First, a piercing pain, searing hot agony coursing through her body. The pain spread like acid through her veins, reaching every last point of her body. She felt as though she were burning from the inside out, and she screamed for it to end. Through her blurred vision, she could see the sky darkening as night fell.

Only it was not night - no, the sun still burned bright in the sky. The sun was not setting on the day… the prophetic sun of her existence was setting.

Soon, the light was gone. Soon, Dalanesca felt nothing but numbness - emptiness - darkness.

It dawned on the goddess what she was feeling. She was feeling the cold hand of Death - her hand - wrenching the life, the immortal life, from her body. But no, that was not possible…

Yet, the goddess succumbed to the darkness, and Death dealt her final blow - to herself.

-

”Fall back,” the goddess muttered to herself, shaking her head. The Voice’s warning echoed in her mind - that silly, pointless warning. She was Death! It was laughable - annoying. The gods of Revaliir had evacuated the islanders to safety as the whirlpools in the oceans became deadly, destroying everything in their paths. That particular act had made sense to her. Even as Death, she recognized the necessity to save innocent lives.

But when word came of invading forces from an unknown location, and the Voice told them not to take them on? Ludicrous. The Voice didn’t know what it was talking about, as far as she was concerned.

So, deep within the confines of Luxuria Mortiferum, Dalanesca prepared herself for battle - and soon, she transported herself to the frontlines of where the invasion was taking place. She appeared a safe distance from the invaders, and from her vantage point she analyzed her would-be opponents. Something seemed… strange about them. They resembled insects, only human in size and with more human-like features. Not a species she had ever seen before - but that did not matter. Soon, she would eradicate these invaders, and the Voice would be thanking her for going against its wishes.

In a flash, the goddess disappeared and reappeared a few yards in front of the unknown invaders.

”Before you stands the Reaper of Revaliir,” she said, her voice echoing with her power. ”You are not welcome here. I suggest you retreat, before you face my true wrath. Your end will come swiftly, but it will still be pa-” Dalanesca’s threat was cut off prematurely as a spear sailed through the air, piercing her directly in the gut.

She let out a sharp cry of pain, her hands wrapping around the shaft of the spear. She fell to her knees, and the invaders let out a round of… buzzing? Hissing? She couldn’t tell. She was in too much pain.

A piercing pain.

Searing, hot agony.

And then… nothing.

The corpse of the goddess lay on the ground, already forgotten by the invaders, blood pooling around her as it continued to seep from the wound.
