Rosie Sterling loved snow. As much as she loved the warmth of summer, when it snowed she wished it would snow forever. She remembered the giggles that used to fill the farm as she and her siblings played. She remembered all the snowmen; she remembered all the days dedicated purely to building the fanciest snow forts they could.

They still played in the snow sometimes, but it wasn't the same. Ronan and River had both moved away years ago, Rory was convinced that playing in the snow was for children, not young women, Raven would rather read than play in anything, and Rylan was too sickly to spend too long outside in winter. And so, Rosie was left to enjoy the cold all alone.

She didn't mind. Not really. While she missed those days, she loved being able to explore by herself. She loved being able to sing at the top of her lungs, without Rory complaining or Ronan joining in, purposefully singing as badly as he could. She loved being able to just sit for hours without River getting bored. As much as she loved her brothers and sisters, she had no problem being alone.

And so, she had left that morning, as the snow blanketed the ground, and made her way into the woods, singing the whole way.

She had settled down at the base of a tree, forming a short wall of snow to help keep the wind away, and began to unpack a bit. She pulled out her journal and quill and flipped through to her current page.

The pages were filled mostly with songs. Songs for her flute, songs for her piano, song for her voice… She did have the occasional journal entry, but for the most part, it was only music.

She began to scribble down notes for a tune she was working on.
