Personality: Damian is charismatic, clever, narcissistic, and driven by an obsessive desire for power. He is also very manipulative and highly persuasive when striking a deal. However most of his bargains generally help himself more than other people. He actually doesn’t seem to hold grudges. He doesn’t see himself as bad at all in fact he believes that what he is doing is actually the right thing to do. However if he needs to be cruel in order to get his goals completed then he will do it willingly without a second thought.

Backstory

When he was a baby the house he was born in already had twelve children. His mother had enough trouble raising one child. So Damian was sent to live with his aunt who was just as poor as his mother and father. His aunt ended up raising the child since she was unable to have a child of her own. But this didn’t mean that his aunt was good. Her goals for Damian was to get him far in life. To make him tougher and stronger than anybody else. The world was cruel and didn’t give any slack to anybody. His aunt, Lamia, knew that she herself was too poor and too old to get far in life. But if she could make her nephew powerful enough then she might be able to control him. Make him do whatever she needed him to do. When she no longer needed it she would just discard him.

When he was six he started his training. First his aunt focused on shaping his beliefs. Lamia only allowed to let him hear stories of those who were smart and gained strength through charisma and cleverness. She made sure the goal was power and showed through story why it was the only thing worth fighting for. Yet she also made certain that he knew that there were clever ways to get at that power. Through manipulation, charisma, and planning. Of course becoming physically strong was important to but if he was able to, then it was better to be smart and in charge than strong and underneath authority. Unless that authority was her of course. She then constantly told him how he needed his aunt more than anybody else in the world. How she was the only one that would ever help or protect him. That she was the only one who really mattered. They both were the only ones who really mattered in this world.

When she taught him about the gods she focused primarily on the tree of life. She emphasised on how interesting it was that the Tree let there be evil and good in the world. How it seemed to be toying with everyone around it. As if we were all just some entertaining game. So that was why it wasn’t important to consider the goods or evils of the world. If this powerful being was unwilling to make the world good or evil then there wasn’t really a point to either side. Unfortunately there wasn’t much that she could do to make Damian more intelligent since she was uneducated and they were too poor to do anything about that. However Lamia was able to teach him about being able to charm people. She showed him the importance of manipulation. When Damian was seven years old, they had gotten some new money from Lamia’s ex husband. Apparently he had died and left some money in the will for Lamia. In fact it was a large portion which caused suspicion over whether or not Lamia had been secretly seeing her ex husband. She didn’t concern herself with those rumors and instead used a bit of money to set up something.

Something for Damian that she knew would stick with him for the rest of his life. Damian entered an alleyway when he was on a trip to the market. Then suddenly a trap was sprung and thugs appeared. The thugs beat Damian to an inch of his life. Then they stole all the things he had on him, including his clothes. He was left shivering in the alleyway with only shorts on. The only way he was able to get home was if he walked through the streets. People, not understanding what had just happened, laughed at the fact that he had no clothing. The boy went home where his aunt gave him new clothes and explained to him that it was because he was too stupid and too weak. That’s why the whole thing was his fault own fault. In truth Lamia had just paid some thugs to rob him and hurt him. That way Damian would have experienced what it was like to be weak and to give him more motivation to grasp that power that Lamia so desired. That was the first lesson she had taught him. Lesson one, the weak cannot survive. After that event she managed to get him into a school for lower class children and got a poor guard to teach him sword fighting.

Lamia did not expect the school to give Damian a great education. However the school did allow him to be near other children. It was a good place to practice. After all children were incredibly cruel. They bullied, teased, and created rankings amongst themselves. Lamia taught him how to manipulate people and now he could practice at school. At first Damian was teased and picked on like all the others. However he managed to follow his bullies and discovered their little secrets. Like how one of them had a crush. Or how another secretly wanted to fly. He began gathering these little secrets about the bullies. Then he blackmailed the bullies into working under him. Just like how his mother taught him. The bullies changed from picking on other students for no reason to being controlled by Damian.

Now at this point Damian didn’t really know what to do with this new power. So Lamia explained to him that it was best to befriend the other students. Then create a place of peer pressure so that what he said in the classroom was law. Anybody who didn’t follow the peer pressure would end up being bullied through the bullies Damian had blackmailed. Damian followed his mother’s instructions and ended up controlling his classroom. The fellow students, with the exception of the bullies, didn’t even realize how much power he wielded over them. They just assumed it was all the bullies’ fault. So that way if any adults found out about any of this, the bullies of the school would be blamed. Even if the bullies tried to expose the whole blackmail event, it was Damian’s word against their untrusted words. Lamia was proud of Damian and rewarded him for doing so. This was the second lesson, how to manipulate people and society. Half of his time was spent at school the rest of that half was used to learn sword fighting.

When he was eleven, his aunt showed him how to survive on his own in a forest. Unfortunately he was refusing to kill. So during the second week of teaching him how to survive, she left him alone in the middle of the night. Lamia wanted to see if he could survive and thrive without her. Would he kill if his life depended on it? So she left, taking everything with her and returned five days later. Damian had manage to find a sharp rock and make weapons for himself. Like a small arrow had hunted small animals. He had ended up killing an old man who was trying to steal hard won food that Damian had captured. He had done it so that he would survive. His morals against killing had been torn apart. This was the third lesson that Lamia had taught him. This lesson taught him that he needed to abandon morals if it meant his success.

The fourth lesson was that friends would betray eventually. Lamia set up an incident where Damian had a very close friend when he was thirteen. Then she managed to get the friend to betray Damian. The friend had been trusted with Damian’s closest secret. The fact that he wished to get married one day. Lamia had convinced Damian’s friend to convince her. Then she explained to Damian why he marriage was fine as long as it was for success and not for love. Damian asked how she knew and Lamia explained that his so called friend told her. Damian learned that he should never trust these so called “friends”. The rest four years was spent in training to become a fierce fighter and a charismatic man. Damian had learned many more lessons from his aunt. He had become distant from others unless it was to use them. He became apathetic and hungry for power himself. At the age of eighteen there had been conflict with his aunt. She was realizing that she was losing power over him and was trying to regain that power. But it was too late. Damian had learned from the lessons that she had taught him. Instead of letting her manipulate him further it was in his own interest to end that. So he did. Damian had been preparing dinner inside the cabin one day. The fireplace fire was raging and a lot larger than it probably should have been.

Damian was waiting with dinner ready for his aunt. Lamia seemed pleased and sat with him to eat dinner. But she then noticed something strange about Damian. He wasn’t eating the food. Instead he was just watching her with predatory eyes. Lamia’s eyes widened in horror as she looked at her food. The food had been mushroom stew. Lamia had already eaten several spoonfuls of the stew. She quickly began to feel the effects of the mushrooms. She stood up and backed away from Damian. But Damian just stood up and grabbed onto her. Laying her gently onto the chair so that she wouldn’t fall onto the ground. He felt sorrowful that she was dying. But this was something that he needed to do. She was the last person who he cared about. The last person who made him weak. The last person who had control over him. Lamia seemed to understand this because as she was smiling as she was dying.

I’ve taught you too well.” Lamia said gasping for breath, “Go my son. Make your mark on history’s pages. Because I guarantee you will not be forgotten.”

Damian smiled, he knew that he was determined to rise. Far beyond than anything that his aunt could possibly dream of. He waited until she was dead. Then he threw her body into the fire at the fireplace. He then took everything that he could possibly need for the road. With a final look at his old home, he burned it down. Leaving a nothing but ashes and dust behind. People believed that Damian had died in the fire along with his Aunt. They just assumed that the fire was an accident. Damian left that town and never looked back. Damian got enough money to be able to train as an assassin for three years and also studied a bit of magic. He had realized that he wanted to focus on being clever with his battles rather than just fight like a soldier. Not to mention his mentor taught him to steal, how to act, how to create potions, and other things along those lines. He knows he has left to learn when it comes to fighting and magic. But it’s only a matter of time before he becomes stronger.
