Xeik found himself in the Virens once more, surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the wilderness. It had become somewhat of a regular thing of him lately after dealing with the townsfolk of the nearby settlements on the Vilpamolan Coast. The creation of a Heaven’s Dawn branch in the area had become something much more complex than he had anticipated, and it was taking far longer to establish than he had planned for.
It did not help that he was dealing with some rather raw emotions of late. Between Drake going off on his own adventures, and Danwe tending to her own things, the whole group he had started out with had broken apart. Xeik was mostly okay with this, as he had his own tasks to complete, but his recent discovery of Lewis’ whereabouts had lead to a falling out between them.
Falling out is putting it lightly, Xeik thought to himself for the hundredth time. The boy was dwelling again. It was always one thing to keep a positive demeanor in front of others. It was another to keep it when he was alone with himself. He had lately come to the conclusion that the world would be a much better place if everyone could just get along, and while it was an almost childish dream to have, it was one that he felt he could achieve. That was the first tenant of his guild..to help others who could not help themselves. The concept was sound.
“Fighting only causes more fighting. Instead of holding out a sword…hold out a hand,” Xeik said aloud, reciting his last speech. “All of these wars are caused because of need. If we eliminate the need, then we can live in peace.” He sighed, sitting down against a tree trunk, leaning into it.
It sounds stupid when I say it out loud. The boy frowned. He had caught Lewis mid assassination. When the teen made no excuses, it became apparent that their philosophies no longer coincided.
Even now, Lewis…I want you to come back. Killing like that can only cause more pain. That one death can cause a ripple of pain that can escalate into a battle. That battle causes more death, and turns into a war. And then…more death. Xeik stared down at his hands.
That’s what the assassins guild did. What they wanted me to do. And then Drake and Danwe protected me. That’s what I want to be. A haven for protection…and a place that can help. The boy made a face when his stomach started to growl.
Oh. I didn’t bring anything Xeik looked around. He had never gone too deep into the forest on his own, and wasn’t about to try, and hunting was far from his specialty.
Maybe if I’m lucky, I can find some kind of fruit. With that thought, he started to wander.
