This day wasn’t one of Katerina’s best; everything was seeming to go wrong. Nikolaus was being framed; but by who? Katerina tried to make sense of everything that was happening. “Is he being framed? He has to be? What if there is a newborn vampire….No, that can’t be. There would of been so many more dead.” Her thoughts ran wild as the man before her spoke.

The wolf demon hadn’t felt at ease in a very long time; and being with the vampire did just that. He also made her believe she could love again; this time for real. Pushing the thoughts of him away, she couldn’t think of Jax in that moment. “Was my love for him even real? No. Stop that.” She cursed at herself for even thinking about that time in her life.

When the man turned and started to walk away, the wolf followed; she wasn’t going to leave it all up to the inspector. Katerina had to see this through to the end. “What if this is all a lie.” The wolf thought. “He better not be putting up an act or I will kill him.” This was part of the reason why she followed. She wasn’t going to give the guards a chance to frame Nikolaus.

The way to the Inn was quiet; her mind occupied with the thoughts of the night before. For a moment, she wanted to cry. “We will get through this.” She thought to herself. Katerina needed to stay strong.

As they arrived at the inn, she stopped for a moment outside while staring up at the window of the room they stayed at. When Winter’s spoke, his voice brought her back to reality. Her eyes narrowed at his request; more like command. He wanted to put her on a leash.. “Fine.” She agreed with reluctance then followed him inside.

The wolf stood behind the inspector; her eyes on the inspector. The wolf demon crossed her arms; he wasn’t happy to see her. When he spoke of their dinner, she gasped. “Verbena! You—” She automatically shut her mouth.. She couldn’t finish her sentence without hindering their investigation. Instead of speaking her mind, Katerina thought of every way she could kill him. When he gloated, she imagined ripping out his throat with her teeth. “Bastard.” She thought while she gave the man a death glare.

“You life won’t last long.” She finally spoke up after the inspector left. Leaning across the bar, her eyes flashed red. “It might not be today or tomorrow, but you will die by the hand’s of a….nonhuman. Not me, but you will. That is your fate.” She didn’t care when she saw that he was unfazed. She knew that her words would always be with him. Especially, on the day he dies. With that, she headed out the door.

“What now, inspector? Does this prove anything in your eyes?” Her words were a bit snippy, but she couldn’t help herself.

Predictably – almost agonizingly so – Ash’s temperament did little to soothe Katerina’s disposition on that windy morning in Adeluna. He had a knack for pissing off just about everyone he met thanks to his seemingly unyielding sense of justice and his opaque lack of social etiquette. One of his past co-workers had even remarked at one point that the young detective could make even the jolliest jester hate his guts if he caught by a single whiff of wrong doing. His sense of humor, sadly, was lacking by all accounts.

What he lacked in social goods, however, Mr. Winters more than made up for with his shrewd attention to detail. He never took anyone’s testimony at face value, always wanting to relentlessly confirm it with a third party before moving forward. For this reason, his next course of action following Katerina’s statement was just as foreseeable as his belligerent nature.

"Next, I go to confirm your story," he said with a straight expression. The young man turned on his heel away from Katerina immediately afterward, making a beeline toward the inn that he knew she had been staying at with Nikolaus from the police report. As he went, he moved his jaw in grinding motions, as if he were trying to chew on something invisible in his mouth: a bad habit he had developed over the years to deal with stress. He continued with that motion until he and Katerina arrived back at the inn, at which point he stopped to talk.

"A word of caution before we head in here," Winters spoke calmly but gruffly over his shoulder to the woman still following him. "No matter what the innkeeper says, do not attack him. If you do, they'll execute your husband immediately, and simply presume your violence as proof of his crimes. They’ll get reprimanded and punished, sure, but that won’t change the fact that your lover is dead." He talked as if he knew the man they were about to meet and as if he knew what he would say. In fact, the young, scraggly officer did know this character. He had visited this man regularly in the past for a drink and, more recently, for information. The innkeeper, whose name I care not to remember, would recognize him almost as soon as he saw that scraggly mess enter his bar once more.

"Yes, how can I – oh, Mr. Winters! Here for business or - ?" Unfortunately, he would also recognize Katerina mid-sentence, causing a rather uncomfortable silence until the fat cook spoke again. "What's she doing here?"

Ash had to be careful here, because, while this man was helpful for his profession, he disliked him on a personal level. This was one of the few people he didn’t want to piss off, even if what he really wanted to do was lock him in a cell and throw away the key. Sadly, the innkeeper was protected by the local guards who didn’t see eye to eye with the royal inspectors – especially not the newbie of their ranks. For better or worse, Mr. Winters had to be at least marginally cordial.

"She's a rather incessant tagalong, but that doesn't change that I'm here on business," he began. "You served this woman and her husband last night, yes? Well I need to know what exactly they had in their food, as strange as that request might sound."

Thankfully, the innkeeper was feeling cooperative today. He didn’t even ask for money before he answered.

"Aye. Cow's blood with oregano for the vampire. Beef stew with bread and cheese for her. Both spiked with verbena." Known among trained botanists in Revaliir, Verbena is a vampire killer. It is one of the few herbs that are actually poisonous to that race, provided a member ingests enough of a certain subspecies to render an effect. Ash recognized its name immediately during his conversation with the innkeeper, and his eye twitched as he tried to suppress his first instinct. The man in front of him had just admitted to attempted murder in front of an inspector; and yet he was not able to do anything about it. All he could do was confirm the statement and move on quietly.

"So you knew that the man was a vampire and you admit to trying to poison him and his spouse," the young Winters asked for clarification?

"More like I strongly suspected, what with the killings and all. Better safe than sorry since everyone's screaming vampire." With a smug grin, the innkeeper owned up to his crime, knowing no one was going to touch him. He even gloated about why that was in the follow-up. "Sides, if they drop dead from contact with an herb that's harmless to pretty much everyone else, it's not like you folks would come arrest me. Only good vampire's a dead one in this town. Even you know that, Inspector."

He was right, but only about the town. Ash didn’t share the racism inherent in many of his cohorts, but he recognized the grim reality of Adeluna. If you weren’t human in that town, a lot of officers would turn a blind eye toward crimes committed against you. It was a sad reality, but it was one the young detective worked against. He didn’t believe Nikolaus was guilty just because of his race; and now he had reason to believe Katerina was telling him the truth. He just hoped she wouldn’t make things worse by strangling the innkeeper and would, instead, follow him outside so they could talk.

“Thank you for your time.”

With the events happening around Katerina, she believed that the curse remained. The last time she cared about someone they died or left; her parents, her family of mercenaries', and Jax. She didn't want Nikolaus' name to join the rest. Would it ever end for Katerina? She hoped so; by engaging the help Winters, she wished to put an end to the cycle.

Tears threatened to fall down her eyes as she watched the vampire disappear. When Winters finally spoke, a thought passed through her mind, "I struck a chord." Thinking this, she crossed her arms over her chest. He didn't like the money she offered or that she was adamant about joining him. Either Winters would help her prove Nikolaus' innocence, or she'd break him out. "I will tare through this city to set him free." She thought while she eyed Winters.

Katerina almost wanted to smile at the detective's response. He accepted that she would join him, then shared his thoughts on the matter. The man was already starting to annoy her with his words; he was a jerk. He favored the law. Did he even care about love? Or family?

The questions he asked made her thoughts fade. With a nod, the wolf demon dropped her arms to her sides. "He usually drinks cows blood when he is here. It's the only blood he can get." She paused as she looked around the semi-empty streets. This town irritated her but is the closest for supplies.

Turning her attention back to Winters, she answered more. "He is a vampire. He doesn't eat any food. He has been ordering cow's blood the last few days. The barkeep usually puts a touch of oregano bloom in the blood to give it more flavor. Makes tolerable to drink." Her voice was on the edge of snapping at Winters. She didn't mean to, she was worried. Taking a deep breath to settle her nerves, she finally answered the last question. "Alcohol… That would be Brandy. Last night we had whiskey." This time her answer didn't present irritation.

"Now, what Is next? Or do you have additional questions?" She asked him, ready to follow him if he left the square.

And speak they did, but with words that did little to placate the scraggly man before them. Ash, while young, was more seasoned than most gave him credit for, and his appearance reflected that. His coat that he always wore had splotches of dried liquid on it that were indistinguishable from coffee or bloodstains, like he'd been in more than his fair share of scraps and late night stakeouts. Even his eyes looked nothing like a young, strapping detective; being just as hollow and dead as a veteran of the streets. He had seen his fair share of horrors, kept the ghosts of his career close; and so he remained just as grizzled and just as disillusioned as any other, senior officer of the watch.

For these reasons, it was no surprise that the pleas of the accused did little to move Mr. Winters this time around. Katerina and Nikolaus were already invoking a sense of distrust in him, because every time they mentioned escaping was yet another red flag to his experience. They talked like they would break Nikolaus out of jail even if he failed to prove his innocence, which was something Ash couldn't abide. What's worse, Katerina even mentioned bribing him for a favorable verdict after Nikolaus was taken away: an action that had him visibly wrinkling his nose.

"Don't try to bribe me," the inspector remarked before turning to face her. "Whether your husband is guilty or not, I will determine on my own; and no amount of reward after the case will affect my decision. Not to mention, paying me at all would be unethical if wasn't already completely illegal. I don't recommend it, nor do I recommend you try to offer me compensation again." Ash would have moved on with his investigation then, leaving Katerina in the dark, but then she tried to tag along rather insistently. He was forced to respond. "We? Who is this we?" Pausing, he looked Katerina in the eye and knew immediately what type of person he was dealing with. "Oh, I see," he continued, "You're the type who will follow me even if I told you not to. Fine. I guess you can stay for now. Just don't give me a reason to rescind that offer."

Winters didn't have a choice, in all honesty. The guards were an impatient lot and would execute Nikolaus if he wasn't proven innocent beyond all doubt by tomorrow morning. Ash didn't have time to fight with a wolf demon if he wanted to clear the vampire's name before then, even though he very much wanted to. In fact, he would rather throw her in a cell to keep her out of trouble; but, alas, he'd have to let her tag along for the time being and just keep an open eye on her. Better she was nearby where he could watch her, anyway, than somewhere he couldn't see.

"If you must know," he lamented with an irritated sigh at this realization. "I already suspect he didn't do it because his breath doesn't match the coroner's report. But, just to be certain, I need you to tell me what his favorite alcohol and herb are. Better yet, what did he have last night and the night before in terms of food and drink?"

There was a very particular reason that Ash asked these questions of Katerina. As mentioned earlier, the victims had the scent of rosemary and alcohol on their wounds. The alcohol in question was a highly concentrated ethanol: something that would have sent a human to the hospital had they ingested it. A vampire could theoretically drink it since their tolerance was higher, but neither the scent of that alcohol nor rosemary was on Nikolaus' breath when he spoke. The other alternative was that someone was using the alcohol to sterilize a pair of tools, but Ash had to narrow down the possibilities before he considered that in a racist town like Adeluna. If Katerina lied to him, he'd be able to double check with the innkeeper and have her arrested on the spot. If she proved trustworthy, however, he would have her tag along a while longer just to humor her incessant personality.

For a moment, the vampire denied what was happening. “Damnit, of course..” He thought to himself as they put the chains around his wrists. He tried to keep himself calm; nothing good could come from him trying to break free. His eyes moved to look at Katerina; she was being held back by two guards. The wolf demon knew better than anyone that he was innocent.

Thinking back, the vampire remembered the boy who spoke to them before. He had said that it was two barber workers. Nikolaus had to fight back at the sigh. He wanted to kill them last night, but he didn’t.

When the General made his comment, the vampire kept silent. He didn’t want to rile up the man more than he already was. Looking back to Katerina, she who trying to convince them all of his innocence. “Katerina.” He whispered under his breath with a frown. “If they have the chance to stake and burn a vampire. They will.” He thought and had to force himself not to narrow his eyes at the people around him.

Nikolaus always tried to move around the city unnoticed; every time he left safe. Ordering blood from the Inn wasn’t the smartest choice Nikolaus made, but he had forgotten to fill his flask up with blood before coming into the city. That was what he usually did, so he wouldn’t have to order any blood. He was extremely excited when he got the note from Katerina; he couldn’t wait to see her. He regretted skipping his preparations.

The General finally started to speak to the vampire. Nikolaus wanted to retort at him but wouldn’t say a word; he knew better. A smirk did come to his lips when another man joined the conversation. “You were put in your place.” The vampire thought to himself. When the General started to shout and was about to break down, the vampire finally decided to speak. “I might be the only vampire here, but, I am not the only one in existence.” Nikolaus understood the man’s pain more than anyone would know, but he didn’t tolerate behavior like General Herst. Hands gripped his arms tighter at his comment, making the vampire wince.

Nodding towards the new stranger, the vampire had confidence in him. Soon, the guards let him go, for just a moment, so he could kiss the woman he loved. Nikolaus spoke to the wolf demon, hoping she would find the real killer. She agreed and shared a kiss with him. “I’ll see you soon.” Was the last thing he said to her before the guards pulled him away. “Winters, I’m sure you will find the truth, and help ease the General. I know this won't bring his daughter or anyone else back, but they can have closure from having the real killer put to justice.”

With that, the vampire was escorted to the prison. Walking down the road, eyes were on the vampire. He didn’t care, he kept his head high as he made his way to the doors of the jail. When they entered, they didn’t just escort down the stairs to the bottom level. They didn’t put him in the upper-cell, but placed him into one in the basement. They threw him in the doors, but not before one of the guards punched him in the face. “Damnit..” Nikolaus cursed as he spit out some blood onto the wet stone floor. “You better learn to watch your mouth, you disgusting piece of filth. You will for damn sure burn tomorrow.” The guard slammed the iron cell door and laughed. No other words left the two guards as they left the vampire in the barely lit cell. “I’ve been in worse situations than this.” He said with a smirk as he leaned against the stone wall. Closing his eyes, the vampire pictured the night’s events with Katerina. He couldn’t wait to leave this cell and take her from the city.

The wolf demon smiled at the vampire beside her; breathless. “I still have to get my supplies.” She urged him. Katerina wanted to stay in bed with Nikolaus, but she had things to do. He soon agreed. Finally able to get the day moving, the dark haired woman got out of bed.

Nikolaus tried to start again, but Katerina wouldn’t have it; no matter how much she wanted him. Soon they were dressed and headed out the door. As they walked down the stairs of the Inn, the alpha could still feel her lover’s kiss all over her. Her mind was elsewhere for a few moments until he spoke. “Alright, that’s fine.” She agreed with a smile as she looped her arm with his.

They soon made their way down the road making their way toward the square. The streets were more quiet then usually, but the pair didn’t notice just yet; they were taking in the beautiful day. The sun was shining, the air was cool, and there wasn’t a cloud in site. After a few moments of silence, Katerina finally took notice to the silence. As she glanced around, she only saw a few people; it was like a ghost town.

Katerina’s arm stayed in Nikolaus’ as she continued to take his lead. Finally, he was able to stop someone and tried to find out what was going on. The boy, no older than eighteen, spoke of the thing that was killing people around the city; a vampire. It had been going on for two weeks. The wolf demon stayed quiet as she listened to his every word; her eyes glancing at Nikolaus. She knew he didn’t do anything, but she was still worried. The city didn’t take kindly to non humans.

The many footsteps and clinking armor was heard, making Katerina turn her eyes towards the me. The horrible feeling that rose within the wolf, she knew what was about to happen; she couldn’t stop it. “Nik–” Before she could say a word, the vampire was taken from her arms. “Nikolaus! He didn’t do anything!” She yelled as she reach out for him; anger rising within her.

Suddenly, strong hands gripped both her arms and pulled her away. “Let me go! He didn’t do anything wrong!” She yelled while trying to free herself from their hands. Looking down at the hands on her, she was ready to attack. The symbols on they’re armor stopped her. “Strength…Enchanted armor.” The wolf demon thought as she cursed under her breath. Who knew what other enchantments they had.

An order came from the General, making the men drop their hands from her. “He is innocent.” She said to the General again. He ignored her for a moment as he spoke to Nikolaus; the wolf demon didn’t like the sound of his voice. She wanted to claw out his eyes.

Before the General could speak to her, a new voice was heard over the square. Katerina’s eyes narrowed; she wasn’t in the mood for jests. As the man went on, her lips slowly smirked as she crossed her arms over her chest. “You tell him.” The dark haired woman thought to herself; she had to keep herself from laughing.

After Winters finished, Nikolaus was let go, even if for a moment. Katerina hands came up to cup his face as his shackles hung in between them. “Always something keeping us apart.” She whispered before his kiss was on her lips. “I will. I promise. No matter what, you will be free.” Those words were the last thing she was able to say to him before her lover was taken away.

The wolf demon watched until he was out of view to turn and look at the man called, Winters. “Mr. Winters is it? You are very into yourself. But I take that as you know that your good at what you do. Help me find the real killer, and I will pay you handsomely. I know for a fact Nikolaus is innocent. He wouldn’t do such a thing.” Her voice almost cracked at the end of her words, but she forced herself to hold it together. She would not get emotional, at least not yet.

“Also, he won’t fight you. He will tell you whatever you need to know. I’m sure of it.” Taking a deep breath, she turned toward the way they took before; toward the upper district. “I take it, we go to the last scene of the crime? Or to the mortuary?” She asked; ready to help prove Nikolaus’ innocence.

Numbers: a method for counting as well as diminishing. Throughout my many years and the tumults of time I have endured, I have seen great numbers pass. Others would call them people, but my aging mind has dehumanized the lot of them. Their lives were so finite, and their "eternal" constructs far too fleeting to leave a lasting impression.

And yet there are always those members who stand out from the crowd. Some people are hard to forget like that: Robin, for instance. They stick in your mind like peanut butter on the roof of a dog's mouth; sometimes for reasons you can't explain; and sometimes they're a bad joke that you remember when under pressure at an awkward party.

I recall one such person of the latter category who lived in Revaliir's Adeluna City: a young and rising star among the law enforcement of the world. His name was Ash Winters, but I did not meet him personally until after he had already left the employ of the crown. Before then, he was a Royal Inspector in service to High Queen Qendressa; one of many inside a corps of the highest trained law officials the empire had to offer. It was in this position that he looked over many cases: solving them as he went and filing paperwork in the evenings: an overall mundane existence.

One evening during this relatively boring lifestyle, however, Mr. Winters came across a case that would begin his transition to a more auspicious post. A general's daughter had been killed alongside three other civilians, so, of course, the guard was mobilized. Among the rosters of the Royal Inspectors, though, none chose to assist in the investigation. Most were either busy with other incidents abroad or had already determined the case was too simple a matter to bother with. After all, there were reports the perpetrator was already being apprehended, turned in by the innkeeper who had overheard him talking about his vampire characteristics.

Yet Ash was not as convinced as his colleagues seemed to be. He had been canvassing the city for witnesses whilst in his downtime between cases, and was also conversing with the coroner's office when he found some peculiarities about the bodies. According to the coroner, the bite marks on each of the corpses had the distinct smell of rosemary mixed with strong alcohol: almost like a potion of sorts. It was a small detail, but one that piqued the young detective's interest. For this reason, he found the scene of the arrest before it occurred, arriving just as the grieving general decided to let his rage get the better of him.

"I believe that is my judgment to make, general," the young man in shabby clothing said after his fellow officer decided to presume Nikolaus' guilt. He stepped forth from the opposite end of the street, cap guarding his face from the oncoming wind and a gloved hand holding said cap down. On his belt he wore an oversized insignia depicting his role in the Royal Inspector Corps, and t'was the sight of this that made the general sneer.

"Ugh. You would show up, Winters," the old man retorted with more than a hint of disdain. They knew each other; but obviously not on the best of terms. Still, Ash persisted, creating an overall odd dynamic where the younger man seemingly outranked the old codger.

"Show up to keep you from killing a man who is potentially innocent before a proper investigation is done? I believe that's my job description, so I'll take your word as, 'You would be this dedicated, wouldn't you, Mr. Winters.'" He put extra emphasis on the Mr. part of his statement, for Ash hated when people knew of his title but chose to refer to him in a disrespectful manner just because of his age. He normally didn't assume that was the intention of people who did, but the general was a special case. For this, and because of their previous history, Ash decided to shove a metaphorical boot up the old man's ass. "And need I remind you, General Herst, that, except under special circumstances, law officers are to recuse themselves from a case if it is obvious their emotions will get the better of them? That means, if Mr. Nikolaus here is to hang, you won't be the one presiding over his fate."

As expected, the general fumed from this statement, for it effectively meant he was off the case. "He's the only vampire," he shouted in helplessness, revealing his emotional compromise! "He's the only one that could have killed her! Could have killed my Autumn…" The general finally broke down in tears, moving to the next stage of grief. He knelt down in front of Mr. Winters a broken man, forcing Ash to have the other guards help him to return home.

"He's an obvious target for a grieving man," Ash said before the general's men took him back home. "You know as well as I that that's not good enough proof to condemn him to death." Finally turning his attention back to Nikolaus and Katerina after this incident, the young detective continued with his intentions laid bare. "That said, lack of evidence, in this case, doesn't mean lack of guilt. You're not destined for the gallows yet – or, in your case, burning at the stake – , but only provided that you help me prove your innocence, Nikolaus. Fail to cooperate on that front and you'll be locked away for a long time; a very long time."

The guards accompanying the vampire adjusted his shackles then to accommodate for his recent escape. They secured the implements with a rod that had been sanctified to nullify a vampire's strength, reducing Nikolaus to a normal man who could be overpowered by a group of human guards if necessary. Afterward, they would take him further into the city, but, for now, he was allowed to speak alongside his girlfriend.

The vampire hadn’t slept this well in a very long time. His eyes soon opened hearing her soft feet on the wooden floor. Being a vampire, he could hear just about everything. His eyes watched her standing at the window looking out. “She’s so peaceful..” He thought to himself but didn’t move. “Kat..” He thought her names as his mind thought of the night before. He didn’t know what to think of the relationship they had but didn’t want to make a decision just yet.

Sitting up in bed, his movements quiet, he slipped on his undergarment then moved towards her. The vampire’s arms circled the wolf demon before him. His eyes looked down at her when she looked back at him. His lips planted a kiss on hers before smiling. “Good morning, what are you thinking about?” He asked her; his voice soft. After he answered he couldn’t help but feel happy as well.

Nikolaus smirked as he leaned down and picked the wolf demon up by her thighs. “I’m glad.” He said before kissing her again. Before she could protest, the vampire laid her back in the bed. His lips left her’s and trailed down down her neck. “Mmm. I say we stay in bed all day.” He said in between kisses down her chest were the shirt was open. The comment made her giggle and say no.

“Then all morning.” He said while pulling up his shirt. Right when he saw her breasts, his lips kissed around the nipple. This time she didn’t protest but absorbed the pleasure. After he kissed around her nipple, he skipped licking it like before and sucked. Her moan made his manhood grow hard. A moan escaped his lips feeling her warmth between her legs.

The force of her pushing him onto his back made his mouth release her nipple. “Kat.” He said with a smirk as she straddled him. Leaning down, the wolf demon kissed and bit his neck. His moans filled the air when she finally made it to his member. Her mouth took her and sucked. After a few moments, she made her way back up to his lips. Kissing him with force, the wolf demon grabbed his manhood and lowered herself on him.

This went on just about all morning; moans, switching positions, and kisses. Katerina fell on her back after a few hours; feeling breathless. “Now we have to go.” She had said with a laugh. “Okay. Okay.” Nikolaus rolled over on his side and leaned down to kiss her lips. It was the afternoon, the crowds in the square were going to be hectic.

“Let’s go then.” He whispered against her lips before she kissed him once more. Breaking the deep kiss, he smiled down at her as they locked eyes. The vampire couldn’t deny his feelings; he was falling for the wolf demon and didn’t want to stop it. Her soft voice broke him out of his trance. “Okay.” He agreed while he got up out of bed. As he put on his undershorts, his eyes looked at her. She was putting on her stocking and undergarments. Taking a step towards her, his hand moved her hair from the back of her neck. Seeing her now bare neck, he laid a kiss on it. His hand came around to hold her as he began to kiss her neck. Hearing his name, he stepped back and let her go. “Alright.” He said with a small laugh then finished putting on his clothing.

When they both finished dressing, they headed out the room and down the stairs. “We can get something while we're out.” He said as he looped her arm with his and walked out the door of the Inn.

It wasn’t long until they were walking into the square. It was almost bare besides a few people. Stopping in front of one that was rushing through the square, he held up his hand. “A moment, Sir. Where is everyone?” The vampire asked as he motioned around the square. The young man looked at him and pointed toward the higher district of the city. “Haven’t you heard. Two of the barber shops workers were killed last night in an alley. They say that they were drained of blood, just like the guards daughter they found yesterday, and the two before her. They say it's a vampire.. I’m sorry, Im on my way to see them get the bodies now.” The youngster rushed by them with a nod and hurried up the stone street.

Turning towards Katerina, he sighed. “Well, Ready to catch a killer?” He asked knowing this would get in between their time together.

Before she could agree on anything, the sound of armor was heard. Before he knew it, the vampire was torn away from Katerina. “What is going on here?!” He yelled at the men around him. “There has been a vampire killing people for the last 2 weeks. And you are the only vampire in these parts.” The general from the day before walked before the vampire. “Let her go.” He said looking over his shoulder towards the men who held the wolf demon. “You are charged with murder. Vampire.” The general leaned towards Nikolaus with red ringed eyes. “You killed my daughter, you son of a bitch, you will hang.”

Hearing Katerina yell, at the general, Nikolaus called her name. “Katerina. Just find the real killer.” He pulled free of the guards for one moment to lay a kiss on her lips. “Find the killer.” He said against her lips before the guards grabbed him once more and escorted him towards the jail.

Feeling his lips on hers, the wolf demon’s arms circled his neck. Before she knew it, Katerina was on the bed. The warmth spreading between her legs was almost unbearable as they kissed. Her clothes were soon taken off her and she laid bare before him. Nikolaus had looked at her with such want in his eyes, that she didn’t know what to do for a moment and just lock eyes with him. “Nikolaus..” She whispered in the darkness. The vampire responded by kissing her passionately.

As he kissed his way down, Katerina couldn’t control her moans any longer. She had never had a man do the things he did so well. “Nikolaus..” She moaned as she was forced into bliss. After he entered her, Katerina’s hands came up around him and to his back. Her nails tore into his back, he moaned and kissed her in response.

Some time passed before the two were finally asleep in each other's arms. Katerina found warmth in his cold embrace while she slept peacefully.

Dreams of him soon came to her, but they were gone as she blinked her eyes at the rising sun. For a moment, the wolf demon laid there in his arms; not wanting to move. Her eyes looked up to see his sleeping face, this made a smile appare on her lips. She couldn’t believe how happy she was. “It finally happened.” She thought to herself then sat up slowly in bed. She didn’t want to wake him.

Walking over to a nearby chair, Katerina grabbed his white shirt that was draped over the arm. Slipping it over her head, it hanged off her body just slightly; she didn’t want to put her clothes on just yet. Her eyes looked over his coat, he still hand the cotton trench coat, even from before. Her hand seemed to move on it's one, reaching and touching the coat. Her finger felt the soft fabric. A smile lined her lips as she thought about the one time she wore it.

Katerina stepped back from the chair and walked towards the window. As she stood there, her hands slowly moved to the necklace around her neck. She twirled her around her fingers as she watched the sky slowly brighten. Her mind went back to the night before; the kisses, moans, and everything in between. The thoughts brought a soft smile to her lips.

The wolf demon didn’t hear the man get out of bed, only strong arms around her waist. His smell engulfed her once more as he leaned down and kissed her cheek. “Good morning.” Said the Alpha as she turned to look up at him. A short kiss was planted on her lips, before he spoke. "That I am really happy right now." She said as she turned around to look at him. A smile lining her lips as he picked her up. Leaning down, the wolf kissed the vampire again while he brought her back to the bed, "I have shopping to do today." She said with a soft moan as he began to kiss her neck.

It only had been a few hours since the vampire went to bed. Instead of a peaceful sleep like he usually had, it was restless. He had little sleep and tossed and turned for most of it. “Dammit.” He cursed at himself as he finally sat up. He would get like this when he had little human blood. Also, the thoughts of Katerina adding to it. She hadn’t left his mind the whole time. He was trying to figure out how he was going to make his feelings known. Or if he even should.

Hazel vampire eyes moved to the window on the right side of his bed. He could barely see the stars because of the buildings, but it was enough to take his mind off Katerina, even if for a moment. “Katerina.. Why do you have me in knots..” He thought to himself and ran his hands through his hair. Holding his hands there for a moment, he hung his head down.

“If I would of let you kiss me back then… everything could of been different.” He thought to himself. It took centuries for the vampire to know his true feelings about his warrior princess. The moment she tried to kiss her when she was only a teen, he had pushed her away. “I can’t…” He had told her. “You can’t. You mean you wont.” She cursed at him and stormed away, transforming and runnin off. That moment tore them apart and she was soon with the mercenaries he trusted.

Nikolaus eyes shot up to someone entering his room. Being so wrapped up in Katerina, he had forgotten to lock the door. It was her who stood there looking at him on the bed. Nikolaus couldn’t wait any longer, he had to make his feelings known to her. Using his vampire speed, he tossed his sheets off and ran to her in a blur. His lips were on hers in seconds.

Not realizing what he did till he tasted her lips, he pulled away. His eyes looked into hers, and found them wanting. “Kat..” He whispered then kissed her once more. His hands moved from her shoulders to her back, pushing her up against him as he kissed her passionately. Her hands found their way around his neck then up into his hair.

Moving his hands down her back, he ran them down her butt then picked her up from behind. Katerina’s legs automatically wrapped around his waist to help hold herself up. Their lips never left each other, but their tongue’s touched. Still holding her in his hands, the vampire moved towards the bed, but this time not forgetting to lock the door first. Finding the bed, he laid her down softly and broke their kiss. Her eyes looking into her blue ones, making sure that she wanted to keep going. With no protest from her, he looked down and undid her belt. Then with a smile, he kissed her again.

The corset was a bit tricky to get off at first, but with some support from Katerina, her belt and corset were soon on the floor. Katerina was the one to break the kiss this time as she moved back to lay against the pillows. The vampire was about to follow, but instead stopped slowly run his hands up her legs to her shorts. Pulling the shorts along with the skirt above and underwear she wore off. He through them on the side of the bed. His hands soon made their way up to her short and pulled it over her head.

Taking a moment, the vampire pulled away to look at the beauty before him. Her skin seemed to glow every so slightly in the little starlight that shown through the window. Nikolaus eyes found their way to Katerina who was looking at him with lust. He couldn’t help but kiss her again. Hearing her moan into his lips made his member grow hard with want as it pressed against her womanhood. Only his cloth shorts in between them.

Nikolaus moved his lips from hers and trailed kisses down her next to her breasts. He didn’t move to suck the nipples yet, first he kissed around her each breast and licked both nipples. This made another moan escape the wolf demon beneath him. “Nikolaus..” She breathed out while arching her back. He didn’t want to take her just yet, he wanted to have their first time be slow.

When he finished with her breasts, he moved down her stomach. Trailing kisses all the way down to her navel and to her thighs. Kissing where the lace stockings stopped to the inside of her upper legs, he hovered above her womanhood for a moment. His eyes watched as she arched her back and her eyes closed. His tongue stuck out of his mouth and slowly licked her warmth.

For a few moments, he was there licking and tasting every bit of her, and listening to her moans. After she climaxed, he whipped his mouth with the back of his hand then kissed her lips again. Her laid on his chest for a moment before moving downward. Her fingers hooked his undergarment and pulled down. It was his time to moan this time as her hand grabbed onto his manhood and place it inside her.

The moment he entered her they both moaned once more and fell into bliss. After an hour or so, they both finally fell into bed together side by side. Nikolaus arms circled her as she laid on his chest; breathless. “Well worth the wait. Wasn’t it?” He asked with a smile and kissed her head.

After a few moments, they both were soon fast asleep.warm and comfortable in each other’s arms.

Katerina dreams seemed to be a mixture of the past, and of the future. Some were also odd ones she would never understand. Tonight though, after her drinking binge, was of the past. She appeared in the meadow in the plains. Looking down at herself, she was only a teenager. “Ready?” The vampire asked as he tossed her a wooden sword. Her eyes looked over him for a moment. He had only a pair of pants on, bare feet, and bare chested. She had never seen a man like this before, so it took her off guard. “Ready.” She said pushing those thoughts away and took her stance.

Raising his sword up, Nikolaus came at her. Katerina blocked one, then another. She missed one she thought was coming at her, but it hit her in the side. Pain shot through the spot where he got her, leaning over she moaned in pain. “You left your right side open. Don’t raise your elbow too high. Let’s go again.” Nikolaus paced before her while pointing his sword at her. “Well… Common!” Again he came at her. This time the wolf demon listened, her anger fueling her determination. This time it was her time to hit him. “Ahh.. Good. Now do it again.” He said with a smile. He could tell she was making progress.

“My first crush.” She thought to herself as she blinked her eyes open. Katerina rolled over to her back and stared up at the ceiling. “What happened last night?” She thought to herself and looked around. Nikolaus was nowhere in the room, and her boots were off? Sitting up in bed, she looked out the window; it was still dark.

“Nik..” The wolf demon whispered as she crawled out of bed towards towards the window. She stared outside at the night stars. Memories of their past together ran through her mind. He was the only man that was really there for her. “You didn’t expect anything in return.” She said aloud to herself. “Didn’t even accept my kiss.” She laughed a bit at this, before her smile left her lips. Reaching up, she ran her finger over her necklace. The star and gems of the elemental’s. “Will you now?” She thought to herself. WIth her final decision, she left her room. Leaving her boots behind.

Reaching the hallway, she paused at his door that was across the hall from hers. For a moment she was sure, but now that she was at his door, she froze. It was as if she was that teenage girl, asking a man to want her.

Slowly, she turned the doorknob and entered the room. The room was dark when she stepped in and closed the door behind her. Her eyes instantly found the bed and Nikolaus sitting up in it. “Niko-” Before she could finish his name, his lips was on hers.

After Nikolaus asked Katerina why she was here, she answered. A smile curved on his lips at his thought. “I’m glad she did….wait! Amare?” He didn’t bother asking her now about the woman. Instead, the vampire poured them both a drink. “Whiskey is the best. Great thing about being a vampire, it takes awhile for it to hit you. If at all.” He said with a laugh and took a sip of the alcohol; the liquid warming him.

Some time later, they had gone through a few bottles of liquor. He didn’t realize that the wolf demon could hold her alcohol. When she was with him before, they never drank together. Now, he knew for sure he couldn’t kiss her. It wasn’t him, he couldn’t take advantage of her in such a way. “I think it's time to head to bed.” He said as he looked around the quiet bar. There was only a few people left. “I think you had too much.” He said with a laugh as he stood. His body felt warm but and he felt a bit buzzed, but nothing too bad like his companion.

Katerina’s comment, made the vampire laugh. She had been slurring for the passed hour and talking about her children a lot. His eyes looked away for only a moment as he was about to throw some coins on the table. He stop mid hand in his pocket as he saw her falling to the ground. Vampire speed was his best friend in that moment, as his body blurred in his movements. He caught her just in time before she fell to her doom.

“You can’t walk.. I’ll carry you.” He said with a smile and picked her up in his arms. Turning to look over his shoulder, he looked over at the waitress who was cleaning up a table nearby. “I’ll pay for the meal in the morning.” His words made her nod with a smile. With a wave to go to bed from the waitress, the vampire headed up the stairs.

“You can’t hold you—” He was about to make a joke, but the sound of her soft breaths hit his ears. Glancing down, he smiled; she had fallen asleep. “To bed with you.” He said softly and walked down the hall to her room. It was the last door to the left and his to the right. Using the keys the waitress had gave him earlier that day, he unlocked the wolf demon’s door.

The room was just like the ones he always stayed in. One bed, a dresser, and a washroom. Moving to the bed, he laid her down softly; not wanting to wake her. His eyes saw the flap of her shorts move to the side, showing her stockings and thigh in full view. Swallowing, he pushed his thoughts away and began to take off her boots. Knowing all too well how uncomfortable it was. Right before he took off her last boot, the wolf demon whispered to him. “I missed you too. More than you know.” He whispered to her while leaning down and kissing her forehead. Grabbing the throw blanket on the edge of the bed, he draped it over her then started to walk out of the room. “Goodnight, Kat.” The vampire whispered and went into his room.

“Dammit.” Nikolaus cursed at himself. “Why did I get the alcohol…” Flopping on the bed, he stared up at the ceiling above. “We did have a good time though…” He whispered. Sitting back up, he didn’t realize how tired he was until that moment. Taking off his hat, he laid it on the dresser and tossed his coat on the chair, along with his pants and shirt. Leaving his undershorts on, he climbed into bed and closed his eyes. Sleep taking him.

When Katerina hugged the vampire, she didn’t know what it would mean. She didn’t regret one thing. She buried herself into his chest and didn’t want to leave. She wanted to stay there for a lifetime. Inhaling deeply, she signed; comfortable. A small smile started to make it's way on her lips.

She didn’t know how much time had passed until suddenly the bell ringing made her jump. Stepping back, she let the barber move around her. She smiled with a small wave after Nikolaus said his farewell to John as well. After a moment,Katerina heard the vampire speak. “Sure. That would be great.” She said with a smile and looped her arm in his. They soon made their way back to the Inn.

Katerina didn’t speak to the vampire, and he didn’t speak either. They were both wrapped up in their thoughts about each other. “I can’t fall for him… I just can’t. If I do.. What if it doesn’t work out again? What if these emotions aren't real like before…” Katerina reprised a sigh and continued on her way up the steps and into the inn.

They were lucky to find a free table in the corner. Taking a seat across from Nikolaus, the waitress soon made her way to them. He had ordered his usual blood. “How can he drink that stuff…?” She thought to herself then pushed those thoughts away to order. “Whatever soup you have on special and also some bread.” The woman spoke saying the soup was clam chowder. “That's great. Thanks.” With that the woman left them.

The two were still quiet, Katerina was about to speak but the woman was already out with their food. “Thank you.” Katerina said with a smile then began to eat her food. The quietness between them was about to get to her. That was until the vampire spoke. Katerina looked up at him and smiled. “Amare kicked me out of the house to get the normal supplies. Plus, she heard about a murderer in town and thought I can get to the bottom of it. I think the guards will get the person before I do.” The wolf demon said they began to finish her food.

When the waitress came with the alcohol, she put two mugs on the table and left the bottle. “Whiskey, huh? You never change.” She said with a smile and grabbed the mug. Taking a quick sip, she let the warm liquid flow down her neck. It had been awhile since she drank and she thought it was high time to.

After a few bottles of whiskey, and a few hours later, they finally decided it was time to retire. “I’m not dru..nk.” Katerina said with a giggle as she stood. Her eyes was just about to widen as she saw the floor coming way too close to her face.

Strong arms suddenly came around her. “I think you drank more than me.” Nikolaus joked and picked her up in his arms. “Thank you…” She said into his ear as he carried her up the stairs. The vampire spoke to someone behind him, but the wolf demon didn’t catch what was said. Ignoring it, she laid her head onto his chest.

Falling asleep there, she only awoke when he laid her in bed and started to take off her boots. “I missed you, Nik…” She whispered as her eyes closed once more. Darkness taking her to her dreams.

While outside the barber shop, Nikolaus listed to the conversation inside. He almost laughed when she mentioned her name. Some people didn’t like a big age gap. Katerina’s comment made the vampire laugh a bit, but the way the man acted angered him. His eyes narrowed soon after seeing the two men walk out the door. The vampire watched the two walk towards a nearby alley. All of him wanted to follow them and kill them.

Pushing off the wall, he followed them towards the alley. He only moved about ten feet before he stopped. “Damnit. What are you thinking…” He said to himself under his breath. Turning around, he moved back towards the shop. Trying to ignore the feeling inside him.

It had been some time before Katerina emerged from the shop. He was shocked for a moment as his eyes stared at the old girl he used to know. Only she was older and more mature. Her figure was much more prominent now then before. His words caught in his throught, he couldn’t say a word about the beauty before him. It wasn’t until she threw her arms around his neck, he broke out of his trance.

“Katerina..” He whispered as his arms circled her waist. He pulled her close in a deep hug, his head leaning down in the crook of her neck to soak up her scent. “This color has always suited you better.” Nikolaus commented as he held her close. She didn’t move from the embrace, and he didn’t either.

They stood there for a moment until the ring of the bell woke them from that moment. Stepping back away from each other, he smiled at her. He glanced over her shoulder and waved at the barber leaving his establishment. “Have a good day.” The vampire waved at the barber as he walked away from the store. With a smile, the barber return the wave and wished them a good day as well.

“Let’s go have dinner and a drink?” Nikolaus said with a smile. This time the wolf demon put her arm in his and began to walk beside him. A soft smile curved on the vampire’s lips, enjoying the company of the wolf.

The walk was quiet, Nikolaus couldn’t help but think about the woman beside him. Should he move forward with the kiss? Should he walk away? He wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. “It's been so long…” He thought to himself as he took a glance at the wolf beside him. It had been a very long time since he had been with a woman; sexually that is. Even longer for being in love with someone. The vampire knew that he was falling for Katerina, but didn’t know what to do about it. “What if she doesn’t feel the same?” He was never one to act this way, even with his first wife. He knew what he wanted then, so he took it.

His eyes looked at the windows of the inn, many people were there. “Hopefully, we can find a seat.” He said as they walked up the steps then inside.

When the doors opened, it didn’t like it smelt like before. Now, it smells of sweat and grim; the people of the docks were now off work till early morning. Not minding the smell, they found an open table near the corner of the Inn, where no one really sat. When the waitress came over they ordered. “Cows blood for me, and whatever the lady wants.” He said with a smile to Katerina.

After she ordered, it wasn’t long before the meal was brought out to them. “Can I have some whiskey as well?” He asked and was surprised Katerina wanted the same. After a few sips of his blood, and Katerina had ate some of her food, he finally spoke. “Why did you need to come here? Supply run?” He asked wondering.

Katerina stared at him wide eyed. How could she not have thought of dye! “Your a genius.” She said with a smile. “I didn’t think about that.” She dropped her hands from her hair; excited. “Let's do it!” She was too excited to contain it she looped her hand around his arm and headed with him to the upper class area. She was quiet as she looked around the people who walked the streets. This was her life long ago. He was right with his comment. They were people talked about each other but never said anything to someone’s face.

As they entered the barber shop, she smiled at the barber. “Hello.” She said with a small cursy. Her demeanor suddenly changed around the people the vampire left her with. As she sat down in the chair, the barber draped a piece of cloth over her shoulders. “How do you do?” She asked the gentlemen sitting beside her on the next chair. His eyes turned and he set down his book. “Hello, Miss. Why are you dying your head black? Red suits you very much.” The man asked and leaned on the arm of the chair. “I want my natural hair color back. A little mix up with some potions and it turned red.” She said with a smile. “Magic always causes trouble if you ask me.” The man on the next chair said as he put down his own book.

“Magic is only trouble for inexperienced users. I was just around an inexperienced user.” Katerina’s words were sharp. She hated when people judge without knowing the facts. The man grumbled something under his breath while he grabbed his book again and started to read to ignore them. “Don’t mind him. He is a grump.” The man said with a smile as he continued to lean on the arm of the chair. “I haven’t seen you around these parts. Where are you from?” He asked her trying to catch her interest. Katerina wanted to sigh. Her eyes moved towards the doorway. Nikolaus wasn’t there. Then she spotted him through the stain glass window. He was still there; waiting for her. This brought a smile to her face, and then she replied to the man. As she spoke, she felt the wetness move through her hair. “I’m originally from Nisshoki.” She said then closed her eyes. “Oh! I know some people there. What is your name? Maybe I know you’re family.” The man just wouldn’t let up. This almost aggravated the wolf, but she kept calm.

“Silverstein.” She said without looking at him. The man gasped as his eyes widened. “That family was put to death a long time ago. There is stories about them…. That was.. Over a thousand years ago.” He almost stuttered out his words as he spoke. Katerina eyes opened as she raised an eyebrow. “Interesting, isn’t it?” She said with a smirked. The man stood from his chair and backed up. “I have to go John. I’ll be there in the morning.” He was so opened to talking to her, but now he was about to run out of the store. “Magic causes trouble.” The grump said again and stood. “Night, John.” He said with a wave then left after the man.

“I’ve seen people young and old. You keep your age well. You are definitely more than what you seem.” The barber leaned down with a wink, his eyes seemed to glow for a moment then went back to normal. Katerina and John automatically laughed at this.

It was now after sundown after her hair was finally finished. A great smile lit her lips as she stared at the dark haired woman in the mirror. “Thank you so much!” She said and almost hugged the man, instead she curtsied. The barber nodded. “It fits you well.” He said then waved goodbye; it was time to close up.

Katerina waved once more then walked out. Nikolaus was still leaning beside the door when she exited the shop. “Nikolaus. I don't’t know how to thank you.” She threw her arms around him in a tight hug. His smell engulfed her and his hair tickled her cheek.

Nikolaus couldn’t believe the day he was having. He had never been this close to the wolf demon, never even thought of kissing. Back then, she was just a child, only seventeen and naive. Now, she was a woman. Full grown along with all of the qualities. Especially the womanly ones. “Why the hell am I thinking about that.” He thought to himself when they stopped.

The way she was dressed, he couldn’t help himself to look at her curves. The little bit of skin showing at her thigh due to the short skirt and stockings was driving him nuts. He had to use all his will to keep listening to her. “I miss it too. But the red suits your soul. You are fiercely fiery.” He said with a smile. His eyes caught sight of her cleavage as he stared at her hair. Clearing his throat, he took his eyes off her and looked around. “I know there is a barber around the upper class section that can do your hair black if you really want it?” He said as his eyes trailed back to her.

For a moment she was shocked, she didn’t know people could dye their hair. “I’ll show you. It will work no matter what potions are in your hair.” He said with a smile and lead her to the upper class side.

When they arrived on the streets of the nobles. It was like they were in a different world. Fancy dresses and men in tuxes. They were all well groomed and smiled politely at everyone. That was until some had their back to them and then there were whispers. “Only reason why I dont come here. People can’t say anything to your face.” The vampire commented and lead her towards the barber.

When they entered the few men in there turned to look at them. One a barber who made his way towards them. “What can I help you with?” The man asked as he cleaned off his hands with a rag. “We need you to dye this ladies hair black.” Nikolaus didn’t wait for Katerina to pull out her coinpurse, he did it. Handing the man some coins, plus some extra. The man nodded and motioned for the wolf demon to follow him.

Seeing that she was well taken care of, the vampire walked outside. His eyes watched as the people moved through the streets. Lighting up his pipe, he figured that it was going to take awhile for her hair to be done, so decided just to wait outside the door. He could hear her make small talk with the barber and the men around her. “You hit on her, I will rip out your throat.” Nikolaus was surprised by his own thoughts and tried to keep them away.

Katerina couldn’t help but have her mind wander as they walked through the streets. Her mind went to her children. Even though she was having a great time with her friend. She still missed them. Her heart still worried for her eldest, but she knew Kiyomi could take care of herself.

Her thoughts were soon forced away as she heard the music and saw the people dancing. Before she could say a word, the vampire pulled her onto the dancefloor. “Nikolaus! I don’t dance!” She said while she tried to walk off, but the vampire twirled her instead. “Common. I don’t want to dance.” She wasn’t one to dance, or really have fun like this. She spent most of her life traveling. Besides when she is home, her idea of fun is tea parties with her children.

For a moment she resisted the dancing as much she could, then seeing him laugh and smile at her. She caved. The wolf demon let herself to feel the happiness from having fun. Dancing with Nikolaus was so fun. She would mess up and almost trip, and he would catch her. Or he would and she would catch him. They didn’t know half the dances that the others were doing. They would make up their own dance.

She didn’t know how many songs had passed before they made their way off the dancefloor. She was breathless as she laughed a bit more. Her eyes soon found his after he spoke. But the smile on her lips didn’t leave. She was happy. She was happy with the vampire before her. “It was.” She agreed with his words. As they stared into each other’s eyes, the wolf demon had such an urge to kiss Nikolaus.

Katerina was about to say his name but before she could, Nikolaus was bumped into her. “Hey..” She was about to cuss the man out, but Nikolaus seemed okay with it. The man apologized and wished them a good day. The vampire had agreed with the man and soon took her arm and walked her out of the crowd. “My hair?” She smiled at the memory. No matter how much she hated Nat sometimes for curtain situations, she cared for the fox like a sister.

“It wasn’t by choice.” She said with a frown. “I followed my friend into Salem and when I sat down for a little rest…. Well.” She paused for a moment before she sighed. “I sat outside a man apothecary's shop. It blew up and the potions hit me. It changed my ice powers to fire and holy light. I can use the elements of earth a little, but i’m still practicing.” She stopped and pulled a strand of hair infront of her face. “I miss my black hair though..I tried every potion I could think of to get it back. But nothing worked.” A sigh left her lips as she ran her fingers through the ends of her hair. “I would do anything to have it back.” She whispered. Her eyes soon made they’re way up to the man before her. His eyes were soft; understanding. This brought a small smile to her lips.

Nikolaus didn’t know what to expect in that moment after he asked. She could of yelled and screamed at him about the situation. Instead, a very warm hand grabbed his own. If he could breath, the vampire would of held his breath for that entire moment. His eyes met hers and he couldn’t take them away. How could he remove his eyes from such beautiful blue ones. “I want to kiss her..” Her thought to himself while he continued to look in her eyes.

Katerina soon joked about Angelique. This brought him back to reality for just a moment. “Yes, she is very much.” He said with a smile. He made no attempt to remove his hand, and she did the same. His other hand move to cover theirs and slowly moved his thumb to rub her skin softly. He couldn’t think of anything in that moment as he looked into her eyes. He didn’t even noticed that the waitress had asked them something. It wasn’t until she cleared her throat, that he finally noticed her.

The vampire cleared his throat and moved his hands back to their original places. He was a bit disappointed that Katerina had removed her hands. Looking up to the waitress, he was about to speak, but the wolf did first. When his eyes returned to her, she wasn’t sitting anymore. She had asked for two rooms and the vampire nodded. Before the wolf could put down any coins, he did. A smirk lined his lips as he looked at her and spoke. Standing from his chair, he left with the wolf demon out of the Inn.

When he arrived on the porch, his eyes turned to Katerina. Her fiery red hair seemed to show the fire she had inside herself. He smiled at the thought. The wolf demon soon spoke to him and the vampire nodded. “Why not?” He thought to himself and grabbed her hand then looped it through his arm.

They began to walk to streets of Adelun in silence. The crowd from earlier had dispersed and the city was back to normal. “Cities like this always are quick to go back to normalcy..” The vampire said aloud as they walked the busy square. Towards the end of the square, they walked towards a group gathered around. The music that was played filled the air, especially the laughter and clapping.

As they grew closer to the small crowd, Nikolaus saw the people dancing in the middle. Some would join and others would leave the stage with a smile. Not even asking her, Nikolaus pulled Katerina onto the wooden dance floor. He knew that she didn’t like to dance, but she needed to have some fun. When she started to protest, he twirled her around then joined the dancers who moved in a circle. Soon the protest turned into laughs and smiles Nikolaus couldn’t help but join in with her.

After some time dancing, they finally moved off the dance floor laughing. “That was splendid.” He laughed out. Katerina was breathless and couldn’t help but smile at him. Time seemed to stop for a moment as they looked into each other's eyes. It felt like forever that the stood there. That was until Nikolaus was bumped from behind and pushed into Katerina. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t see you there, sir.” The man said aloud with a pat on the vampire shoulder. The man also had a woman on his arm. Nikolaus nodded at the stranger then looked back at Katerina. “Have a good day.” The man called as he walked away from the crowd.

“He has a good idea.” Nikolaus said as he took Katerina’s arm in his once more. “Let’s get out of here.” He said with a smile then headed away from the crowd. “So I keep wanting to ask.” He said with a pause. “Why red?”

Katerina frowed at the mention of his son. “You never told me about him..” She whispered into her stew. She had lost her appetite. Putting her spoon down, she placed her hands in her lap and looked at him while he spoke. She didn’t know what to say, all she wanted to do was hug him. The wolf demons heart ached for a moment. The thought of losing her kids, any of them, would break her. How could he go on living? Then the moment hit her, he was never living.

The moment he spoke of Angelique, her eyes widened. He had made her cousin into a vampire. She didn’t know weather to be grateful or angry. If it wasn’t for him, she would have never had met her. Or even see her uncle as happy as he was. She decided to choose grateful. When he finished speaking he finally asked her if she was angry. Looking into his eyes, she smiled and reached over the table to grab his hand. His hand automatically open to accept.

“No, I’m not mad. If it wasn’t for you….I would never had met her.” She almost laughed when she remembered their first meeting. “She is a bit into herself, isn’t she?” She asked with a laugh. He agreed. She felt his hand softly covering hers which made her eyes look down at them. Slowly her eyes looked back up into his. His touch was cold, but it seemed to cool down her hot skin. Ever since her change in powers, she always was hot.

“Excuse me.” The waitress cleared her throat as she stood there beside the table. Her appearance made the wolf demon retract her hand to her lap. “Yes?” Asked Katerina while she took her eyes from Nikolaus to look at the woman. “Will you be staying tonight and would like a room?” She asked while glancing at Nikolaus then back at Katerina. “Oh! Yes. Two night’s…. And two rooms.” Katerina felt foolish in that moment when she asked for two rooms. The woman before her seemed to think they were staying in one room. The wolf demon just wanted to make it clear that they weren't. She wasn’t ready. “What if…That spell or potion is still in me…” She thought to herself as she stood from her chair.

Before she could lay out any coins, Nikolaus did and stood with her. “For lunch and our rooms, thank you ma’am.” He said with a smile then followed Katerina out onto the porch of the Inn. “Let’s go for a walk?” She asked him. He obliged her while grabbing her arm to loop it in his. This made a smile come to her lips.

Nikolaus smiled as he listened to Katerina speak about her daughters. His eyes watched as her color came back to her face and her eyes seemed to brightened. He could tell by the way she talked, she loved her daughters dealy. Even if she didn’t birth them all, they were still her daughters. She never denied the fact they still had parents of their own, but she was their mother now. Their parents were diseased and they all needed someone.

When she paused, he finally noticed the waitress that were at their table. He had forgotten all about the food. Katerina’s eyes looked at him, and his eyes locked with her’s. He spoke, saying that she should go on. She seemed to hesitate for a moment before she continued.

A soft smile was on his lips as he listened to her speak. Finally she ended. “That is a lot of children you have.” He said in a joking way. He wished for a very long time that he had that many to love. He wished that his wife and child hadn’t died. But the vampire was not realizing that his whole life was finally falling into place.

She finally asked the question, the one he always dreaded answering. Normally, the vampire would ignore this question, but he thought it was time he answered. “I had one…He died before I was changed.” His voice was soft as he looked down into his half mug of blood. “After I was changed. Almost a few hundred years ago, I took in Angelique. She was on the edge of dying and I promised Clyde I would always take care of her. Instead, of forcing the change on her like most vampire’s would. I asked her. She accept, so I made her into my child.” He paused then looked away for a moment then back at the wolf. “Your cousin.” He whispered, thinking that she would be angry like her uncle.

The memory of telling Clyde appeared in his mind. He had been so angry, even threatened to kill Nikolaus. Thought, it finally hit him after his anger settled that this was a great thing. He now had time to tell her that she was his daughter. “I let her go a long time ago, so Clyde could finally become part of her life…. But that girl.” He smiled and took a sip of his mug. “She didn’t even know it but she evaded him most of her life. Only about a year ago they finally got reunited.” He took another sit before looking over Katerina, hoping she wasn’t going to be angry. “Are you angry with me?” He asked her while putting his arms on the table.

Entering the city, Katerina glanced around and noticed the guards were stabling their horses. When the vampire spoke, she nodded. It was better to travel on foot with the crowds of the city. Soon the horses were paid for and they were following behind the guards. They seemed to be on their way somewhere because they were moving quickly.

As they moved through the streets, Katerina couldn’t help but look over at Nikolaus. His face was seriously; interested what was going on. When they finally entered the square, Katerina caught the sight of a crowd gathered around an alleyway opening. “What's going on there?” She asked aloud, more to herself. Her words didn’t have them stop to wonder, instead they moved through the crowd, so they could see for themselves. They were only able to make it to the second row. Katerina could smell everyone around her, even the vampire she stood beside; sagebrush mixed with some sweetness. Her shoulder was pressed up against his as bodies piled in to see.

The cry of the man made her look to see what was happening. Her skin paled at the scene. The guard cried out over a fallen teenager. Who looked almost exactly like Kiyomi. Bright blonde hair with soft features and white skin. If the guard wasn’t yelling over his daughter, the wolf demon would of mistaken her for her’s. Thinking of this made her heart ache, she didn’t know why. It was like this scene was telling her, her daughter was in trouble.

Before Katerina could act on her feelings, the vampire pulled her from the crowd. When he asked her for lunch, she simply nodded. As they walked through the streets, her arm looped around his, she didn’t say a word. She couldn’t get the girl out of her mind and the feeling she got about Kiyomi.

As soon as Nikolaus spoke, she finally noticed she was sitting in an Inn. Blinking, she smiled at him. “My daughters?” She said aloud. “Kiyomi, my eldest, is such a sweet girl. I took her in when she was only a babe. She turned out to be a sweet and loving girl who loves adventure. She goes out for a week or two at a time to save people or just help them with anything they need. She is strong..” Katerina paused, the feeling from before was melting away. “My next daughter is Eden. Man is she a firecracker and fierce. I took her in when she was a teenager. Her family was dead… Though she believes them to be alive so she has been out looking for them. I think it's just to get some time away.” Katerina smiled. “She is home now though, mending a broken leg from the mummy attack from a month or so ago.” As the wolf spoke of her daughters, she could tell he was listening to every word, so she went one. “I just brought in two little girls a year ago.” She laughed a bit. “Kiyomi brought them home with her on one of her adventure’s… They are sister’s. One is part fox though, about four years old now, that is Freya. Annette, she is such a talker… She the older sister, about ten years old. She is very protective of Freya. It's sweet. She hasn’t got her ears though, so it makes me think they aren’t from the same parents.”

The waitress appearing made Katerina sit back. She hadn’t realized she was leaning on the table. The woman placed a water and her food before her and a mug before Nikolaus. “Go on.” He asked as he took a sip of his drink. The wolf demon smiled at him as she took a sip of her stew.

“Evangeline was just brought back to me almost a year ago. Man does she have my aging. See… She is growing faster than any normal girl. In one year, she now looks like a three year old. She also loves causing trouble. She plays pranks on her sister’s all the time. I don't know what I am going to do with her.” Katerina laughed a bit at this. Her voice continued softer now as she talked about her youngest. “My newest addition….. Guinevere. She looks about a year now. I just gave birth to her almost five months ago. “A smile curved on her lips as she spoke about her. “She is determined to walk and talk. Mostly she babbles but she tries to use her words…. For the first month. I couldn’t let her go. I held her so much. It was hard for me to leave for the ball..” She paused as memories of that night flooded in. “Amare.. My nanny and my dearest friend forced me to get out of the house.” She laughed a bit at the memory.

With that she began to eat. “Those are all my daughters.” She said with a smile. The moments from earlier now gone.

Katerina took a few bites of her food as the vampire watched her intently. Swallowing her last bite, she looked up at him. “Do you have any children? It has been a long time since I’ve seen you. Tell me… What have you been doing for the past thousand years?” She asked him as she took a sip of water, waiting for his answer.

Hearing the words from Katerina, his eyes searched the sky. When he saw the bunny , a laugh left his lips. He knew that girl was still in there even after thousands of years. His mind soon drifted off into the past. The moment’s they shared together. His favorite was watching the stars with her with a fire going. They would just lay down under the stars and enjoy each other company.

A smile slowly appeared on his lips as he thoughts about the few weeks they spent together. It was short, but filled with so much laughter. He hadn’t felt that way since. With a mental sigh, the vampire wished that he didn't let her go. Maybe her life wouldn’t have been so bad? “No.. She ended up right where she should be.” He thought to himself as his eyes drifted to the woman beside him. He started to wonder how it would be to kiss her lips.

Taking his eyes away, he looked back up to the sky. He repressed a sigh that wanted to escaped him and tried to take his mind off kissing her.

The sound of horse’s broke through his thoughts. The noise made him shot up along with the wolf demon beside him. Hearing her words, he agreed. He jumped on his horse and ran after the knights.

They were such in a rush the two barely were able to keep up. It wasn’t long before they passed by the small farms outside the city. They were soon met by the tall white walls and the large gates. The two didn’t stop to look at them in awe like people normally would. They slowed their horses and entered the city. “Lets stable the horse’s then we will catch up.” Nikolaus said as he turned his horse towards the stables.

After they stabled the horses, they headed deeper in the city. It took them a moment before they finally were met by a huge crowd gathered around a alleyway near the city center. Pushing passed the crowd, they slowly made their way towards the front. They only made it close enough to hear and see the body in the middle of the alleyway. “I was out on patrol. Why was I—” The general of the guard’s voice caught in his throat. “Autumn… My sweet Autumn!” Falling to the ground. The man brought the teen girl’s corpse into his arms. “My baby girl…” The guard rocked back and forth as he held his child.

With a frown the vampire glanced over at Katerina. She seemed white as a ghost. “Kat.” She didn’t answer him. “Katerina.” Nikolaus called for her once more then grabbed her by the arm. Dragging her out of there, he brought her into the open square. “Let’s get something to eat.” He said with a smile then put her arm in his. He almost had to pull her with him as they made it towards the nearby in.

As they entered the inn, he pulled out a chair for her to sit down; she did instantly. When the waitress came by, he ordered her favorite. “Beef stew with bread and cheese, and some cows blood.” After he ordered, he looked over to Katerina. “Tell me about your kids?” He asked with a smile.
