"Please don't fret about that sort of thing too much, Love," Drae insisted as they watched Rohan play in the grass. "They would not only have to get to him inside the shrine, but they would have to get past you, and then me, and then every single one of his older and equally protective siblings, as well as his Goddess Godmother," he pointed out. "And no matter what, so long as he remained in contact with the earth, there is no place you and I couldn't reach him," he added reassuringly.

"If you think confiding in Bry is safe, and will make you feel more reassured, I won't stop you, so long as you share everything you find out with me," the warlock said as he lightly rubbed Rohan's head as he cuddled up in his mother's arms. He kissed Angela back, just before he began getting scolded for not taking things easy. The half-elf rolled his shoulders experimentally and winced.
"Adrenaline, Love. It can get you through most anything it seems," he admitted, though now he looked quite pale. "And fat chance… that's a boy's job, is to worry his mother and father," he chuckled weakly. "Fortunately, we have the best of all mothers looking out for us."

Angela let Drae do his business and smiled down Rohan. “I don’t know if he can control it all the way. It certainly seems like he can. I don’t know if it might be an emotional response which is why I do worry about him.” Her green eyes looked up into Drae’s steel colored gaze.

She took a deep sigh and stared down at Rohan. “I’m going to put a block on his magic should it get too out of control. I don’t need our baby going some place he shouldn’t and getting hurt. As it stands, he’ll probably become worth something to the outside world if people catch wind of his talents.” There was a dark light in her eyes. “A child prodigy of a goddess is nothing to scoff at. There are bounties on my golden cornucopia. I can only imagine how the black market will see Ro.” She gave warning to Drae. “We can’t fight everyone Dear.”

She snuggled the now tiring infant in her arms and kissed the top of his once dark but now red hair. “He is a mystery to me. Only Iva saw him coming and yet she had been eerily silent on it since he showed up. I wonder if she knows something we don’t. I thought about confiding in Bryony about him and seeing what she knows. I want to be ready for him in any possible way.” She reached up and kissed Drae.

“How is your back? You really shouldn’t have been climbing that tree in your condition.” She frowned a bit as the doctor in her finally kicked back in. “If I had been thinking about it, I would have stopped you and climbed myself. You are in no shape to be playing tag in the tip tops of the trees.” She waved her finger at him. “And you.” She stared down at a sleepy-eyed Rohan. “Stop worrying me. I’ll turn gray or maybe even wilt.” She gave a smile. “My boys will always worry me, I suppose…”

Drae chuckled as he crossed the grass into the flowers and joined Angela as she picked up their son and blew raspberries on his bare belly. He squealed in delight and Drae couldn't help but smile and chuckle.

"I hate to break it to you honey, but our baby boy knows exactly how much trouble he caused," he smiled. "He has to know his limits. His powers can be dangerous and he could get hurt doing things like that," he did say quietly. He poked Rohan's tummy and the infant giggled again.

"You sir, need clothes. While I am grateful that you have my genes, baby boy, I don't think we need to be showing off to the world," Drae chuckled and summoned a diaper for the infant and deftly tied it about the little one's bare bottom.

Angela shot a look up at Drae. She was in a dead set panic as she did as Drae asked. “Sorry,” she waved her hands at him to show she wasn’t going to hit him with the broom again. At the grunts, she sheepishly smiled up at Drae. “Not me. Never me. I didn’t even think he would remember it! Normally babies don’t.” He was far from a normal baby after all.

Dumbfounded as they both were she stared at Drae and back over at the toddling little tyke they had together. “He’s something alright but his behind is going to be a color changing prodigy in a second. Did you hear the words he said to me? And you.” She added in the last bits. “He is going to be worse than Iva is.” She chuckled a bit as she watched her son keep crawling towards the flowers.

“He’ll need to be watched more or we’ll have to put a magic lock on him.” Angela was now concerned as she whimpered. “He could change and swoop into a gate at this point and we’ll never find him!” Of course, Ang was thinking of him going to Parvpora where the goddess was practically powerless with her earth charm.

Rohan once bored sat on his naked rear and looked back at his parents with a squeal. He pointed up at the floating butterfly and Ang had an amused smile on her face. “We have to talk about manners already young man.” She moved and scooped him up. “I’m not even sure if you completely understand what a panic you had us in.” She raspberried his belly and he squealed more as his red and green eyes looked shamelessly at Drae.

“I don’t even know if punishing him will do any good. I’ve never had a baby quite as smart as he is.”

As he made his way up the tree trunk, Angela came out waving a broom to attempt to get Rohan down. As she started waving the broom around she accidentally swatted him a couple times. The bear dislodged from the tree and shifted back into a human form.

"Dammit woman! A bloody broom? Really? Put that away!" he ordered her before he turned and began working his way up the tree. Drae grunted as he climbed up and up and up after his son. As Angela shouted at their son to come down from the tree, their son returned with some grunts that made Drae raise his eyebrow.

"Now, I wonder where he learned to talk to you like that!" Drae shouted down to Angela as he climbed higher. There were some more grunts and Drae glanced back upward. "Oi, don't you take that tone with me!" he shouted as he began gaining on Rohan. Little tyke is barely crawling and he already has his Mother's vocabulary as a bear. Gods help us all.

As Drae reached the higher branches, the monarch that Rohan had followed up into the tree lighted on the wind and fluttered downward back into the garden. A look of disappointment crossed the baby bears face as he looked down to where the butterfly was. As Drae reached out to grab his son by the back of his furry neck, Rohan did something that even Drae wasn't expecting. Rohan shifted form yet again, and a barely fledged black bird lighted down from the bow into the garden. He used his little wings to glide down on the breeze and landed unharmed in the garden where he shifted back into the crawling baby boy he truly was and inched over to the flowers where the butterfly landed and giggled as the butterfly turned and crawled onto his nose.

"What?" Drae found himself asking before he began scrambling down the tree, where he dropped down from the tree and landed in the grass and brushed himself off.

"Our son… is a shapeshifting prodigy."

Angela was quick to follow Drae out to the tree. She had only seen this form a few times and normally it was while playing with Iva. She was panicked now as she looked up in the tree and seen faint movement. “DRAE HE IS UP IN THE TREE.” She ran back into the temple and grabbed a broom as she came out. “Over there!” She pointed as she began to reach up into it with the broom and swat around.

“My lady is that safe? He is only a baby!”

“Safe my ass, if he can climb a tree… he can fall a few feet and I can catch him.” Angela was shifting the broom around lightly. “He’s too high!”

Meanwhile up in the tree, the littlest black bear was working his way up. His green and red eyes were staring at the beautiful orange wings of a monarch butterfly. Soft grunts left his lips as he continued to climb up to try and catch it. The monarch seemed to know what he was up to as it gently evaded him.

“ROHAN, GET DOWN NOW.” Angela was stomping her foot.

Looking down and moving his ears lightly he made an interesting sound… It was more like he was telling his mother off before continuing his way up the branches. Angela in a bewildered start had dropped the broom and was about ready to climb up herself.

"Graying… I don't want to admit that, but with your help, I won't grey much more than this," he chuckled, lightly indicating to the graying streaks in his hair. "I am sure that you have contributed yourself," he chuckled.

They were talking about making him her warlock when they were quite abruptly were interrupted by one of the nursemaid who came rushing in announcing something quite odd.

"He's escaped? He's barely crawling– ah hell," Drae chuckled. "Change my mind? Are you insane?" Drae chuckled. "Yeah, I can track him. Who'd a thought the rugrat would be able to shift at this age?" he wondered out loud as he shed his tattered shirt and vest and shifted into the giant black bear he had learned to control.

The bear grunted and snorted as he pawed down the hallway towards the nursery where he did in fact find that there were baby bear prints and the musky smell of bear mixed with Rohan's natural scent.

I'll be damned… he's my son after all.

He moved over to the open window and took a deep sniff of the open air. Outside he had gone. That made things a touch easier… in a way. The great black bear climbed through the large open window and headed out after the baby that had manifested shifting powers incredibly early. He perked up his ears up at a strange grunting out in the gardens.

The sunshine gleamed off of his shiny black coat as he marched through the sunshine out into the gardens where the great trees cast shade on the flowers that loved the gloom. He heard the grunting again and looked up into the boughs.

Really kid? It had to be a bloody tree? Drae sighed and lumbered up to the tree where Drae started climbing up the tree to retrieve his wayward infant son.

Angela chuckled a bit and nodded. “Consider it done, as long as that’s what you want. I’ll extend it as long as I can.” She kissed his forehead and started to grin a bit as they crossed a threshold in life together.

She moved her hand as he embraced her long enough to boop him on the nose. “You stopped being salty after you came home from the ocean. I would say it’s more of a graying hide maybe.” She checked his hair and teased him. “Gods know you probably have a few grays from the children.”

For a moment she thought about it and nodded. “When you are well… we can set it up. I think it would be nice for you to be able to tap into a little bit of my power, a blessing of sorts. It will help us keep our family safe especially Ro and Iva. As long as you are sure you want to stay in this crazy fa–”

She was caught off with a clergy member came in panting. “My lady!– and my lord! Rohan escaped out of his crib. I’m not quite sure where he’s gotten off too but there are… paw prints? Not big ones but little tiny bear-like prints.”

Angela took a sigh and smiled up at Drae. “You can always change your mind… Crazy only gets worse.” She kissed him softly. “Think you can hunt the little monster down?” She chuckled. Rohan beginning to learn his magic and starting to walk was beginning to become a pain.

"Trade secrets, Love," he smiled as he slipped the ring onto her finger before he kissed the back of her hand.

"Well, my love, if you ever saw fit to extend my mortal life, I will gladly let you do that," he said as he stood up staggering slightly before he pulled her to her feet and slipped his arms about her.

"I've had this planned for a while… believe me, I was hoping for… well a slightly more romantic set up than you patching me up in the infirmary after digging spectral daggers out of my salty hide," he told her gently. "But I suppose, at this point, you are accepting to take me with my flaws and all… and if it also pleases you, I would ask, that you allow me to not only become your husband, but become your personal warlock… for me to make a pact with you so that I am always tied to you, to better protect our family," he offered.

Angela had a sheepish look on her face. “I might have thought about peeking… maybe twice. I was more worried about you than the box. I may have thought about leaving it in Rohan’s crib as not to tempt me, though.” When the thought of jealousy came up she gently itched at her face. “I’m not a woman without bad habits. Jealous was what I was.” Though he did look at her the same way that he looked at Eva. Maybe that was why she had a jealous streak.

She almost got up to put him in bed when he opened his mouth. She instead stared at him with a dead on glare as he knew he should have been in bed. His words softened it as she knew what was coming next. It didn’t help the inevitable rain of tears that formed in her eyes at his words. It was coming and she knew that but still… mortal emotions were nice to feel.

She didn’t even look at the ring for a few moments as she wiped her eyes clean and chuckled at him. When she finally did look at it, she found herself looking at the most beautiful piece of craftsmanship that had ever entertained her temple. “I don’t even want to know what you did for that.” It had to be a running joke about the type of man Drae could have been at times.

“You know I would have you through good times and bad. Until the end of your mortal life and well into my immortal reign. Even when you cease to exist will I love you.” There was no secret that Drae would pass before she would but still she loved him all the same. “How long have you been planning this?” It wasn’t the most perfect moment but when she stared down at that ring, she knew he had been thinking about it for a long time.

"Believe me, my love, I have no intention of messing with her ever again. And I think that I did a damn good job making sure that she won't be coming around here," he said softly as he shifted so that he could be sitting in front of Angela. "I know, it's a terrible habit, that both of us need to break," Drae said with a slight laugh. He reached out gently and took the velvet covered box from Angela's hands.

"I am very surprised that you didn't peek, so I am very, very proud of you love. I would have hated for this surprise to be ruined. Now, if I know you, you were just the teensyiest bit jealous while I was talking to Eva… but believe me when I promise that my heart belongs to you and the children," he said before he carefully slid down off the cot and knelt in front of Angela.

"Now… Ang… I want to be able to always be there for you, for Rohan, for Iva and Sapphire, and the twins. I might be the father figure to the oldest ones like Fox and Amaranth and Ash, but at least I want to be there to support them.." he said as he took her hand and lifted the box. He snapped the box open, and inside was a beautiful ring, carved of gold with a delicate red rose made carved from exquisite ruby, with a diamond inset in the center of the open bud. The band was fashioned to look like the stem and leaves of the rose.

"Angela Rose, Goddess of Life… goddess of my life… please… will you do me the honor, of becoming my bride and wife… for what remains of my life?" he asked her.

Angela did a mock pout face at him as they spoke. The time that they had met had been rather difficult for her. It was filled with trials and many, many unanswered questions. Taking her time to give him her best smile she brought the box out from her pocket and slipped it into his free hand.

“Don’t ever make me think my psychotic sister is going to kill you again. Not peeking in the box is a terrible game that I rather suck at.” She leaned in and kissed him. “You need to learn to ask for help. You are rather terrible at that like I am. Though I don’t know what good I would have been to you. I do have a slight temper when it comes to my sister.”

Slight? She only sent her sister to the valley of brimstone and made her become a demon in the hopes that she could rip her heart out again. Slight was hardly the word for what she had done. She gave him a sheepish smile at that thought and pondered on the box. She wasn’t stupid but at the same time, she for once in her life wanted to be shocked by the outcome of the situation. “So… what is in the box?”

"I'm grateful she did," Drae smiled. "Maybe… just maybe we will meet again someday…" he said softly with a gentle smile at Eva. He shielded his eyes for a brief second before Angela whisked their spirits back into the spirit stream, perhaps to be reincarnated. He felt as though a great weight was lifted, and he felt a sigh of relief. He looked at Angela as she flopped back into the chair and she asked if he had thought she was whiny.

"Well… maybe only a little," Drae chuckled as he reached out and took Angela's hand in his as he propped himself up on his elbow.
"But not enough to drive me away," he promised. He squeezed her hand. "I know that had to have been hard on you, my love," he said softly. "But… thank you for doing that for me, and for them," he said. He gave her a smile.

"Do you still have that box?" he asked her as he slowly sat up.

If it was something that Angela was ashamed of herself, it was that she was jealous watching them both. He was so in love with her still and Angela couldn’t blame him. If it was Wyatt and her, it would be the same way. Crossing her arms, Angela watched the scene after this. It was the beautiful connection that Drae and Eva had.

Eva gave a laugh and shook her head. “Adraejen, you’ve been fine. You had all the time in the world to heal. It’s not about what you’ve done, it’s about what you have become. You are a wonderful man and even though you might have been annoyed with Angela at first, which she knows, by the way, she loves and cares about you. It helped you heal.” Angela made a teasing face at Adraejen.

She smiled more at her old lover and chuckled a bit. “I know you would have. I never had any doubts. The excitement and how scared you were when it came to Rohan… It made me smile a lot. I’m not suffering nor is our baby. We are happy. We are happy you are alright.”

On Drae’s command, Angela got up and reached back up into him before giving the small bundle to Eva. “First, you know from my dealing with souls that while the baby has a soul it is incomplete due to the stage at which it died.” She rubbed the back of her head. “It knows basic emotions but we do know you make your baby very happy Drae.” She wasn’t even sure on the sex but Eva gave her a smile.

“She is a good woman Adraejen. She could have made us go away so she didn’t have to see this. She could have done a lot of things but she didn’t. She actually petitioned for this meeting at some point. I didn’t want this, I just wanted you to be happy and not ashamed.” Looking to Angela, Eva nodded at her and Angela gave a smile.

“Your souls will be returned to the soul stream. It’s a life cycle that floats invisible between the realms of gods and man.” The goddess paused and hesitated when she looked at Drae. She waved her hand and the souls glowed with a brightness that could blind for a short time. They disappeared like fireflies. Angela fell back into her chair and looked at Drae. “Did you really think I was whiny?” It came with a laugh.

Drae grunted at the brief moment of pain as Angela reached into him and detached Evangeline's soul from his.

"Eva…" Drae said softly, his eyes full of wonder as the woman he had once given his heart to. She was still as lovely as he remembered, though compared to Angela was might have appeared plain. He couldn't help a smile at her as she told him this look didn't suit him.
"You always knew…" he chuckled slightly. "Gods, Eva… I… I never thought for a second…" he felt the guilt well up in him, but her words that it wasn't in fact his fault.

"You have been with me all along…" he said softly. "You saw what I became after I lost you… I could not be more ashamed of that," he said softly. But he couldn't help but give a small smile when she praised him for being a good father.

"I do wish I could have been a father to our child… Eva…" he said softly. He looked at Angela as she explained that she could sever their connection, and make his soul whole again.

"I just… I want you to be at peace…" he said softly. "You have my permission… I just want you to be at peace," he said honestly.

Angela’s face was sad as she nodded to him. He had already answered her by the time her lips began to part. She chuckled a bit and nodded. “You have always caught on fast to my powers. Though to be honest it is only recently that I’ve been able to hear them. I haven’t been use to my powers until now my dear.” She patted the head of her beloved as he held her hand.

Taking a deep breath she reached into Drae’s body as if he wasn’t there at all. “It might hurt for a moment but I’ll keep you stable.” She gave a smile as she pulled the soul out of him. The woman was as strong and silent as always. She looked so plain, Angela shamelessly thought. She was jealous that much was sure but she sucked it up and smiled. “You can speak to him now.”

Evangeline nodded and formed words for the first time in a decade. It was distorted at first. “Hello, Adraejen.” It was the first thing she got out as she stared at how broken her lover was now. “That is not a good look on you.” Perhaps it was from talking with Angela so much now that she was so verbal with him. “It’s like Angela said… You shouldn’t think it was your fault. I’m glad it made you live. You are a wonderful father. I’ve seen you with Rohan and I am jealous… but… I am glad. Angela knew that it was the demon who did this and we were discussing how to fix it without you finding out.”

“Process is messy and not at all safe without the consent of the person who it is on,” Angela added in as  Evangeline stared at Drae. “I didn’t want to do it without your permission but Evangeline has her own ideas for what to do. Stubborn woman.” It made Evangeline laugh.

“You need to be strong Adraejen. You have so many people you need to be strong for.”

Drae inhaled deeply of the aromatic fumes that wafted up from the salves and poultices that she rubbed in his back. They seemed to revitalize him, but it made the emotions that for so long he had buried deep in his psyche break that he could not stop the sobbing. He gazed up at Angela, his eyes red and puffy both from crying and from the aroma of the herbs. He listened to her words, trying to grasp what she was telling him. He lifted a hand and held the one of hers that she had used to caress his cheek.

"You… you can see them?" he asked shakily. He scoffed slightly. "Of course you can…" he answered himself softly. He looked up at her when she mentioned the name, a name he had not been able to utter for near a decade now. It was clear she knew what she was talking about. He took in a steadying breath.

"Sh-she wants to talk to me?" he asked shakily.

Author: Angela Rose, Posted: Fri Nov 11, 2016 8:12 PM, Post Subject: Repentance

Angela moved her hands and massaged in the salve. Her eyes were sad as he spoke and she grumbled a bit as he wiggled about. She poked him to lay still in spots she knew would sting and then carefully caressed his face. “Don’t pull.” She was loading his skin with different type salves. The plants within them let out their aroma and finally she sat next to him. She stared into his eyes. “Demons are crafty Drae. That’s what they do. That alone isn’t your fault. Even if you had asked she wouldn’t have given up her true name.”

For the longest time she let Drae just sit there crying. His strength would be slow to return but she ensured him not passing out so they could talk. “First off, I would like you to know that’s not how they feel.” She choked on the information at first. She had kept something so intimate away from him. “Second, if Evangeline could have a moment to tell you to stop crying so we could talk to you. I’ve known for a while now. When you are sleeping soundly at night I can see into your soul. I knew when I felt desires not yours that someone else was there.”

She bobbed her head a bit as if thinking on it. “She’s been watching and your kid has been watching too. They don’t think it is your fault. I don’t think this is your fault. However, Cyprus told you something that I knew you would eventually find out. We were waiting for the right time, I let her choose when that time would be. This isn’t something I ever wanted to tell you… You are my fragile flower. Mortal.” She cradled his face gently in her palms. “I’ll make her pay Drae, I swear I will. I’ll put all of my energy into it when I can. For right now, you are my entire world and I need to make sure you live.”

There was a pause in her thought. “As I have told Evangeline, I can make your soul whole where death ate away. The baby and Evangeline fill that spot right now as a stitching so to speak. It is crude and easily undone.” She thought about it. “It would allow them to stay here or move on if they so wished.”

To see the goddess carrying a full grown man like he was a mere infant must have been a sight to see, and if Drae hadn't been in a lot of pain and slipping in an out of consciousness he would have been a tiny bit indignant.

He didn't complain much when she placed rather unceremoniously on a cot and began cutting away what was left of his torn and slashed vest and shirt. He almost mumbled at complaint at the loss of such fine garb but he hissed at the pulling of the magic remnants from his back. He was in and out mostly, but he could hear Angela asking him what happened.

"This is my fault…" he said softly. "Ten years… ten years she slept in my subconscious and I was never smart enough to ask who she was… ten years and it wasn't until after Sapphire was going through the family history with me that I realized who she was and what a pawn I could be to her when she woke up…" he explained. Took in deep calming breathes.

"She stirred at that point, maybe it was something about finding out who she was that made her stir. That's what you sensed," he explained. "When I realized… I knew I couldn't be that pawn. I couldn't risk her harming your or the children through me… so left so that I could cut her off. To separate her from me, to break our bond. I didn't expect her to have magic enough to do this, but she is trapped where she is at…" he told Angela.

"She… she told me what she had planned… she thought I was turning to her, so she spilled everything…" he said, though everything was growing foggy. A rush of emotion overcame him and his throat got tight, and he actually began crying.

"Gods… Ang… I killed them… It was all my fault… I didn't know… I didn't think…" he sobbed softly before losing consciousness completely.

Angela had been left in shock as she fell down to her knees. Her fingers fingered at the box. It was little and her eyes watered at the very thought of what was in there. That had been a good-bye from him. It was a just in case but it still shook her to her very core. She got up and pocketed the treasure he gave her as she walked through her halls. People were avoiding her just because of the look on her face. It was like someone had died.

She hid in the baby’s room for the longest time as she watched over Rohan. “Your dad is off doing something stupid.” Or maybe he was doing it to protect them. She was almost in tears as the time moved on. Soon there was crying for her and she snapped out of it. She ran out of Ro’s room as if her life depended on it. “Melina! Get my clinic ready. I need herbs now.” She was yelling at the priestess who panicked just as much as her goddess did.

She picked Drae up into her arms. “Filthy woman I’ll kill her myself.” She was cradling him as they got into her healing clinic. The sounds of the rainforest were all around them as they settled in. She laid Drae down on his stomach. “I’m sorry I have to have you this way.” She finished ripping his shirt off and began to pull out bits of magic from his wounds. “I’ll get you fixed up.” She was whimpering in between her tears as she wiped her eyes and began to grab her salves and potions. “What happened?”

There was a slight whirlwind of magic in the main hall of the shrine when Drae suddenly appeared in a rush of wind on the hard floor. The breath was knocked from his lungs as he hit the floor hard. Teleportation was an exact science, and when one can't focus properly, things could go very wrong. Fortunately, he had managed to at least land where he meant to be, and for the moment he was pretty sure he had managed not to loose limbs.

His mind was alight with pain. Icy hot, dull, but sharp. It was hard to classify exactly what the pain was, but it was making his head blurry. He inhaled sharply and blood flowed freely from his back onto the fine wooden floor. He panted and stared at the ceiling.

"Angela…" he called hoarsely. "Angela… help…" he called again.
