A steadying breath was taken in and then released. The phoenix guard stood on his two feet while watching refugees stream in a line towards the city. Fear settled in deeply within the citizens of Revaliir from the new threat that loomed over their heads. The Goddess of Life had her own life in danger, which set many on their heels to what that meant for the rest of the world. The Goddess of Death was possessed by an entity that was still unknown. Nothing really appeared to line up no matter what Damon tried to do with the information that had been given. The worlds of the gods never really made sense to him over the years he had lived. It did not change despite the world that he came to live on.
Damon shook his head while looking at the sand beneath his feet for a moment before glancing over at Echo. Both had volunteered to escort the refugees into the city. Plant life had died out in shocking droves that meant that food was becoming more scarce. Damon was pleased to hear from his patroness that they were opening up their doors to those who were in need. It was already hard enough to make a life in the desert, and this recent development had only made it more difficult. The resources within the City were to be shared with those in need.
The phoenix crossed his arms over his leather armored chest while he watched the people continue to move forward. It was odd to think of how his life had changed to end up working where he was at that time. Things had most certainly changed, and he couldn’t be certain how he felt about it all. Much had been lost even while he had lived in Revaliir. His mistress had fallen from divinity which also took the one woman he had ever found himself attached to. Even so, Damon had found himself finding anew purpose to keep his mind from going crazy.
There was still quite a distance to go before they would get to the tropical forest that surrounded Sularia. The Arri Desert was not an expanse to mess with either. Already they had dealt with a small herd of Nightmares. Thankfully it had been a smaller herd that could be handled easily enough, but it felt more like an omen that there was more to come. At the front of their caravan were some members of Nossë that had been sent by Kiba. Damon was grateful for the help, but they were still few in number to help protect the large group they had amassed.
The archer took out an arrow from his quiver to notch it in his bow. He had a sinking feeling that told him that an incident was about to come upon them.
”Echo!” he shouted with a wave of his hand at her. She was on the other side of the caravan keeping watch as well.
”Sharp look!” He did not want to alarm their party, but he just knew something was going to happen soon even if he did not know what it was.
