Foxglove offered him a smile and laughed. “I think that is one of the things that mom really did love about you in the beginning sometimes.” She was teasing him now. “She took to you really well.” She listened to the options and thought about it. “Well… obviously, a body like mine might be a bit out of the question. She made it real… what we’re talking about in this case would be a construct that she could turn real.” She mused. “It gets even worse past that… The body has to be strong enough to house the soul. The crystal is made of Mother so that’s why it works. Gathering the crystals from her old body would be best but face it people are gathering them up like you wouldn’t believe. It would be hard to find which ones are her and which ones are normal.” She was purely thinking with logic, obviously, something Angela designed her to do. “I think the same thing… I think Dal will come around. It might be a bit late for her to do so but Mother asked that we not avenge her and just make peace.”

She laughed and shook her head. “I don’t know if she is keeping it a secret because she thinks it’s the best or if someone has told her to keep it. We don’t know a lot about the seer ability she has. We know they come in the form of dreams. In which case, she was dreaming about it for a while. But it would be best to have a tea party to try and get it out of her.”

She nodded about his knowledge on the hellfire and took a deep sigh. “People panicked at first when the realm didn’t go down. Then when I showed up they thought I was taking over.” She answered truthfully. “I’ve let them believe it for now but I don’t think that’s quite right. Because Mother hasn’t truly fallen and well… she is inside of a crystal I think it will stand until we either fail to bring her back or the Voice determines she’s not fit to be here… have she said anything you?”

Drae took a swig of the offered flask. The medicine within was familiar to him, and he was aware of the consequences of drinking too much of it. Fortunately the single swig was all that was needed, and the burning sensation in his hands and chest faded, and the bump on his head went away. The pressure, however, didn't go away, but that told him that it DEFINITELY wasn't injury related.

"Heaven forbid I have to go find a place big enough for all of you. I don't know if I would be able to handle many more than Sapphire, Iva, and Rohan on my own, not unless you older children were helping out. Finding a place though? Heh, I'd be better off building us our own castle," he said with a dry chuckle. He watched as Foxglove touched the crystal, and suddenly flung it across the room after it burned her. It bounced off the stone floor once before Drae sent out his hand and it floated back into his grip.

"I know it's selfish, but I am an inherently selfish being," he said with a shrug and a smile, old Drae slipping back in.
"As far as what to do with it… there are options. In the same tome I read about transfusing a soul there was also something about building vessels to house souls without bodies in. That could be an option, though it isn't one I particularly like, at least not for Angela. If I could find a way to build her a body again, like she did for you, that would be best," he explained. "As for Dalanesca… I more inclined to let in sink in for a bit… I have a feeling that she will come to her senses, hopefully with Moliira's help, and she'll want to make amends. But I could just be thinking wishfully…"

He raised an eyebrow about Iva, and realized that what Foxglove said was right. "She has been unusually calm about this, hasn't she? I'll have to worm it out of her with a tea party…" he said thoughtfully. He looked up at her when she said she was glad that he was all right. He chuckled softly. "Believe me, we've both seen worse than a glancing ball of hellfire," he said with a half-smile. "It would take a lot more than that to knock me and Thyme out of commission."

He sighed and laid back. "How are things here? I assume you've taken control of the place? Is everyone pitching in and helping in this aftermath?"

Foxglove came over with a gemstone flask. She popped it open and offered him some. “This flask should heal you right up but don’t drink a lot. Mom said it was poisonous if you had more than your fill of the stuff.” She knew that her younger siblings would need Drae.

Tilting her head at the crystal she nodded. “Well, at least you don’t need to find a huge mansion for all of the children to live in.” She offered a laugh. “I don’t know how you would describe getting a house for more than a hundred children to live in at a time.” She was teasing him now as she took the crystal. Her fingers ran over it and suddenly it burned her hand and she threw it. It had to be the aura that kept her alive.

“Sorry!” She said as she watched the gem hit the floor. “I can’t touch it for too long.” Her skin was red from where she had pet the stone. “That is a selfish desire.” She was teasing him again. It was something her mother would have said. “Either way… what’s your plans for it? I mean it’s powerful but I’m not sure what to do since her body was destroyed into millions of crystals.” She crossed her arms.

“I mean maybe we can just give the gem to Dalanesca and have her figure it out… Unless Dalanesca is truly still upset with Mother. In which case… we shouldn’t tell Dalanesca about this.” She circled the gem before Drae could pick it up. “Iva’s been oddly cheerful as well… Do you think she saw this outcome? She’s been really quiet about it as if it was important she kept her mouth shut.” Maybe Iva being afraid of the dark was the visions of her mother being killed by hellfire. The Avatar moved and hugged Drae. “I’m just glad you are fine. I didn’t know what to do when  I heard that Thyme and you were hurt.”

"Hurting myself was far from my intention, Fox," Drae said with a wince as he sat up and rubbed the sizeable lump that had formed on the back of his skull from the spell's recoil. He hadn't anticipated it, but he was confident. He grinned at Angela's avatar, happy to see her. She was a dead ringer for Angela, and he was confident that if Foxglove was still intact then he had been successful, and Angela's energies had not been lost.

"If it was an urge for you to come home, I would put gold on it being her calling you back because of what happened," the warlock said as he inspected the marks on his hands with satisfaction. He noticed that Foxglove had seen the crystal, and he had an inkling that she could feel its pull. Her asking what it was was indeed a confirmation of this thought, and he grinned wider.

"Well, if I did things right, and I suspect I did… that would be Angela's soul," he answered as he picked up the prism, which was pleasantly warm to the touch and offered it to Foxglove to hold. If he was going to let anyone touch it, it would be her since she was connected to Angela as much as Angela was connected to the Earth and Life itself.

"I couldn't risk her being pulled into the Soul Stream. Not just yet," he said softly. "I didn't want to lose her… and I didn't want the regret of her actions to destroy Dalanesca. Maybe this way, there is a chance for them to make up," he explained.

Sapphire hugged the man that had become her father figure. She snuggled into him and looked up at him with happy eyes. At least when the world was crashing down she would have a father. Drae was good to every single one of them no matter their age or if they were older than they were. She worked tirelessly until she was evacuated early on.

Foxglove on the other hand was head of the temple for now. She was the more tomboyish version of her mother as she gave orders and tried to help where she could. However, she didn’t have the powers her mother did. All she had to go on was the single sentence that had been delivered to her just after her mother’s death.

When she had finally settled down there was commotion that the lord of the house had been injured again. She moved quickly as she went through the crowds and found the room that Drae was in. It was the pulse that first stopped her. The sudden cling to want the crystal. Her fingers itched but she stopped herself. “So how many time are you going to hurt yourself?” Her voice was concerned as she offered a smile to him.

“I heard something the moment mother died… Dart and I rushed back here as soon as I heard it. I don’t know if it was her or not but it told me to come home. I honestly didn’t think I would be able to make it back but here we are… So..” She pointed to the crystal and tilted her head. “What is that? Or is it a secret?”

Drae looked at Sapphire, and realized his words had carried a subtext of the possibility of his departure if Angela was lost. It was hardly his intention, he had simply meant he would not know what to do. He got up and moved over to Sapphire and pulled the girl into a tight hug.
"No, Sapphire, I won't leave you. I can't. The idea and thought of losing your mother is a hard enough pill to swallow. But you and your siblings have become just as important to me as she is. I won't be like the other fathers who didn't stick around. I'll take care of all of you as best I can, because I would rather die than leave you," he said flatly as he embraced her reassuringly. His lips pressed firmly to the top of her soft lavender head. "Do you understand? I love you, Iva and Rohan far to much," he said. "I might be rotten at the job, but I won't abandon any of you ever." He released her and looked at the book she had grabbed and looked at it as she questioned.

"I collected as much as I could, and I think you are absolutely right. Nothing would be better suited than her own essence to bind her soul. It would certainly be less of a shock to the soul to be housed in something familiar," he said, but gave her a look that suggested he didn't approve of her sneaking out to get an eyeball on the chains.

"If we can't smelt it, I think I know of an alchemical process that might work. I'll just need to iron out the details. As for binding her, leave that to me," Drae said as he collected up the books that looked promising. "While I am doing that, I want you to research planar travel and any information on the planes. Can you do that for me, Sapph?"

Things moved quickly after that point. Drae's days were spent either in his work room with the shards he had collected from Angela transmuting them into, surprisingly, a smaller more perfect shard. When it was done, Drae had created a perfect prism roughly seven inches in length and two inches wide. For a metal, it carried a strange blue hue, and was translucent, almost like glass.

He had perfected it almost too late. The next thing he knew, Angela, weak, and skin almost as black as the night from necrosis, was evacuating the Gardens, and was shoving him with Rohan and Iva through a portal to safety in Moliira's realm. He had made preparations though, and marked into his hands and chest were the arcane sygils he would use and hopefully succeed in binding Angela's soul to him, and keep her from slipping away from them.

He could feel the act as it began and he found a quiet spot and began chanting in hushed tones, the prism held tightly in his hands. Magic swirled around him, creating a miniature tornado. As the crystals began to fall from the sky, their was a flash inside the prism and Drae was knocked prone.

When he awoke, he was inside the shrine again, and his head throbbed. The marks on his hands and over his heart burned and were a raw ugly red instead of the inky black they had been drawn in. He could feel a slight pressure in his mind.

So sleepy…

It made him freeze and a feeling of elation hit him. Had he really done it? The crystal lay on the bed table beside him and carried and inner glow that pulsed softly, just like a heart beat.

Sapphire was ready to chuckle but what he said made her freeze. “Are you going to leave us if you can’t save her?” She was suddenly really sad. “I don’t want you to leave Drae.” She didn’t call him father or dad like Iva but he felt like that to her. She continued to look through the dusty tomes as she finally found a book that was worth its salt.

Thinking on the same thing as Drae was she hard at work thinking about it. “Do you have all the shards that Mom has thrown up? I think if we smelted them at a high enough temperature at the blacksmith’s that we could get it to work. The metal she’s been throwing up doesn’t look at enchanted as the one that encases Dalanesca.” It appeared that Sapphire had sneaked out to look at a chain once or twice since she found out about it.

“How large are we talking and can we get that much from Mom if that’s what we have to use?” Her blue eyes were stubborn as she put her hands on her hip. “What will it take to bind her. I don’t know how much longer Dalanesca will be stuck but… If Mom is worried about it, it might not be long.” She pulled more books down. “The metal she made has never been seen before. It might take a bit to figure out how to smelt it together.” She looked back worried for a moment. “Unless we can think of something else.”

"Not necessarily move it… I want to be sure that I can keep her soul from slipping into the Soul Stream if things go south. I'm not ready to let go of her just yet, and I sure as hell am not going to attempt to raise you kids on my own," Drae admitted. "It may not be possible, but I am going to make sure," he admitted as he climbed up the ladder of one the shelves. He pulled down a pile of tomes and set them down on the table.

Drae's hair steadily turned gray from the dust clouds that blew up with each new tome, and his finger tips were becoming black from old ink as he went through the books. So far he was having very little luck, but he had set aside a couple tomes to take a further look at. He looked up at Sapphire, who was equally dust smeared and took the book she proffered.

"Soul binding? That sounds promising," he said as he began looking over the pages. "Lapis could work, but I am afraid it won't be strong enough for a deity," he said thoughtfully. "We'd need a very large, perfect stone…" He began thinking of the strange diamond-like metal that Angela had been vomiting, and wondered if maybe such a stone might work.

Sapphire looked down at Drae and smiled at him. “Well… she’ll be fine right now. She’ll just have to have a conniption with me. She isn’t in the right health to even try to beat my ass today.” She was quite pleased when Drae said she was on the wrong path the entire time. “I was rather concerned when I wasn’t finding anything but that actually.” She climbed down and followed him.

Tilting her head she went to grab a book she thought on it. “Are we going to move mom’s soul somewhere? I mean that seems like an awfully big thing to do to do a deity.” She tilted her head before starting to go through the dark bound books.

They were there for a long time before she stood up with a book. “Drae? Would binding a soul to a gem be effective?” She brought the book over. “I mean… it says based on the gem that it is made for more powerful souls… Could Lapis be it? I mean Arriese people worship for its spiritual power.” Her blue eyes were worried. “I just want to help Mom.”

The library doors opened and closed and suddenly Drae appeared at the bottom of Sapphire's ladder.
"Your mother would have a conniption if she caught you up there," the warlock commented from the bottom of the ladder with arms folded across his chest, as he looked sternly up at her with a steely gaze. "You know those are off limits."

The stern look faded and it turned into a soft smile and he cocked his head to the side. "Besides, I think you are looking in the wrong place," he said and lifted a finger and motioned for his purple-haired adoptive daughter to come down the ladder and follow him. "We need deeper magics than what is in those tomes. Trust me, I went through them already. Had wonderful alchemic and divination research in them, but not what we are looking for," he said as he guided Sapphire to the furthest reaches of the library, back where even the light seemed to fail to reach.

"We are looking for tomes on two topics here, love. One on the transmutation of a soul, and the second being anything on the planes, and travel in between," Drae explained to her. "Now, hop to it!"

“And I am a wife who is very devoted to her husband.” Angela reminded him gently as they laid together in the warm bed. She smiled at him and held him close. “Alright, I’ll rest. If that’s what the doctor requires.” Angela's voice was full of yawns as she closed her eyes and tried to sleep.

In the morning, Sapphire was in the library. She was looking up anything she could on the current situation or situations involving god wars. Her mother looked so sick and to be honest she got worried that her mother was going to send her away soon. Her blue eyes were tearing up as she rubbed her eyes. Before long she climbed some of the higher shelves in the back to look for things.

“There has to be something in these old books.” These were books that were normally off limits but due to the fate her mother had the shell had come down. She was able to reach in and started to pull several things out. “There has to be something!” She was determined as she put the old books onto the table.

She crossed her eyes and looked at all the books she had to pour through. She didn’t even know what the hell she was looking for. Her purple hair was tied up and she had on a light lilac dress. There had to be something in these books. Most of them were enchanted not to open and she realized without the help of someone skilled her mother had created quite the lock.

"Damn my leg," Drae replied with a wave of his hand and he cuddled up with her. "It won't kill me to heal like a normal human being," he commented as he lightly began brushing his fingers through her hair. "For now, you are simply a woman with the most devoted husband," Drae promised her. "And I will hunt tooth and claw to find that rope that I can use to tie you to me," he said softly.

"For now, though, let us sleep. You need rest…" he insisted as he curled up with her.

Drae listened to the sound of Angela's breathing and he willed her to keep breathing, for her breathing to get stronger.

In their mess of tears now they were laughing at the circumstance. Well, a part of it. She had always wanted to be weak enough for him to protect her and now they had that chance. Sure, it wasn’t great but in her heart, it made her warm. She kissed him back before the blue metal came up and she watched as he took it from her. It was as strange time to be laughing.

“I would give up immortality in a heartbeat if I could be with you until the end.” She reassured him. “You find that rope and I will go wherever it is that you want.” She took his hands and she kissed them gently. “Though I don’t think it will ever be that simple. The way I’ve come to understand the Voice is that it sees things far out that effect a massive amount of people. It moves the spheres and Dalanesca’s spheres might not have been needed anymore. It began to shift her and… I think that caused Katja’s death on accident. Dalanesca and I are only putting a small fraction of people in danger and to it… that doesn’t seem like much. It sounds rough but compared to the world weight of the world I’m sure it feels this was the better option.”

It was a crap answer and she knew it but she put her head into him anyway and lightly kissed his neck. “I’m sorry I can’t heal that leg of yours I really did try to earlier. Feels odd not to have magic to do things when I want it to.” She chuckled a bit more now.”

The idea that for once he was stronger than her, that he was completely able to protect her on his own and not the other way around… it was empowering. He couldn't help but smile and chuckle softly through tears.
"You're right," he chuckled softly as he cuddled her close. "While I don't like the circumstances… it is nice to be the one to protect you for once," he said with a wry smile as he kissed her lightly before he pulled back as she coughed up more of the strange blue stone. He sighed and took it from her fingers and clasped it in his palm.

"If the Tree couldn't determine how events were going to play out, then how could it know to quickly make decisions that are best for the realm," he conceded. "And if I have to tied a rope to you… so be it. I'll find a way to make that rope… even if it means you lose your post as goddess and become mortal once again…" he said softly. "I'll find a way…"

Angela moved to wrap herself around him and she felt bad for his limp. Her magic sparked just a tad but it backfired as she tried to heal his leg. She didn’t have much to give any more as she frowned. This was what it had come down to. Her smile came back as she listened to his sadness. He listened to her plead with her and all she could do was smile through her tears. “So tie a rope around me and pull me back. I can’t make promises, and I’m not entirely sure what happens when the Voice doesn’t want a god to fall.”

She sniffled a bit and tried to clear up the tears just a tad. Finally, she laughed as they cuddled up against one another. “I just had the strangest thought.” Her eyes turned to him and she gently jabbed at his side with her index finger. “You’re stronger than me.” It was her attempting to lighten the mood. “Feels good in a way.” She felt terrible for saying such things but these were the small things she was liking at the moment. “I feel fragile for the first time in decades. As weird as it is to say that it feels nice, it does.”

She entangled her fingers with him and rolled on her side. “We still got time before Dalanesca can do whatever to break out. Don’t waste that time crying over fighting me on this. It will take her a while to figure out the puzzle I set up.” She grunted from the pain as she coughed up more of the metal. “The metal is made from me. I suppose more of me than from me. It took a lot to convince the Tree to let me do it. Well, not overly a lot but I did jack the Tree up to itself.” She mused. “I suppose it might have seen it coming.”

She pulled the blankets over them and she put her head into his chest now. She loved the warmth he was giving off. "I never noticed how nice you felt… heat wise."

Drae nodded slowly at her request, and gently lifted her up in his arms and while limping slightly, made his way back into the shrine with her. He sniffed and fought tears as he carried her, listening to her words. He entered their chamber and carried her to the bed.

"If anyone knew you… Angela… no one could ever call you selfish… and if there was any doubt after today, I'll be sure to put them straight," he said, choking up. But I don't want to have to do this without you, Ang. Iva, Rohan… all the girls, Thyme… we all need you, Ang. I don't want to let you go yet…" he said softly as he laid her down and climbed next to her and cuddled her close. He sighed and buried his face into her hair, taking a deep breath of her sweet earthy scent.

"Stay with me… please, Angela…"

Angela stared into those stormy gray as she formed a small smile. “Because she is hurting like I have hurt. I know that if I could have killed the person I felt like was responsible for Lyre I would have. Unfortunately myself and the Voice are off limits.” She snuggled into him and found herself in tears. He was right this wasn’t fair but she had made a choice. “This is not your fault Drae.”

She reached up and gently pushed his hair back. “You are a wonderful husband and father. Cyprus was and is my creation right now. If not for me being hell bent on revenge I would have noticed and I would have seen the signs that have led up to our predicament.”

She looked up to the sunny sky high above them and she felt so tired. “May we go to bed? I know that is requesting a lot… I just want to lay down with you for a time.” She wondered if she was really ready to let everything go. “In the end Drae, I am doing this for everyone. If I was a selfish woman I would continue to lay low and not care but I do care. I know that eventually my defenses would fail and she would kill me anyways. I just want everyone safe. I want Arri safe, I want you safe, I want Iva and Rohan… All of them. I would gladly give myself up if it meant that. I’m sure Moliira would help you and everyone else for a little bit.”

She could hardly even speak now as she cried. “But I just want to make sure you all live. I can’t have you getting hurt anymore. I can’t live with myself Drae. If you, my family, got hurt anymore it would rip me to pieces. I cannot and I will not stand for that.”

"Why, my love? Why should you have to pay the penance for her grief? You would have helped her, would have fixed this if she would have let you," Drae growled. "I just found you, Angela… this isn't fair…" he  said softly, his voice beginning to crack as he lowered himself and her to the ground and he cradled her in his arms. "We've all suffered loss… lost children, lost lovers… Dalanesca shouldn't be allowed to throw a temper tantrum like this just because she couldn't control this Death… I know you say you understand, and I know her rage better than most… but… Ang… this is all my fault…" he said as tears began to stream down his face.

"If I hadn't preoccupied you with Cyprus… then you would have known about the baby…" he said sadly. "You may be fine with this, my love, I am not. I am not fine with this…"

“I might have threatened the World Tree into helping me by jacking it up against it’s own bark.” She was quick to answer as he came closer to her. She snuggled into him and while she could feel a bit of his warmth the black skin was actually colder. It made her shiver as she thought about his next words. She winced at him and gave a smile.

“It’s only a body.” She wasn’t really sure what to say to him. He was so upset with her but her eyes were gentle on him as if she could understand him. She understood why he was so mad at her. “This is a stalling. I can’t make it hold forever against someone who is still at full power Drae.” Her words were soft as she looked away from him. “You could say I knew the risks when I asked. If Moliira can come up with a way to make this all go away we won’t have to worry about her breaking out of it. If she can’t find one in time. Just make sure the kids get out of here. I don’t need them getting stuck in this space if it collapses.” Who was she kidding it was no longer an if but a when.

“The world is bigger than just us. The spheres shifted because it had to. Katja was a tragedy but it happened because of that. The world doesn’t wait for us to be fine or even prepared for what could come. It simply does what it has to. I understand Dalanesca. I also understand that she isn’t going to stop until I’m dead. So, I can buy time for Moliira to find a way to stop it and the hellfire can stop killing people in Revaliir. At the cost of myself I am fine with that.”

She knew he wouldn’t be pleased with her. “I’m really glad that I got married to a man like you Drae. I’m just sorry I had to drag you into a mess like this.”

"Ang, what the hell have you done?" Drae demanded as he rushed up to her as she vomited. The unusual metallic substance that clattered to the ground as she vomitted concerned him. Her green eyes had turned red now and she was quickly losing color. He slipped his arms around her and held her so that she could lean on him.

"Damn my leg, Angela, your body is dying around you!" he snapped at her sharply. "Gods, what have you done to yourself?" he demanded angrily. He looked scared, which was an incredibly uncommon look from him. As a matter of fact, he looked terrified. He reached up and caressed her face. "Getting extra powers just to lock her up in a cage that might hold, Angela? Please tell me you have a back up plan because YOU KNOW she won't let it slide!"

Author: Angela Rose, Posted: Sat Jan 7, 2017 8:18 PM, Post Subject: That Escalated Quickly [P, Event]

Angela was more frustrated that her family was hurt than the person who did it. She wasn’t upset with Dalanesca it was more that Dalanesca was focusing so much of her rage and she had people who didn’t listen. Those two factors caused a lot of problems. So she focused all of her energy and all of her power containing her used to be friend.

When she fell back into the Sundering Gardens she held her stomach as she vomited the diamond-like metal from her stomach. The metal was made from her energy. It was made using almost all of her life force. If Dalanesca broke out of it that would mean certain death. She took a heavy breath as Drae ran towards her.

With a wince, Angela lifted herself up and gave a smile before she once again vomited the metal. “I’m alive. Just barely but I am.” She said that first as she leaned herself once more. Her green eyes were slowly turning a pure red. She had used a lot more essence than she had intended but it must have been necessary. “At least it looks pretty.” She picked up the now solidified metal as she tossed it with her hand.

Ignoring her own pain she looked him over. “How is your leg Drae?”

Everything had seemed to be going so well. As well as things could be expected to go, as far as a siege was concerned. Angela was maintaining defenses well, even though Dalanesca showed no signs of relenting in her onslaught. It was the coming and going from the Gardens that was most perilous, but Drae and Thyme had been working with Moliira to try and locate Dalanesca's mate Marth. It had seemed like the most logical thing to do since they were all but useless in this actual fight between deities. They had made many passages over the week since Drae had first met with Moliira about the feud, but as any smuggler (like Drae) could tell you, the more times you attempt a passage through the same route, the more likely you are to be caught or noticed. Drae had begun to feel that the visits were getting riskier and riskier.

He was proven right. When that fireball came hurtling at them as the exited the tunnels, there was little warning, and little time to prepare. Fortunately for the pair of them, however, Angela knew that they were on the premises, and Adraejen had seen the fireball coming. There hadn't been enough time for a verbal warning, let alone full powered shielding spell, but what Drae had managed to put up had been enough to protect them from the full brunt of the hellfire. The pair of them were blasted in two different directions, flames searing their skin and igniting their clothing. Drae felt his leg snap as he landed and he cried out in pain, before looking to see what had become of Thyme.

He was smoking, much like Drae was, and seemed either dazed or unconscious, it was difficult to tell from the heat shimmer from the fire that blazed around them. With a grunt, Drae dragged himself over to his half-elf 'step-son' and grabbed him by the tunic. He ground out the trigger word for a quick gate spell to Angela's temple through gritted teeth, and they blinked away from the blaze and slid to a halt on the temple.

"Angela!" Drae shouted through the hall, gritting his teeth in pain.

After that, things moved incredibly fast. Drae and Thyme healed quickly thanks to Angela's healing aura within the shrine but the bone took a bit of time. It was enough to keep him from being able to get to Angela before she flew off to the great tree, it kept him from reminding her how much mana she had to control. It was fool-hearty thing, he knew it, and he was sure that the Voice knew it too. He felt the incredible outsurge of magic that she used, and for the first time in quite a while, the noise around the Gardens halted and became calm.

And then she was home. He could sense her in the gardens, and he got up from his chair and hobbled out into the Garden.

"Ang!" he called as he ran towards her. He didn't like the look of her. Even before his eyes her skin seemed to becoming black.
