The P's and R's are topic flags. They're explained in the rules here, but I'll include a snapshot of the two mentioned below(there are others):

• [P] or [Private]: This topic is private. To reply, please contact the person who started the topic for permission.


• [R]: This topic contains sexual content, or extreme violence or gore, and is not appropriate for young audiences (17 or younger). R-rated topics are private unless otherwise indicated. X-rated content is not permitted, regardless of the tag.

  We have a new feature that will be pushed within the month that will allow threads with X-rated content that is banned in R threads, and those will probably be labelled PPT for password protected thread. For now, R threads are just letting all potential readers know that the subject matter is more graphic than you'd otherwise show.
