All About Nightshade Tegeneria
Backstory locked: Wait for homecoming to release (coming soon)
Disclaimer: If you're an arachnophobe, don't look up any of the names in this backstory, especially Nightshade's last name.
What is known: Nightshade is a half drider, coming out of a brood of 50 siblings of which she was considered the runt. While her brother Mactan, Blondi, and Merus became somewhat of a local legend, and the rest of her siblings also became successful, Nightshade always remained rather weak. Despite all this Nightshade is the only survivor of her brood, coming out of [redacted] a bit bumped up but otherwise unharmed.
Abilities:
Being a spider Nightshade has several racial abilities such as the ability to cling to walls, complete silence when walking due to her needle-like legs, no reduced vision in the darkness, an inherent ability to produce silk, invisibility in the dark, poisonous fangs, and a venomous projectile attack from her wrists (acidic webs).
Nightshade also boasts a tough exoskeleton like any other drider, though being half she only has it covering her legs and arms, not her chest and head. Nightshade's hardened exoskeleton protects her against stabbing, piercing, and slashing type damage such as daggers, arrows, and swords but are very vulnerable to crush, blunt, or magic type damage such as a punch from a gauntlet, a blow from a mace, or spells designed to go through armor.
Nightshade's exoskeleton also has a third use: The super lightweight of her exoskeleton (being about 70% lighter than human bones) gives her much more expendable strength, putting her ability to pull, lift (if it weren't for the delicate balance she must always maintain), punch or otherwise just move heavyweights on par with that of a scaled-up ant.*
Nightshade, like any drider or spider, can produce webs, but due to her size (compared to the average spider), her webs are quite strong and can serve as ropes. This allows Nightshade to do anything from setting up traps to using it to create clothes (which is her preferred usage)
Nightshade's legs are pointy, comparable to a sewing needle in terms of sharpness, not only does this completely eliminate any sound made from footsteps but it also makes any sort of kick or stomp deal stab type damage instead of blunt, making her quite deadly when she has a height advantage.
Nightshade has venom, like any spider. But oddly she can not administer it through a bite. Nightshade's venom is corrosive and she will imbue her webs with venom for a deadly armor melting burst attack with poor range.
Nightshade has 4 eyes that faintly glow. Her extra set of eyes gives Nightshade much more spatial awareness and depth perception (a must when usually clinging to a ceiling.). Her bodyplan for her eyes also allows her to catch other people, be it threats or prey in bad conditions. Where two eyes would need more time to 'confirm' having seen something, Nightshade can detect anything that's not invisible much faster.
By nature of being a spider that looks larger than most animal spiders, any sort of non-drider spider creature that's shorter than her will not attack Nightshade.
Lastly, having 4 eyes that faintly glow in the dark, Nightshade can trick someone into thinking she is much further away than she really is. By closing her primary set of eyes and leaving her secondary set open, it will look as if Nightshade is much further away than she really is.
Weaknesses:
First and foremost, Nightshade is a careful, timid, and withdrawn person who will do her best to avoid regardless, unless she has a mark on someone.
Nightshade's chitin is weak against magic, blunt trauma, and crushing damage while her torso and head are unprotected by chitin.
Nightshade's needle-like legs impede her ability to run quickly on the sand, snow, and other soft terrains as she will quickly sink into it or be forced to take on a quadrupedal pose.
Nightshade is an obligate carnivore. Her body will reject plant matter when consumed in large quantities and even in low quantities her body has trouble digesting it. When left without meat for too long Nightshade's ability to stay hidden will suffer, as she'll try to obtain meat from anywhere.
Nightshade's web production is directly tied to her appetite. She can only reliably produce silk when her body can convert fat into silk.
Nightshade's body plan not only offers no protection against both heat and cold, but it also makes swimming near impossible.
Nightshade has no nose, like other spiders her sense of smell is connected to her chitin, making poisonous traps twice as effective.
As with any sort of stealth-based class, Nightshade is very vulnerable to stray hits.
Lastly, Nightshade's needle-like legs are generally her biggest weakness. Since they are needles, they provide no sort of grip, making her very easy to push away or tackle, this also makes it hard to actually use her high strength as without any sort of grip there's no way to focus it into a point. Her needle legs' biggest weakness however is in the fact that without feet, Nightshade must constantly maintain her balance.
*Ants have their strength due to their lightweight exoskeleton, not any sort of complex muscle mass.
