Around Canelux, standing tall at famous sites of battle, near great halls of music, or at the entrances of certain towns that see much traffic by travelling adventurers, one can find large bronze statues of heroes and poets, gateways to The Dream Arena. In order to use one of these statues in this manner, one must hold a small offering - a single silver coin, wet with the blood of those who would pass - against the cold metal of the statue. Do so, and you will find yourself in the sprawling dream-city of Musalia.

The city offers much in the way of facilities for adventurers. Fletchers, smiths, tailors, food merchants, taverns, and other establishments can be found in Musalia. The goods are fair, but the prices might be a little steep. The taverns, however, are the scene of many a good song and fight, and will offer good rest to those who intend to challenge the area - but no rest for visitors.

From the entry point of the temple-realm and clean through the city towards its main feature, one finds a long pathway called the Walk of Glory. Here, statues of the greatest heroes and poets of history stand tall and proud, cast in fine bronze. The path itself is etched with the names of lesser, but still famous, poets and heroes, never fading from the feet traversing the granite cobbles. Those who win in the Arena, gain Torn’s favour, and survive his quest, may also be seen depicted along the pathway.

The arena itself is situated in the middle of the city, a massive spherical structure made from the finest marble. The outer ring is divided into six equal portions. These are the Armoury, where prospective challengers of the Warrior’s Gauntlet come to prepare, with room to accommodate them; The Bard’s Halls, where those who’d challenge the musical gauntlet may prepare; The Public Mall, where private people can mingle, eat, or find rooms; The Library of Song, where the epics of the world are collected and stored; The House of the Fallen, where those who die in the arena are laid to rest; and the Chambers of Mystery, where only Torn, his family, his angels and his clergy are permitted access.

The inner circle is a single, massive arena, capable of housing more than twelve thousand spectators. The seats of the arena are constantly occupied by the dreaming folk of Revaliir; People whose lives are too mundane to experience glory firsthand can visit the arena in their dreams, and see the battles and hear the songs offered by more ambitious souls, and so get a taste of adventure themselves. Visitors who offer silver and blood may also take seats in the arena if they wish.

There are two ways to challenge the arena and win an audience with the Prince of Epics. One is reserved for fighters, while the other is reserved for bards. Victory in either gauntlet will win you an audience with Torn, and perhaps the right to accompany him on a quest, and have one’s name and likeness added to the Walk of Glory.

The Bard’s Gauntlet

In order to challenge the Bard’s Gauntlet, one must first have completed a pilgrimage, visiting the cities of Adeluna, Egjora, and Arri, performing for - and winning the favour of - a nobleperson in each of those cities. This pilgrimage can be taken many times, but must be completed once before each attempt at the Bard’s Gauntlet.

The Gauntlet itself is fairly straightforward. Once you’re accepted as a challenger, you will enter the arena to perform for the audience. The performance can be anything - song, dance, juggling, as long as it is entertaining. If the audience finds you worthy of cheer, you will face off against the current challenger of the Gauntlet. The two of you must then sing a song or play a piece of music of your own design, and the one who the Seven Muses and the audience like the most, is declared winner. After this, you need to wait for another three challengers, and defeat each in turn in a similar contest, something which can take weeks. You will be expected to entertain the audience regularly while waiting for challengers. Once the third challenger is beaten, you need to play one last performance, and then you will be granted an audience with the Prince of Epics.

The Warrior’s Gauntlet

To challenge the Warrior’s Gauntlet, one need only be brave enough to declare oneself as a challenger. The arena will test you five times. Once against a beast - a small group of wolves, or perhaps a bear or similar - to qualify. This fight will not take place in the arena, and so can win you no glory. After this, a challenger must defeat three other challengers in single combat. Challengers get up to one week of rest between fights. Win three times, and you get another week before you must challenge a monster - basilisk, hydra, giant, cyclops, it is all up to chance. Defeat this monster, and you gain the right to meet Torn.

The first time you challenge the Warrior’s Gauntlet, you do so as a dreamer. Fail, and you wake up next to the statue that brought you to The Dream Arena in the first place. The second time, however, much more is at stake. The second time you challenge the gauntlet, you must face all challenges a second time, but failure as a second-time challenger means death, and a burial in the House of the Fallen, your name to always be etched upon the walls of the arena.

If you manage to succeed in either gauntlet, you will win an audience with Torn. You will reside in the palace-like Chambers of Mystery while waiting for the Prince of Epics to find time to meet with you, priests and angels tending to your every need. Whether you must wait for the audience for mere minutes or full weeks is up to chance, and the whims of the Prince himself. Once you do, you get one meeting, during which you must convince Torn to take you along on a quest, or to join you on one. If you fail to do so, you must face the gauntlet again - and win, again - in order to get another chance. Succeed, and Torn will take you on an adventure, with the opportunity to gain great fortune and glory. Survive, and your likeness will be added to the Walk of Glory, your name to be forevermore sung as one of the greatest of your time.

Torn's god rules:
i: Torn can make anyone feel an intense desire to overcome massive challenges, even where logic dictates it should be impossible. This also incurs a blessing to help them succeed.
ii: If Torn approves of - or praises - a piece of music, that song will evermore sound more appealing to mortal ears.
iii: Torn has the ability to summon any creature he has personally slain, to serve any purpose - or transform into one himself.
