Vadra hails from an archipelago nation somewhere to the southwest of Abed. Due to the nature of her nation's geographical location, Vadra (along with many Ashtanda) became a naval officer after several years of serving in the Ashtandan navy. As the captain of the grand ship "Vashti's Spirit", Vadra was well respected within Ashtandan borders, and in some places without. However, due to the very convincing and manipulative skills of her second mate, Bende, Vadra's crew made mutiny under false pretenses - killing Vadra's first mate, Kala, who also happened to be her wife. Left for dead off the coast of Abed, Vadra was taken in by a family of that nation, and nursed to health. She repaid their kindness by helping with fishing and other activities, though Vadra felt empty inside with the loss of her beloved. She was never one for the idea of revenge, but she was afraid if she ever came across Bende again, she would do something she might regret.

For an Ashtandan, Vadra is quite bizarre. Where most Ashtandans have only four arms, a rare genetic mutation caused Vadra to develop eight of them. Known as "Kini Alima", or "Eight Limbs", this disorder is rarely a danger to those it affects - although it certainly holds some significance in societal leanings - some positive, others negative. Kini Alima never bothered Vadra. To her, it provided her extra hands with which to do things. Her unique style with its rather obvious lack of any sort of real clothing above the waist, is possible because of Kini Alima. Certainly, many Ashtandan women could probably do the same, but most prefer to use their arms for more productive activities. Due to her exceptional situational awareness and sense of direction, Vadra is a skilled fighter that is difficult, although not impossible, to flank in melee range.
