He became aware of her presence as soon as her feet hit the beach not far away from him. He forced him to appear that he hadn't noticed, but every other sense was reaching out to figure out who this was, and what she might have wanted. He continued to watch the waves as they crashed down on the beach in front of him, racing up the sand to try and reach the pair of them as she came to stand as close to him as if they were friends enjoying the presence of one another. A hermit crab scuttled across th sand

There was something about her that set him on edge, something made him incredibly wary. It was her scent… it was off. Human, but… not… either something was added or something was missing. Why he couldn't put his finger on it. Just from a quick glance from the corner of his eye, her bright pink hair was alarming, and she was as slight as an old acquaintance had been. That meant nothing, for he had seen tiny individuals capable of leveling buildings before. Build, as he had learned, had no bearing on one's strength and he had the feeling that this theory might have applied to her.

Her sudden question about what he was drew a bit of a smirk and a snicker from his lips.

"A loaded question. I'm complicated," he answered her without looking her direction. He lifted his draconic arm and brushed his hair from his face as the wind tossed it in front of his eyes. "Why don't you give it your best guess and I'll guess what you are, and then we can see who was closest to the mark?" he suggested, and for the first time, turned his amethyst gaze up to her.

A new smell invaded her senses: primal and fresh. Her eyes flickered down to the shore below; past the salty black rocks that jutted out of the consistent waves like opening jaws. There was a boy, or maybe a man, it was hard to tell from here. Either way, focusing on them was giving her distraction and her heart and breathing finally began to calm. What was certain though was the red at the ends of his hair. Her stomach lurched in response, the sight too similar to blood. Her own pink hair had gone towards that dark gradient during feeding and she tucked it behind her ears for good measure.

People approached her cliffside perch and she looked over her shoulder towards them accusingly. Not small children at least, but hardly any better: adolescents. Their hormones filled the air with its intoxicating draw and she found herself holding her breath again. The strenuous years between puberty and adulthood were some of the worst, and she sat down; letting her legs hang over the side. It wasn’t so much that she wanted leisure, but more it would be easier to slide from the cliff without being too noticeable this way.

The first lilting tones of their laughter danced through the wind and with that she closed her eyes and pushed herself from the edge; teleporting silently once in full suspension and reappearing on the dunes below. Lavender welcomed her on the shore and she looked towards the boy - the young man she should say. Well, she didn’t know his true age, for all she was aware of he may have actually been a child in comparison.

Something else was intermingling with such a soft floral scent though, that same primal fragrance she’d inhaled on the cliff. Certainly not human, it was too complex for that. What would he taste like? Today wouldn’t be the day she found out, there was too much work to be done, but she approached him nonetheless. The etiquette and manners instilled within her over the past few decades meant nothing here when there was no need to have that kind of cover. So instead of smiling she arched an eyebrow and crossed her arms as if it were his fault she couldn’t pinpoint what he was.

Water lapped up towards her ankles, soaking through her cloth shoes as she looked out at the ocean beside him; as if the two were long friends. As if that would negate the often times frowned upon closeness of her stance, even if it wasn’t intimate, “So,” she said, “What are you supposed to be?”

He stared pensively out at the crashing waves of the Nyella, looking in the general direction of his island that he could barely see out over the horizon. He was supposed to be giving a report to Toya Rose about the state of Horae and the dragons and hydras after the egg-snatching and subsequent freezing over of the island. However, upon arriving in Sularia, and walking around the bazaar, his paranoia and anxiety had gotten so bad that Remedy had told him to go find someplace quiet and that she would give the report to Toya for him. Normally, he would have just gone straight to the Lady's manor, but he had wanted to visit the bazaar with Remedy to learn a bit more about what life was like there. It had turned out to be a very bad idea for him. Fortunately with the nearby lavender fields and the relaxing atmosphere of the beaches, it was easy to find a place of solitude.

Jace Alzrahi took deep steadying breaths of the salty sea air as the breeze tossed his dark and red tipped hair. He buried his bare feet in the sand, allowing it to ground him. He could touch and see the sand, he could taste and feel the air. He could see and hear the surf, and he could see Horae in the distance. Nothing had been chasing him in the bazaar. Nothing had been out to get him, but the hustle and bustle had been much to similar to the clamor of war. Fortunately, nothing here in Revaliir was even close to the horrors he had seen in his own worlds. What happened there would not happen here.

But still, he could not escape the memories. He could still see the face of his kin, the hulking figures that had towered above them as they had fought near in vain. He could hear the clamor of steel, the explosion of magic, the roars of pain and anger. Sometimes it was hard to separate them from the world he was in now. There were so many things that were similar or near the same. It was comforting, but also terrifying.

He felt his heart begin to pound again so he picked up the sprig of lavender he had snatched up as he had passed through the lavender fields and inhaled its soothing fragrance deeply. He wanted to be back on Horae. He felt safe there. There was something about the isolation of the island that reassured him: he knew all of the island, every inch and hiding place, or so he liked to believe. The natural atmosphere of the island would catch the unexpecting off-guard which meant he always had the advantage. It was an advantage he didn't have in Sularia.

He ran his dragon claw left hand through his hair as he slowly calmed down and began to relax.

This was a bad idea. No, it was an extremely bad idea. With another assassin’s guild so close, it was cocky enough to hire someone from another clan, but to have it so close to sacred land was a step too far. Well, almost a step too far. Someone had to be stupid enough to do it, so she might as well be that stupid person. After the change in her brother, she found herself going towards danger more often than not, and not just because her true job told her to. The way he looked at her now was nothing like how it’d been before. Where there had been begrudging affection before, it was replaced with a knowing gaze. He’d always had the knack for somehow seeing through her instead of at her, but now? She may as well have been an ant and he a giant. It bothered her.

There were better things to dwell on. Other dangers to keep at the forefront. And there was no room for distraction. Though to be honest, she did wonder what an oracle’s blood would taste like…What would the experience be like? What would she see? Experience? Was it like everyone else’s, or would the euphoria be even greater? It wasn’t often someone got their fangs close enough to find out since they were so well protected. But that wasn’t why she was here. Maybe she could treat herself to that later, after the job was done. Already her fangs were elongating, and she pulled her lips in to hide them until they’d go down enough on their own.

Voices shouting in all different tongues flooded her ears as she passed through the festival square, and the varying scents were nearly overwhelming. She pulled her scarf tighter around her neck, her body unable to get sick from the heat, and her demonic blood keeping her safe from the sun’s rays. The constricting feeling helped calm her, but she was quickly learning why she hadn’t come to Sularia before.

It was practically a smorgasbord. In the mood for some Adelunan? Head this way. Was Vilpamolan more your fancy? Right this way madam. Her shoulders shuddered, having to hold her breath as a gaggle of children weaved around her to continue on with their game. Didn’t they know bad people walked these stones?!

It was too much, and her feet picked up until she was near sprinting, all but a blur to those around her, as she made it closer to the sound of crashing waves. The salty smell of the ocean filled her nostrils as she all but panted to overwhelm the lingering scent of children’s blood. While normally she’d be more preoccupied with the fact that she’d just waltzed into the district of her competition, all she was able to focus on now was how the pounding in her head was finally slowing; receding with each rising wave below her. Get it together. Her mark was nowhere near this area, but at this rate she was more likely to drain the entire square than complete her assigned task.
