children. But now I have something to live for," she sighs, resting her forehead against his as her eyes flicker back to his," I… Always revelled in being mortal, in being human… But now it seems like it a curse. I am going to get older, I will be an old woman, I will forget you, I will forget Ellie and Jace- I'll… Become dust and bones." She ducked her head and bit her bottom lip.

" I wish I had just… Died having the twins-" she laughs mirthlessly and ducks her head,"- I'm sorry, I shouldn't say that but please. i don't…" her voice lowers to a whisper," I don't want to be left behind."

Aven faltered for a moment. He did say 'ask me anything'… He sighed, glancing away past Hakon. It wasn't as I felt he hadn't thought about the subject of Hakon's mortality. Especially with Jace and Elenoir obviously taking after him, he could understand her qualms with her limited lifespan. The problem was… well… "I knew you' did eventually ask about this. There are many ways to achieve agelessness, Haki, and they differ as much as the moon and the sun. I'm sure you've surmised, Jace and Elenoir have inherited my particular brand of the matter, where the constant regeneration of cells in their bodies causes their cells to ignore cellular senescence, the process that incurs aging by halting cell replication after a certain time." Aven makes eye contact once more. "Hakon, I won't stand here and tell you that you should not pursue this path. I want to live with you forever as much as anything… but I also cannot sugarcoat the matter: there are very few ways in which a human can obtain agelessness while retaining their humanity. Most processes throw humanity to the curb, as in some respects, to be human is to be mortal. When a being transcends that barrier, their perspective changes, and not in a small way. I worry, Haki," He leaned in to rest his forehead against hers. "I worry in finding immortality, you would lose yourself."

Resting her cheek upon his shoulder, her hazel-grey eyes flickering to his beautiful silver eyes. She exhales faintly as she squeezes him and murmurs," What…. Ah-" she paused, chewing her bottom lip,"- How can one attain uh- agelessness, my love?" She words carefully, slowly lifting her head to gaze at him

Aven blushed slightly at her touch, still not used to seeing Hakon dressed so casually. She was regal in her armor, of course, but when she waltzed up to him in such leisurely wear with her beautiful smile, it was enough to make his heart skip a beat. He kissed her back, giving her a peck on the forehead. "You can ask me anything, love. What's on your mind?"

Hakon looked up, placing the Blade aside as she got to her feet stiffly, resting her hand over her abdomen stiffly before moving to meet him. Quickly she wraps him up in her arms and presses her lips against his cheek, feeling somewhat light headed but simply smiling with loving purpose.

she swayed with him in her arms, holding him for longer then usual as she rests her chin upon his shoulder," My love- my love I… Have a question," she sings softly to him as she sways, the lily-yellow skirts hissing about her muscled legs as she presses her lips against his cheek once more.

Teaching at the Mage academy was quite a thrill for Aven, in all honesty. Coasting off his research, Aven was able to make a name for himself within the magical community of Iria, quickly gaining a reputation for riveting dissertations and even recognization for his work on Magical theory. Of course, all of this took second to what he now saw as his crowning achievements: Jace and Elianor.

The childbirth had been rough for Hakon, an unexpected twist occurring when, after the first baby, Eleanor, emerged, she was still gasping for breath and turning the bones in Aven's left hand into a powder. He couldn't be prouder as a father, however, especially given that the babies were not fully Dark Matter beings: Aven'd done a ritual to confirm it, both of them had bonifide Souls within them, uncorrupted and as bright as the sun. His heart had nearly burst with happiness to know that they could lead their lives without the strain of dark matter upon them.

However, he had assumed a bit too much. It wasn't even three weeks before random musical notes would begin to ring out around Elianor, and magic particles become attracted to Jace. Aven recalled their meeting with Rashir, and his words describing, 'a new breed'. He wasn't sure exactly what it entailed, but it was certain that neither Jace nor Elianor were normal humans, not in the slightest.

That, of course, is when Aven saw it. A hunger in Hakon's eyes, a new blossoming of purpose. He couldn't tell what it was, nor what it stood for, but she had found a new goal, perhaps beyond the desire to sharpen her steel on the battlefield. He strode up the path to their home, smiling warmly and waving to Hakon. "Haki, I'm home!"

It had been nearly a year and several months since Hakon Kilandre and Aven Alveron were transported into this mysterious world. Their lives thrown into a powerful riptide of fate as they were forced to make themselves anew in this new world. Hakon Kilandre had made a living of selling her sword and offering what wisdom she had to those she deemed worthy of a moral cause of war. Now… Here she sat, within the great manorhouse Aven and her own accumulated wealth had procured for their own and their children's comfort.

The twins had come as a surprise, and as an immense relief- unable to move about for several months had almost killed her- and here she was, still recovering. Exhaling cooly, she dragged the whetstone over the blade, the high pitched hiss causing her some relief as the friction caused the skirt about her legs to warm considerably. She paused, tucking her bangs behind her ears and ducked her head. It had struck her, in those weeks after her dearest children were botn that they were not entirely human. As a resilt, they would outlive their fully mortal counterparts- Aven would likely outlive them… And she was- just human.

She took a deep breath and exhaled waveringly,"…" Closing her eyes tightly, she gently shook her head and slumped upon the bench where she sat. All the stories warning against desiring for immortality meant little to her. She wanted so desperately to be more… In this world. She could be more.
