Rynn got dressed with relative quickness after Gideon handed her the clothes, but paused when she was asked the question.
"I'm not sure I follow?" she asked. "We'll find Jace, and then figure out why he left. After that, we should be able to live together like we used to…" At least, that was if Jace cooperated. The reality was, Rynn had no idea what state Jace was in. Knowing her brother, he was blaming himself for the way everything happened, and probably punishing himself for it. But that was something they would have to tackle once the time came for it. "Or did you mean something else?"
It was about that point where her stomach rumbled in protest. "Oh…I really do need to eat something," she said. "Can we talk about this over breakfast? I'm starving Gideon…"

Gideon clambered back in through the window, did half of a double-take and went to do as Rynn said. They had gotten past the awkwardness of walking in on each other undressed years ago. Sometimes it bugged him that Rynn didn't seem to grasp what kind of an effect she could have on him that way, but it was pointless to try and bring it up. Serah and Crystal had tried and failed some time ago. Gods, that was a fun memory. He was pretty sure he still had a scar from it. The fact that he had walked away with eyes at all was a miracle in and of itself.
"Right," he said as he turned his back to her and grabbed her clothes. He proceeded to go throughout the rest of the one-sided conversation without ever actually looking at Rynn. It had become a practiced art, though it was one he rather wished he didn't feel the need to do. But he would, until Rynn was ready. He handed her clothes over and waited patiently until she was ready.
"Hey, Rynn…" he asked before she could walk out the door. "We need to talk about something," he said. "About what is going to happen after we find Jace. I know that you would rather focus on what is in front of us now, but… I need to know."

Rynn heard the telltale sounds of Gideon's wings, and she turned around. "Oh, good morning, Gideon." Her arms were still stretched above her head, her fingers locked together to extend the stretch as far as it would go. "Do me a favor, and hand me my shirt and pants from over there? I was stuck in that corset all night, and everything is sore now…I think we need to talk to Dart and see if there isn't a hot spring of some sorts we can visit. It would do wonders for us…"
She turned back around, not waiting for Gideon to respond. "Other than the last song we did, I think we did really well. I think…we will have to shelve that last one for awhile. But that's okay. We have more than enough to keep the crowd enthralled. I'm genuinely surprised, though. I knew you were talented with a lute, but I honestly didn't think I'd hold a crowd as well as Serah. Well…of course, she'd have held them better…but it wasn't a bad first night."
"Anyway, let's get dressed and go talk to Dart. I could use some food…maybe they'll have made something delicious down in the tavern."

Gideon glanced up at the bed from his place on the floor and looked at Rynn's dozing form. He sighed wistfully and rested his head on his forearms, his primary wings coming to cover him in a downy warmth. "Dream sweet, my lady…"
__
The night was less than comfortable, but by this point he had gotten quite used to sleeping on hard surfaces. The stiffness and aches came with it were routine at this point. Dawn was just peeking over the horizon as he sat up and stretched out. Rynn was still sound asleep on the bed when he got up, and he decided to let her sleep. It had been too long since they had really had a chance to rest, and she needed it. He silently got up, got cleaned up and changed for the day before he slipped outside via the window and took off for an early morning flight.
The coastal breeze was cool and there was still a low mist coming in off the sea. The entire bustling city was still, except for maybe the docks, where people got to work early. This was his favorite part, finding a place where he could sit and watch a city come to life after the stillness of the night.
He watched for a time as the people of the city began to awaken and the mists cleared. Shops were opened and the city came to life with a will, the quiet stillness banished with the lively activity of city commerce. Gideon smiled and stood from his spot to fly back to the inn where he was sure Rynn had yet to awaken. The tell-tale swoop of his wings and the clatter of him landing on the roof above their room would signify his return to her.

"Sleep well Gideon. And thank you…." Rynn's voice started to trail off. "I don't know…what I'd…do…"
—
Rynn groaned as her eyes fluttered open. The light was more than she could honestly handle in the morning. She tried to roll over, only to realize that the bed she was in was almost too small, and any more movement would have her falling to the floor in a heartbeat. Another groan, and she sat up, stretching.
Hmm…Gideon? She yawned, and looked to the floor to see if her partner was still asleep. As per usual, he had already woken up.
I guess he let me sleep in. I'll have to thank him later. Another yawn escaped her lips as she started to get up. She walked over to the mirror that was in the room, and examined her face.
I look terrible in the mornings…. A third yawn.
Oh. I'm still in most of my clothes from last night. She struggled a moment, but managed to get her corset off, tossing it and her shirt aside.
That's so much better, she thought as she stretched her arms to the sky, letting out yet another yawn.

"I don't know…" Gideon answered. "I didn't get a chance to know all the gods and guardians like you did, Rynn… I know that they had been fighting Fate and the Void long before I was even born… probably as long as Magnus had been alive, and we both know that he was the longest lived out of almost all of them," he replied softly. "But… if I am being honest… if the choice had been between letting the fight end, or turning the clocks back so that everyone could come back, but the fight continue… I would have done what he did. It wouldn't have been right to ask all those who had sacrificed before to come back and make them fight again… it would have made what they gave up meaningless… But this way, their sacrifice gave us who decided to try to move on to a new world a chance to do just that… they gave us a chance to truly be free," he said.
What he said seemed to strike true as she quickly began composing herself and talking more like the girl he knew. He smiled softly and lightly caressed her hair as she rested still against his leg. He leaned against the headboard of the bed and began to relax as sleep began to overtake her. This was nice, sorta cuddling. He rested his head back, content to stay there.
"Oh… you're sleeping on the floor tonight."
Damn… He rolled his eyes and slid his leg out from beneath her before he pulled the blankets up and over her shoulders before he took his place on the floor between her and the door.
"Sleep well, Rynn."

Rynn thought about it for a moment while drying her tears. It had been a mess of things near the end, and everything had happened too quickly. The decision had been cast, and what remained of their world disappeared. It was a miracle that any of them survived at all. Magnus had made the choice. Rynn's grandfather, Drake, had entrusted everything to Magnus, as if he knew that the old spirit's choice would be for the best.
"Do you…ever wonder…or, I guess…do you think Magnus regrets his choice? Do you think he made the right one?" Rynn asked, She looked to Gideon. "Is this really the best choice. To move forward with all of this?" She realized where she was headed, and shook her head.
No. I know better. "I'm sorry. I…I shouldn't have." She took a calming breath, and closed her eyes, moving herself so that she could lean against Gideon, her head resting against his leg.
"There isn't any point in 'what if'. I'll just drive myself mad fantasizing about a perfect world that doesn't exist. All we can do is push forward, and hope for the best."
And to honor those who have fallen by living. "Thank you for supporting me, Gideon. I think…" She yawned, suddenly feeling exhausted. "I think it's time that we….call it a night." She started to doze, he mind falling into the comforting arms of sleep.
"Oh…." she said, half awake. "You're sleeping on the floor tonight…"

"Anyone who meets true sorrow is a mess, and that goes for men and women alike," Gideon said as he offered her a handkerchief to dry her face. "No, I think it was a good thing you did," he admitted. "You've buried so much that it was bound to come out eventually. I think it was brave that you told the tale at all," he said. "It takes a lot of courage to tell that sort of story," he told her.
"Jace wasn't the only one who could keep up with him. Crystal did well in her own way," Gideon said. "They were mates after all," he pointed out. "The people who sacrifice the most are always the ones who we love the deepest, and sometimes it takes losing them to realize it," he said. "I think if Aeolus hadn't gone out the way he did… that maybe Magnus never would have had the chance to make the decision he did about Endless," he said.

Rynn felt herself be moved to the bed. Between her cries and sniffles, she managed a thank you, and quieted down. For the most part, the worst was over, There were still tears, and her nose was dripping. She rubbed her eyes, and sniffled again, turning away from Gideon. "I look like a mess, don't I?" she managed finally. "Thank you, for being here…" Another rough sniffle, followed by a cough and a hiccup. "I probably shouldn't have done that, should I?" she said, starting to laugh.
"You know, Aeolus was genius. He was so smart, that no one could keep up with him. Only person who ever stood a chance was Jace. We all learned from him, and he was more than just a cousin. He was like a second older brother." She rubbed her face, trying to wipe away the tears. "When he saw what we were up against, and how we were fairing, he knew that we couldn't win. He knew he couldn't win either. It was a war of attrition, more than anything."
"Aeolus had lost both his parents. He probably thought that if he went all out, and bought us more time, that he could prevent us from losing anyone else. The idiot…" She chuckled, and shook her head. "No. He was smart. He was right. We never stood a chance. If he hadn't have done it, we would have all died then and there…."

Rynn had always been a rock. When he had first met her, she had a bit of a reputation for being cold. She was cold to almost everyone except the members of her team, save her former partner, but he had been a complete moron and a big talker. Through the years of being with her, he had come to learn that she wasn't cold. She just didn't show her emotions well. She bottled everything up. Even when Aeolus and Crystal had died, she had kept everything bottled up. Where Jace had been angry, Rynn had been stoic. He didn't know why, but somehow, she trusted him enough to allow herself to be vulnerable emotionally, even when she couldn't with her own family.
This moment, was only the second time she had ever broken down like this. There was nothing to stop it as she collapsed in sobs and tears, and he knew he had to just be there. Carefully, he picked her up in his arms and carried her over to the bed. He lay her down and sat beside her. He gently pet her hair and rubbed her back.
"It's ok Rynn," he soothed. "Go ahead… let it all out," he urged her softly. He wasn't sure what else he could do, but he could at least sit with her.

It was as if Gideon cast a spell on her. As his hand led her back tot he room, she felt nothing but a familiar numbness. That same feeling as she attending Aeolus' funeral. They had never recovered a body, so it was nothing more than a ceremony to honor him. Through the entire event, though, she didn't shed a tear. It was only afterwards, when she was away from everyone else, that she was able to even remotely feel.
Back then, it had been Gideon that had let her cry. And once more, he let her cry again. Tears were streaming down her face, and she collapsed. Her voice broke as she sobbed, the feelings overwhelming every logical thought she could have. It was all she could do. It was all she wanted to do. She hadn't stopped since they had arrived in Revallir. Even before that, she hadn't stopped. It was always her pushing forward, and Gideon following.
But now, she couldn't simply push forward. Now, she was breaking. Her mind had been pushed far past it's limit, and now she was paying the price.
And it would be Gideon, who would be there to save her when it was over.

Gideon struggled to keep the tune going while Rynn sang. It was a hard tale on him too. It might not have been familial, like it had been for her, but Aeolus had been a good friend and warrior. Rynn's words were bringing back memories of that last battle that they all fought in together, and it was hard to focus on the movement of his fingers. He sniffed hard as Rynn sang, fighting hard to keep his own composure. He could only imagine how hard it was on her. He could hear the waver in her voice.
Somehow, she managed to get through it. Somehow, he managed to keep playing right along her. There was a silence to the crowd once they finished, as they let the story sink in. Then the applause and cheers started. If only they truly understood. But fortunately the call of the end of the night came, and Gideon immediately put the lute down and grabbed Rynn's hand.
"Come on," he insisted, and pulled her back into the hallway that lead to their shared room. "There, now we are out of sight. Go ahead…"

Rynn had enjoyed the night to it's fullest, and despite not having much experience with singing, she found herself strangely full of confidence. She took a sip of the water that had been provided, and looked back to Gideon with a twinkle in her eye. "I think I've got an idea. Just follow my lead."
She turned back to the crowd, and clasped her hands together with a snap. "Okay. Ready."
She started to hum, her voice rising after Gideon caught on to the rhythm. "I can see your face…I can hear your voice…."
"We can't look back, no longer can we hear your cries, so long ago…" Rynn felt her voice waver as the memories of Aeolus flooded her mind.
"We can't look back, for you're not longer here/
Time has lost its meaning, the darkness we fear/
He stands strong, the silver haired knight/
To guard his brothers in arms against their plight/
The world cries out against it all/
And yet the warriors refuse to fall/
They fight against their doomed fate/
For a future that was promised, they await/
Oh Aeolus, Jace, Sera, and Rynn/
The heroes who stood firm, and fought to win/
They have no lost heart in the fight/
For they have their faith placed in light…"
Rynn took a shaky breath. Her memories were vivid, her brother shouting as the darkness enveloped the land. She could hear Sera call out Aeolus' name as they grouped together, powerful and ancient beasts looming all around them. The fight was hectic, chaotic, as the darkness moved every slowly forward. Aeolus , at the center of it all, pushed back against the beasts. He had been the strongest. And yet even he was being pushed back….
"Yet the darkness eternal pushed ever on/
For this world was doomed to never see dawn/
And yet the brave warriors fought to their last stand/
Against all odds, they stood hand in hand/
Till at last, when their death seemed so sure/
The silver haired knight, with a smile so pure/
Turned the other warriors away from their death/
With a sacrifice, he made unto final breath/
And when all seemed lost, at the last possible chance/
It was not a warrior, but a scholar who would advance/
With the time that was given by our brave soul/
He was able to avert that last bell's toll…"
She wasn't entirely sure why, but tears were running down her face at this point. In her mind, the battle had reached it's peak. She herself had been badly wounded. Her arm was going numb, and her right eye was forced closed. She was woozy from the loss of blood, but she could feel it. That immense power that seemed to come from nowhere. A power that they had strictly forbidden to use. The power that would consume his very life. "Aeolus! You can't!" she tried to yell, but it fell on deaf ears.
"As the world was born anew, and the skies ahead reborn/
The warriors stood together, proud yet forlorn/
For their promise of a bright future seemed bleak at best/
As the world they once knew was finally put to rest/
But in the memory of those who would not return/
Lit the smallest of sparks, the will to live on in turn/
And under this new sky, they promised once more/
To live their life to the fullest, to reach out and soar/
And to not look back on those they lost/
With sadness in heart, or what it had cost/
But to live on without fear/
And to hold those we cherish, ever so dear…."Rynn finished the tale, and wiped away her tears. She genuinely hoped she didn't look a mess at this point. She looked to Gideon, and realized that maybe she had not been entirely ready to make a tale about their fallen comrade, or to sing it aloud. She wasn't even sure how well it went. But she knew it came from the heart, and that should have been all that mattered.
Gideon. I may have made a terrible mistake….

Gideon gave Rynn a small smile and they walked out into the main tavern area. There was a small table, and a couple of stools set up with the lute Gideon had borrowed from D'Artagnan earlier. The man approached them with a smile.
"All right, f-f-for now j-j-just some ambient music. Eventually as th-the p-p-patrons arrive they w-will ask for different s-songs or stories. It s-shouldn't b-be a hard n-night."
Gideon nodded and he walked up to the stool with the lute and took a seat. He plucked at the strings and tuned the instrument before he began plucking out a simple tune that was light hearted and jolly. D'Artagnan placed drinks on the small table so that they would stay refreshed and continued about his work around the tavern.
As more people came in to enjoy the night, the pair of them were asked for different songs and the like. They had to make apologies for not knowing more local tunes since they weren't from the area, but the patrons learned that the stories and songs they had were just as good. A couple even offered to teach the pair some of the more popular songs and stories, which ended up being equally entertaining for those present. Gideon had the pleasure of giving a more romantic tune on the lute that he was applauded for, but mostly it was Rynn singing, though Gideon did join in on the songs that he knew and could somewhat harmonize with.
As the night went on, Gideon's fingers started aching. He hadn't played this much in a while. D'Artagnan made the last call for the night, and one of the patrons made a request for one last epic from the pair. Gideon looked at Rynn. "What do you think?"

Rynn made a concentrated effort not to laugh at Gideon's ridiculous attempt at looking gallant, as it was so far from his character, but smiled despite it. She probably looked no better, her hair in an almost regal crown atop her hair. "We look absurd," she mused as she checked herself over once more, making sure that her attire was set. "Overall, it sounds like we've got a decent set to work with. But yes, I'd say we not burn through our best in one night."
"All ready, then." Rynn nodded to Gideon, and the two set out into the main hall. She could feel her nerves starting to swell, but with Gideon at her side, she knew that everything would be okay. He was like a rock. Always there, steadying her.
I don't know what I would do without you. Probably lose myself, for sure… she mused. She glanced at him, and smiled. "You're very handsome, tonight…gallant celestial," she muttered under her breath. Now all that was left was to be introduced, and the night would begin.

"The only difference is the medium in which you are commanding," Gideon reassured her. "Granted, if you mess up here, we lose an audience, not someone's life. So It should be a bit easier in that regard," he said. He pulled on his vest and did up the laces in the front as he considered the choices of their play list.
"Epics are always a hit, but it really depends on the audience. Some might want rousing ditties, or songs of romance. Some just might want simple wordless tunes," Gideon said. "I think I know enough to be able to handle that at least," he said confidently. It had been a past time at the Academy and during the war when there was a quiet moment to play. He had helped Sera out once or twice too, so he was pretty sure he could entertain when Rynn couldn't. He brushed his damp hair back off of his forehead with his hands, creating a rather gallant look.
"I think if we start out with just quiet lively tunes to begin with, as people come and request things we can go from there," he recommended. "We are here for a week, so we don't want to run out of material in one night," he pointed out as he straightened out his appearance and turned to look at Rynn. "Shall we?"

Rynn had barely noticed Gideon enter the room. Whether it was a sign of her frustration, or her trust in Gideon, no one would be able to tell. Still, a strange sense of calm washed over her as she felt his hands go to work on her hair. As he finished up, and helped her into the corset, she let out a weary sigh, wanting nothing more than to fall back into him and simply rest. But that wasn't an option.
There is far too much that has to be done. She turned around, and tried to avoid looking directly at the shirtless Gideon. "I'm nervous. It's one thing to be in command of a squad. It's completely different to be in command of an audience. She could already feel her heart quickening; a sensation she was certainly not accustomed to. "We should have a list of things ready to play. Obviously, 'The Angel's Heart' is one of them. Maybe that tale father used to talk about…what was it…something about a knight in shining armor slaying the darkness. Oh, we could sing about the jealous witch who tried to charm Grandfather away from Grandmother. Or even how Aunt Kyari met Uncle Lunias. Do you have any suggestions, though? Is there anything you want us to play?"

Weeks, maybe months of built up grime came off with the scrubbing. Gideon couldn't remember the last time he felt so light. His wings were bright and almost downy which had not been seen or felt in some time. What he thought had once been nice sun tan was more dirt than it was sun damage.
He left the bath shortly after Rynn did, since his preening took a bit more time than hers did. He was half-dressed when he went back up to the room, and quietly came in behind Rynn. She was having a hard time with her hair and that corset. He chuckled softly. "Here, let me," he said softly as he came up and pulled her damp hair back from her neck and shoulders. He gently started winding the long black strands into a crown of braids around her head. "There," he said softly as he wiped damp off her neck. He grabbed the laces of the corset and tightened them just as much as she would have wanted and then tied it off. He was tempted to wrap his arms around her and pull her close. But he stopped himself, knowing that she would pull away. He turned away, and sealed his main set of wings away before he pulled on the shirt that Rynn had picked out, and the vest that accompanied it.
"You are beautiful, Rynn," he said. "All eyes will be on you tonight…"

The trip back was uneventful, if not rushed due to Rynn and Gideon's nervousness on their lack of time. Rynn followed Gideon out to the bath house, and took the other side of the partition. Had they not been in a hurried state, Rynn might have taken the time to tease Gideon, but she knew better when work was on the line. Still, she couldn't help but relish the moment as the water hit her skin. It had been ages since her last bath, and recent events had pushed her past her limits of cleanliness. She tried her best to hurry along, realizing that if she lingered on the feeling, she'd never leave.
Not even fifteen minutes later, she found herself back in their shared room. She was already half dressed, preparing the outfit that she had chosen. It was, however, her hair that was struggling to cooperate. Now that it was wet, it was sticking to her skin, and getting caught in the corset as she tried to tie it off.
Blasted hair. I'm tempted to just cut it all off. Or…at least short. Though if I do that, Gideon might cry….

Gideon did as she ordered, and tried to relax. Her little massage helped, and deep down he wished she could have devoted a little more time to it. The clap snapped him out of his daze and he gave Rynn a bit of a smile.
"Well, at least one of us learned something from that. I was just as lost then. I know what's practical, not necessarily what looks good," he admitted. She issued more commands, again something she was very good at, and he hopped to do them. She was right, times was ticking. He looked up at the late afternoon sun. It was getting late fast. He wondered if maybe the day was shorter here than it was in other worlds. It sure seemed that way. He spread his wings once outside the shop and took to the sky to cut back on travel time. They were in a rush after all.
With the new clothes in tow, Gideon rushed through the inn to the bath house that was in the back to get cleaned up. There was a partition separating two halves of a massive ale keg that served as the tubs. There was also a large furnace and pump system where water was being heated for the baths. Gideon stepped into one of the partitions, stripped down, and climbed into the barrel tub. He pulled the rope that held the water funnel up and allowed steaming water to fill the bath. It was hot, but felt fantastic as he scrubbed at his hair, face and body with a rough rag and some soap.

Rynn crossed her arms, looking GIdeon over hard. "As much as it doesn't suit our tastes, it's definitely the attire we'll need. Relax your shoulders," she said as she pushed her hands onto him, massaging his shoulders a bit. "Relax them, and stop looking so stiff. There. Just like that." She took a step and clapped her hands. "This dress here, and your outfit…we're meant to stand out in a crowd, be the center of attention. It mixes near perfectly with the lighting in the inn, as to enhance what the audience sees us as…"
She grinned. "I was always helping Sera pick out her outfits. Uncle Rzek and Aunt Rizka taught me a few things." She winked. "Now…go get back into your old clothes. We'll purchase these, and then head back to the inn." Another set of commands.
It did not take long for Rynn to undress, and soon she and Gideon made their purchases, and moved back into the streets. It was already starting to get late into the day. In order to make their showtime, they would have to get a move on. "Let's go, then, Gideon. No time to delay."

For once she was looking at him the way he wished she would. His cheeks turned a slight pink since it was rather new. If she had looked at him like this before, she had been very good at hiding it. Honestly, he couldn't recall a time when she ever looked at him even remotely close to that. What was worse is that he wasn't sure of what she had in mind as she decided what he would be wearing and dragged him through the clothing shop and began looking at different clothes that were ready made for the general population. She was swift, like she was delivering decisive strikes on an enemy as she pushed different articles into his arms, talking more to the clothes than she was talking to him. His eyes were wide with uncertainty at some of the articles she was handing him, but didn't think it wise to fight. Frankly, he wasn't sure he would have been able to find something better that would actually fit.
Then she was shoving him into a changing room and ordering him to change. "If you insist," he said as vanished behind the screen. He pulled off his clothes and donned the articles that Rynn had picked out with great skepticism. It seemed too fancy for his taste. He might have had feathers but he didn't need fancy plumage. As a matter of fact, he had to seal his wings away because these clothes did not accommodate his large white-gold feathered appendages.
He wasn't sure exactly how long he stood there staring at himself in the mirror before Rynn was calling out to him again, demanding to see how his outfit had turned out.
"I feel utterly ridiculous," he said flatly before he stepped out from behind the screen. He had never really felt that deep red was his color, but he wore the red shirt to humor Rynn, as well as the leather vest, black pants and boots. He felt restricted and uncomfortable, but he did his best to mask it.
"If you have any critique, better get it out now," he said with a shrug.

Rynn studied Gideon, this time her eyes catching all of the features she had been intentionally avoiding. Had they been in a completely different situation, she would have found this a combination of arousing and embarrassing, but instead she motioned for him to turn around slowly. "Okay. I think I have a general idea of what we can manage." She winked, and pulled him through the shop. Rynn scanned the racks, finally stopping near the back.
"Okay. Here." She pulled out a variety of clothes, and shoved them into Gideon's hands. "Go try these on. And these. And this. Oh, and wear this for a hat. And…ew, no. That doesn't go with that…" Rynn smiled. "Okay. Off you go. I need to find mine. I'll meet you in the changing room and we'll see how it looks, okay?"
Rynn took about the same amount of time as she did finding Gideon's outfit, and immediately went to try it on. As she walked out, she twirled around, showing off an elegant, but functional black skirt and red top, with a leather corset showing off her feminine curves. "Yes. Now, Gideon…let's see you! It should match well, right?"

He squeezed her hand when she offered it. "I don't know if you and I will ever be leaders in this world like we were before," he told her. "So we are going to have to find other ways to survive here," he chuckled. He looked at the coins that Tallow had handed him. It felt nice to be able to buy at least the necessities. "Yeah, let's go get some new clothes," he said with a nod.
He smirked and raised an eyebrow at her suggestion. He liked the way it sounded. But then, just as quickly, she was taking it away. Yeah, of course he knew that it wasn't going to happen in a normal bath. Not with the wingspan on both of them. He put on a smile, but his irritation showed through it and it became a bit more sarcastic than he would have liked.
"I am going to regret us taking this job, aren't I?" he asked as they left the inn again and headed back out into the town again to find a clothing shop. "Or are you teasing yet again?" he asked with a slightly raised eyebrow. They wandered a bit looking for a shop, but then found one that would cater to them both.
"All right, do your worst," Gideon said as he stepped inside and looked at Rynn.

Rynn let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. But she smiled, and looked to Gideon. "We did it. You did it. I did…." She started shaking a bit, "I really was nervous. It's so different than leading others." She took a shaky, deep breath, and let it out. "But we did it." She held out her hand to Gideon. "Well? Do you want to go shopping first? I saw a few good places that might work out for us. And after that…"
Rynn broke out into a sly smile, "If you want…we can share a nice, warm bath…and you can wash my back." Her voice had become low, and lustful, as if to tease the poor celestial who was her partner. "Oh, I'm just kidding. You know full well both of us can't fit into a normal bath house with out wingspan. And since I can't put my wings away, you're just out of luck."
"Anyway, I think I know exactly how to dress you up for tonight,:" Rynn said with a smile. "My Gideon, a playful bard…."

He did not interrupt until she was done singing. He didn't say anything right away, but he slowly nodded. "I c-can tell you w-w-were nervous," he said slowly. "B-but you did w-well enough," he said simply before he stood up.
"I'll p-pay y-you bo-both in advance f-for the night. This w-way you will have t-time and some c-coin to get c-cleaned up and f-find suitable c-clothes to wear," he said as he pressed several coins into both of their hands from a pouch on his hip.
"Please be pre-prepared to perform s-songs and s-stories, if it is requested," he said as he stood up. "There is a b-bath h-house in the back garden. Two b-baths are a-available. I will s-send Bella out t-to find you a clean set of c-clothes for the evening," he insisted before he motioned for them to follow him out into the back garden and showed them to the bath house.

Rynn watched Gideon play, and smiled. It had been a long time since she had seen him do something other than fight or care for others. It must have been nice to have a moment of relaxation where he let the tune carry him away. When he was done, Dart commented that his playing was 'well enough.' Rynn had a mind to tell the man off, but quickly curbed her anger, as Dart turned to her expectantly.
"I…er…" She glanced to Gideon. "Angel's Heart, please?" Gideon would know what to play. As the tune started, Rynn cleared her throat. She was, unexpectedly, nervous, but she knew this tale by heart. A legend born from their world. As she started to hum along to the tune, her mind wandered to the tale.
"Oh so long ago, in a world far unknown…" She started…..
The tale, as I remember, was of star crossed lovers. The angel woman and the human man, as it was told… They met in a forest, and fell madly in love, but the angels of her kind were cruel, and tried to separate them. A war consumed the angels and the humans, but by the time either side could come to a truce, it was too late. The angel and the human ran away, to escape. But it was not meant to be, as the angels captured them, and brought them before their people. The angels realized that the human had corrupted the woman, and to repent, they were both burned alive. But, their love was so strong, that each turned into a star, and shot into the sky…though, as it turned out, the human man had a jealous other, whom wanted his heart, and before his star could reach the heavens, it was shattered by the jealous woman, leaving them forever torn apart by fate.
Rynn's voice died down. She hadn't realized it, but her eyes had been closed the entire time. She opened them, unsure of what to expect….

Dart lead Gideon and Rynn back into the kitchen area, where he paused and sat down upon a barrel and regarded the pair of them.
"Y-You t-two aren't f-from here, are you?" he asked, though it came off as more of a statement. "It's f-fine if you are. J-just observing," he commented. "S-So, w-what can you do as far as p-performing is concerned?" he quizzed. "I w-won't lie, I d-do have rather h-h-high standards when it c-comes t-to performers," he added. He looked at them expectantly with his steely grey eyes, but was patient in waiting for a response.
"Well," Gideon started, "we aren't bards by trade." This made Dart's eyebrows raise slightly. "But… we are short of coin. I can play the lute somewhat, and Rynn here has a decent singing voice. But what we lack in musical talent we can both make up for in storytelling," Gideon insisted.
Dart looked them up and down. "C-care to d-demonstrate?" he asked. "Y-you will n-need to be able to perform for people," he said. He picked up a rather worn looking lute from beside the door and offered it to Gideon. Gideon took the well-loved instrument and carefully tuned it before he plucked out a melody. He wasn't half bad at it either, though not the best that Dart had heard by a long shot.
"You p-play well enough," Dart said with a nod. He looked at Rynn. "What about you?"

Rynn wasn't entirely sure what she was expecting with the name D'Artagnan, but when the lanky individual appeared before her, she couldn't help but stifle a grin.
Oh my Gods, he reminds me of Erik. It was further iterated when he started to speak, his methodical, determined attitude. Just like their younger cousin who seemed to struggle at life itself. Only, Rynn had to admit, Dart seemed to have himself together.
"It's a pleasure," Rynn said, but was taken aback when Dart took her hand and kissed it. She blushed slightly, surprised at the act. "I, er…yes, we'll follow you." She wasn't entirely sure what to expect of Dart or really how to interact with him as of yet. A part of her felt an immediate resonance with the man for his familiarity to her own family, but it was exactly that part of her that immediately wanted to run away in the opposite direction, as fast as she could.
"Gideon, I think I need to step out for a bit. Do you think-" Rynn started to say, but paused.
No. That's unfair to him. He may feel the same way as I do. She tightened her fist, and shook her head. "No, never mind. Lead the way."

"Oh, that. Right," the barkeep nodded. "He just got here. I'll go and get him," she said as she turned and left the bar and disappeared into the back where the kitchen was likely to be. A few moments later she returned with a young man who looked to be about their age, tall and lanky, and seemingly all legs, with a deeply tanned face and surprisingly white hair despite his appearance of youth. He looked at the pair before giving them a friendly smile and offered a hand.
"Dart Tallow," he said introducing himself. "Bella s-said you are h-here ab-bou-about the entertain-ner position?" he asked. Gideon took the man's hand and shook it warmly.
"Uh yeah," he said. "I'm Gideon Starchaser, this is my companion Rynn Alzrahi," he said introducing the pair of them. Dart looked at Rynn and took her hand before lightly placing a kiss on the back of her hand. "N-nice to m-meet the pair of you," he said, his tongue working with a little difficulty around the words. "P-Please, c-come with me and we c-can discuss m-matters," he said, and motioned for the two of them to follow him.

Rynn had completely missed Gideon's response to her singing, but did catch his response to the flirting. "Oh please, Gideon…it was only a joke. You know I'd skin any woman alive who got near you," she said, again in a joking tone. Whether or not Gideon realized it or not, it wasn't far off from her true sentiment. Honestly, she was fine with Gideon flirting, but that was it. Anything past that, and Rynn wouldn't have it.
I'd definitely kill for you, Gideon…
The pair made their way back to the Winking Mermaid, wading through the next wave of sailors and tavern goers. They found themselves standing once more before the same innkeep as before, who politely reintroduced herself. Rynn mentally rolled her eyes, despite the fact the woman probably had seen another dozen or so patrons and didn't recall their faces perfectly.
"Aaahh, yes…" Rynn said back. "I do remember. Um, we saw a flier posted over at a board. Could we please speak with D'Artagnan? About the bard position?"

Gideon fought hard to keep from laughing out loud at her quoted description of her vocal talents and personality. He hid it behind a fist and a cough, though it might have appeared on his lips the smile that suggested he found it funnier than he was letting on. He hadn't had the pleasure of being at the Academy with Jace, but from his experiences with him on the battle field and his years of being with Rynn, he found it rather apt.
"You'll be fine," he said with a smile once he had composed himself. "But you are right. The road does not look good on us," he agreed. "Let's at least go apply for the job and then we can see about getting a bath and some clothes," he said. His eyebrows shot upward at her comment, and he found himself rather taken aback. She made it sound like being flirted with by her was a gift she deigned to bestow on him. It actually rather hurt, but this he didn't let on.
"Yeah, yeah, a great idea," he replied. "Come on, let's go back and see if we can find this D'Artagnan guy," he insisted.

Rynn thought for a moment. "Well, I've never learned how to play anything. Mother and Father never really had the opportunity to teach me," she said, sighing. "But as for singing, well…" She smiled. "Jace once told me that my singing could bring all the animals out of hiding. I thought it was a compliment until he added that I would be a worthy princess if it weren't for my lousy personality and lack of any other useful talent." She let out a soft sigh, but grinned again right after.
"I'm probably a bit rusty, but I think I can manage something palatable. But we're definitely not dressed the part. We might have to invest in something nice…or at least borrow something," she said, looking Gideon over. "And we're outright filthy, so baths all around." She twirled around excitedly, "Yes. We can do this…it'll work out in our favor no problem!" Her silver blue eyes locked with Gideon's for a moment, and she smirked, "And maybe…if you're ever so lucky…you might even get hit on by a cute waitress, one's who's beauty surpasses even my own…" She held the serious tone for a moment longer, and then snickered.
"Jokes aside though, this is a good idea, though…"

Gideon looked over the board a couple different times. There were other things that stood out. "Rigging mate… carpenter, farm hand, courier…" he paused when Rynn tapped the newly posted flier.
"Bards wanted for nightly entertainment at local tavern. Meals, room and board provided. Looking for an individual or individuals who can sing, play an instrument or orate with skill and entertain patrons. Temporary or long term. If interested, please apply to D'Artagnan Tallow during the even shifts at the Winking Mermaid," Gideon said as he looked at the listing. "Hey, that one is fortuitous. We are staying at the Winking Mermaid," Gideon commented. "And as long as we fill the position, they will pay for room and board," he said. He looked at Rynn. "How good's your voice? I don't think I've ever heard you play an instrument or sing," he commented.

Rynn blushed as Gideon grabbed her by the shoulders to calm her down. "G-Gideon, I just…" She looked away, and he released her shoulders. "Look. I'm sorry, it's just…" She turned away, still blushing. With a bare whisper, "Look…I'm just…not…really ready for this… With everything going on, I can't really say I'm prepared to…" Her face started to redden more.
"So!" she whipped around, clapping her hands. "Job board!" Rynn to Gideon's hand, and lead him through the streets into the heart of Adelune.
–
It only took them half an hour to find a listing in the cross ways of a well worn street. There were constant adjustments being made as people added and took listings down. "Let's see here, then," Rynn hummed to herself, reading all of the listings out loud to Gideon. "There's a farmhand on the outskirts." She thought for a moment, and the image of her milking a cow gave her a shiver. "Er, no. Circus perfomer?" Again, she took a moment to imagine herself holding a whip and chair, taming a lion. "No. Not really." She moved to the side, and cleared her throat. "Cook. No. Butcher. Ew. Flower girl…" She shook her head. "Nothing here really seems…appropriate." She let out a deep sigh. "Gideeeon…what about a tutor. You're an idiot, but you're a smart idiot…" She shook her head yet again. "No, that won't work. We barely know about this world." To her left, a man walked up and posted a new flier.
"What's this? Paid bard training?" She looked back to Gideon. "We do have a little experience with that…and we have plenty of stories we can spin…"

So they were temporarily forced to share a room with one bed. Gideon didn't mind this, but it was clear that Rynn was not thrilled with the arrangement based on her sudden zeal to find work.
"Rynn!" he said grabbing her shoulders. "Look. You have got to calm down," he insisted. He released her shoulders. "We are not as bad off as all that," he insisted. He sighed, and rubbed his face. "We have a lot of money here. Maybe we can find someone who can value what we have and change it out," he suggested. He ran a hand through his blonde hair and sighed.
He shook his head. "Never mind," he sighed. "Come on. Let's see if there is a job listing board or something nearby…"

The Winking Mermaid seemed to be the largest inn and tavern on the docks. A mix of sailors and travelers seemed to be in influx, and the sound of merriment could be heard as they approached. "Hey Gideon. You've noticed we're getting odd looks, right? It should be fine, for the moment, but we should probably invest in some clothes big enough to hide our wings." She let out a sigh,
I hate not having access to my mana. "Anyway. If something should go wrong," she pointed out to the sea. "We'll meet over the water. If it takes longer than we can manage, follow the shoreline North and set up our usual camp."
With preparations made, she lead the way into the Winking Mermaid. As they entered, a group of sailors broke out into a horribly tuned song about drunken sailors. Rynn tried to hide her disgust at the song, due to its wording and nature of just being to the point and vulgar. She had nothing against the sailors nor the song itself, it just wasn't to her taste. She made her way to the innkeeper's desk, and smiled.
"Hi, are there any rooms available?" Rynn asked, putting her best smile on.
"Let's see here," the innkeeper said, opening her book. "A couple? We have a large single for two at a going rate of 10 silver per night, including two meals."
Rynn blushed, "Oh no…how about two beds?"
The innkeep looked, "We do have that, but the going rate is 12 silver per night, not including any meals."
Rynn frowned. The two had discussed their funding, and while they did have a heft sum of currency, it was completely worthless in this world.
We only have twenty silver left. She let out a sigh. "What about a small bed? A single?"
"The going rate for that is only six coins, including the the meal."
"Can we prepay for two nights?" Rynn asked, holding out the coins.
"Of course. Name please?"
–
It didn't take long for Rynn and Gideon to drop off their things in the room and head back out. "Okay, so we need to find some work fast…" the draconian stated as they walked the streets. "Any ideas?"

"Yeah, it's just about as big," Gideon agreed as he gazed up at the castle that could be seen over the top of the wall that encompassed the city. He followed Rynn through the gate and let out a low whistle at the hustle and bustle of the city. It had been a while since he had seen so many people in one place just going about their normal every day lives.
"No kidding," he replied. "I wouldn't want to lose you here, I think we'd have a hard time finding each other again," he said almost nervously. He noticed they were getting some odd looks. Winged people did not seem to be common in these parts, and if they were, they were definitely not trusted. At least that was the impression Gideon was left with. He made sure to stay close to Rynn as they walked through the streets, casually perusing the stalls and vendors that lined the streets. There were some interesting places, and Gideon couldn't help but want to go and check out some of the places. However, he wanted to wait until he had some coin. He'd rather not walk in somewhere and want to get something only to find he didn't have the coin for it. When Rynn made the comment about staying a while and earning some money to better finance their travels, he nodded.
"I think you are right. That would probably be the best thing to do. A big city like this will have plenty of work, I'm sure," he nodded. "We could find an inn for the time being, and then maybe look to find a less temporary residence once we have the money to do so," he said looking around. "A big city like this, I'm sure we'd be able to find a loft or something," he said thoughtfully.
She sounded like she was making a battle strategy and he rolled his eyes slightly. "Rynn, I know what we need to do," he told her flatly. "We can cross those bridges as they come to us. For now, let's just focus on finding a place to stay," he insisted.
They continued walking around until Gideon spotted a clean looking Inn and Tavern called the Winking Mermaid. "Let's try there. If its out of our price range, they might at least be able to recommend another place," he said. He stepped up to the painted door and pushed it open to go inside.

It had taken Rynn and Gideon much long than they had originally planned to travel from the Vilpamolan peninsula to Adeluna. Between being in a new world, and Rynn's lack of magic, it took a great deal of Gideon's aid to unseal Rynn's draconic wings. Once they had been freed, though, the two made their way across the mountains with relative ease. Finally, they found themselves at once of the many entrances to the grand Adeluna.
"This reminds me of Uncle Rzek's kingdom," Rynn said, looking around at the vast intermingling of peoples going to and fro. Her gaze turned to the castle in the distance, and for a brief moment she felt a longing to go visit it.
Maybe after we find Jace, we can come back and see if we're allowed entry. "We should be careful not to get separated," she said, looking back at her partner. The two made their way through the streets, which held an eclectic mix of shops and stalls. Rynn made a mental note of a few in particular that she wanted to come back to visit once they were more situated. "Hey, Gideon…I know we're in a rush to find Jace, but I think it might be a good idea to stay here for awhile. At the worst, we can get a few odd jobs and gather real supplies. At best, it seems like a large local hub…we might find some information about Jace, or maybe a fallen star I could use."
It's not exactly what I had expected, but it's amazing none the less. Adeluna…
"First, we need to find an Inn to stay at. We should have just enough for, at bare minimum, a single room." Rynn said. She had made a bad habit out of stating her plans aloud. Many took this as her trying to force her leadership, but the reality was that Rynn simply remembered things better by stating them out loud. "After that, we should take the time to make a list of supplies that could help us in the long run. Lastly, would be securing funds to get those supplies. Though to be fair, I'm not sure our talents would land us here…"
