All About Conroy Rannalon
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 79kg
Appearance: Conroy is a young man with a vaguely pale complexion and an overall average build, if not leaning towards more of an athletic build. He has thick, unkempt hair of a length just covering his ears, as well as bearing a very deep red colour. On top of this, he has noticeable, but not at all long, facial hair of a relatively scruffy texture with a similar colour to the hair on his head. His eyes usually appear quite a little bit tired, as well as being of a deep pine green colour. He has a generally refined face, with a slightly square jawline and a bit of a small nose. On top of this, he wears a pair of square rimmed glasses that he'll almost always be seen wearing.
Regarding his outfit, he'll almost always be wearing a set of mages robes with a deep, navy blue colour with a pattern resembling a stylised droplet of water emblazoned on the back in white thread. Beneath this, he wears a basic black long-sleeved shirt and pants. On top of this, he'll be wearing a pair of brown, durable boots on his feet. Can't go walking everywhere without a study pair of shoes.
Magical Talents: His talents in magic largely encompass things to do with creation, a traditional form of magic practised in the city state he once lived in known as Turaemancy. As expected, this form of magic carries connotations of creating any number of things, walls of stone pulled from the ground, various elementals to fight by his side, or simple more primal things such as explosions or spectral manifestations. This also encompasses powerful dispelling and banishing magics. With the ability to create, comes the ability to take away. However, his slow magical growth will mean it will take an awfully long time for him to reach his fullest potential. So, to put it simply, though he has immense potential, he is still in the process of learning. Knowledge being one of the main purposes of his journey.
Conroy is able to cast his magic through means of channelling his mana to different points in his body. Suffice to say, he can often manifest his spells quickly and without the need for chants or foci. However, this convenience and ease of use does come with the potential for something he calls 'mana exhaustion', which effectively drastically increases the cost of his spells if he consumes too much mana in a short period of time. On top of this, there are a few spells that require simple hand gestures that mightn't be possible in certain scenarios. So, suffice to say, he gains quickness and convenience in exchange for potentially higher mana costs and a need to be cautious when using more costly spells.
Personality: A generally confident, though easily tired out young man, Conroy has a penchant for travelling and meeting new people. Though he can seem quite scatterbrained and sometimes oblivious, he genuinely tries his hardest when he needs to. Whether it be for the purpose of impressing someone, or partaking in something that he considers himself passionate about.
Though he is by no means a coward, he knows when and when not to get away from a dangerous situation. Suffice to say, if there's a fight he can't win or a situation he'd rather not get caught up in, he'll have no problems with turning around and booking it.
Otherwise, he'll find himself going with the flow more often than not. Due to his current state involving a lot of travel across the lands, he'll usually just go wherever the wind takes him, taking opportunities to visit new lands and new places whenever possible.
Overall, Conroy presents himself as a usually neutral, but generally confident young man. He genuinely cares about those he considers friends, as well as having a bit of an urge to connect with people. After having lost so much, it's the least he can do.
History: Born to a noble family of an independent city state, Conroy had a wonderful upbringing, carrying himself and bearing his family's name with pride. Traditionally, the people of this city were avid practitioners of magic, largely to do with more ancient methods and arcane arts. As he was expected by his family, he wilfully took part in learning these magical arts.
What he lacked in immediate growth was made up for in potential. Though Conroy never really saw it himself, his family, and various other elders throughout his home did. He did not however end up meeting this potential, on account of an age long feud flaring to life and turning the life he'd known upside-down.
For as long as it could be remembered, an independent city state from a number of miles away shared many similarities to Conroy's home. Magical prowess and values pertaining to such were very prominent, as well as noble families holding the larger authority in both cities. One would think they'd be inclined to work together, to advance both societies and grow strong together. A simple difference in values made this an impossibility.
While Conroy's people focused more on mastering older, more traditional forms of magic, the opposing city state was well more oriented about carrying magic into the future, creating more modern spins on the spells of old. Each side horribly offended one another, no peace could be made.
Eventually, it reached a boiling point. A passive-aggressive feud had erupted into an all out war. Blood would be shed and lives would be lost. But, despite all this, Conroy stood along the people he lived with his whole life. Ready to fight until the very end to maintain his family's legacy.
That was until, he wasn't.
As the first wave of soldiers clashed against one another, it became clear to him that he wasn't going to come out of this alive. Let alone even win the battle. So, doing what he deemed the most sensible, he turned and ran. He ran and ran until his legs couldn't run anymore, until his lungs collapsed and his body gave way.
The thought of losing his life was horrific in his eyes, not to mention he couldn't stomach the thought of what would happen to those he cared for after all that was over. Imprisoned, enslaved, or much worse. What mattered to him was that he'd escaped. Within an instant, he'd cast his old life aside, abandoning his old identity and starting anew.
Nowadays, Conroy travels the world seeking to improve upon his magic. He knew it would take a very long time, but he also knew of his immense potential. He wanted to be ready to defend himself if the need ever arose, or to defend those he cared for in their times of need. Underneath that confident and otherwise carefree guise is a burning passion. A passion to make sure nothing bad happens to him, or anyone else he cares for ever again.
Miscellaneous:
-Conroy has rather bad eyesite. Not too horrendous, but bad enough to justify having his glasses on all the time.
-He has a generally bad time sleeping most nights, whether a bit of insomnia hits him and he can't get to sleep, or nightmares and night terrors violently force him awake. This is why he looks tired quite often.
