Leaving the cities and choosing to live out in the wild for the past few weeks may have been one of Celyna’s best life choices yet. Especially here, in this most enchanting of forests, she felt closer to the creatures out here than to any humans she had once associated with in more urban settings… even if that was due to the fact that she looked like nothing more than a small wolf. She almost preferred it that way, though occasionally she missed actual interaction with people and would strike up a passerby in her humanoid form. They were always nice. Yet, almost tragically, they would always die.
People wouldn’t heed the warnings. It wasn’t as if they had never heard of the place, the whole principle behind the Forest was that one had to be looking for it to in order to even find it in the first place. Surely these people who sought the forest out, who were very obviously looking for it, must have been made aware of the dangers… Yet somehow they all fell prey to the Fey. Celyna was no fool, she hunted herself and found her own food. She would never fall for their tricks, as beautiful or entrancing as they may be, she was educated enough to know better. Or at least had enough sense to maintain a safe perimeter from them.
She had taken up a new hobby, when not scrounging through the woods for rodents or other things, of watching the travelers proudly find the Forest, make it a few hundred metres, and eventually get sucked into a trap. Alone as she may be, she never found it hard to entertain herself, often by making bets with herself or the occasional nearby animal on how long each traveler would last. She had once owed a squirrel a few acorns over losing such a bet; though fortunately for her, she had eaten him immediately after losing it, and never had to pay up.
Celyna had a usual spot, near one of these parties, which seemed to attract the most unfortunate guests. She was not exactly the most camouflaged shapeshifter (she hadn’t ever figured out the color thing, and her blonde hair went with her to whatever shape she took), but her colour was well enough hidden in the blueish brush to watch happenings without disturbance. The first travelers of the day passed through the barrier, a blonde woman and a man. The male was going on about something, and judging from the woman’s look, he was always going on about something. Celyna nodded and watched as the male, disregarding his companion’s advice, stepped out of safety and into a trap. Oh dear, she thought, and watched the woman now, for her reaction. She was not quite so naive, clearly she knew what the trick with the fey was, and had tried to warn the other of it. A sigh escaped Celyna, as she thumped her tail and grumbled to herself.
“Humans… They never listen.”
A fey had happened too close to her and cast her a strange glance, and she looked away quickly. Definitely don’t need you creatures knowing me, too well… And with that thought, she groaned and pushed herself up to slink away from him, and to get a better vantage point on this new situation brewing in front of her.
