This was a mistake. He knew it was. If there was any type of person he wasn’t able to trust, it was those of the vampiric nature, and yet here he was following the instruction of one. For good measure he had placed numerous amounts of seals and wards on himself, invisible on his skin but ever present and a warm reminder. Had this not had anything to do with his family then there was no way he would have even been here right now. The only thing comforting about this place was that it was in his homeland, in a forest that he had trained in for years in his youth.


The woman had told him that he had a sibling, more than that, that he wasn’t even part of the Uharu line at all. He had been tempted to question his parents about this but had decided not to. Whether he liked it or not there was a part of him that believed her, even if it was small it was still there: a fracture that could slowly work its way into being a crack, all the way to a cavernous divide. No, he was no longer a child and would prefer to find out for himself.


Shades of green repeated over and over in front of him, every so often going out of sight due to the overlaying mists, and he pulled a blade out. Training grounds or not he still knew well that he could be walking directly into an elaborately laid trap. So far he didn’t sense anyone else though, a few small animals maybe but nothing of any real threat, but he was exactly where he needed to be: this is what he had been told. There had been no description given to him though.


Were this woman he had been told about actually related to him then he hoped he’d be able to feel it. Then again, for the past twenty five years he had believed that his parents were his by blood…so he was unsure of what to think or expect. While there was a fraction of him that believed this story, the greater part of him hoped it really was all a trap. It would have been easier to fight his way out and have his pride bruised than to come to terms that his family had been lying to him for his whole life.

Her heart was hammering in her chest as she waited. It had been over twenty years since she’d last had an interaction with him and while she could slit a man’s throat at the drop of a hat, this terrified her even more. She knew what he was. She knew the family he’d been taken to that had raised him. How cruel that in her later years she would be turned into the exact thing he would be destined to hunt. The Uharu family wasn’t known for their forgiveness when it came to her kind, but they were blood, he’d have to see that and past what she was.
 

The boy he’d been when she was taking care of him was so different than the man he had turned into. Part of her felt guilty for even bringing him into this, she felt as if she were forcing herself into his life and worried that there was no room for her there. It was selfish, she knew that, but she at least wanted to have a reunion with him, even if it was the last time. Even if he’d end up hating her, she needed that closure.


She’d watched him from afar, never letting herself get close enough for it to matter until she couldn’t take it any longer. With everything that was happening between him and the young woman he had courted years ago, she was hoping that this would somehow heal that wound as well. Rosenites were hardly vampiric by any stretch of the imagination, but maybe if he could see that vampires themselves weren’t inherently evil he’d be able to let something like that go. Hiromi had been turned, but that girl had been born…it wasn’t her fault.


Her eyes opened when she heard the first creak of bamboo and she quickly looked down from her perch. As it was she was cloaked in invisibility but she knew that it would hardly aid her against a hunter, especially one from his family’s prowess. It was bitter to think of them as his family, she was his family, they’d just forced him away from her and she was too little to have done anything about it. Her lips parted when she saw him, but it was more what she felt and sensed than anything else: he was guarded with so many wards that if she were to so much as touch him her skin would burn. Her demonic blood could only protect her so much.


Despite his height, build, the lock of his jaw, she still yearned to wrap him up like she had when he was small. She’d never been this close, his scent was almost overwhelming from how similar it was to her own. And he was the only person she never had the urge to bite.
 

His footsteps stilled and her breath caught in her chest, not daring to so much as breathe as she watched him from nearly twenty feet above. He knew, he had to have. It was always better to let yourself be known than to be found, so before he could make a move she leapt across to a further bunching of bamboo stalks and let herself drop down to the ground. Only when her feet touched the earth did she let her invisibility fall.


It had to be startling, and as awkward as it felt to do so she managed a small smile, "Naota…" Her hands instantly lifted up, hoping he’d understand that she meant him no harm.
