Character Name: Monoch
Age: 41 (lived for 28 years)
Height: 5'6" ft / 1.7 m
Weight: 3.2 oz / 90 g
Gender: Female
Race: Ghost
Appearance: Monoch has the appearance of a middle-aged woman with short black hair, pale white skin, and baleful gray eyes. Those eyes are small and narrow, framed by thick eyebrows. Her large nose is crooked, having been broken in the past. She has a silvery, ragged line across her neck. Her outfit consists of a tattered gray nightgown with a lighter cloak thrown over her shoulders. When in the dark, she appears to be a normal human woman… Until she smiles. No human would smile like that. When exposed to bright lights, however, she appears as no more than a chill in the air, a shimmer of mist; diffuse.
Magical Talents: As a being of pure spirit, Monoch is a competent caster, and is able to bend the magical energies of Revaliir to her will, violently lashing out at her aggressors using a variety of dirty tricks. On top of her control over magic comes her abilities as a spirit: invisibility, intangibility, and flight, among other things. She always carries a bloodied knife that may be a hint at her past…
Using magic costs Monoch her very essence, and if she overtaxes herself, she will risk dissolution. Monoch, when weakened, appears as a mere puff of smoke in the air.
Personality: Monoch is a mixed bag of many contrasting traits. She can be friendly yet standoffish, expressive yet repressed, and passive despite her extremely aggressive nature. To most humans and other similar creatures, she leans towards a modest, apathetic friendliness. She puts up a strong front and mostly isolates herself from others. There are rare occasions in which she'll see much of her old self in another, and will become obsessed with protecting them from the same fate she suffered; she sees herself as a surrogate mother to the defeated.
Monoch is a being of very few words, and whether or not it is due to an inability to communicate has yet to be seen. She uses short and choppy sentences, and rarely ever uses more than one word at a time to express something. Her voice is cold and shallow, whispers from beyond the grave.
Monoch has dedicated her afterlife for the pursuit of revenge at any cost, and the subjugation of her killer. Ruthless and ambitious, Monoch exists as a sentient curse.
Despite her apathetic existence, Monoch still remains ever-chained to her desire to avenge herself. When roused, Monoch can be a cruel, callous and sadistic being. She is defined solely by her need to enact her revenge and sew chaos for her own satisfaction. She is obsessed with destroying her killer's life, aiming to destroy those important to them in order to see them wither.
History: Monoch began her life in poverty, in the city of Millingen. Her parents died when she was very young, and she lived cold and hungry throughout her childhood. She lived in the alleyways forgotten by the city, and fed on their scraps. She was stolen from, assaulted, taken advantage of, but she survived. When she came of a certain age, she became a lowly and humble servant, quietly avoiding prying eyes and serving loyally. Before long, she was attacked by a nobleman, and it did not take long for his fiancee, Rosemary Antioch, to discover the affair. He claimed that Monoch was the one who coerced him, and Monoch pleaded her innocence. The noblewoman scorned her, and that night, Monoch's throat was cut in her sleep.
Her body was lowered into the ground, but her spirit rose higher than ever. She was twenty-eight years old.
Monoch spent the first months of her death existing as something akin to a curse, a mindless phantom of pure hatred, killing anyone who wandered into the room she haunted - the very one she died in. Even if it were only for a second, she would pursue the trespasser to the ends of the world, killing them and everyone that had come in contact with them. It was through this method that her curse could propagate and spread like an epidemic. This, of course, garnered the attention of mediums and exorcists. It wouldn’t be long before Monoch was captured and sealed, putting her to the mercy of the priests of the land. Her spirit was sealed within a faraway holy shrine, and with no way to break her spiritual shackles, it is within this shrine she remained for many years.
With time, the seal weakened. With time, the shrine was forgotten by its caretakers. With time, the vengeful spirit calmed.
