He had heard the footsteps, but didn't acknowledge the other's presence until she spoke.  He had half hoped that the person would pass on, leaving him to his thoughts, but it wasn't to be.  He turned to face the woman, putting on a calm face and friendly tone.  "It is strange, no one seems to know just what happened.  Or if they do, they will not speak of it.  Even the most curious cannot seem to get anything from the histories. I just wandered here, thought I may as well have a look.  If there are ghosts, I am not afraid of them," River said, a slight grin on his face.  In the months here, he had at least discovered a few useful things about himself, not the least of which was that he could manipulate spirits.  He was still learning to bind and exorcise them, but he knew enough to keep himself safe.

Just as he finished, an indistinct whispering came from the ruins, a babble of voices on the wind.  Or had it been his imagination?  Since he had started training, Logan had noticed he was hearing things more often than before.  Perhaps whatever was in those ruins had heard his words, and wanted to make him eat his words.  Staring at the ruins, there was still something familiar about this place, something just off the tip of his tongue and out of sight.  It was infuriating, and he hoped to find answers deeper within.  "I think I'm going to have a closer look.  Would you care to join me?  Two sets of eyes are better than one.  My name is River," he said with a bow of introduction.  She had been cautious in her approach at least, that showed some common sense, and perhaps he could use some company rather than the lonely reverie he had been intent on.

Sularia was a place that felt like home without it really being home. It seemed that no matter how much traveling she and her brother did, she always was happy to return to the city of the Rosenites. Justice was also happy to return, but for a different reason. He had Holly to look forward to. Rizka? Well, she was just happy to be back in general. Their vardo was tethered at the edge of the city and she had decided she wanted to stretch her legs by walking around the city outskirts. It was still rather light out, night wouldn't fall for a couple hours, and on the edge of the city oasis it was pleasantly warm. Not the deadly heat of the Arri Desert, fortunately.

As she walked, her sandaled feet lightly treading over the grass, she turned in the direction of the old burned out manor. She'd wondered what had happened there, but everyone she had asked about it had refused to talk about it. Not even the vagrant youths liked to trespass. It piqued her interest. What about the place would make people avoid it so? Curiosity got the best of her and she walked toward the twisted and bent iron gate that marked the threshold to the grounds.

She noticed a man standing there, looking at the burnt out ruins, sipping a cup of tea. She guessed he was as curious as she was. He looked like a local too, or at the very least a Rosenite. She approached him, her long dark hair cascading down her back, her colorful skirts swishing about her calves.

"You have to wonder what happened there…huh?" she said softly as she came up behind the stranger, not wanting to spook him. She gave him a light hearted smile before she turned her gaze to the ruins.

He had been here for a few months now, but River was no closer to the answers he sought.  He at least knew his name, and his proud heritage.  But beyond that?  He had found few traces of who his close family had been.  He was deeply grateful to Queen Catherine for her hospitality, and Bryony for bringing here, but there were still frustrations.  So he meandered through the streets, not really seeing where he was going.  His feet just followed the path, and he kept wandering without a purpose beyond trying to sort through his thoughts.

Twilight wouldn't fall for another couple hours, and River found himself on the outskirts of the city.  He had bought chilled tea from a vendor, and sipped on it as he stood, watching the clouds slide by.  There were ruins nearby, and he was considering taking a closer look.  Taking a final swig of the tea, he headed towards what looked to be a gate.  The iron was twisted and blasted, but he could tell that it had happened long ago.  The scorch marks were faded by time and the weather, and he couldn't tell how long ago it had happened.

Climbing over the remains of a wall, he stood at the top of it for a few moments.  And something tugged at him.  A faint memory, something familiar as he looked across the weed covered grounds to a burned out shell of a manor-house.  He decided he would have to ask Bryony what happened out here.  The grounds sat a small distance away from the rest of the city, and River had a feeling that was why the ruins had been left to nature.  But who had lived here?  And why was it tugging at his mind…
