If one travels to the far edge of the Haza Savannah, one will come into contact with a strange area, bound on all sides by an arcane barrier. Careful inquiry will reveal the area was once home to testing grounds for some of the most powerful mages of all time. An unknown disaster caused the area to be completely vacated centuries ago.

Few travellers dare venture to the area, and even fewer have returned; but those who have lived to return tell stories of a land filled with impossible things: dragons of pure shadow who hunt all that move; birds made of lightning that light up the night sky; strange, squirrel-like creatures that grow on bushes and attack without warning; and purple snakes that can become mostly invisible save their virulent green eyes. Few of the stories match up, but all know that this land is impeccably dangerous.

Once, an explorer whose name is lost to memory, made it to the very center of the wasteland. She returned with stories recounting ruins of an extraordinarily impossible city, complete with stone towers carved out of single bricks, structures that were somehow alive and growing, and roads that twisted and turned and never followed the same direction twice. All of these incredible things had been slowly reclaimed by the wilderness of strange and impossible plants. As evidence, the explorer brought back a single leaf, deep green with purple veins and nearly as large as she was. She claimed that this was one of the many plants she had found in the strange land. She told tales of trees growing sideways, mushrooms in colonies so large they spread as wide as plains of grass, and bushes of fruit that changed color and flavor seemingly at random.

All who live near the barriers will warn one to never enter this deadly land, but its magical allure is just too much for some. While it obeys few laws of nature, it operates in ways that some can understand if not survive. Above all, one thing has been made abundantly clear - the barrier is the only thing that keeps the nearby areas safe. Nothing living in the area can pass through the barrier.
