> Deep within the Virens Forest, Aldeon's modest village of seventy remains hidden from the world. Tucked away within the ocean of towering red oak and warded by powerful ancient magic, miniature houses are constructed and suspended high above the forest floor, just beneath the canopies. Paths made of wooden bridge connect an interlocking series of walkways, simple yet elegant in their design. For centuries this village has remained out of sight, protected both by natural and unnatural entities. The forest itself, a maze of endless trees and terrible beasts stand to protect the elves from foreigners, while the work of their ancestors has ensured wandering eyes never meet the village, should they look up.
> The village hierarchy is made up of a complex web of elders, each responsible for maintaining and transcribing the knowledge of their expertise to pass on to their successors upon their return to the soil. The matriarch of the clan holds responsibility for the safety and prosperity of the village, enacting and withdrawing laws as she sees fit, while punishing or sparing those for breaching them. Elected by the council of elders, her word is law so long as she lives. Matriarchs are typically well into their fifth century before eligibility is seen fit, though more often than not this number is greater than seven centuries, whereas elders are more commonly found to succeed their predecessors by the fifth century. Whereas the matriarch is selected by the elders, the people elect their elders by majority. It is to this culture that Jayana is familiar.
> Birthed to two highborn parents. Jayana is now entering what would be considered the final years of adolescence. Standing at five foot eleven inches tall, her long, sun drenched hair seems to sparkle against the vibrant emeralds set within her eyes. Yet at fifty seven years old, her mind, in the eyes of her elders is still very much growing. Much of her life has been spent with nose in book, studying the heritage of her people, her home, and the world as it is and was known. Secluded from man, the Elven society has maintained its anonymity for generations, aided by their ancestral wards, the populace has become jaded to the idea of venturing past the barrier of protection. In fact, it has been strictly outlawed to preserve the integrity and everlasting society that her people so cling to.
> A gifted priestess, the young elf has been trained by her elder circle to perform acts of divine magic: To mend wounds and vanquish pain from others. Though within her lies the ability to manipulate the elements of both water and air, to this day she remains ignorant of the trait, instead focusing her energy on the strength of her talent already discovered. Though never excelling in physical combat, Jayana developed an affinity for tracking, as well as cooking. Some say if the girl could ever master a bow she might well be the best hunter
and cook among her people.
> Despite the strict outlawing of venturing past the protective wards, Jayana has been known to frequently do so, in search of knowledge, to sate her curiosity for the unknown, as well as to follow, observe, and silently guide those lost in the forest to safety. Though until recent she had not been bold enough to interact with the strange humans or other species, she has a deep desire to understand them, to study them. Her journal contains a sordid concoction of varying syllables, languages and what she has gathered to be
words. From her research it would seem that there is at least one relatively prominent language spoken by those who venture into the Virens.
Driven by her limited understanding and thirst for knowledge, Jayana broke the cardinal laws of the land:
Never interact with outsiders, and do not leave the safety of the wards…
