To the east of the capital city of Adeluna lies the Moritius Swamp: a large bog that has often been used by the imperial crown as an execution ground in the past. The transition to this area could not be starker, especially since the verdant grass of the west appears to drop into the waste’s perimeter like a sheer cliff. Toxic gases burst into the air from these noxious grounds, causing all life to decay more rapidly than it should and making the swamp suitable as a body dumping ground that does not require a trip into the mountains.

Large lichen grow on the boundaries of the swamp water, ranging in color from sickly yellow to putrid green. No trees can survive out here in the swamplands, however, even if giant mushrooms can and often do. The swamp is dangerous, true, but these mushrooms are an incredibly valuable, economic good: one of the most prized in the area. They are favorable to alchemists continent wide, and the swamp is the only place in Canelux where they grow in such large numbers and quality above the surface.

Any visitors who come to seek out these splendrous mushrooms, however, must be cautious, especially if they use any type of fire. Many dangers lurk within these swamps, including necromancers, quicksand, poisonous fumes, and combustible gases. One wrong flame in the wrong place and you could send an entire area, along with yourself, up in smoke. Many people have thrown up signs like “Beware” or “No fire magic,” to warn entrants into the swamp. Yet those same signs are often consumed by the area after a short while, rendering them unreadable. Many charred bodies of people, horses, and the occasional wagon can be found floating about in the swamp as a result, but rarely for long. Here, the swamp waters consume all, including unwary adventurers.
