As her boots crunched in the snow beneath her feet, the dragon listened to the man beside her. She kept herself from frowning as he spoke of his name sake. Is wasn’t his name that made her want to frown, it was the mention of a father. A father she didn’t have. Her heart ached to find out who her father was or even to have one. Katerina and their animal companions were the only family Kiyomi had known. She was happy with the life she had. She had a loving mother, animal friends, and she was slowly making friends outside of their circle. The only thing missing was a father. A man she could look up to. A man who could love her mother, Katerina, with all his heart. “She needs someone to love her..” She thought to herself. Her mother had been alone for years, even before she came into the picture. Kiyomi prayed with all her heart her mother would find someone to love.

Nathaniel’s sudden voice made her eyes glance over to him. She needed to get out of her head, and this fight ahead of them would help. The man started to talk of his siblings and that made her smile. “That is really a lot. My mother just has…me.” She almost paused at the last word because her mother had another daughter, but she was no sister to Kiyomi. “That is amazing though, there is so much love in your family.” She smiled over at him then looked ahead at the people who rushed around them. So much was going on at this gate.

The little girl who came up to them was the cutest Kiyomi had ever seen. Then she saw the weapon and blood. A little girl fighting in a war? She must be more than what she seemed. The pink haired girl named, Aelwen, spoke to him as if she wanted to whine about her dress, but she kept her compose. As if the there was more of an annoyance than anything else. Kiyomi stared silence watching their exchange. It was sweet to see how he cared for her in one small moment.

The man introduced her to his sister and Kiyomi bowed slightly at the small girl with a smile. “Hello.” The dragon said before the girl started off back to the fight. Kiyomi didn’t get another word in before she was gone, her dress fixed. “That is something you have to teach me.” She said with a smile. It would come in handy, she was the worse person to have a needle. “It’s alright. I didn’t mind her words.” She said looking over towards the gate where just outside the fighting was going on.  Her mind wasn’t on the fight but on her sister. The moment that the two shared before her brought up memories of Eden.

“My sister, Eden, used to fix my dress whenever it ripped.” She paused before a sigh left her lips. “She is gone now though.” She said simply with an edge of sadness on her voice. The sadness wasn’t because her sister was dead, but she had left them. Left to roam the land without them. Their mother needed them, and she just left. Anger swirled within her making her unsheathed her katana. “Are you ready?” She said over at him and ran out the gate to release some anger.

Nathaniel didn’t think long on her question as he gave a smile. “Rose is my mother’s last name. Draconis is my father’s. Both are from two very powerful houses so both my sister and I share both names. When I was born I was named the heir to mother’s throne, though from the dying thing that changed it. My sister inherited the throne my father sat on, she is about a decade younger than I am.”

As they walked he looked around and sighed a bit. “You would think my siblings would be a tad more responsible and show up to help.” He gave her a wink. “In all honesty, they are probably all the way out in the thick of everything. My mother has over one hundred children, shocking isn’t it? You cannot tell by looking at her.” It was the truth, any normal person might have had their body break down after so many children. “My youngest brother is under a year old. You could find it shocking to learn from such a little tyke but he is something else.”

He didn’t wish there to be an awkward silence in between the two. Flexing his muscles just a tad the man sent pumps of magic throughout his body. “It’s been a while since I’ve ever had to fight. I was a little lad when my father first taught me swordplay. When I was old enough my mother taught me more music and singing than anything of that sort. I learned a little bit about her herbal knowledge but not nearly enough to be completely effective with it.”

As they neared where they would be stationed for defending the keep, a little pink haired elf came past him. She had blood all over her and the rather large war hammer that she carried with her. “That bad Aelwen? Don’t tell me you got hurt?” The elf stopped and looked at the two of them. She was really tiny, possibly child sized with her height.

“Not my blood, be careful their ranks are getting closer but we’re pushing them back. They went and ripped my dress Thaniel.” The elf pulled up the edge of her purple dress. A glimmer of sadness came over him as he looked at the well-made fabric.

“I can fix that.” There was a green glow at his fingertips as the purple fabric began to grow. The hole became patched and the elf set to looking at the job that had been done. “Oh! My manners are lacking severely. Kiyomi this is my younger sister Aelwen.”

Aelwen gave her a nod before looking back out. “I suppose since you fixed my problem I can go back out now.” Nathaniel gave her a look as if being stern with her. “Whatever, it’s nice to meet you.” The little one summoned a broom and rode off back into the thick of things.

Nathaniel scoffed and looked apologetically at Kiyomi. “Aerkai elves are rather fickle creatures are they not? Forgive Aelwen she doesn’t mean to be utterly rude to you. Still to think she would leave the battle just to fix her dress is terrible.”

Keeping her mouth from falling open, she stared at the man before her, Nathaniel. ‘He was just dead a few weeks before? She thought to herself as she tried not to be shocked. With a world full of magic, it shouldn’t be something to be shocked by, but this was the first time she met someone who was once dead. This was a day of first.  Her mother had never died before and no one she had met had.’Or has she?’ Kiyomi thought, her mother wasn’t one to talk about her past, and such a very long past it was.

The dragon’s thoughts were interrupted by Nathaniel. He spoke again saying his full name. ‘Isn’t he polite…’ She thought, most the men she met were very blunt and tried to touch her. A smile lined her lips. It was refreshing to be around him, someone with manners like herself. His comment about her eyes made her smile. She was glad to be different.

“Nathaniel Rose-Draconis.” She repeated his name, it was quite different. “Is that your mother's last name? I’ve heard of the great goddess Angela, but never knew her last name?” She asked him wondering.

The Rosenite soon voiced where they should go, and she nodded. She was opened going anywhere as long as they fought. She had the urge to kill some orcs again. It was a new feeling and she liked it. It wasn’t just the killing she liked, it was because she was defending people who needed her and the others.

As soon as he spoke again he tapped his reaper, looking down at it for a moment, the dragon brought her eyes back towards him. He spoke of death and honer. He was going to do whatever his mother wanted. She was going to tell him he had a choice, but the man talked about his honor. She gave him his second chance and his debt was to her. A smile liked her lips. ‘He is amazing…’ She thought to herself, but pushed her thoughts away before her slightly tanned skin grew pink. “Well. Lets go.” She said as she started to walk the way he said.

Nathaniel tilted his head at her and only a gave a small kind remark. “A dead man walking needs his mother’s help. A man who was once dead but a few weeks ago is still adjusting to life again.” It was true that before that moment he had been dead. “Plus my mother isn’t one who keeps hidden very long.” Angela wouldn’t have let Nathaniel suffer long but he was trying to redeem himself as well. “I suppose, dying once means I’m not scared of dying again.”

As soon as Angela disappeared Nathaniel’s look got even softer than before, he was contemplating what to say. “Yes, blood and all.” He wasn’t used to his mother being a full-fledged goddess. An immortal that everyone knew. Sure, his mother had been a social butterfly but it wasn’t on the scale that her godhood was.

The smile turned to laughter as he heard her name. “You remind me of my little sister Aaryona. You both are right fire sprouts. My full name is Nathaniel Rose-Draconis. Since you gave me your full name I thought it would be courteous to give the full thing.” When it came to his eyes a hand came up and pointed to them. “Believe it or not this is the common eye color of the Rosenite. Eyes like yours are rare in Sularia or even like my sister Aaryona’s.”

Nathaniel got up off the ground and thought about it. “I suppose since I can now fight that I could head off to defend. My mother probably has the healing camp defended quite well. We should head to the opposite end of the city to defend it… If you wanted to that is.” He tapped his rapier. “Until recently I was quite dead and my magic and strength hadn’t come back. I was waiting on that potion to help me, which is another reason for being here. The second reason was that I owe a lifetime of servitude to my mother for my crimes, even if I am not to blame for them. Honor is one thing I will not forsake.” His voice was calm but sad as he looked towards the healing camp.

Kiyomi sighed seeing the man alive. He was more than just friends with children, he was a fighter. Her ears picked up the sound of a roar echoing through the sky. The Wyvern was part of who she was. It had been years since the dragon had transformed, every time she did a scale would appear. Kiyomi only had a few patches of  bright blue scales, but she hated them. They didn’t make her feel beautiful. Most of them she could hide, but one came out from under her collar of her black and purple dress. Before this day would end, she knew she was going to have to transform. Another scale would rise from her skin.

Pushing the thoughts away, she brought her attention back towards the man heading towards her. He had noticed her. His words surprised her. “Then why the hell are you here? You're going to get yourself killed.” The dragon said as she sheathed her katana on her back. Hearing the last of his words she almost laughed. A grown man needing help from his mother. She wasn’t that old, but she never needed help from her mother. She could take care of herself. “You are a grown man. You shouldn’t have to wait on your mother.” She voiced her irritation. ‘I am not babysitting…’ Kiyomi thought as she looked over him.  He was handsome, but still sort of childish.

As soon as Kiyomi finished her words, she wished she could take them back. A redheaded woman appeared, but she was far more than that. The redhead was, Angela, a Goddess. If she was her mother, of course she would always want her help. Seeing her toss a bottle of some sort to her son, the man standing next to Kiyomi, she disappeared. The dragon turned to the man before her, her eyes a bit wide. “That is your mother?!” She gasped out. Kiyomi had never met any children of the Goddess or any other God. This all surprised her.

The sudden movement of the man, her eyes looked to him worried. “Are you okay?” She asked him putting a hand on his shoulder. Keeping her face from glowing red, she quickly removed her hand. It was the first time she had touched a man. His warmth still tingled on her hand. His next words eased her. He was okay. A smile crossed the woman's lips, as she bowed slightly from her waist. “Nice to meet you, Nathaniel. I am Kiyomi Silverstein.” She said looking into his eyes. They were so beautiful. “You’re eyes are quite different from any I have seen.” She commented.

“Where are you headed to now? To the battle outside or are you going somewhere else?” She asked, wondering if she should stay with him, or leave. She really wanted to stay, he was becoming interesting to her every moment.

At the time of the shout, Nathaniel was already well aware of the situation. From the toy that Nathaniel had given the child came a bright piercing light that eventually formed into a shell around the child. “Now go fast, you should be safe for the time being.” He rubbed the child’s hair before the child ran off. Giving the child a light shove to his back, his movement became fast as he unsheathed his rapier.

He was quick and nimble but due to the recent strain on his body Nathaniel appeared tired rather quickly. He still wasn’t used to living and that was a problem. Having spent a chunk of years stuck in limbo, he would not say hell, he had found himself rather weaker than he had been before. It frustrated him as the earth shot up and pierced those around him that threatened the elves.

“Honestly, this is dreadful. I would have hoped by now my powers would come back.” He let a light sigh leave his lips. He approached the girl with caution as he waved his hand once all the orcs had been taken care of. “Not to be completely useless Love but my powers need a tiny bit more time to be… well useful. I hope we can work together to keep us going until either they kick in or Mother shows up and does what she does best.” He rubbed his chin thoughtfully at the thought of Angela coming to save the day.

“Or! Best idea ever,” the voice made him smile as Angela appeared in all of her glory to throw a bottle at him. “You take that. I don’t have to work hard and you can be a hero.” The red headed woman gave the girl a wink. “Best magical concoction I’ve ever made that.”

“You say that every time you brew something, Mother.” The parry back at her simply got a touche as she vanished from sight. Uncorking the bottle he drank from it and immediately gagged. “She did that on purpose.” He forced himself to a knee to deal with the awful taste in his mouth. It took a few moments for him to be able to stand up and not hate himself. “Forgive her, she honestly does do things for the betterment of everyone, I swear it. My name is Nathaniel.” He offered her his hand.

Getting separated from her mother was not part of the plan. Kiyomi made her way back into the town. A soft sigh left her lips as sweat ran down her brow. She had only killed a few orcs but it was almost non stop. Quick breaths came out of her chest as she ran in between a few houses. Since she lost her mom, she had to head back into town because that is where they said they would meet.

The young dragon had got herself swept up into the fighting. Her heart seemed to be beating in her ears as the growls echoed through the sky. She remember the rush she felt as she dodged ever hit and stabbed her katana into an orc. Thick black blood was dripping from her blade as she kept on fighting. Soon her mother their beside her, she was lost in the swarm of orcs. Seeing an opening she took it and headed back to the homes in the distance. She was too worried about her mother to fight. It was her first battle, and she cursed at herself as she caught her breath. Sheathing her Katana on her back and besides her bows and arrows. She couldn’t believe she lost her mother.

“I need to get out of my head.” Kiyomi whispered to herself. Her blueish purple eyes looked up at the area around her. The snow covered land made a smile curved on her lips. She was getting a glimpse into her mother's past and it was amazing. How many days has she stayed here in this town? Was it a great time in her life? Pushing her thoughts away, she concentrated on the crunching of her feet and the voices around her.

Soft giggles reached her ears making her stop and look at the children ahead of her. A man with red hair caught her eyes. He was giving a child a toy. The notion brought a smile to her face. With everything going on it was sweet to see that moment. It warmed her heart. He was also quiet handsome as well.

With the dragons thought on the man, she was caught off guard as the fist hit the side of her face. Her body flew into the air and hit a hard wall. Her hands reached out under her to catch herself. Quickly pushing herself up, she caught a sword heading to her face. Ducking punching the orc in his stomach, he stumbled back. Giving her an opening to unsheath her katana and cut off his head. “RUN!!!!” She yelled towards the children as her eyes caught site of five more coming towards them.

Narrowing her eyes, the dragon didn’t hesitate to move. Her purple dress was kicked up behind her as she ran towards the group of orcs. Her katana clanged with the metal of their weapons. Her foot connected with a stomach of another orc, causing him to stumble back.  A few of the orcs noticed the man behind the woman. Thinking their companions could handle her, they headed towards him.

The dragon’s eyes gave a quick glance to the orcs heading towards the man, and decided she needed to end her attackers quick. With her quickness, she was able to dodge each attack and stab one orc in the gut and slash another across the neck. The bodies dropped beside her and her attention was back on the red headed man.

His mother had talked him into at least cutting his hair a bit. What was once long beauty red hair was still long but not waist length like it had been. He sported shoulder length brilliant flaming hair that was pulled back for comfort over his shoulder and tied with an elegant bow. If he was anything it was well groomed. His shirts were finely tailored, and better fitting now since his mother got his hands on him. He would admit the clothing he had from the journey into Revaliir was less than spectacular. The color fabric he had picked out mirrored that of his mother’s favorite shade of midnight blue. The winter cloak that had been gifted him for this adventure was made out of pleasantly soft and plush material. He had no idea where the material had been crafted, though he figured it was nothing short of something his mother had done.

His eyes were his mother’s as well, beautiful shades of green with red around the pupil, that so many Rosenites were known for. His skin was sun-kissed just like hers. However, it was his face and how his body was built that was so much like Marius Draconis. How his features were somewhat feminine it did not detract from how Marius had looked. It was the reason why Angela hurt for so long when Marius had died.

Pulling his hood over his head he held it close as he entered the snowy village. His rapier was at his side, excellently crafted he had no doubt. His mother had gifted him with many things since his return and it was good to be able to defend one's self with a gift from a family member.  “Are you all well?” If his voice could be turned into something he supposed it would be sweet like honey but masculine. He quite liked his voice, as many Rosenites tended to. They were performers for the most part and a huge fan of parties.

His eyes softened at the sight of small elvish children running around. He had killed children once and part of him had wished that he stayed dead because of that betrayal. At the drop of a toy, Nathaniel was quick to pick it up and give it back to the child who dropped it. “You should be careful young one, if you drop it in the snow it will get wet and take time to dry.” He gave a smile before standing back up and looking towards where they were going to build defenses for the time being.
