Both Ivan and Nemesis was simply confused at her…chosen words. It was a rarity to have both of them lost about what she had experienced, though Celeste has some sort of clue to this. “Sounds like a side effect of the poison”, the lord said with a shrug. “Our bite is rather venomous to shifters and vampires alike. This whole wolf thing is relatively new to my ears. Then again, you are probably the only successful vaewolf to start out as one of them.”

“Don’t blame me for that, sheesh. A bit of an overreaction, don’t you think?” Ivan was going to forgive her since she still had some of the qualities that he favored, mainly that toughness about her. But regardless, they had to settle on who was the dominant one in this relationship of theirs, and clearly, she wasn’t about to submit. In fact, she seemed to want to leave now, which confused him even more. “Hey now, why you gonna run away? We are all family around here, Ayla.” His grip got a little tighter as he didn’t wish for her to leave. Didn’t she need his permission to leave? After all, what was the whole point of being a sire if he didn’t have some control over her? He looked over to Nemesis for help, but he simply stood and watched and Celeste wasn’t going to be much help either.

“Now, let’s stop this foolishness about you leaving. Besides, you don’t know everything about our kind to make it on your own just yet…”

Ayla looked at him with that hellfire and let his words crawl across her flesh. “My apologies.” Was all she said to Nemesis. “I wasn’t talking about the pain you crazy piece of shit.” She shouted more at him.

Celeste perked up and crept back towards her husband at long last. “What did you see Ayla that makes you tremble?”

The trembling was faint but something obviously had shaken the girl. “Two wolves… fighting. Devouring one another until only one was left.” Ayla let it out in a low hiss towards Ivan.

“The reason why shifters don’t often survive the transformation. It goes beyond the pain Ivan. It’s a psychological reset almost.” Celeste moved her tiny self towards them half way. “She was talking about the mental aspect of it all and not the physical. It didn’t hurt her at all. You can tell. It scared her.”

“Fear isn’t something the shifters of the savannah admit to having. Devouring myself… That was something new. Something fierce. The change didn’t hurt at all but that doesn’t mean the battle wasn’t hard. Shifters don’t feel pain in the sense that a human might. We’re mostly numb to it.” Ayla was sure that Ivan had no clue about this. “But that other wolf… That’s the reason why many don’t make it… Isn’t it?”

“Correct. It’s a battle for life or death and only those strong enough to beat themselves can claim our blood… Shifters go through this alone.”

Then Ivan had to open his loud mouth about where they were staying and how she should call on him. “Where the bloody hell did you get the idea I would listen to you? The deal was I would come to Kurayo with you. The deal wasn’t that I would stay with you. Also, Ivan is about as good as you are going to get from me. When’s the next ship out of Kurayo?”

Celeste looked up at Nemesis with a smirk. This girl would be a good wake up call for Ivan or it would be the end of him.

Why didn’t anyone warn him about this bit? In Ivan’s mind, it made perfect sense that she would follow his lead- with age and experience by his side, he thought that he’d have no problem controlling her. But both leaders told him otherwise and he looked to his alpha with a questioning look before glancing over at Ayla’s lifeless body. She has already been nothing but hellfire before the change…what the hell was going to happen now? Fear wasn’t something that crept onto him easily, but he wasn’t sure of what to make of this new feeling other than that he didn’t like nor enjoy it.

He sat down and watched her body as every now and then it would stir before falling still again. Nemesis left and ventured upstairs until he would hear the inevitable waking. There was no point in watching a still body as far as he was concerned. But the hours passed and soon Ayla was waking up the shouting caused Ivan to look back at her with a smile while Nemesis flew downstairs in time to see the newly born Volkov toss her “master” into the wall. “Geesh, if you have to do that, then take him outside. We just redid the interior.” He didn’t wish to hear Celeste wanting to do it all over again. Ivan found himself crawling back up to his feet, his insides feeling like crap and he stared at his fledgling, “What made you think it wasn’t going to hurt? Hell, even I was able to come up with that conclusion myself before I was turned.” Besides, she was a big girl and he had warned her that death was possible. Perhaps she wasn’t as smart as he had thought.

“Now that you are changed, you get to stay here with me, Ayla. And I can teach you our ways.”

“Just one moment, who said that you were welcomed to stay here?”, Nemesis inquired. “We said to bring her here and you did. But staying here? I don’t think so.”

Ivan ignored him for the moment and took hold of her arm, “Now, you may refer to me as Master Ivan, or Ivan if you’d prefer. Gotta get that hierarchy thing out of the way.” He threw out another smile towards her without worrying about the consequences.

Celeste was of the same mindset as her husband. The girl was far better off dying during this process then being stuck with Ivan for the rest of her life. It was a pity though, she could tell that Ayla would make a fine vaewolf… If only her sire had been different.

It seemed to finally click for her boy as he discovered what they meant. “It will be a while before we know if she is alive or dead. I would sit tight my dear Ivan. She is not going to be happy when she wakes up and she didn’t like much to begin with. I would prepare for a fight that you are probably going to lose.”

The hours ticked by and her body shook in violent spasms as the change occurred. In her mind, it was more like a haze and she was repeatedly fighting herself. The new beast that was within her, her other self. At the height of the fight, she broke the new entity that lived within her and consumed it. It was the best way to describe the change. When her eyes opened up they were as red as blood. “Ivan…!” The name came from her lips like a dragged out roar as she got up on her feet all too easily.

Her stomp was mighty as she grabbed Ivan and tossed him into the nearest wall. “A LITTLE MORE WARNING WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE!” Her voice was more powerful now as it shook the tiny crystals of the chandeliers above.

Celeste got out of her seat and moved around Ayla. “She is a fine addition Nemesis… Look how strong the vaewolf blood has made her…”

Ayla was staring at Ivan intensely with that more or less looking like a hunter to the hunted.

Nemesis didn’t have to answer for his wife came in and filled the woman in on the details while he poured himself a drink. Ivan was quick to address Ayla with some shushes when she addressed Celeste. “She’s one of the alpha females here and my sire. She’s much stronger than she looks, believe me.” But the mistress spoke up for herself while he hid behind Ayla. To see that she scared him of all things, it was a sight to behold. He backed off during the inspection, quietly waiting for her word, her permission to start the process. Nemesis could see plain as day of his excitement before remembering that this was Ivan’s first sired, or soon to be. Or a victim of misfortune if it proved lethal for her. In any case, this was about to be his first something as the father slipped on his wine.

“Indeed, but she might survive, which will give us a powerful new member. If not…we can bury beside the roses.” He actually held some pity for her and thought that death would have been a far kinder fate than being underneath Ivan.

When he was given the word to, Ivan approached her from behind and bite her neck, draining her of her blood as he held onto her tightly. Nemesis and Celeste watched on until it was over and the former listened and observed Ayla well before downing his drink. “She might just make it…” Ivan smiled as he wiped her blood from his face and then turned to Celeste. “Wait, what do you mean? Vaewolves are naturally stronger than most shifters already. I’m a bit confused, Mama Volkov.”

“What she means is that while you are a vaewolf, you started life as a human”, Nemesis said when it became apparently Ivan didn’t account for one thing. “She was born a shifter, technically stronger than you were Think Ivan, what do you think will happen when she becomes a Vaewolf? Myself and Celeste, along with Serafina are stronger than you and her because of age. In other words, she will not be below you unless she is loyal enough to respect that.”

“Oh…crap.”

“I didn’t touch you like that,” Ayla sighed a bit.

Soon they were in Kurayo and she could feel them looking her up and down. The general feel of the place was… wrong. Still, she kept up with Ivan and sooner than later they ended up at the huge house. She had never seen a home like this before. It could have housed ten of her clan.

The first impression of Nemesis was that… well, he didn’t like Ivan. Asking her to hit him harder barely made her smirk at all. It was cold… He felt cold. Ivan was annoying but he was warm in a sense. This man was hardened and calculating. It made her mildly uncomfortable.

“Apologies for what… Sir…” She added as she remembered what Ivan had told her before.

“For what is going to happen to you should I see it fit.” Celeste stepped off the spiraling staircase that was hidden away through the corridor. “This is especially painful for your kind. I do hope that my Ivan has mentioned it to you.” Her voice was so soft that it made Ayla jump and to see her… It was just a child soon to become an adult by her figure. She was so small.

“You are Celeste?” Ayla was dumbfounded for a moment and Celeste waved her off with a smirk.

“I am thousands of years older than you are my dear. Do not take my appearance lightly. Ivan is my beta so he is very much special to me… So let me begin by examining you.” She came over and pulled Ayla down to her height. “She’s so strong and well built. Her mind is in good shape too. A true warrior you’ve brought us, Ivan.” There was a frown. “It’s a shame she is a shifter… If she had been human this would be so much easier. The amount of force she puts into beating you is amazing for what she is.”

After a few moments, Celeste gave Ivan a nod. “You may turn her… This will be very unpleasant.”

After the deed was done and Ayla was in Ivan’s arms in what seemed to be an eternal sleep Celeste looked at him. “You will have a rough road. Sires generally choose those they know they will be able to control. This girl is stronger than you. You will need to make compromises. Just because you are stronger because you are a vaewolf means nothing. Once she awakens… if she does. Ivan, she will far greater in strength than you. Her potential is endless.”

Ivan at first didn’t believe her when she told him what he had done last night. “No, I wouldn’t have done that. The drinking part, yeah I figured that much out, but the touching? I…” For the first time around her, he was at a loss of words. He didn’t want to envision what had happened and was worried that Celeste would somehow find out about it. “She’ll kill me if she finds out. My alpha will have my head.”

After a bit, he started to go over what he could remember from that time period. “Oh, yea…I can remember bits and pieces. I thought I lost so I touched that damn stuff again and got inside your house. And then…you flipped me!” He frowned as she pulled him up and cut him free. “See now we are even, I touched you unknowingly and you touched me and did it knowingly” He rubbed at his wrists and ankles before looking at Ayla. “I’m sorry about that. I don’t remember what else I must have said or did.” But he did remember winning and that put a smile right back on his face, right before she tossed him out of the room. At least he knew where his clothes were and quickly got dressed.

“Yes, I’m ready.”

It wouldn’t take long for him to prepare his things and the two were off per the agreement. The travel was long but in the end, he was back home in Kurayo and safely lead her back to the manor. “Mama Volkov! Papa Volkov! I’ve returned with Ayla.”

Nemesis had been in his study when he heard the boy calling out for them and hissed. He’d thought he had heard the end of this nonsense and of Ivan in general for a while now, but the months snuck up on him. Coming down the stairs, he laid eyes on the beta and then to the girl, looking her up and down. “So she’s the one that’s been beating you black and blue? Should of hit you harder, really.” Ivan bowed at him while Nemesis waved it off. “Of course you always keep your word. My apologies in advance, Miss. The lady of the house should arrive shortly and will judge you accordingly.”

“Shut up,” a tired Ayla said to him as she rolled over after she elbowed him. “You are lucky I let you in the bed at all. You just looked so pitiful in your britches and you shivered a little… I did tie you up in case you tried to touch me again though.” Her honey eyes opened up and she yawned before stretching.

“You damn near touched every bit of me last night and you stunk like some odd mixture of alcohol that I’ve never smelled before.” He kind of sounded normal. “You ended up in my bathtub last night drunk as a skunk… Touched me every which way and I had to knock you out. I stripped you down to your britches so you wouldn’t get sick.”

She let out a sigh as it became apparent that she wasn’t going to get any more sleep. She crawled out of the covers and threw them back as she pulled him and her up. She was on her knees as she pulled a dagger over and began to cut him free. “You won… by the way. All it took was you being drunk like a damn sailor.” After she untied him she crawled off the bed and planted her feet on the floor. "I am going to kick you out so I can get dressed now. I've had enough of Ivan googling me every time I am naked."

After throwing him out of the room she pointed him to where his clothes were. She took a few minutes to pack up the stuff she thought she needed in case she didn't die from the turning and came downstairs in her traveling gear. "Please tell me you are dressed now."

“Sleep…with…?” Even if he was in a haze, Ivan at least knew what that meant and shook his head furiously. “No, no, I wouldn’t try to get you to do that, without permission. I promise you that.” He was a bit bashful towards that statement but he was more so speaking to her than at her like the last time he saw her naked. If he was sober, he would have shied away and not come into the room.

“Uh…I like you, is all. Don’t meet too many people that captures my attention, especially among women. Bit of a lone wolf”, he said before hiccuping. He wasn’t trying to be a pervert, but the damn tub was too small for both for them to have free space. When she promised to be good for his masters, he smiled and then said something he knew he shouldn’t have. “Oh, and make sure you are dressed and not naked. Might leave the wrong impression.” He looked at the object she searched and pointed, “Hey, that’s that club…” Before he could finish, the last thing he likely saw was the club coming at him and then everything faded to black for him.

It was a long while before he came to, his noggin feeling like hell, not only because of the blow she delivered but also because of the alcohol. “Uhh, tell me I didn’t drink that vile stuff again.” His words were filled with regret as he had no idea where he was and certainly thought he was alone. Soon he felt himself restrained somehow before his mind would register that he was tied up. “The hell?” He actually sounded like a normal person as he struggled about before giving up. Between the night prior and his current state, he had little fight in him.

The longer he gathered his thought, the more Ivan noticed that he was in a bedroom, which meant there would someone around here. “Help?”, he called out right before he was elbowed hard by Ayla. “Hey, why am I tied up? What did I do this time?”

Author: Ayla Volkov, Posted: Sun Jan 28, 2018 7:36 PM, Post Subject: Beasts of Kurayo [p,r]

“I meant what I said by get out. I don’t sleep with just any man and definitely not one that has been annoying me for six months.” Ayla glared at him but it was clear he was not of the right mind as he started to splash more at her.

His words struck her a bit more than it should have and her anger started to drain down. “Why does it matter so much to you if you lose me forever? You don’t know me, Ivan.” He got further down in the water with her almost over her, touching her even more and she blushed hard. “I will be. I always am.” Unlike him.

Then he said the one thing that could have possibly ruined the tiny moment they could have shared together by being stupid. “And… you are way too drunk for this conversation.” She leaned over and grabbed the club she had waiting for him. Without much hesitation, she beat him over the head with it and knocked him out. “Oh god, he’s soaked right through though like an idiot.”

She got out of the tub and got dressed before dragging him over to her room and stripping him down to his underwear. The last thing she needed was a whiny needy man getting even whinier because he got sick. After he was stripped she hog-tied him and put him into the bed on the farthest side away from her and climbed in on her own side.

Tomorrow was going to be a long day.

Author: Ivan Volkov, Posted: Sun Jan 28, 2018 7:15 PM, Post Subject: Beasts of Kurayo [p,r]

Her yelling and screaming barely registered in his cloudy mind as he laughed it off up until he was tossed into the tub itself. It was an odd action as it only made him come back up from the water enough for him to breath. The tub was much smaller than what he had thought and he was more or less over her. Despite her shouts, he, in turn, splashed at her with the scented waters playfully. “Get out or stay in, naughty girl?”

He then went to sniff at his arm and smirked, “Hey, I don’t have that drunk smell really, but don’t worry…I’m not drunk…” He splashed at her again for good measure before her screeching got him. “I’m not drunk, I just felt like having a drink…well a mixture of drinks really, but we aren’t drunk…”

His words slurred out and he was laughing even more than normal. Her surrender hadn’t fully hit him yet as he stopped playing around and looked at her.

“Oh, that. Well, I was drinking, but not drunk mind you because I thought I lost you forever, pretty lady. But it looks like I won.” He sank himself further down into the water. “You’ll enjoy it. Nemesis and Celeste will be pleased to see you and will see what I see in you. So you have to be on your best behavior, Ayla.”

Author: Ayla Volkov, Posted: Sun Jan 28, 2018 7:01 PM, Post Subject: Beasts of Kurayo [p,r]

“You’ve been trying the same thing this whole time… It tries my patience but it is not enough to break me.” Ayla thought she would let him know to see if he had anything else up his sleeves. “I am not an animal for you to own.” She growled at him and clubbed him hard. “Oh… That does make me feel a ton better. I think I’ll be using this on you more often.”

Her bath was nice and hot. It was relaxing and she even had some oils to celebrate in it. However, she heard the idiot downstairs. “What the hell…” He had never actually barged into her house now. She decided to wait and see what he was up to and perhaps it wasn’t her greatest idea.

“You barged into my washroom!” She growled at him when he scolded her. He was now washing her shoulders and her back. “I’m a shifter I don’t care about nakedness.” Instinctively she grabbed him and threw him but slipped on the oils that lathered the bottom of the tub. He wound up in the water with her. “GET OUT!” A crude blush was across her face as he was practically touching almost every part of her in some way or another. “Why the hell are you drunk?”

That was when the god damn splashing started. “STOP,” she growled and finally she threw her arms up. “Just fucking take me to Kurayo. I don’t care anymore.”

Author: Ivan Volkov, Posted: Sun Jan 28, 2018 6:49 PM, Post Subject: Beasts of Kurayo [p,r]

“Predictable? That’s the first I’ve heard anyone say that about me…”, he reassured her. But to be fair, people didn’t tend to have to deal with him and his antics for very long. In Ayla’s case, she had endured him for a long time now. Apparently, the club did serve a purpose, though he wasn’t sure if it would be as effective as she thought given their history. But he wasn’t also expecting for her to take the bet as quickly as she had either. “Splendid, you are but like a wild stallion, Ayla. Meant to be broken and taken back to Kurayo with me.” There had been plenty of people that claimed he drove them mad simply for being himself, so he believed that he didn’t have to really make an effort any more than that,

But as the months rolled by and he simply did as he always did, it was clearly not enough for she was going used to him. The crops were slowly growing around her front yard and the tunnel had since been closed off as he lived on her territory. He kept thinking of ways to get her to see reason and so far all his ideas flopped in front of his face.

Before Ivan knew it, tomorrow was the final day and she would win. He was desperate yet couldn’t think of a way to outdo her. Perhaps Celeste was right and he wouldn’t be successful. Defeated, he took some old scotch mixed with some other strong alcohols he had over the years. He made the concoction because the regular stuff did little to even tickle him and so he was downing a bottle of it and letting the strong burning sensation flow down his throat as he took his time drinking it. By the time the bottle was over, he reeked of the stuff and slumped his way out of his tent and barged right into her house while still trying to be careful and silent (as much as he could muster). His nose led the way towards her as he snickered quietly and grabbed a nearby cloth and snuck behind her with the grace of a cyclops in a marketplace. The cloth found itself way into the water and placed on her shoulder and neck. A couple of hiccups were sent her away, along with half snickers. “Now, you can’t be showing me your knobs and such again. That’s not like a laaaadddy!”

“Hardly you are just predictable.” She let out a sigh from her lips as she walked right on past him. This was seriously getting out of hand. She had bought and purchased a club just in case Ivan had come back. Even if it didn’t work for getting him to understand she could at least make herself feel better. She took it off the notches she had put up on the wall for it and brought it back outside.

She listened to him while she banged the club against the palm of her hand. She listened to his proposal and cocked her head. He was dead set on getting her to come back with him. She knew the history of this family as he had told her everything in an attempt to persuade her. “Fine, six months and if you can’t get me to come back with you then you must leave me alone. I give you my word that I shall come with you.”

She looked down at the club and brought it up under his chin so he could see her eyes. “I got it because beating you might not work but it makes me feel fucking better about it.” There was a smirk on her face for the first time. “So bring on your six months of torment Ivan Volkov. Let’s see just who is the more stubborn wolf.”

The six months were almost up now and it was unlike her to be celebrating but she laid back in her tub with a bottle of alcohol. “One more day and I will have won.” He was escalating and it was only going to get worse if they hadn’t made this deal.

Author: Ivan Volkov, Posted: Sun Jan 28, 2018 4:45 PM, Post Subject: Beasts of Kurayo [p,r]

Ivan was in the middle of tending to the crops with the only light sources being that of the moon and the campfire nearby when she finally showed up. “Ah, I see you can read minds now, an excellent skill!” He gave her that crooked smile she hadn’t seen in weeks before she was already on her way inside the house with her food. The oh so familiar sound of the door slamming brought him back to his work, but then it opened again and his eyes laid upon the club she brought out.

“Wow, that looks like it would hurt. Nice toy, did you get it for some sort of occasion?”, Ivan asked before she addressed it. “Well, you can come with me to Kurayo and get turned. Though I have to say that the chances of it working are…slim and you could possibly die from it. But I think you will survive.”

His eyes never left the club as he turned fully to speak with her. “If beating me didn’t help, then why bring it out?” That was a confusing moment but he continued on with the proposal. “Okay, I have an idea then. Six months…if I can’t persuade you in that amount of time, then I will leave you alone and you will never see me again, anywhere around these parts. If I win, then you will come with me back there and meet with my masters. How’s that?”

He’d thought of it as fair, but her stubbornness made it hard to see if she’d bite the bait or just flat out kill him and spare her the problem entirely.

Celeste watched Ivan leave before climbing back on her husband’s lap. Which was literally a climb with how small she was. “I think… that he is really determined and that it will be the death of her either way. We destroy the things we love when we can’t have them. We Vaewolves are linked to our emotions even if we don’t think about it. I think… that was the first time he called you Nemesis though. Perhaps she will change him for the better.”

Ayla had a few weeks of peace and quiet. However, it was one night a few weeks after everything that she noticed a plot of crops around a tent in front of her house. “Ivan…” She was dressed casual and she had a crate full of food. “What… are you doing back here?” She shook her head and looked up at him. “Nevermind I already know why.”

She went up into the house and slammed the door shut. After a little bit she came out with a club. “What do I have to do to make it so you go away?” She started to smack her hand with it and made it clear her intentions were bad if she didn’t get a good answer. “I don’t think beating the piss out of you will help because I’ve already bloody tried that.”

Author: Ivan Volkov, Posted: Sun Jan 28, 2018 4:16 PM, Post Subject: Beasts of Kurayo [p,r]

He was right to worry a bit about how they would take all of this into account while making their decision.Or more so, how Celeste would take it all into account. Nemesis spoke nothing more of the matter, but she had plenty to say. Ivan wanted this badly, and before he had thought of the consequences of Ayla’s blood, he listened well to his mistress. “Yes, I want to sire her, Ma’am. For me and the family.”

All it would take now was convincing her of this and then bringing her home for the alphas to judge accordingly. The smile on his face widened as she expressed approval under the right details but then it faded when he listened to an outcome he had forgotten about. Would fate be as cruel as his mother believed? Blinking, he was in a rare state of speechlessness but then gave a slow nod. “Yes, I understand. If she was to die, then it wasn’t meant to be. It will be harder to convince her, but I will still try.” If she did perish, then he would be at fault and would have to come to terms with it somehow.

He hugged Celeste back tightly. “Thank you, Mama Volkov.” He reeled back and stood up before bowing to Nemesis. “Thank you, Nemesis.” The elder was taken back slightly as Ivan left the room and shook his head. “Do you really think he can convince her? Especially if he tells her the truth?” He wasn’t so sure of it, but at least he was out of his hair for now.

It would be weeks before another tent showed up at Ayla’s grounds and Ivan was….planting crops around it, humming to himself as he awaited for a familiar greeting from the she-wolf. “Yoohoo! It’s been a while, Ayla! But I’m baaaack!”

Author: Celeste, Posted: Sun Jan 28, 2018 4:03 PM, Post Subject: Beasts of Kurayo [p,r]

Celeste tilted her head as she listened to his words. Her thumbs gently caressed his cheek like a mother would do. Celeste wasn’t cruel to be cruel but she would be if she had to be. Right now she was teetering on letting him set himself up for self-destruction if this girl didn’t want to come. She held it together though as she brought herself forward and kissed his forehead.

“If you think you can convince her… and get her to come here. I will allow you to make her a Volkov. However, Ivan I want you to make sure you are absolutely sure this is the girl you want for a mate… The more you speak of her the more I can tell you want her for a companion.”

Ivan’s existence was a lonely one and she wanted to elevate that. “So you may bring this Ayla girl to us once you have convinced her to come… I just hope that it is the choice that will make you most happy in life. As long as she lives up to our expectations I have no reason to deny you. The warriors of the Savannah are honor bound and won’t defy those ahead of them. That leads me to another point… That I want you to absolutely understand.”

Her mouth went dry for a moment before she continued. “Ivan, the chance of her living through this is very slim. She might be strong but the closer she is to her shifter blood the closer she is to death by taking in our own… She sounds like she is one with her animal blood… Just be ready for her to die for what you want. I am not saying this to be cruel. I just don’t want you to suffer if she were to die.”

She hugged his closely. "Now I do love you who is like my son… So if this girl makes you happy and you are ready to tempt fate… You have our blessing to bring her here."

Author: Ivan Volkov, Posted: Sun Jan 28, 2018 3:53 PM, Post Subject: Beasts of Kurayo [p,r]

It was a ridiculous request, but Ivan needed to do this and the right way. If he took it into his own hands without their approval, they would have certainly destroyed Ayla and him too.Listening to his mistress’ words, he listened attentively and agreed. “If she doesn’t, then I will destroy her”, he flatly said. There was no hesitation in his voice as he was most experienced in killing their kind- many of which had been failed creations that didn’t want to play by the rules. He would be sent to kill them and by now, it was like an art for him. As much as he liked Ayla, he owed Celeste his life.

He let her take his face and he chuckled slightly. “Yes. She’s a good fighter. Strong spirited too. She intrigues me and I’m sure that I can persuade her in wanting this.” The lad seemed delusional in the eyes of Father Volkov, but he held his tongue about it. Once Ivan got something in his head, it was difficult to persuade him otherwise. And he had little patience in playing such a game with him. “She…doesn’t know that I came here and is being stubborn about it. But if I can convince her ,then I’d like to bring her here first and of course, I know that you both need to see her before anything can happen. I just didn’t want to just bring her here without warning first.”

It didn’t matter to him how long he need to break her if he was given this chance to.

“I just…been lonely, I guess. Bored even and she makes things…not so boring. Oh and she’s pretty too.”

Celeste’s eyebrow cocked about as much as Nemesis’s did. They wouldn’t ever let anyone join the family without meeting them first and yet… He didn’t bring her. Her elvish eyes were much better at seeing details that her vaewolf eyes could not even in this dimly lit room. However, she let him speak his words. She held up her hand to her lover so he didn’t tear out Ivan’s throat just yet when he said Papa Volkov.

She took the basket of durians he got her and set it down on Nemesis’s lap. “Before I give you any kind of permission you know what our laws are. No matter how much you like her if she doesn’t bend to our will she will be hunted all the same Ivan… But also.” She took Ivan’s face in her hands and looked him over. “Has… she been punching you and grabbing your neck? You have bruises that are still healing. Just who is this woman? Why would you ask this of us and not even bring her with you?”

Celeste’s red eyes were looking lovingly down at him. “We need to know more about her before we will let you turn her. Since you didn’t bring her with you… You will need to speak on her behalf. Should we allow you to turn her… You will need to bring her before us so we can judge her ourselves.” Tilting her head she looked at Nemesis and then looked back at Ivan. “She doesn’t know you’ve come here to ask this does? From the marks on you my love it looks like you’ve been trying to convince her.” There was a chuckle from her lips. “To put such marks on you means she is very strong indeed.”

If anything, the annoying little vaewolf only followed the rules his family, his alphas had put onto him. Being the top alpha, Nemesis’ word was law and he had to oblige by that, even if he was Celeste’s beta. While a much warmer reception would have been welcomed, he bowed before them all the same with a smile pressed on his lips. Celeste had turned him because he was an effective killer, even Nemesis couldn’t debate that. If anything, he was only called in extreme circumstances where they didn’t want a trail at all leading back to them. It worked out with Ivan since Nemesis would only allow him back into their home a few times a year.

The master of the house was certainly not pleased as he bit into the strawberry his love provided for him. There was some restraint though because Ivan was Celeste’s favorite, for being able to kill with precision and for bringing her fruit. He noticed that there was a basket filled with such in his hand and signed. As eccentric as he was, it was very rare that he’d break the rules unless there was a good reason. “Speak”, he commanded before the younger male went on. “I know that I came back too early, but I won’t take for long. I just wanted to ask for permission…I met a woman. A fierce fighter from the savannah that I want to turn and make part of the family.”

Nemesis cocked an eyebrow at him and thought for a moment wherein normal circumstances he wouldn’t let an outsider in without being properly introduced first at least. The boy had followed the rules to the letter and never asked for anything in return, much to his recollection. But he had stated that she was from the field of shifters and her survival rate wasn’t very high. Besides, who in their right minds would want to be sired by Ivan?

Ivan drew closer and lowered down to his knees upon their feet. “Mama Volkov…Papa Volkov….I asked this of you to grant me permission please.”

“I told you to stop calling me that”, Nemesis growled slightly, annoyed by the effective nickname but regained control of his temper. “I really don’t care either way. Your alpha can decide whether she wants you to or not.” He looked to his wife as he reclined in his seat. “Sounds like he’s turning a shifter. Like I said, you can decide the outcome of this, love.”

Ivan looked at her and bowed his head before gifting her the basket. "She's strong like Boss Lady Volkov, yet I think she is a tad nicer. But I know she can make you all proud like I have."

How the hell did she only win for now? What would it take to get him to understand she didn’t want to go with him! She couldn’t stomach him! He was annoying the ever-loving shit right out of her.

So when he popped his head back into the hole Ayla stood there with her mouth gaping open. She had never met a man who was this smart and yet this stupid before in her life. He was smart and she could tell. He was playing everyone around here and making it seem like he didn’t know what was going on. It was the way he was moving his body but how his words weren’t matching.

Back at the manor, Celeste was lounging over Nemesis. Her small lithe body was so fragile compared to his. Her red eyes moved over to Ivan’s as she moved the strawberry up to Nem’s lips. “Why are you back home so soon Ivan? There must be a good reason why you would go against what Nemesis told you to do… Right?” She chewed on another strawberry and relaxed in his arms.

While it wasn’t his intention to see Ayla, well, in the nude, he had to admit that her form was even more gorgeous than what he had thought. It was only made worse since he couldn’t take his eyes off her and she noticed it. It wasn’t the smartest move he had ever made in his life, which soon came to his thoughts when he was pried from the tunnel and thrown against the wall by her. “Sorry, sorry, don’t kill me”, he said with hands thrown up at her. “I just made a tunnel just in case you needed to escape from a random fire. Someone lit mine up earlier…”

Despite his ploy, he wouldn’t be too surprised to learn if it had been by her hand that did the deed earlier. His eyes lingered from her body and back to her eyes, which were clearly not amused by his antics and with a defeated sigh, he moved her grip away and went back towards the tunnel. “Fine, you win for now. Besides, there’s something I have to deal with first back home.” Without a goodbye, he jumped back into the hole and soon prepared his things to depart. By the following day, he had vanished and taken the nearest port and ship back to Kurayo.

He wasn’t technically allowed back yet, but there was something he required first. And it was smart to get that permission first before he did anything. When he made it to the Volkov estate, he softly entered and looked around for Celeste. “Mama Volkov. You around here?” He carefully looked up and down, not wanting to entice the wrath of her mate. Nemesis stomached him only because of his skills, and he wasn’t about to step on his toes if he could. “Mama Volkov.”

Ayla was busy washing herself after a hard fight in the sparring ring. She felt content. She felt so victorious and overall it was just a good day. She hadn’t put much thought about the noise that was under her floorboards. It was an older house but something did seem off about it.

She stripped down and washed her body with the wet cloth she pulled from the bucket of water. This was normally her daily routine. That was when Ivan sprung from the floor. “IVAN!” She yelled out of shock.

Ayla noticed him googling his eyes at her and it seemed like the worst part of it all despite her being a shifter. She was used to others seeing her in her naked form but him… He wasn’t a shifter not in the typical sense. She ran over and the floorboards shook as she picked him up out of the hole by his collar. She slammed him into the wall and stared up at him with fire. “You need to leave Ivan.”

It felt like forever and a day before he noticed her door open again and she emerged from the darkness, graciously accepting his offer to join him. There were some more cooked deer and as promised, he didn’t mind sharing it with her as he voiced about his lineage and how strong the vaewolves were. He also kept prodding her to tell him some more about herself but she was quite up to the point where she turned to leave. “Leave? But…” He couldn’t finish his statement before she went inside and left him alone. Shrugging it off, he finished his meal and poured water onto the fire before turning in himself.

As the days passed, she would be forced to acknowledge his presence as she left her house and came back. Mostly it was trying to tell him off or punching him if he said something stupid. Which the latter happened plenty. It was early morning as he slept deeply in his tent when his nose picked up on the scent of smoke close by. But something didn’t make sense- he was sure that he put his fire out on the night prior. Half dazed, he opened his eyes and saw that his tent was set ablaze. “Crap.” He nearly leaped out of the tent and fetched some water and threw it onto the flames. Looking around, he didn’t spot anyone else and scratched his head as he knew he’d have to go back into town and get another one. But what if the same thing happened to her house?

Clearly, he wasn’t allowed in through the door but soon he thought of another idea. So he went back and got a new tent along with a shovel and went to work in her backyard. It took some time as he dug his way until he was kinda sure he was beneath her house and dug upwards with care. It took an hour or two before he struck the floor of her house and smashed it up to poke his dirty head up and smiled. “Ayla, guess what? Now you have an escape tunnel just in case your house is set on fire like my tent!", he called out as he looked up and down for any sign of her.

A vaewolf? This man was absolutely crazy!

“She’s been a loner since she showed up with her Da years ago. Wouldn’t put too much thought into it. She doesn’t trust anyone.” The man responded to him. “I don’t think anyone really would after seeing your family get wiped out.” There was a growl from inside the house. Ayla didn’t need this new stranger knowing her business and the man scurried off after hearing it.

That was the way of the savanna. People died. People fought.

So she ignored him the rest of the night and crawled into her bed. It was odd because she could smell the fire from her sleep. She woke up and came to the door. Opening it she stared at the tent. “Stop yelling. It is the middle of the night.” She marched off the porch in all her glory. Her hair was a mess from sleeping and her dress was wrinkled in places from how she slept.

She ate silently by his side more as just giving him what he wanted. Once she was done she got up and looked back at him as she stepped up on the porch. “Leave, I’ve given you what you wanted.” She slammed the door and that was it.

It took several more days of Ivan’s shenanigans before she went out while he was sleeping and lit the tent on fire. He was oblivious to it really as she shut the door to her house once more and crawled back into bed like it was nothing at all.

Ivan was his name and being persistent was his game. That much the poor lady would soon find out as he followed her all the way home as if he had nothing better to do. In fact, that was exactly the case but he really did want those drinks with her. Dominating females weren’t that rare, but it was the way she was kicking the butts of males twice her size and that ferocious attitude of hers that had stirred his interest. And that was saying something for a man whose attention span was very low.

He marched over to her porch and admired the tapestries she collected, faintly remembering that it was a thing among the fighters. It took awhile but she did respond to him, although she was annoyed by his antics. “Ah, that’s a beautiful name. And to think that I was going to have to call you Bertha until we were on our way to Kurayo. Come on, you know you want to. It will be fun, and then I can turn you into something like me. A Vaewolf!” Ivan either wasn’t getting the hint, or he refused to. Or both really. “The big city’s a-calling for you Ay…la.”

He came over to the door but then was met with the door slamming right at him and he yelped a bit while holding his nose. “Oy! That smarts.” He turned slightly when he heard someone coming from behind him, and the scrawny little thing’s efforts were no better than his. At least when Ivan called, she had her door open all the way. With this fool, she barely opened it before it went right back shut. “I wouldn’t know too much about that….”, he stated as the other man finished off his visit and was leaving. “I’ve been told a few times that I can break anyone.” Papa Volkov had stated that and he was several lifetimes and then some older than Ivan. Yet, he could barely stomach the few times the assassin was allowed to come back to the estate.

When he was sure that she was turning in the for the day, he too left the premises. But by the middle of the night, he was back and had a little tent and campfire set up a few feet away from her house. Whistling to himself as he cooked the meat of a deer he caught over the fire, Ivan looked up at the moon and smiled. It was full and it reminded him of home. Pulling the meat away from the fire, it was a little burnt but still edible and he hungrily chowed down on it. “Hey, Ay…la, you can come out if you are hungry! Got plenty of deer to share!! And some wine from the village!”

Ayla was a wolf shifter through and through. She led the mightiest of hunts and almost all by herself at that. She was intimidating to the vast majority of the small village they were in. She had arrived with her father when she was just a young thing. They had been from a village that had been wiped out in a raid. Her father had trained her to be the mightiest and she lived with that for all of her life.

Her family crest had been carved into the support pole of her little house. Tapestries of victories and those of her enemies hung on the outside under the porch roof. They were her pride. She would never let someone win while she was here. She would be the victor. They called her the Beast of the Savanna for a good reason. She hung up her gear and heard the yelling.

It was annoying… but it meant that he had tracked her here and that took some skill at least. She changed into a loose dress something she wore when she had to clean her traveling clothes and patch up her sparring uniform. Her blonde hair was down and bloodied from being pulled but she opened the door once he called her Bertha. “It’s Ayla and I’m not interested. Go. Home. You aren’t a shifter from these parts and I don’t even know why you would want me to go to Kurayo.”

She slammed the door in his face and a smaller shifter was coming around the corner with a handful of flowers. “She still ignoring people eh?” He was a fragile looking thing with the bear symbol on his shoulder. “Ayla come on open up,” all he got was a door opened slightly and slammed. A sigh left his lips and he put the flowers on the porch. “Might as well walk away. Many men have tried to get her but no one can beat how stubborn she is.” He walked away and the latch of the door was heard locking finally as she made her point.

Ivan laughed, finding humor in her blunt statement which an ordinary person wouldn’t. But he was a special case and didn’t worry so much about the consequences. As much punishment as Ayla could dish out, and there was plenty of it to be talked about, she wouldn’t kill him. Just as surely as her surname was that of his, she was loyal to him. Their relationship was taboo- a sired dominate over their sire, but he found the situation refreshing for a number of reasons.

“Hey, I just wanted to have a drink with you, not get into an ass whooping contest. Besides, it was destiny. And fate would have it that you’d resist me for a long time too. It only made the chase even more fun.”

That much was on his mind even back then, as he recalled being planted on the ground and made to kiss the earth while she wrenched at his arm. While he could hear the crows laughing while in excruciating pain, Ivan hadn’t paid them the slightest of mind as he thought of countering her rather rude greeting. Calling on his strength, the vaewolf soon took back control of his arm and within moments, the tables had turned and he held her in his arms as if they were sharing a romantic moment. Unfortunately, the lady wasn’t in such a mood as he gave her a goofy smile only to find her fist beneath his chin and the two dropped onto the floor. He shook off the daze and watched her walk away. Clearly he was going to have to work harder to win her over, and all for a few glasses of alcohol too. Slowly he lifted himself up and left the ring, with plenty of the members of the crowd laughing and patting him on the back for being a “good sport”. This, of course went largely ignored as he followed her scent outside and soon started trailing her like a lost little puppy.

“So, what’s your name?”, he called out. He called out that phase a few times but when it became evident that she wasn’t going to offer him it, Ivan came up with something. “Oh I know, I’ll call you Bertha! Hey Bertha, how about that drink? I’m still up for it! Also, we can still go to Kurayo! I forgive you for being so rude to me!”

She rolled her eyes at him but there was a gentle smile. It took a bit to wear her down, and she did mean a bit, but he was her mate. Still, though he did tend to cross the line where it shouldn’t have been crossed. He did that quite often. “I still don’t know when you decided I would make an excellent mate too… you got more persistent after that.”

Her eyes rolled at his nickname for her and she chuckled towards him. She couldn’t just hardline him every chance she got just because she could. Eventually, he wore her down and she stopped being overly cautious with him. Ivan was a special type of person who had people on guard for the most part. If you didn’t know him or weren’t respected by him it was typically best to stay that way.

“You thought this must be destiny… I thought who is this raving lunatic who just jumped into the ring with me for a volunteer sparring.” She chuckled a bit at him.

It was odd that a random male would even think about getting into the sparring ring without wanting to get their ass kicked. When she flipped him the way he was looking up at her was quite pitiful. It was more like he hadn’t been expecting her to do such a thing. The crowd’s roars were now laughter as she held him down in the compromising position.

“A bloody drink? Are you insane?” Ivan flipped her around and now… he was holding her? Who the fuck was this man? Honey eyes watched him before she threw her arm up and connected with the bottom of his chin… hard. “Don’t come into the ring like that… and I’m not interested.”

She left the ring with little to no interest in it anymore.

He was sure that they got the point, rather well. Or at least understood well enough so that they wouldn't have to suffer the point that the other sailors had faced. It was a stupid thing to cross the vaewolves and he couldn’t fathom on what they could have been thinking. Humans were so gullible sometimes. Fortunately, it was a part of his job to be one step ahead of his prey and despite appearances, he was damn good at it. It was why Nemesis stomached him as Celeste’s beta despite his annoying quirks. Perhaps the same could be said as to why Ayla tolerated him so.
As they left the beautiful disaster, Ivan quickly turned to face her and held that goofy smile again. “Of course, You won the battle the first day, but I won the grand prize.” To emphasize his point, he poked the tip of her nose with a finger, much to her dismay. “I knew it from that day that you’d make for an excellent addition to our little family. Instead of wrestling other shifters, you were made into something far more better with a greater purpose. And who’s to thank for it? Meeeee!”

Ivan waved off her words as if they were nothing at all. “Oh, we can get a new set, my treat, doveface.” He leaped onto a nearby street lantern post and swung around it. “Do you remember those beautiful days? When we first met and thought ‘gee, this must be destiny!’.”
As she replied, he thought back to when he was in the Haza Savanna, in a little remote village. Where nothing really happened and it was a snoozefest aside from the fights they held. Shifter against shifter, for pride and glory, and especially money! He hadn’t partaken in such things because well…he only fought to kill things. Ivan didn’t quite grasp the point of “sparring” or anything of the like but seeing how nothing else happened around these parts, they were his own source of entertainment. It was one day, around noonish where another fight occurred that he was in the crowds and spotted…her. Oh how angelic she looked as she was wailing on that stooge of an opponent. How her hair glistened in the sunlight along with the blood that flew up from the stooge. Her honey eyes as they revered in delivering blow after blow.
It was splendid!

As soon as she won, he pushed his way over to her and leaned in behind her. “Hey, can I buy you a drink?” Apparently, it wasn’t the right call for soon he found himself being flipped onto the ground rather painfully. “Hey now, that wasn’t very nice!” Gathering himself back up, he cocked his head to the side and put his hand on her shoulder. “Now, about that drink? We should chat some more. The name’s Ivan”, he said with a smirk that she would later in life be forced to be familiar with for decades.

Ayla sighed a bit as he gave her that look she was so used to. “Sometimes you do have surprises.” It was then that the men on the ship tried to jump her and Ivan turned serious. Ivan had a serious anger problem when it came to people raising their hands to her when it came to outside the fighting ring. It was one of the many reasons why she did adore him.

She pulled out an axe that had been on her and began to bash in heads with the blunt end and chop off limbs with the sharp. She was fierce and strong with her movements. Most people when they saw her didn’t see the warrior she was but when she was done they would remember. Not these guys… They were dead but the captain would.

She put hands on her hips and stared at the basket. “Steal from us again and it won’t be us coming down here… It will be Celeste and Nemesis.” She stalked up to the man and got in his face. “If you think what we did here was bad… they don’t believe in slow deaths for people like you. Do not let these happen again… Should probably paint your deck red… or you won’t get another crew.” Ivan was now around her and she backed off the captain to look at him.

The blonde gave him a look as they left the dock together. “Is that all you think about? How we met? How you won? I swear you have a one-track mind, Ivan.” There wasn’t a smile and there wasn’t a giggle like most women. He had gotten her through sheer annoyance and while she cared for him she wouldn’t hesitate to backhand him should he push her too far. However, besides the masters of the Volkov family, she was the only one permitted to punish her lover as such. Anyone else who did it would meet her wrath. She was if anything loyal to him.

“I need a new set of knives… I left them in the skulls of the sailors because I couldn’t get them out without them being all nasty.” She sighed a bit and looked up at him with a rather stoic look. “Are they expecting us at home then?”

Author: Ivan Volkov, Posted: Fri Jan 19, 2018 10:56 AM, Post Subject: Beasts of Kurayo [p,r]

Ivan had thought that the men were at least smart enough to back off the way their captain had, but it appeared as though they had to prove their machoness. “I really don’t wanna leave the Capt’n with some more messes”, he explained as they drew closer to him but then he shrugged, “Well, I guess if you all insist, I have time to play.” Setting the basket down, he got into an awkward stance with feet spread wide apart and his hands straight out like knifes before he swung his arms around and made a weird sound. “She-she-sshhaa!” The men looked at one another as if he had lost his damn mind before their anger came back and they continued where they left off.

Soon he heard the most heavenly voice sprout out some vile words his direction, and he turned to see that it was Ayla welcoming him. “Ah, there you are. And no, I didn't not this time. I just broke one of them, I’ll have you know.” The copper headed man smirked goofy at her before some of them went after her. The smile died and a frown overcame his face as he looked darkly upon the rest of them. “You shouldn’t have done that. Before they could grasp what happened, he rushed over and impaled one of the sailor’s chest with his hand, withdrawing it quickly and moved on to the next victim whose throat was viciously beat in. The vessel would soon find itself filled with the dead, with only a handful of them left and the captain, now on the deck, looking dumbfounded than before. “Looks like you’re gonna have a heart attack, old man.”

Spotting Ayla, he retrieved the undamaged basket and checked the fruit. It was still in excellent condition. “It’s all here. Bastard's been stealing from Mama Volkov, and I think once I tell her what he did, she will get twice as much at a fair and economical price so that he can keep his head.” The captain slowly nodded, and Ivan whisked himself over to her and wrapped an arm shamelessly around her waist. “No need to worry, they can clean it up”, he said, referring to the remaining crewmen. “So we are going to leave no, tally ho, me mates and what not!” He waved goodbye before he slipped off the ship and danced around the bodies she laid on the dock. “See, I told you even after all these past years, this was fun. Betcha it beats beating the crap out of the shifters back home, eh?”

It had been an interesting life certainly. There were ups and downs and a good chunk of her life was ignoring the person who stood so firmly by her side. Her honey eyes had never gotten to forgot the first time they met his. The fascination was childlike. Unfortunately, his personality was something to be desired and he took to breaking her almost like a nontraditional toy. Over the course of the first fifty years of their life together he broke down her will to ignore his entire existence.

She stood on the dock with her back against the ship. There was a crew around her ready to fight at a moment’s notice. “I really suggest you back up.” There was a glare from her as she stared at the towering sailors around her. Ayla wasn’t a tall woman nor was she overly muscular. However, she could summon up almost all of her strength, unlike most people. It allowed her to overpower most of her foes and coincidentally it was how Ivan had come to adore her so.

Once she heard the really? Come out of Ivan’s mouth she took a sigh. “You had to take a fucking hard route didn’t ya?” Ayla’s eyes drifted up to the sailors before her quick movements started. She pulled out her throwing daggers and started to put them in their heads, throats, hearts, and any other vital organ. Quick kills were good kills in her opinion but Ivan probably liked it the slow and easy route. Once she was done she licked the blood splatter off the side of her mouth and moved up onto the ship itself.

“Please tell me you are almost done. We have to set this ship adrift after getting all the bodies I just made onto it. I know how much you like to play with fire.” She casually walked around the ship and took an apple out of a barrel. “It’s a loss but they will forgive us.” She bit into it with a crunch as she stared at the bodies. “Did you get the gift?”

Killing was all but a game to him. The winners would be the ones doing the slaying and the losers…well, they were the ones that would have to be buried or set on a pyre. As for Ivan, he was already finishing up with the job set out for him by his alpha as she requested the very fruit that was one of her few vices. Apparently, the shipment was less than satisfying last time and upon hearing that, he set out to make it his mission that it would not happen again. The docks were quiet during the early morning hours upon the isle and he casually walked about until he spotted the ship that was known for bringing in the wondrous fruit.

Climbing aboard and ignoring the crew’s attempts to stop him, he matched all the way to the captain’s quarters and bowed flamboyantly. “Hey Capt’n! Remember me?” The death fearing look on the man’s face answered for him and he smiled brightly. “Ah see, so you do remember this pretty mug. Good to know. Now, I’ve heard you’ve been slacking on picking up a certain fruit for us, no?”

“Look, I’m not in charge of…”

Ivan held up his finger and wagged it, his eyes left the captain and look at the motion of his own finger before snapping back into place. ‘Sorry, you were saying that you are an idiot and I don’t care whether or not you were in charge of stocking it? I simply don't care about it getting delivered, and guess what mate? You’re slippin’!” Quick to turn on his heels, the vaewolf marched back up to the deck, grabbed the nearest man by the throat and brought him before his captain. “So, let’s see if we can fix that mess…” he said right before he broke the crewman’s neck and dropped him on that floor. From the corner of his eye, he spotted a basket at the desk and marched over towards it while the fool stood in shock. After checking on the contents, he took the basket and gave him an indifferent look before leaving. “Oh, and you might wanna clean up that mess too, while you’re at it. Bodies stink after a while” Clicking his tongue and waving goodbye, Ivan strolled without a care in the world as he exited the ship.

Or he would have tried had it not been for some of the more foolish sailors that had had enough of his antics and blocked his escape.
“Really?”
