When Dalanesca had fallen, Bryar had not felt any physical pain. He certainly felt it, when the goddess for whom he had been a mortal avatar had fallen. But his feelings were more mental than anything. It felt as though a void had been ripped open inside, but he did his best to hold it together for Kirika and Sahara more than anything. It proved to be much less difficult than he expected, at least, and he had to thank his young daughter for part of that. Being the age she was, she kept him quite busy, and she certainly loved to spend time with him.

On the other hand, Bryar’s mind was greatly occupied with the fact that several other people had joined their household at the Black Court. He had most certainly not been thrilled with the idea when Kirika had informed him of such, but he was not about to start an argument. Familial relations in the Rose family were an intricate and complicated subject, and there were many customs and norms and downright confusing things about it that he had yet to learn – he had a feeling he would probably never learn some of it, and he wouldn’t be surprised if he was right.

Most days, he went about his business throughout the manor, content with busying himself with whatever affairs Kirika needed him to take care of and spending time with both his wife and his daughter. This day, however, he awoke feeling rather antisocial, and had deigned himself to stay in his and Kirika’s room. He didn’t want to leave and face the throngs of people moving about the manor. He knew, however, that he most likely wouldn’t be allowed to stay in there all day. He knew breakfast would be soon, and that either Kirika was going to come and retrieve him for breakfast, or that someone else would on her behalf.
