All About Zayn Asghar
Zayn Asghar is one of the ant-folk, a distant relative of the Agaw. They live among the giant ants of Sahel, creating sprawling underground colonies. In appearance, they look almost like a cross between dwarves and human. Taller than dwarves but shorter than humans, and with wide shoulders and thickly muscled arms, they share traits with their ant cousins. They have grey skin, black hair, and eyes completely black. They are strong, able to lift many times their own body weight. They are able to see within the dark, and their senses are more sensitive than those of humans. Each of the ant-folk has minor telepathic potential when in proximity to others of their kind. Within the colony, this creates a hive mind, ruled over by the Queen. It also allows them to form bonds with the giant ants, and allows for communication with them. Ant-folk are born into their roles, and stick within them, either Workers of Soldiers. While magic is rare among the ant-folk, the most common occurrences come in the form of flight and earth melding, though there is a species of fire ant-folk who can control flame.
Zayn was born to be a soldier, and like all his folk, was loyal to his Queen. While he could have remained within the colony, as did the majority of his kind, for his whole life and remained happy about it, fate had something else to say. While patrolling above ground, Zayn was spirited away by an unknown force and deposited on Canelux. At the time, none of the locals seemed to have even heard of Onnen, and he had no way of returning home. Cut off from his connection with his colony, and without any idea what else to do, Zayn had to learn to survive in a world which was alien to him.
He was able to return home, after the war, but he felt like an outsider, but was able to reconnect with the giant ant he had bonded with. Over the years he has tried many professions, from mercenary, to bodyguard, to bounty hunter. Currently, he works as an investigator, taking on work in whatever form it takes, hunting for bounties whenever he has a dry spell.
Zayn is 5' 4", thick with muscle, and keeps his hair down to stubble and his face cleanly shaven. He prefers a long coat, wide brimmed hat, and has taken to smoking a pipe. He is not a handsome man, having been knocked around the face one too many times. He is quiet, which came from years spent communicating in thought instead of speech, and comes across as serious. He still has his old sword, spear, shield, and hauberk, but these days he sticks to knuckle dusters and a club during his work, his time as a paid killer long gone.
